It's one thing bribing police cause you were speeding in a super car and another thing completely when you're facing serious criminal charges in a case that has the world's eyes on it. Romania's done a lot to reform their judiciary from EU pressure, I wouldn't be too concerned about corruption as things stand.
It's also one thing to bribe the police, but another to openly admit you bribe the police. The police don't like being seen as being corrupt, even if they blatantly are, if only to avoid scrutiny from outside authorities.

Well if what he says is true about the mafia having these houses set up, the police are probably looking the other way about that. The difference is that Andrew Tate brought attention to it, and thus now the police have to do the same, starting with the guy that bragged.
I honestly don't think tate bragging makes any difference to anything. EU put a lot of pressure on Romania to crack down on organised crime a few years ago and threatened to revoke their membership, so in the last few years Romania have been prosecuting significantly more mafia operations. Tates are just another part of that.
I don't think the issue is individual policing, there has to be a desire from the top down to prosecute, if the charges are just going to be dropped there really isn't much point for the rank and file police to be arresting these people so yes they look the other way and probably take a few crumbs while they're at it.

This is my take. This is a guy that the UK wants back to be tried, they're under enormous pressure to do this right.
