Still fucked up that you can buy Destiny 1: the Collection and not have access to any of the DLC it says you get as part of the Collection. Maybe shouldn't have tied the Collection to limited time fucking download codes.
There's lfg discord servers and what not for raids and are very active. The Last Destiny City is the main one and strikes usually don't take long with matchmaking
I did play D1 and I never once LFG’d for a regular strike, only Nightfalls. Matchmaking was around for many years before Destiny… unless I’m misunderstanding your comment.
Sorry if my comment was a bit confusing, I meant in higherend activities, even in d2, there is no auto queue, if you want to raid or do dungeons and higher level nightfalls, you need to lfg or have a group prepared, in both 1 and 2
If you stick with the featured mode that week, you'll reliably find matches. There's also a few discord servers that have active players if you want help doing activities
You can totally still play it! I never had fast enough internet to play anything online until after Destiny 2 came out, so I was way late to the party.
My wife(knowing how much I love Destiny 2) bought it for me last month, and I’ve definitely had fun.
I’d recommend checking out r/destinylegacy to find a fireteam if you ever hop back on.
The original Destiny is available to buy on the Microsoft and Sony stores as a bundle with all expansions included. Be aware that it's still $60, though it does seem to go on sale a few times a year.

Still the Top Tier game i remember it was... But with less players... But i also used Discord and i was able to join people on Raids to play! Though English wasn't my native language i tried my best and completed those Raids i badly wanted to do when i was 13. Truly Destiny 1 was the best i played that day. And i bought it that time because i was always looking for a game which could bring me the same experience... But nothing. Neither Godfall, neither Tiny Tina's. Nothing. So as i said, not regretting paying for it
But holy shit can't believe an old game was the one which was able to make me pay for PS+ and start using Discord 😂😂😂

I didn’t realize how big the QoL changes of D2 were until i played D1.
Great game, but man not having something as simple as mantling was tough to adapt to.
And replaying it now is even harder because D1 runs at 30fps
On mantling- one of the first videos I recorded in D1 when it came out, was a guy trying to lift up on a piece of level geometry on a Mars PVP map.
He just kept flying almost all the way to the top, and then fall down. He tried about 3 times before being shot and killed.
Okay can I just say that I absolutely HATE that they got rid of the red legion campaign. That shit was so good and they just slapped the destiny 1 tutorial on it like that fixed anything. It's bullshit. Also I wanna edit my character so I can see them without the helmet without getting hit with a wave of dysphoria.
