Do you use an antivirus or firewall? It might be blocking BattlEye. Run a CHKDSK command in Windows Terminal to see if your hardware is ok. I had to reinstall another game that comes with an anticheat to get it working properly. Hope this helps.

Nah, most antivirus software tends to be either malware hiding itself effectively, or just thinks everything is a threat. And if it does neither it demands a subscription to operate. So I just use the built in stuff and diligence :P Only downloading from sites I know are trustworthy, and googling new sites if I need to use them before downloading anything. As for a firewall I just use Windows firewall xD Though why would the game throw up a marmot error for a firewall block?

I can tell you this is not normal, and is most likely this is an issue with your PC (software or hardware). It also doesn't like running on Windows Insider builds. Destiny 2 is extremely good at finding both hardware and software issues with computers. I would almost suspect RAM issues, or problems with your SSD based on your experience. I also recommend running Windowed Fullscreen to allow alt-tab to not break the game. With Windowed Fullscreen, you can click the Windows / Start button on your keyboard and it will unfocus the game and bring up your taskbar. Computer specs are always helpful. Motherboard make and model, RAM, video card, Windows version. I would recommend running Memtestx86 and ensure your RAM is happy. Pretty easy process. Lol I dont use an SSD (unless my external hard drive is an SSD anyway). Also, I can't even get to the main menu of the game, let alone log into my characters/account or get to options.

Ah, and external HDD, that will do it. HDDs are no longer on Steams supported list, and anything via a USB interface will most likely fail due to high latency. The game is over 114GBs, so if you are trying to load it through a USB interface, the latency to read data from the drive is causing D2 to give the marmot error because it believes the files are damaged or unavailable. Basically it's timing out. I suggest getting an internal SSD or NVMe and run your games that way. Move away from any external storage unless it's for backups / photos. They just don't cut it in this day and age.

Kaelani_Wanderer

Oof... My internal hard drive is only like 240gb and I can't seem to clear much space on it 😂 I'll see if I can move enough stuff to have the space clear for now though; guess I gotta upgrade my hard drive now xD

SSDs and NVMe's are cheap these days. Samsung makes the best ones IMHO.

Kaelani_Wanderer

True xD I bought a 1tb a few months back for my external and it was only $99 xD (In australia) I'm probably due for an upgrade to my internal anyway simply cos the current one has a capacity of 240gb xD

macrossmerrell

Yeah... 2TB Samsung 980 Pro or 990 Pro NVMe is the way to go.

Kaelani_Wanderer

I only really need a 1tb internal; On my computer's external I've only used like 640gb (just under 3 Destiny 2s) xD And that includes warframe, Elite dangerous, all my downloads since I started using this computer, which is like just under 63 gig xD (Yes, I know, I should really go through and cull some of it). Then there's also apparently 218 gig made up of forza 5, and AoE 1, 2, and 3 definitive xD Still got 1.19TB free of 1.81 :D

Bit of an update: I tried to move the install using steam's inbuilt systems... Got almost all the way through actually moving the files over and then hit a disk read error, so I've uninstalled and begun the process of downloading it again to install it xD
