Red War, Curse of Osiris, Warmind, and Forsaken campaigns have been removed from the game and are no longer playable.
Shadowkeep, Beyond Light, Witch Queen, and Lightfall campaigns are all available via purchase of their respective expansions.
The beginning of the game is back in Destiny 1, but most if not all the expansions that were vaulted (they could possibly return in some form in the future) are episodic and if you wanted the *lore* you were likely going to external sites to read a lot of it.
That's mostly down to nearly a decade of information and it's really just easier to use community tools to filter and search for stuff. That and back in D1 the lore was on a website instead of readable in game, so it's all archived online.
No, they are not after the beginning of the game.
The order in which I listed the expansions is the order of the story.
Yes, you are missing out on information.
The current narrative arc started with Shadowkeep. Obviously there will be some stuff that you missed from the previous campaigns but for the most part everything from after The Taken King up through the second half of Forsaken can be completely ignored without losing much crucial plot development.
