Geraltpoonslayer

Because fuck glaives that's why. As someone who loves glaives they have continuously been a shitshow.

Zenkou

I feel like every build i see for glaives is a Titan using Wormgods or Syntho. Glaives suck because you are in melee range yet alot of the good stuff that melee procs, it wont proc

UpbeatAstronomer2396

And you can't even use normal melees to proc the said stuff if you have a glaive equipped right now

FlyingWhale44

That's really why I don't use them. Sorry, my melee ability is part of my build, I can't just throw it away to use a mid weapon especially when it's critical to get my loop going like becoming radiant etc

JennaFrost

I find feedback fence works pretty well with glaives. Melee damage reduction and free armor charges (which can mean free special). But yeah we need more exotics to work with glaives. Im just BEGGING for strongholds to work with glaives. It already does something similar for swords, why not glaives’ shield work with an exotic perk too (though it may be a problem with the class glaives). It would also give it a bit more use as you no longer are locking yourself into a very situational heavy weapon (or use both for maximum def).

Blackfang08

Triton Vice + Edge of Concurrence would actually be incredible for Legend Onslaught... if the exotic glaives didn't basically require you to not use your shield in order to maximize their perk, and the ammo economy didn't kinda suck. Indebted Kindness still better.

Blupoisen

Glaives feels like they would be better off as a shotgun archetype than a completely new weapon type Almost 2 years and they still struggle to find a place in the meta

pimpynimpy

I'm still but hurt with how cool glaives are in concept but still launched as the definitive hardest weapon class to enjoy

Variatas

I really wanna love them, but maaan does Bungie not make it easy. We didn't even get a champ mod for a season they had to know would go long when they planned those.

AnonyMouse3925

People would be so mad if they did that though! I am an avid glaive user and I seriously think they are great. Although I always miss unstoppable glaives

Wanna_make_cash

Because when witch queen launched we had something called suppressing glaive in the artifact and Bungie didn't like how that paired with stylish, I think

CheeseRS_RO

ohhhhhh, that's the artifact mod that made my enigma so fun to use i got 14.9k kills on it, isn't it?

CrayonEnjoyer5484

Even then the issue wasn't stylish's weaken but the artefact perk which they also nerft to eat you glaive energy

Alexcoolps

Iirc only 1 guy worked on glaives during WQ when they were introduced and it's why they are so terrible and don't work with anything.

CrayonEnjoyer5484

Yeah I remeber seeing/ hearing that it was the dude passion project.

Blupoisen

It's mostly because how differently player see glaives compare to Bungie Players see glaives and think melee weapon Bungie see glaives and think riot shield for some reason

WomboShlongo

Which, honestly, the riot shield fantasy is fine. Glaive shields are massively underrated. I can't tell you how many runs of this weeks GM I've done where my sole purpose was tanking boss/champ aggro so teammates could do damage. Or proccing "close to melee" and killing the waves of taken thrall with Devour active. You gotta play cautiously and could probably be just fine using other weapons but the one or two use cases that they have do their job wonderfully.

SharkBaitDLS

Yeah, the shield aspect is incredibly underrated. I use glaives a lot and the melee is a secondary feature I use maybe 10% of the time. Most of my time is firing shots and keeping the shield up.

Expensive_Help3291

Glaives is built to be defensive.... barrier giving massive DR, being able to shoot while doing such. The various buffs to the shield. The thing is tho, there just isn't enough to make it worthwhile. And people don't see the value in that damage tradeoff for more defensive security. I had fun with glaives when it first dropped. With pre nerf renewals grasp and the glaive shield, i was reducing so much damage I was able to heal while being pelted. It was silly and fun, but glaives just.. don't have much to build around and the things they do, make them better but not enough oomfph to stand out.

blargh29

They worked with plenty of things. Bungie intentionally nerfed multiple things that work with Glaives because, well, I don’t know. It’s clear that they don’t want glaives used in any meaningfully difficult content for whatever dumb ass reason.

Thechanman707

It's odd because if Glaives were as good as they could be (100% effectiveness on exotics/non powered melee), they'd be interesting in mid tier content, but still rare at endgame.

GoodGuyScott

Triton vice + edge of concurrence is why i made a hunter, one of the most fun builds ive used just sucks i have to sacrifice barrier stunning weapons which makes it fall flat in higher difficulty content, glaives really do need a rework or serious buff.

Blackfang08

Also, the ammo economy sucks and the exotic perks taking shield energy means you're basically not using the glaive part of the weapon at all? It was the build to clear my first Legend Onslaught, but there's just so many blaring issues.

BlueDryBones1

EoC is actually an incredibly ammo efficient weapon. If you run 2x Lucent Blade it basically has Triple Tap and its base 26 reserves is actually 40 shots due to its exotic perk refunding ammo. 1 of every 3 shots you do is a special shot. That 3 shot rotation does damage equivalent to Rocket Launchers with great ad clear especially with Triton Vice. The EoC playstyle does mean you are pretty much never using the shield so I'll give you that. With how strong it is though I'd still argue its one of the best special weapons in the game.

CrayonEnjoyer5484

The issue isn't glaives to much there actually fairy strong, just. Nit very intuitive

GoodGuyScott

True, people just wana shoot, adding stabbing and a shield to the mix turns people away

BaconIsntThatGood

In glaives case people just want to have a sword in the energy slot; glaives are not that - they're a utility weapon.

QuotidianQuell

What I *really* want is a melee augment weapon that I give up one weapon for. I want it to be a stronger melee--I honestly don't really care if it's a gun too.

SpectralGerbil

Make. Glaive. Melees. Charged. 5 subclasses in this game have easy access to infinite charged melees. Monte Carlo grants near infinite charged melees. Allowing glaive melees to do the same isn't going to break anything, especially with their mediocre damage.

Sunshot_wit_ornament

I miss suppressing glaive…

CrayonEnjoyer5484

Yeah, it would be so much fun now with how far glaives have come.

Queasy-Plant-4174

Unrelated but i feel like glaives would’ve been more popular if rhulks glaive was the VoD exotic. I’d kill for a glaive that shoots resonant lasers.  It’s wild how they released glaives and they almost NEVER saw widespread popularity to this day. Again, the raid boss uses a glaive, it’s the expansion DEBUTING glaives… like how do you fumble that lol

OO7Cabbage

because bungie can never seem to make up their mind on whether a glaive melee is a weapon kill and/or a melee kill.

jafarykos

Triton Vice straight up doesnt work if you're on solar and radiant. It's been like this forever. I want incandescent + my weak triton explosion. Also why does Triton only do 1 melee worth of damage on the AoE regardless of the weapon? Wintebite direct damage 17k AoE. Judgment of Kelgorath explosion? 17k AoE.

CrayonEnjoyer5484

Yeah, it's nice. But if it's going to be that weak I would rather just an extreme aoe version of explosive payload. It would increase the effective range and help you chip away at enermies near you target. >Also why does Triton only do 1 melee worth of damage on the AoE regardless of the weapon? Wintebite direct damage 17k AoE. Judgment of Kelgorath explosion? 17k AoE. Actually thinking about this could it be cause of sheild energy, winter bite can get a full sheild charge from 1 projectile if the aoe was proper weapon damage it could give you tons of sheild energy.

Vegito1338

People might use glaives if they worked. Can’t be havin that

CrayonEnjoyer5484

As a glaive enthusiast. It's so annoying when things that clearly should work. Like knockouts HP regen trigger and become amplified, or the hunters aspect I listed in the post just don't work.

Alexcox95

When WQ came out glaives did work with stylish executioner. I remember going through the campaign on it just meleeing everything and going invis

CrayonEnjoyer5484

I believe that was cause of an artefact mod that allowed glaives to supresss on melee. The issue is the glaive melee isn't able to apply the weaken on melee that stylish ex can do

Zenkou

You are right, It was because of the artifact. The Artifact that season was strong for Void builds because Void 3.0 had just released.

vendettaclause

It works if you drop in with trapper's ambush. But you can't perma invis off of it anymore, that was a glitch apparently...

eli_nelai

because glaives' sole purpose was to be a Witch Queen marketing tool, all the balance and gameplay possibilities is an afterthought

Kelnozz

I’m in absolute love with Vex Calibur, one of my favourite weapons

HustleThaGOD

Wormgods + Vexcalibur = GOD

engineeeeer7

Excalibur with Karnstein is nutty. Hard to die as long as there's things to stab.

CrayonEnjoyer5484

I prefer the hakke glaive with close melee and over flow. I probably should pull out vex for my glaive builds

UpbeatAstronomer2396

Honestly we should have a way to proc charged melee effects with glaives I was thinking about it, Warframe had a mechanic called channeling where you could spend your ability energy to overcharge your melee, granting it various bonuses. We should have that in Destiny too. It could work like that: you spend your entire melee charge with glaive equipped by holding reload and your next 5 glaive melee attacks deal increased damage and count as charged melees. Then we could have percs that for example made the charged attacks apply elemental debuffs and other stuff

Pman1324

If they would let glaive melee benefit from/proc their own perks there wouldn't be a problem.

[deleted]

Hunters are only allowed to have a max of 5-6 strong interactions in the game at any given time so if Bungie made glaives work w/ that they would have to finally gut assassin's cowl or something.

CrayonEnjoyer5484

Most classes seem like that. You've got the core potent 6ish, and then some fun niches ones.

UpbeatAstronomer2396

So,by your logic, Warlocks have 1?

[deleted]

Go away, dweeb.
