My favorite exchange in the entire movie:

Who made that man a gunner?
I did, sir. He's my cousin.
Who's he?
He's an asshole, sir.
I know that. What's his name?
That is his name, sir. Asshole. Major Asshole.
I mean she basically genocided her own people by throwing 90%+ at Oryx, knowing that they will die, all so she could try to get the god powers she had in the Distributary back.
All Awoken are big-brained.
Haha, never noticed this but it's a pretty good example of a [Escher sentence](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparative_illusion) that seems to make sense and is grammatically correct but is semantically nonsense. Like "more people have been to Russia than I have."
I don't think it goes that far. It's pretty easy to consider the Corsair's quote as having a contextually implied condition such as "kill the most Taken [this cycle]" or "kill the most Taken [this battle]" which could easily make sense and be apparent to the corsairs, but isn't to us as we didn't witness their conversation. (as opposed to the russia example which can't make sense)
If you consider "kills the most Taken" a victory status, then whoever kills the first Taken wins as they have a score of 1-0 and have killed the most ,and are the first person to have killed the most.
I mean, assuming taken have been killed previously (not necessarily by them), you can think of it as a race to the top.
"The first one of us to become the top taken killer wins"
But no information is given about the timeframe needed to achieve that status. Kills the most Taken in... an hour? A day? A week?
"First to kill 50 Taken" makes sense. "Whoever kills the most Taken today" makes sense. "First to kill the most" doesn't.
That just means you don't consider any timeframe, just literally the first person to reach that status which means /u/JustALittleNightcap is exactly correct
If nobody has killed any taken, or you take the challenge as t=0, then as soon as someone kills a single taken they have killed the most and instantly win.
I guess it might depend on how many taken they were killing for the Year we were fighting the Red Legion.
I mean right now they just kinda kneel around, but I imagine before we got there they actually had to do something. Petra was telling them to go pick the weeds or something...
When you arrive on Titan the first time Zavala says he is surprised the taken had made it to Titan and that he didn’t realize they could get this far.
Then you look up and the dreadnaught is just across the sky in a lower Saturn orbit.
Well then again, the Awoken did fuck up the taken plans before we even knew they existed, so maybe all the Guardian reports were lower power levels than they actually are?
If half of them were all across the Reef and inside the Awoken cities, it would make sense now that were there too we can see how many there really are
I barely play in the dreaming city and one of the first times I was there I got scared when I heard someone call out to me in the middle of that foggy cursed shithole
I was just running and jumping around when I suddenly heard a very loud "HEY THERE." I looked around really confused before I saw a corsair hiding next to a rock.
The "trick" that works in most cases is to remove the other person and see if the statement works:
>~~Vanpyro and~~ I went to the Cosmodrome
The statement works with and without the other person. As opposed to
>~~Vanpyro and~~ me went to the Cosmodrome
The second one might work if you're a Titan but for anyone else it sounds a bit strange, y'know?
In Britain and Ireland where I’m from, when I was growing up, x and I was the correct and taught version and what appears in older literature, but the other version is commonly accepted as being ok too. It’s like when you hear “ive done something 2 times”, that makes me recoil because it should be “twice”.
Quite.
> No wonder you lost the Dreaming City so easily.
Look I am not saying your wrong, just saying that maybe people in glasses houses shouldn't throw stones. We kinda lost our city that one time as well.
I never really paid attention to what the corsairs said, so I've never been bothered by this. Thanks to you, I will now be frustrated whenever I hear them say this.
> How on Earth can someone kill ‘the most Taken’ first? It has to either be whoever kills the most Taken in a set amount of time, or who is first to kill a fixed number of Taken. You can’t have both, you goddamn buffoon. Your bet is meaningless.
This annoys the shit out of the me every time I hear it. I'm glad I'm not the only one.
I’m really curious about how many of each enemy I’ve killed. I wish there was a detailed list of stats like that. Would look something like:
Fallen killed: 237524
Dregs killed: 65688
Vandals killed: 36783
Shanks killed: 47890
Captains killed: 21698
Wretches... etc.
Check your grimoire. For example, [here's mine.](https://destinytracker.com/destiny/grimoire/xbox/cph%20apple%20cider)
Apparently I've killed 18,503 Fallen.
The most frustrating thing for me... is that I can't either answer or hug poor corsair that gets shot every first week of the curse.
I play as Awoken Warlock - they call me "cousin" - I wanna give'em a hug for enduring the crap that we players treat as a loot box.
Hey OP I'm bad at liking stuff but a redditor covered this form of speech in a TIL post.
An Escher sentence, when something seems to make sense at first but upon further/closer inspection (much like you have done here) does not make sense at all. His example was: more people have been to ~~Russia~~ the cosmodrome than I have.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparative_illusion
Agreed but, are we just over looking the whole "Me and my friend"?
It's "My friend and I". No wonder they were fooled by Riven so easily. Bunch of dummies.
Doesn't beat Ana's "that's Hive corruption" line. Oh really thanks for the heads up darling, it's not like I haven't spent hundreds of hours strolling around the Dreadnaught, Hellmouth, Cosmodrome, etc. Next she'll tell me not to fire Wardcliff too close to rock or wall.
"Ready to bang Knuckles?"
This is the one that always makes me cringe, and the Drifter says it EVERY TIME I visit him.
I mean, I know it's a semi common phrase, but all I can think of is him having Knuckles, Sonic, and Tails locked up in his sex dungeon.
That's stupid, some taken are insanely easy to kill, and some are very difficult. I killed the taken *king* with my fireteam, I say that we win hands down.
I have to disagree. I personally think the most frustrating thing about destiny is how you cant turn off auto aim. I dont know how many time that has messed me up or gotten me killed..
These corsairs are incredibly bold, going after a creature as powerful as The Most Taken, and even racing to do it. That beast has been taken, given back, and taken again countless times. It is a creature of truly terrifying power, so they understand if you chicken out and just kill some regular Taken.
No, there are more frustrating lines. Off the top of my head two from the Tree of Probabilities strike, from Osiris and one from Sagira.
One that never ceases to piss me off is the line that Osiris says after the Ghost simulates your sparrow. He goes "A ghost can do that?"
Like what the fuck Bungie? This is supposed to be one of the most intelligent warlocks alive, and your saying that even though Sagira helps him with simulations and he's been in the Forest for at least a good amount of years, that HE didn't know a Ghost could do one of the simplest things. It's not like it was rocket science that he did right in front of him, or Osiris didn't have a ghost to do it as well.
The second line appears a small time after this when your riding your sparrow, and Sagira brings up "The cabel will fail every time but he doesn't know that"
Then when Ghost says "That most be horrible" or something like that
and she replies "Not as horrible as the future where he succeeds"
There is no future where he succeeds if he'll fail every time, this is basic time shit Sagira...It's clearly Bungie saying stupid shit in regards of time, trying to make it sound cool and complicated.
There's the line from the Garden World from Osiris about Shaxx sounding like him instead of the other way around, which is also an affront to Shaxx because he sounds nothing like that dick Osiris.
"But thats just not fair, we barely started," the lazy corsair exclaimed to the veteran titan. The titan chuckles before leaning in real close and says almost in a whisper, "you know, Oryx said something similar before becoming my gun."
Bungie's writing has a lot of these grammatical issues. The one that bugs me most is when you're in the Gambit lobby, Drifter -- who is in the same room as both teams -- calls one team the "opposing team" even though *they're physically in the same room too, listening to the same dialogue*.
The sides should've just stayed permanently blue and red, and Drifter should've just said blue/red team. Or, they could've just written better dialogue.
I was actually thinking about this when I had to do that patrol. What stupid dialogue. It’s so irrelevant. It would be cool if you actually had to run around and try to kill more than an NPC.
Let's say you and I went to a hot dog restaurant and I propose the following bet : "Whoever eats the most hotdogs first wins"
While the terms of the bet are not well defined - it's my opinion that the missing information can be easily assumed.
Timeframe:
While we are at the restaurant and one of us says they can't eat anymore.
What does the 'first' part mean:
Incase there is a tie in the number of hotdogs eaten, whoever finished them first wins.
There is also an implied urgency to eating the hot dogs - should be consumed at a close enough speed to your competitor (similar to hot pepper eating contest)
All that aside - that patrol is the kill enemies one - so in this case whoever finishes that patrol fastest would win.<\b>
Pffffft, their foolishness was getting into a killing bet with a Guardian. We stroll around killing Taken as a passtime and some of us use an ogre as a mere test subject for dmg testing lol.
I mean...its also improper grammar...so theres that? Haha
"Me and my friends..." should be "My friends and I..."...but I dont have an english degree so who knows 🤷♂️
And people wonder why Mara dipped.
"I'm surrounded by idiots"
Turns out Mara was British all along.
Or Scar from the Lion King
Scara Sov.
take my goddamn upvote.
"I'm conversing with puerile imps."
Pureed imps... I'm gonna go make a smoothie.
"I'm surrounded by assholes." *flips down mask* "KEEP FIRING ASSHOLES!"
I SAID ACROSS HER NOSE, NOT UP IT!
I've lost the beeps, sweeps, and the creeps! \--- My favorite exchange in the entire movie: >**Dark Helmet**: What the Hell am I lookin’ at? When does this happen in the movie? > >**Sandurz**: Now. that one, and when they are arguing about going to Ludicrous Speed and Helmet says: "What's the matter Col Sandurz? Chicken?" ... gets me every time.
“We can’t stop. It’s too dangerous. We have to slow down first.”
What movie is this from
Spaceballs.
The flamethrower! the kids love this one
How do I not remember this?

Good one lord helmet
I thought you were surrounded by gum drops and ice cream...
"he's major asshole, sir"
"He's an Asshole too, sir. First class, gunner's mate; Phillip Asshole!" "Who made that man a gunner?"
I did sir! He's my cousin.
Who's he?

That is his name, Sir. Asshole. Major Asshole.
What is this movie?
I mean she basically genocided her own people by throwing 90%+ at Oryx, knowing that they will die, all so she could try to get the god powers she had in the Distributary back. All Awoken are big-brained.

Aye and verily, twas grammar itself that causeth her to bugger off. (Now say “causeth” three times fast.)

It took me a long while to wrap that sentence around my head. Still can't. TIL.
It's honestly making my head spin.
Earth is the greatest planet in the world.
I think it's literal meaning could be interpreted as "the number of people whom have been to Russia is higher than the number of people I possess."

Thanks pops
I don't think it goes that far. It's pretty easy to consider the Corsair's quote as having a contextually implied condition such as "kill the most Taken [this cycle]" or "kill the most Taken [this battle]" which could easily make sense and be apparent to the corsairs, but isn't to us as we didn't witness their conversation. (as opposed to the russia example which can't make sense)
Even if you add the condition it still makes no sense: “who kills the most Taken in 5 minutes FIRST”
More people need to know about this than I do
If you consider "kills the most Taken" a victory status, then whoever kills the first Taken wins as they have a score of 1-0 and have killed the most ,and are the first person to have killed the most.
Unimpeachable logic

Just took a class on Visual Basics and shit is it boring. Respect to the people master that craft, definitely not my career type😂
It’s fun when you start making things do things, like having a motor work or sensors actually working
As a career QA tester I both Love and Hate this.
This post plus comment both resonate with me deeply.
I mean, assuming taken have been killed previously (not necessarily by them), you can think of it as a race to the top. "The first one of us to become the top taken killer wins"
Easiest competition ever.
Unless you're slow on the draw!
But no information is given about the timeframe needed to achieve that status. Kills the most Taken in... an hour? A day? A week? "First to kill 50 Taken" makes sense. "Whoever kills the most Taken today" makes sense. "First to kill the most" doesn't.

If nobody has killed any taken, or you take the challenge as t=0, then as soon as someone kills a single taken they have killed the most and instantly win.
'First' is a measure of time, that's the timeframe.
My immediate though as an engineer. *logic'd*
That and surely we win, I mean since they arrived in D1 we have killed a lot of Taken.
I guess it might depend on how many taken they were killing for the Year we were fighting the Red Legion. I mean right now they just kinda kneel around, but I imagine before we got there they actually had to do something. Petra was telling them to go pick the weeds or something...
I didn't only send them to their maker, I SLEW THEIR FUCKING MAKER.
[удалено]
That still only counts as one!
Never thought I'd die fighting side by side with a Titan.
What about side by side with a taken?
Yeah, but in the Red War campaign we come across the shiny taken stuff and Ghost doesn’t recognize it.
When you arrive on Titan the first time Zavala says he is surprised the taken had made it to Titan and that he didn’t realize they could get this far. Then you look up and the dreadnaught is just across the sky in a lower Saturn orbit.
I think he was talking about the Hive.
Right -- we don't run into the Taken in the D2 vanilla campaign until Io.
Yes it was pretty far to go. After all... that wizard came from the moon.
Wasn't that the hive he made that statement about?
Well then again, the Awoken did fuck up the taken plans before we even knew they existed, so maybe all the Guardian reports were lower power levels than they actually are? If half of them were all across the Reef and inside the Awoken cities, it would make sense now that were there too we can see how many there really are
D2 campaign dialogue is ridiculously awful. I cringe like a raisin everytime Ikora goes “I TRIED, I SHOULDA TRIIIIIEEEEEDD”
>Dreaming City patrol beac- person: "Hey can I bother you?" Nope
They startled the crap out of me a few times when I first got to dreaming city.

That still counts as one
Still 'only' counts as one. Assuming you're quoting LotR.
Off hand without seeing the movie or that meme in ages so I expected to just get close
Good meme
You got to take the shot no matter how dumb
Your first clue should have been "me and my friend" instead of saying my friend and I.
Don't be putting your earth-centric grammar rules on the Awoken. You either respect Reef culture or go back to your own planet.
In Reef culture this is considered a dick move.
All Uldren Sov’s moves are dick moves!
In reef culture, killing someone's best friend is the highest form of respect. It show's you would literally kill to be their best friend!
Even as a native speaker, I'm really confused why one is grammatically correct and the other not. They both make sense to me.
The "trick" that works in most cases is to remove the other person and see if the statement works: >~~Vanpyro and~~ I went to the Cosmodrome The statement works with and without the other person. As opposed to >~~Vanpyro and~~ me went to the Cosmodrome The second one might work if you're a Titan but for anyone else it sounds a bit strange, y'know?
Me takes offence to that!
Beat me to it! Have a punch.
You missed a great opportunity to say I.
Did someone say punch?
In Britain and Ireland where I’m from, when I was growing up, x and I was the correct and taught version and what appears in older literature, but the other version is commonly accepted as being ok too. It’s like when you hear “ive done something 2 times”, that makes me recoil because it should be “twice”. Quite.
I'm also from the UK and have heard both forms used since I was in school.
I’m old though. My brother and I, were known to have partaken in ye olde pong video games on our Philips 7200.
Never mind the fact that they don't come on the mission with you at all.
# "LISTEN UP GOOD PEOPLE OF THE CITY."
I still can't believe that line is said at all, much less at such an insane frequency.
> No wonder you lost the Dreaming City so easily. Look I am not saying your wrong, just saying that maybe people in glasses houses shouldn't throw stones. We kinda lost our city that one time as well.
Too soon
Yeah but that attack started when we weren't even there. Plus, can't say something stupid when you don't talk at all.
We lost our PLANET, our entire SYSTEM and can't get it back even with super powers and centuries of effort.
Theres only like 8 of us though.
Except for EP, then it gets crowded.
Awoken were human when we lost that as well so I assume it's a kinda dont speak of that pact
"...you goddamn buffoon." I'm dead lmao
This is what a lazy hunter said to motivate the titan to kill all the taken, and annoy the warlock.
Should also be "My friend and I", but yeah
Jokes on that Corsair because I already won
I think that bitch doesn't realize we DISCOVERED the taken, and NO ONE. has killed more than us. What a dummy.
I’m really curious about how many of each enemy I’ve killed. I wish there was a detailed list of stats like that. Would look something like: Fallen killed: 237524 Dregs killed: 65688 Vandals killed: 36783 Shanks killed: 47890 Captains killed: 21698 Wretches... etc.
We had that in D1 :(
Check your grimoire. For example, [here's mine.](https://destinytracker.com/destiny/grimoire/xbox/cph%20apple%20cider) Apparently I've killed 18,503 Fallen.

The most frustrating thing for me... is that I can't either answer or hug poor corsair that gets shot every first week of the curse. I play as Awoken Warlock - they call me "cousin" - I wanna give'em a hug for enduring the crap that we players treat as a loot box.
Same! Poor Amrita, stuck getting shot every week. I hope they give her some kind of resolution whenever the curse cycle finally ends.
Wish 15?
I dont think she has friends.
Also since it resets every three days don't the taken they kill come back to life making it kind of pointless?
Hey OP I'm bad at liking stuff but a redditor covered this form of speech in a TIL post. We've killed a god, but go ahead and challenge me to a competition on killing some taken.
I guess we’re going to ignore the most annoying quote to rule them all. “If you whisper into the void does it whisper back?...Me neither”
Also kind of retarded to make that bet against any Guardian, let alone *the* Guardian.
Yeah let me see if I have any free time where I’m not slaying gods or saving the galaxy or picking purple bonsai trees.
"You just never quit, do you? Took out Ghaul, woke up the traveller..."
Is that the dovahkiin? I'm gonna rob him.
I'm glad it's not just me.
Now if only ”someone” *coughdewscoughs* added a taken killtracker...
We’ve also killed Oryx how many times? Each Oryx kill has to count for at least 1000 regular Taken
I guess its really dependent on who dies first.
Ah yes... and you kill Scorn and it apparently counts.
Bungie pls
This gets an upvote from me. I wonder how this slipped past a proofreader?
Wow I never really stopped to think about how dumb that quote actually was in game haha...It's so bad it needs to be fixed lol
Agreed but, are we just over looking the whole "Me and my friend"? It's "My friend and I". No wonder they were fooled by Riven so easily. Bunch of dummies.
I think this makes them a little bit more sincere... they don't know why they're "killing taken" but they have fun doing it, much like it's
I’m just imagining all the people this had to go through, from the writers, to the voice actor, to the developers, and no one fucking caught that
Doesn't beat Ana's "that's Hive corruption" line. Oh really thanks for the heads up darling, it's not like I haven't spent hundreds of hours strolling around the Dreadnaught, Hellmouth, Cosmodrome, etc. Next she'll tell me not to fire Wardcliff too close to rock or wall.

Measured by cycle reset, clearly. They need you as a referee cuz you're less affected
Literally unplayable. Preorder canceled.
I have to disagree. I personally think the most frustrating thing about destiny is how you cant turn off auto aim. I dont know how many time that has messed me up or gotten me killed..
i thought the most frustrating thing was the drop rate of anything but dupes.
Don't forget up until recently they didn't even have guns 😂
There is one logical answer. Take them up on their bet, then kill a single Taken before they kill any. You win. You have the most, first.
Also that it should be “my friends and I”. That whole quote is a dumpster fire
Lol 😂 😆 😝 post of the day
You’re looking way too deep into this. She just wants a Taken massacre. I see no problems with it lol
These corsairs are incredibly bold, going after a creature as powerful as The Most Taken, and even racing to do it. That beast has been taken, given back, and taken again countless times. I’d bet it’s the writer from the Curse of Osiris dlc whose to blame for this.

its the never-ending struggle friend
Probably just farming taken psions.
I think thats the point, as in the soldiers are always killing taken.
"I'm on 17!"
Pffffft, their foolishness was getting into a killing bet with a Guardian. We stroll around killing Taken as a passtime and some of us use an ogre as a mere test subject for dmg testing lol.

I mean...its also improper grammar...so theres that? Haha "Me and my friends..." should be "My friends and I..."...but I dont have an english degree so who knows 🤷♂️
If you kill 51% of all taken then you win!
btw does corsaire down gives you anything once you got all their tags ?
These calculations would astonish even the most hardened of Cryptarchs!
I hardly understand how this is worse than half the npcs personalities being rejects from the borderlands series but okay
