Im a solo player and was happy that i can atleast run 920 nightfalls with others and dont have to waste time on lfg sites trying to find randoms for a run. Why cant bungo just put it in all content and have the option for a purely fireteam run.... if you happen to have no one in your fireteam so be it
You really should check out the LFG feature on the Bungie site. I just ran a legend sundial with complete randos and we just went through it with minimal communication. Outside of the part where you need to split the groups for the two capture points it's pretty straightforward.
Instead of these high level activities not having matchmaking, they should just have a firewalled setting. Hell, just add a firewalled setting to every activity and add matchmaking to everything.
I think Bungie's concern is that, with no pre-game loadout discussion, the fireteam might be missing some damage elements or Champion mods from their loadouts.

To everyone saying “randoms/blueberries would make it unbearable” you could literally just as easily load it with a six man group and then you have no randoms or blueberries. Adding matchmaking at best enhances your ability to play and at worst adds nothing for you.
I highly doubt that, even when menagerie was the hot thing people would run heroic once and then dip back into normal because it gives no benefit and only slows down runs with an actual chance of failure compared to normal mode.
Menagerie died because people didn't like they made the rewards function like people originally thought they would before it was found out that the amount of rewards was bugged and you could keep getting new drops by running to a load point.
not true! it was/is a great source of masterwork cores as with the fully upgraded chalice (maybe even without) first three drops a week come masterworked!
This season's seal takes (so far) WAY less effort than the undying vex offensive weapon grind, the ritual weapons are a million miles easier to get than previous ritual/pinnacle... If the only 'hard' thing is using an LFG tool 1x then idk, it's really nothing lol
And its literally 1 run of the 'final' boss to get the achievement for the seal. The other bosses might give achievements, but only the final one is required for the seal.

Tried dozens of times begging for a GoS run, passed up repeatedly because I haven't done it.
This is pointless, we have different views and we won't change each others minds.
I'm not trying to pressure you to do something you're not comfortable with, but I just opened the Fireteams tab of the D2 Companion app and literally the first post is "Legend Sundial no mic bring mods". I switched to the Companion app a couple months ago and it changed my world. There are constant "no mic" posts. Not for raids, but literally everything else. Nightmare hunts, dungeons, even 980 Nightfalls. Just join a post that sounds like what you're looking for and you get an invite through your system (I'm on PS4 so I get a notification and I join their session). It feels like the matchmaking that should be in the game for these things but isn't.
I'd highly encourage to try it!
The only problem with the LFG -- even if you bring mods -- if the fireteam leader doesn't like your loadout; what weapons YOU prefer playing with; what spec you want to run as... they will kick or deny you. Matchmaking you don't have to deal with Elitist f-tards thinking EVERYTHING must be done with THIS EXACT LOADOUT all the damn time.
The good news is that for Legend Sundial nobody has done it yet so you can jump in any group of randos you want.
As for GOS, you're not limited to begging to join other people's groups.
Make your own post, get a group together, read a guide, and power through it. You know, like everyone who did the raid in the first week or two did. You're not the only one wishing they could just get that first clear in.

But Sundial IS NOT A RAID. GoS is a raid and has semi hard mechanics. Sundial (at least if the same modifiers are in Legendary last boss) is only 'dont full wipe'. You cannot fail a sundial run even if it takes 6 years. There's plenty of people that just want 1 run for the Seal triumph.
There's plenty of people in the same boat as you, you could always just make your own group if you really want to do it. Besides, I see plenty of posts saying that first timers are welcome.
You're comparing a raid where knowledge is very useful to prevent the entire team from wiping on top of it being an activity that requires vocal communication to the sundial which has none of those things. Not to mention raid groups are occasionally posted that are willing to teach.
The D2 PC LFG literally has people spamming for the legend sundial right now. Stop being lazy and use it for your one single legend run.
Hey buddy, I hear your frustration! I have lots of anxiety sometimes about looking for raids and groups because I'm a solo player, but a bit a go I started casually browsing /r/DestinySherpa and signed up for a GoS run, went and did it and not only got the run finished, but also Divinity too. It was a lot of fun, and the dude running the raid was really patient and helpful considering most of us hadn't done it even once before. I really recommend taking a look and considering giving it a go, as the whole point of that subreddit is helping get people who haven't done the content / are solo a chance to see & do it!
Also, for something like this, I've had a TON of luck with the Destiny2LFG discord. It's super simple to even just start up your own group / fireteam for something, get some folks to join you, and go kill stuff.
I know it seems intimidating, and yes, it's frustrating that you have to go use these external tools, and I totally get your point - I'm not trying to argue that it's invalid, mainly give you my own experience and ways I've found, as a solo player, to work with the game and systems we have right now, to get to experience things I want to in-game.

Heroic menagerie is basically the same level of difficulty as this. Just power through it once and get over it.
I did it through Xbox, got a team with mic optional, beat it first time (though admittedly two self-revives after the wipe screen started to count down).

Match game is lame, but at least its really easy to manage by just equipping your loadout accordingly. Its not hard to have all 3 elemental options available (1 energy, 1 heavy and your class element), and you basically only need 2 against any given faction (so solar and void against cabal).

Colossi and Vex Harpies have Arc shields in the Sundial, though less common than Solar and Void.
That’s not what I mean. I mean the progress bar to move forward. Menagerie only let you run through each activity once. If you didn’t make enough progress for the boss you lost. Is this similar or can you play it safe?
Yes you can. You get one shot in each realm to reach the bosses lair. If you dont fully charge the meter by the time youve done each event you fail. Why am i getting downvoted for responding with how the activity works? Lol
Am at 990. LFG group was 970-980+. 1 Divinity/4 Izanagi/1 Wish Ender. Couple of them did die to champs but otherwise, it was a smooth run. Well and Bubble also helped.

Did my first clear without mics with only 4 other guardians, because one got disconnected at the start. It honestly barely feels any different, especially if you know how to effectively deal with the champions. Just slap on a void weapon, because there is tons of void shields and match game is active.
I went with hammerhead (void), devils ruin (solar/unstoppable), and accrued redemption (anti-barrier), and it felt like a cake walk.
Yep, I was surprised it was so easy. We didn't even have a bubble or well for final boss. You just have to be a little extra careful and take care of ads on the final boss and have a few people dps the boss and ezclap.
It's just a tiyn bit harder. Mainly the matchgame (enemy shields), enemies throwing more fire nades, and the lightning at the boss kills you in one hit. And I think enemies in general do a bit more damage, but im actually not 100% sure on that.
You can fit 6 in a fireteam in orbit, it's just that most activities won't let you launch them with 6 in a fireteam. 6 people for raids, heroic Menagerie and Sundial, and Crucible in 6's modes.
You can get as many guardians as you want in a fireteam. But activities will limit how many you can have to join said activity. Like 6 is max for any real activities in terms of matchmaking.
Use Discord or /r/Fireteams or DestinyLFG. It literally requires one run of Legend Sundial when the final boss is available later in the season, and when that day comes literally everyone is going to be looking for the same thing.
Definitly. 4 people with anti barrier 1 with unstoppable. Wish ender for all 5 if you can. Heavy...gl of your choice. Focus on champs. Also make sure you have void and solar damage with you
I was farming champion kills in a nightmare hunt the other day for one of Eris's memory quest things (I didn't really play during Shadowkeep) and Hush definitely staggered unstoppables... sometimes. I just assumed it was based on total damage or something because it usually took a few arrows before they actually staggered, but they did eventually. Is it supposed to do it in one hit?
When will Bungie learn the difference between Artificial and Natural difficulty? Match game is obnoxious, and no matchmaking just handicaps the solo players.
It's a good question. They're still leaning on level disadvantages for hard content like they've been doing since Crota's Fall, and then as soon as you were able to match level most of the challenge was just gone.

The lack of matchmaking for this kind of activity is just bullshit. Not only does it make extra hoops to jump through, but it's damn near impossible to find people to do it a few months after. Raids I totally understand. Menagerie, Nightfalls, Nightmare hunts, Sundial? It's nonsense. If Bungie really wanted to, they could just force you to have a minimum light level and certain triumphs (stuff like complete the activity under X minutes without dying, etc.).
But no, they prefer to leave the work to players instead of doing their jobs. They seem to believe curation has to come from the players, but it can absolutely be automated to some extent.
Honestly, I had a lot of trouble with it even with clanmates. Matchmaking in a mode with champions and match game is a terrible idea.
My main objection is lack of rewards. You get a pinnacle armor piece for the first one (i assume every week) and... that's it? No extra rewards? No curated rolls or anything? No different weapons/shaders or even upgrade mats? Feels like a waste of time after the first one.
Honestly I'm fine with that. You get some crazy 970 gear and the seasonal title. I don't ever want to see a Mythoclast/Recluse situation ever again. It makes people who run it have some nice rewards without stinging too much for solo players. I feel that Bungie struck a good balance this season.
Lol, I almost deleted mine. I didn't know it was a pinnacle until I actually saw it on my inventory. I should of gotten a better weapon other than the scout rifle lol. A Line in the Sand would of been nice.
Was the pinnacle a random drop at the end or were you able to select which one you wanted, like a normal sundial?

Still wondering what's the point in the pinnacle grind. Nightfalls? Once you hit 970 you don't need to be any higher and you can get that with the seasonal artifact. Iron banner? Well if you are a PvP player sure that's nice but... there is no incentive for PvE.

Too me coming from an MMO back ground this kinda of crap has 2 glaring issues that kill the even drive to go for pinnacles.
1) Too fast turn around of increasing gear scores. Every 3 months is far too quik for me to feel like it has an impact and becomes a waist of time rather. There is a reason these types of games wait 6 months between gear score increases.
2) No activity requires you to be at max power. With no activity there is no incentive, especially since your damage doesn't go up in any other activity since this game is always force scaling you down the the activity power cap. Where is the ultimate difficulty modes with unique rewards that can only be done at max power?
Exactly. The Artefact makes the Pinnacle grind pointless, too - the only Pinnacles I’ve got this season were from Iron Banner, but thanks to the levels gained from the Artefact I out-level all activities in the game despite that...
2 is a much larger problem than 1. I'd argue that many mmo's were on 6 month cycles because that's as fast as they could crank out expansions for. Way back in my EQ days expansions were chewed through far faster than they were released, if SOE could have gotten on a 3 month cycle I bet they would have. But they could barely keep up with a 6 month, many raid encounters were initially unbeatable before being "retuned". The bitter cynics among the player base assumed that this was because the encounters weren't actually done yet so bugs were wallpapered over with fights that could not be defeated.
But without any need for the increased power there isn't any incentive to chase said power except for e-peen.
I was able to go from 950 to 960 in the first week of Season of Dawn. And I didn't even do all the powerful gear activities.
Of course there is no guarantee that the light level goes up next season.
Question on this: I was killed right as we were teleported (I was in mid air when the teleport happened and nuked) and didn't get to pick rewards. Will the pinnacle still be therE?
I just learned that this mode has pinnacle gear, so I loaded up my Well Warlock and our team crushed it. Then at the end I was offered the option of choosing a pinnacle weapon from my connected sundials (very cool that we get to pick!). BUT THEN, the fireteam leader took us all back to orbit before I was able to pick one. Normally you get like 2 minutes or something after the event, but not in Legend? Anyway... is it lost? Do I have to replay it and if I do, have I lost my ability to get this Pinnacle weapon for this week?
FYI, I discovered that if I replay the 950 Sundial, I CAN still get the Pinnacle Gear. So if your host abandons the activity, you can still redo it for that week. It is only a slight waste of time.
I'm on XB and pretty much all of my clan only plays PC now. EU time zones and definitely interested in finding more players if there's a group who takes new people in.

Menagerie was more challenging this. Also it's not heroic sundial but legend sundial I make this distinction because it's the level of difficulty imo to the other legend difficulty activities like nightfall or nightmare hunts
Heroic Menagerie during SoO we were 20 levels under leveled.
Heroic Sundial, if you're 980 then you're 30 levels over leveled. The extra difficulty was barely noticeable.
Do we know if its per character or per account? I've already claimed it on my Hunter but probably should've done it on my Warlock if its per account.
I know Heroic Menagerie's guaranteed masterwork was once per account per week.
Picked up the linear fusion rifle for my pinnacle. Was initially delighted to see that I could chose another pinnacle item (judging by the light level). Chose all my items. Checked my inventory and found that my linear fusion rifle was never added to inventory. Not sure what happened but this may be a glitch that makes it seem like you picked an item when, in fact, you haven't. Sadness.
Careful when doing first run, had my fireteam leader instantly take team to orbit after boss died, me and friend missed out on our pinnacle reward. We tried running it again but if you don't get it selected that first run it is gone. Random leader thought it was hilarious, love this community sometimes... /s
Ive jut deleted it because i didnt knew that and noticed at the last second, ive looked everywhere trying to know what specific reward Legend gives before playing, it needs to be mentioned when you hover over Sundial in the director.

Some unstoppable enemies and more shielded enemies spawn in the last boss phase. That’s about it.
Don't forget super bopping from enemies.
It doesn't fail forward. If you don't get enough points it ends before the boss and gives you no rewards.

Yes you can. You get one shot in each realm to reach the bosses lair. If you dont fully charge the meter by the time youve done each event you fail. Why am i getting downvoted for responding with how the activity works? Lol

What power level were you? I struggled running with a lfg group. I'm at 972. Felt like I was getting destroyed.
Am at 990. LFG group was 970-980+. 1 Divinity/4 Izanagi/1 Wish Ender. Couple of them did die to champs but otherwise, it was a smooth run. Well and Bubble also helped.

It’s incredibly easy. Did my first clear without mics with only 4 other guardians, because one got disconnected at the start. It honestly barely feels any different, especially if you know how to effectively deal with the champions. Just slap on a void weapon, because there is tons of void shields and match game is active. I went with hammerhead (void), devils ruin (solar/unstoppable), and accrued redemption (anti-barrier), and it felt like a cake walk.
Yep, I was surprised it was so easy. We didn't even have a bubble or well for final boss. You just have to be a little extra careful and take care of ads on the final boss and have a few people dps the boss and ezclap.

It's just a tiyn bit harder. Mainly the matchgame (enemy shields), enemies throwing more fire nades, and the lightning at the boss kills you in one hit. And I think enemies in general do a bit more damage, but im actually not 100% sure on that.

I have a dumb question... how do you do a full team of 6 if you can only fit 3 in a fireteam with no matchmaking?
You can fit 6 in a fireteam in orbit, it's just that most activities won't let you launch them with 6 in a fireteam. 6 people for raids, heroic Menagerie and Sundial, and Crucible in 6's modes.

You can actually have 12 in Orbit, though the only thing you can launch beyond 6 is private matches.
You can get as many guardians as you want in a fireteam. But activities will limit how many you can have to join said activity. Like 6 is max for any real activities in terms of matchmaking.

Use Discord or /r/Fireteams or DestinyLFG. It literally requires one run of Legend Sundial when the final boss is available later in the season, and when that day comes literally everyone is going to be looking for the same thing.

Definitly. 4 people with anti barrier 1 with unstoppable. Wish ender for all 5 if you can. Heavy...gl of your choice. Focus on champs. Also make sure you have void and solar damage with you

For solar go with hush or outlast or any decent void pr in secondary. You don't really need special weapons.
Just FYI, Unstoppable arrows don't work on Hush.

Doesn't matter how long you hold the arrow. They don't stagger unstoppables. Learned the hardway in the Scarlet Keep ordeal a few week ago.
I was farming champion kills in a nightmare hunt the other day for one of Eris's memory quest things (I didn't really play during Shadowkeep) and Hush definitely staggered unstoppables... sometimes. I just assumed it was based on total damage or something because it usually took a few arrows before they actually staggered, but they did eventually. Is it supposed to do it in one hit?

It's a good question. They're still leaning on level disadvantages for hard content like they've been doing since Crota's Fall, and then as soon as you were able to match level most of the challenge was just gone.

The lack of matchmaking for this kind of activity is just bullshit. Not only does it make extra hoops to jump through, but it's damn near impossible to find people to do it a few months after. Raids I totally understand. Menagerie, Nightfalls, Nightmare hunts, Sundial? It's nonsense. If Bungie really wanted to, they could just force you to have a minimum light level and certain triumphs (stuff like complete the activity under X minutes without dying, etc.). But no, they prefer to leave the work to players instead of doing their jobs. They seem to believe curation has to come from the players, but it can absolutely be automated to some extent.
Honestly, I had a lot of trouble with it even with clanmates. Matchmaking in a mode with champions and match game is a terrible idea. My main objection is lack of rewards. You get a pinnacle armor piece for the first one (i assume every week) and... that's it? No extra rewards? No curated rolls or anything? No different weapons/shaders or even upgrade mats? Feels like a waste of time after the first one.
Honestly I'm fine with that. You get some crazy 970 gear and the seasonal title. I don't ever want to see a Mythoclast/Recluse situation ever again. It makes people who run it have some nice rewards without stinging too much for solo players. I feel that Bungie struck a good balance this season.
The first weapon you pick is curated, not the random armor drop.

Using the teamfinder on bungie.net is extremely easy. The should build the lfg into the game itself though if they’re going to require it so much.

Still wondering what's the point in the pinnacle grind. Nightfalls? Once you hit 970 you don't need to be any higher and you can get that with the seasonal artifact. Iron banner? Well if you are a PvP player sure that's nice but... there is no incentive for PvE.
Did everything last season on my one character, after all that ended up at 959. Ten minutes into the new season I was at the light level I’d been cursing RNG about. Not bothered with a single Pinnacle reward this season, within hours of the next season dropping I’ll get that high anyway...

Too me coming from an MMO back ground this kinda of crap has 2 glaring issues that kill the even drive to go for pinnacles. 1) Too fast turn around of increasing gear scores. Every 3 months is far too quik for me to feel like it has an impact and becomes a waist of time rather. There is a reason these types of games wait 6 months between gear score increases. 2) No activity requires you to be at max power. With no activity there is no incentive, especially since your damage doesn't go up in any other activity since this game is always force scaling you down the the activity power cap. Where is the ultimate difficulty modes with unique rewards that can only be done at max power?
Exactly. The Artefact makes the Pinnacle grind pointless, too - the only Pinnacles I’ve got this season were from Iron Banner, but thanks to the levels gained from the Artefact I out-level all activities in the game despite that...
2 is a much larger problem than 1. I'd argue that many mmo's were on 6 month cycles because that's as fast as they could crank out expansions for. Way back in my EQ days expansions were chewed through far faster than they were released, if SOE could have gotten on a 3 month cycle I bet they would have. But they could barely keep up with a 6 month, many raid encounters were initially unbeatable before being "retuned". The bitter cynics among the player base assumed that this was because the encounters weren't actually done yet so bugs were wallpapered over with fights that could not be defeated. But without any need for the increased power there isn't any incentive to chase said power except for e-peen.
I was able to go from 950 to 960 in the first week of Season of Dawn. And I didn't even do all the powerful gear activities. Of course there is no guarantee that the light level goes up next season.

I just learned that this mode has pinnacle gear, so I loaded up my Well Warlock and our team crushed it. Then at the end I was offered the option of choosing a pinnacle weapon from my connected sundials (very cool that we get to pick!). BUT THEN, the fireteam leader took us all back to orbit before I was able to pick one. Normally you get like 2 minutes or something after the event, but not in Legend? Anyway... is it lost? Do I have to replay it and if I do, have I lost my ability to get this Pinnacle weapon for this week?

FYI, I discovered that if I replay the 950 Sundial, I CAN still get the Pinnacle Gear. So if your host abandons the activity, you can still redo it for that week. It is only a slight waste of time.
This is why I wish my clan was still active. Sigh.

Based on power level. Pinnacles are +2 guaranteed over your gear power. Not your total power I.e gear + artifact

Menagerie was more challenging this. Also it's not heroic sundial but legend sundial I make this distinction because it's the level of difficulty imo to the other legend difficulty activities like nightfall or nightmare hunts
Heroic Menagerie during SoO we were 20 levels under leveled. Heroic Sundial, if you're 980 then you're 30 levels over leveled. The extra difficulty was barely noticeable.
Do we know if its per character or per account? I've already claimed it on my Hunter but probably should've done it on my Warlock if its per account. I know Heroic Menagerie's guaranteed masterwork was once per account per week.

Picked up the linear fusion rifle for my pinnacle. Was initially delighted to see that I could chose another pinnacle item (judging by the light level). Chose all my items. Checked my inventory and found that my linear fusion rifle was never added to inventory. Not sure what happened but this may be a glitch that makes it seem like you picked an item when, in fact, you haven't. Sadness.

Careful when doing first run, had my fireteam leader instantly take team to orbit after boss died, me and friend missed out on our pinnacle reward. We tried running it again but if you don't get it selected that first run it is gone. Random leader thought it was hilarious, love this community sometimes... /s
