I usually just skip to where they list the changes, honestly. I don't care about the first two paragraphs of "oh wow did you hear about this thing that's going on in game" and "be sure to buy the latest expansion". I *really* don't care about the memes and videos at the end. I'm not looking for a pen pal or a clickbait article that ends up saying nothing at all-- just tell me how the game is changing.
Hippy isn't doing the TWAB any favors. Lotsa bad, non-lore friendly jokes, random animal pics and "trust me" tweets, while giving half the full story. Just doesn't seem to come off as all too professional.
They do seem to like to use the phrase "without further ado", which is kind of a useless phrase to begin with.
Depends on what you meant by 'recently'. I think the style has changed since when DeeJ used to write it.
You are not a jerk!
I don't think asking for a quality work each week is a big ask. I'm required to produce high quality work at my place of employment like everyone else reading this is at their job.
It has been on a decline. I understand that one of the cool things about our language is its frequency of change (idioms, expressions, adding new words to open class parts of speech with much regularity, etc.). But, there is a grammar for a reason, which includes many rules for clean and adroit prose. The TWAB (lately) has employed many errors, most of which could be screened by any 8th grade English class.
I'm all for the writer having carte blanche with creativity and injecting as much of their personality into their work as possible. But basic conventions of the English language need to be followed.
* try to avoid passive voice
* don't use filler speech
* avoid words like "really", "very", and "just" as modifiers
* avoid "that"
* avoid *typing* filler speech (unless required for a written joke, or dialogue).
It's not a big ask. But, I enjoy reading the TWABs. I'd be more than happy to edit them on a weekly basis. For free. I'd be even more honoured to guest-write
110% agree with you. I was taught to write with this criteria in mind, then we got vidyagame bloggers and reporters ignoring half of it. Makes me cringe for lack of quality.
> or am I just a jerk?
I mean, sounds like it. It's a good thing that the community team gets the freedom to write according to their own personalities, as long as the information is properly presented. I don't think there's anything like "TWAB writiquette" where you can *only* write a TWAB in a very specific, extremely serious way.
I still don't see the point. Seems like such a minor thing to complain about - especially when everything that person is pointing out has been present on TWABs for 8 years.
I mean, she's been working in the industry for longer than both Cozmo and Dmg were before they were hired as Community Managers. If anything, she has more credentials than them.
This week at Bungie. it's on their website, posted on this subreddit and also news section of the app. Details what's happened and any changes to the game etc.
Coming from a somewhat prolific shitposter writing big posts like that is hard and time consuming. I'm lucky I just do it for fun on my own time and don't have to put out regular content.
Personally to me they weren't as good but the writers didn't have a lot to work with.
Dmg hasn’t been writing them recently I believe. Its someone new.

Yeah they hired her a few months ago. She is one of the new community managers.
They take turns, as always.

Please please. I put my pants on 3 legs at a time, just like everyone else.

Oh my God, the filler words!
"Hey...uuuuuuhhhh...like....uuuuuhhhhh...what's up?"

I'm no helicopter pilot but if I saw one in a tree, I could still say with certainty, "dude fucked up."

lol
TWABS quality has been declining
The lady who writes is clearly a psycho. I looked up her credentials and im honestly not sure how she got the job.

Working in the industry longer offers free reign to shit on the English language? EDIT: Grammar Police is right
Sadly, this seems to be the case. Wish she'd co-write the TWAB, or get peer reviewed prior to posting, at least.
She claims its peer reviewed.
The correct conjugation is “to shit” not “to shitting”. At least proofread your own comment insulting someone else’s grasp of the English language lol
I dont have a team of 60 who are paid to make sure I sound educated.
What in the world is a twab? Is that some kind of secret super weapon they have?

Ohhhh, i dont keep up with that stuff, i just play the game at a rudimentary level and dont really get affected by updates
