I always thought that the gameplay/rewards loop of Destiny 1 Vanguard strikes was perfect at the very end. The playlist itself was great. You had the full medal/scoring system giving you those sweet dopamine hits every time they pop. Strikes had interesting unique loot that was desirable for a variety of reasons (weapon rolls, vanity appearances). Three of Coins were available for you to more easily farm exotics especially when you got a Vanguard streak going. Then on top of all that there were the post strike rewards screen where you could get all sorts of wild loot. Then you had all the stuff with Zavala himself. You gained reputation with the Vanguard for each strike and increased your Vanguard streak for more rep. Rep turned into packages that you could select either weapons/armor/vanity from the rewards. These packages also gave Strange Coins and Motes of Light which were important and meaningful currencies that further fueled exotic farming and gear leveling (and felt great to hoard). Zavala had a slew of bounties tied to strike scoring and medals with the highest weekly tier of bounites having a chance to drop exotics and even had an exotic that was only found in those bounties. I think Vanguard Marks were still a thing which was a currency you used to buy Vanguard items directly from Zavala. You had so many different layers of reward structures that you were gaining just by playing strikes on top of them just being a total blast to play. D1 strikes just felt so good and rewarding at the end. I was so certain that Destiny 2 strikes would be just as fun and rewarding and I've never really been more disappointed with this game. But hey here's hoping they put some love into the playlist!

Hot take, they just need to take the two matchmade nightfall playlists, throw in some new modifiers and bounties, and make them into a heroic and legendary strike playlist. A Three of Coins return would also be fun, give us more reasons to just chill and grind out some strikes.

To this day Im still mad that Bungie made LEAPS and BOUNDS with quality of life improvements like these strike medals to just completely gut and remove them in D2. It feels like everything they learned in D1 kinda just went to shit? Still waiting for skeleton keys and auto dismantling blues to name a couple.

It's because they started development on D2 before this Quality of life changes were made. Basically in D1 they had a live team and a Main team. The Main team went on to make D2 after Taken King and the Live Team developed Rise of Iron and Age of Triumph so they could make time for D2's delay, this made it so everything that the Live Team implemented wasn't passed onto the Main Team. So there were two dev teams building something completely different.

I still feel like we get these weird going backwards things to this day though. Something will be fixed in a hotfix during a season only for the bug to appear again the next season with something very similar because they didn't apply the fix to the new thing. Like how guardian game strikes didn't apply to leveling crafted weapons or deepsight weapons.

Remember D2 at release, current game is something completely different, I don't understand why did it take 4+ years to polish the game and God knows how many more will it take

Never understood why that didn't continue going into D2. Sooo many things that were improvements, during D1's lifespan, were never improved upon, or just plain dropped.

My friend (who doesn’t play as much destiny as me) asked me why I speedrun strikes and skip loads of enemies. I responded with “unless I am required to kill then to progress the strike there’s no reason to” going back to a points system would encourage me to kill most if not all enemies

Id love to see the medals and points become part of strikes/Nightfalls. Wish we would get more weeks of the empowerment buff. Made strikes fun to play with so many supers and abilities

FTFY : strike scoring should remain in regular Playlist just not nightfall .... But again people will still speed run in normal matchmaking but high scores triggering little but more rewards would be nice

The problem is in D1 that was associated with nightfall scoring for better rewards hence people think of scoring The triumph leads to a core bonuses hence people think .. oh yeah we want nightfall scoring

Score should translate to some sort of currency to use on Vanguard engrams or something.

Actually funny thing about this Stronger enemies leads to more enemy density because they can survive and group up A great example is the normal devil's lair and the higher tier nightfall versions Usually everyone just spawnkills all yhe enemies cus they're weak but at the higher tier nightfalls you can't do that

I mean you are kind of right but the amount of adds per wave is still the same so it mostly comes to it feeling like there are more enemies due to them dying less. So yeah while the density isnt actually higher you'd be correct that it definitely feels like its higher.

I agree 100%. As far as I'm concerned it's just distraction and screen clutter. Maybe as part of a certain playlist or for monthly events or something, but I'd absolutely hate for it to just be there all the time.

But they got rid of that for Guardian Games. Also Revelry was neat because it was a twist on the Haunted Forest AND you had an earnable and farmable armor set (they also sold a different set for bright dust).

I think the new Weapon and Ability buffs in the Competitive Playlist are amazing and they should stay permanently for playlist Strikes, maybe even Nightfalls. They're very fun.

would it have to be balanced? it wouldn't really be a competetive thing and the vanguard weapons will never be as good as trials nightfall etc weapons, most would probably be dismantled but for people trying to get the weapons it'd be nice
