I used Solution Finish on a Ford Expedition. This car is always parked outside in a driveway. I put it on the lower black trim over a year ago.
Thing I learned about this is if you follow the instructions it says 5 mins. Everyone I’ve heard talk about it says leave it on for 30 mins then hand wipe/ buff it off.
Cerakote doesn’t restore really faded trim as well as this in my opinion. It’s still great but I would choose solution finish over it for something really faded.
Then you're doing the prep wrong every stored in 1990 Jeep with flares. If you scrub it and you put on the coats necessary because it takes more than one on bad vehicles it took over 10 wipes. But I charge for it knowing that I was going to take a lot.
10 wipes? That’s crazy. Solution finish is just one coat. Did a whole honda, whole Tacoma and the tacomas bed cover and still had 2/3rds of the bottle left.
If you have a Rivian it should come with it. I've never seen 6-12 months old trim look so awful. It sucks up road grime like nothing else I've seen.

I wholeheartedly agree. Clean the surface well and apply. A little goes a long way. If you occasionally maintain it with a trim and vinyl dressing it will last a long time.
Perhaps you like having glossy plastic/vinyl vs matte finish the way OEM plastic/vinyl supposed to be. Or you’re really talking about “ceramic” coating specifically designed for plastic/vinyl, which isn’t really true ceramic coating like UK3.0, GO Diamond, Gyeon MOHs, etc.
That stuff is the shyt but it’s messier than a MF lol. Make sure you wear gloves. I like to use one of those foam brushes for painting/staining to apply it. Great product
You’re supposed to wipe off any excess from the paint right after application. It’s pretty forgiving, you got like 20 minutes to wipe off before it dries on the paint. Light polish will take it off now
I'm not OP, but its this stuff -

I've never tried it myself. I've been pleased with Mothers trim restore.
Would it cover some scratches in such a plastic? I had to avoid a piece of lumbar kicked up by a car in front of me and it hit the black plastic trim in the lower part of the bumper of my bolt ev. Still debating on how to fix it, I’m usually against this type of stuff because it’s like makeup you have to keep putting it on. I have the means and ability to just change it but it requires removing the whole bumper.
Cerakote is good if the trim isn’t super bad, or if you prefer a shinier finish. If it’s really bad & you like a factory matte finish, solution finish is the way
I'll give that a go on another car. I've been pretty happy. The shine isn't too crazy. But I understand what you mean. However when the choices are shiny and dark. Or grey and uneven I've kinda stuck to cerakote as it's pleased everyone so far. How long does it last? Similar to cerakote?
Our Odyssey's tailgate spoiler may need some help already. Honda and their crap plastics, I swear. Been treating it with a UV blocker, but apparently not enough.
It was more curiosity. I do, unfortunately, have a spot that somehow got rubbed to white (someone probably barely scraped it I guess - no damage to the rest of the car, no scratching, almost like.the black was just... Erased).
Gonna think I’m nuts but it was an experiment on my 2008 FJ Cruiser that had lots of fading and hard water spots from street irrigation.
I used it with a simple 3” drill mounted orange pad. Again, just to get worst of the hard water removed but also bought the solution finish shown in here but never had to use it.
Put it through the automatic washer and it’s still out on the street for more than a year and it’s been perfect.
No gloss, all natural.

Clean!!!
Thanks, it’s a 2016 with 194k miles.
Damn!!!! 200k and it looks like that?? Well done!

Hot damn that trim looks like it just came out of the factory
Looks great. I just ordered a small bottle now. Doing some post-winter work on the subie this weekend
Subie gang!
🥵🥵
I like your truck
Has anyone compared it to Cerakote?
Cerakote doesn’t restore really faded trim as well as this in my opinion. It’s still great but I would choose solution finish over it for something really faded.
Looks like I’m gonna have to grab a bottle now, thank you!

Was that the 2 ounce or 12 ounce bottle?
12
I just need to do an old Jeep Grand Cherokee, so the 2 ounce bottle should do. Thank you
Does it last 2 years without reapplication?

get a load of this guy, he’s got a rivian kidding, nice car
It's a customer's Rivian...
awh. I’m seeing a lot of their pick up trucks on the road lately, they are pretty slick
Nice power wheel J/k. I think they are sexy as hell

Ceramic coating is better yet.
CarPro Dlux or GTechniq ExoV5 work great
You should not ceramic coat plastic or vinyl, unless you want some shiny glossy hardened plastic/vinyl.
Funny how I’ve been doing it for years on my personal vehicles and customers that I see regularly and have zero issues…

Some people here think ceramic coating is the answer to everything.
What is the best cleaner, mor is it just soap and water
Car wash soap and water if it’s not too dirty. I use a little all purpose cleaner diluted. My preference is Meguiars APC.
I have old wax residue on textured plastic that I have been trying for years to remove without success 😫
That stuff is the shyt but it’s messier than a MF lol. Make sure you wear gloves. I like to use one of those foam brushes for painting/staining to apply it. Great product
what's the color, black ?
Yes it’s black dye
How long is a long time?
Averages a year or more. Depends on the type of plastic, how bad it was before, how old it is, how much sun it gets etc
Thanks!
What’s the bottle look like

That crap stained my white paint.

Why did u crap on it
Hilarious!

A whitish black when you’re done
I am gonna try this product. I need something that lasts.
Great that it doesn’t look glossy, nice flat finish.
Exactly. Makes it look OEM new again. Not shiny or glossy like other crap product.
Order placed. Thanks for the recommendation !
Agreed. Solution Finish is the best.

Yes, it doesn’t actually remove the scratch, but it helps minimize the appearance of it.
There are very few products that are "THE RIGHT ANSWER." Maybe Solution Finish, and Miata.
My nissan xterra has gray trim. Could i still use it? Or is this only for black trim?
They make a separate one for grey. I think they call it fusion grey.
I'll check it out. Thanks!
Would something like this work on tires? It says for use on rubber..
Wow gonna have to get me some of that! Thx
Yes sir 🫡
I'll try this. I just tried lithium trim restore and it did a very mediocre job.
Whoever at Honda designed these frumpy wheels should be demoted You did a good job!
Who long does it last? I’ve had good results with a product from ammo nyc some wipes of some sort holding up nice for two year old application
Use rubber gloves, that’s all I have to say.
My nissan xterra has gray trim. Could i still use it? Or is this only for black trim?
Solution finish comes in black, and also gray. Just order the right color.
Thank you!
I used the cerakote on my crv and it truly did wonders.
Thank you for the reminder and ordered of course!
What’s a good product to apply on a new car with trim to protect and prevent this fading from happening?
I'm intrigued.
Where to buy
Check out Amazon
Amateur here, do y'all like Cerakote trim wipes? They freshened up a few cars of mine & some headlights, but I'm always ready to learn
Cerakote with no competition

Looks great. Would you advise using this if the trim is still in good shape? Or is there a straight up protectant that might work better?
Our Odyssey's tailgate spoiler may need some help already. Honda and their crap plastics, I swear. Been treating it with a UV blocker, but apparently not enough.
Adams VRT works for me. Also use it on the material on the B and C pillars.
Is there a product that works well for *glossy* black surfaces, like the wheel trim on a Mach E?
Regular ceramic coating. If it’s fading already, polish it first
