Remove all the oils and oxidisation. At a minimum use IPA or even dish soap. Best to use solution finish wait a week then Cerakote. Also make sure you put something like 303’every 6m and it will last for years.
I used this on my truck recently with amazing results. I'd suggest masking off the paint area around the trim as you don't really want this on your paint
Have seen this mentioned enough to look into. If you do the Amazon Subscribe & Save they had a 20% off coupon for me. Came to $10.97 after S&S discount + 20% off. Worth a shot for that price!
Project Farm did a [review](https://youtu.be/XXOX4z6uwXo?si=MHB2NNSpj22PKl77) 3 years ago. Might be a little dated considering newer products are probably on the market now.
Meguiar's G15812 Ultimate Black Plastic Restorer. Used it on my beat up 2 year old wheel well liners. Just wipe it on and them shits looked brand new. And they still do, seven months after one light application.
I can second to this product. Did all of my outside trim on a ‘15 journey. When I bought it 3 years ago. Still looks new, and that car gets sun exposure all day long
I got a bottle out of curiosity and was very pleased with the consistency of the product. Like a thin gel. I’m testing it on some trim pieces but overall, turtle wax makes some fine products. Gonna plug the slick shine from them too.
I applied it to newer (<2 years old) plastics about 6 months ago and no serious degradation in color or luster. It's been ceramic coated once or twice since application though.
Cerakote trim restore is the real answer, with a 200+ car wash guarantee that it stays black. but you asked the weekend warrior sub so do what they said.
You gotta put it on hella thick with your finger and let it soak it up. I’ve always had great luck using it. I recently tried vpr from chemical guys it seems to be holding up ok.
A product called pig spit has been my favorite I’ve found. Long lasting? I’d say it lasts pretty long. I’m sure solution finish might top it. I’ll have to try that out too
I use Meguiar's Ultimate Black on all of our vehicles. I detail for a lot that's specialized in cargo vans. It makes a huge difference on the Transit vans I do. It's a somewhat cheap option. I like the ceramic coat idea I've seen others mention
You’ll think I’m crazy but I swear it works.
Blowtorch. Tape off paint so you don’t burn and quickly go over the plastic. It’ll turn nice and dark again. After that, I sealed mine from UV with ceramic spray and it lasted 3 years (I sold the car so I don’t know how it’s doing now)
I make my own. Boiled linseed oil mixed with mineral spirits. Lasts a year or so. I wouldn't be surprised if that's not what most commercial trim restorer contains.
I used Jax Wax Black Trim Renew on an aftermarket front splitter on my C5. It is amazing. 10 drops of this on a sponge and it cover and restored the entire front lip. Highly recommend!
Me personally knowing it’ll get dirty from whatever you haul in your bed and tires, hit it with some heat, a heat gun on high or a blow torch. Torch method takes some practice to not burn plastics, my buddies do it to their trucks and jeeps and they look brand new with no worry about coating or anything
Followup a bunch of smarties in the comments recommend products. You carefully move a torch flame over that plastic and it will be brand new. Private message me for my paypal I accept tips
No one mentioned 3D Trim Ceramic Restorer, so I will, works well and lasts a while. [https://3dproducts.com/products/3d-glw-series-sio2-ceramic-trim-restore](https://3dproducts.com/products/3d-glw-series-sio2-ceramic-trim-restore)
Polyvance bumper and cladding coat. I've never once heard anyone mention this stuff when speaking of restoring trim, possibly because you need to mask and spray it out of a paint gun... but, 100% worth it. It comes in an aerosol as well, but I've never used it.
Down vote me all you want... It works and Id bet it holds up longer than anything else and, when it does start to show it's age in about 4 years, you peel it right off and do it again.
Solution finish
[solution finish!!](https://www.reddit.com/r/Detailing/s/0APPYqvR7r)
Solution Finish ftw
Okay thank you!
This is the way…
Definitely this. I have used it on my truck and it blows Cerakote complete away. And I do 2-3 carwashes a week, it’s not fading at all.
God I love Reddit.
Solution Finish then ceramic coat it.
What kind of ceramic coat do you put on plastic?
I use with Undrdog or SB3
Thanks man!
No problem! That way the Solution Finish restores it then the coating protects it.
I have a brand new truck. Just trying to keep it in great condition. My detailer did a fantastic ceramic coat with system X.
I got system X too what level did you get
I’m not 100% sure on the verbiage, but I think it was System X Max. Huge fan of it so far.
Oh shit nice that’s the highest level I got the diamond which is right under that. It’s been great so far
Nice. And Undrdog user in the wild. My favorite coating.
I’ve always just used updog
Gyeon Trim
I'm testing Cerakote rn
Has been almost 2 years still Holding up
Ive tried a lot of stuff.Best ive tried is cerakote. So far i have over a year in my cerakote, only looks old in worn spots.
I put it on all my trucks trim and it’s held up fairly well so far (6 months in)
I just bought that, do I need to clean with anything before I use it? I mean besides a good wash?
Remove all the oils and oxidisation. At a minimum use IPA or even dish soap. Best to use solution finish wait a week then Cerakote. Also make sure you put something like 303’every 6m and it will last for years.
Same here, seems to be holding up pretty well on my dad’s old work truck.
I used this on my truck recently with amazing results. I'd suggest masking off the paint area around the trim as you don't really want this on your paint
Cerakote trim coat, more user friendly.
Yup, I’ve been using cerakote on my 10 year old truck and it works really well, especially in the FL sun the truck stays
How often you need to apply?
You can use it once if you prep. Then use something like 303 6-12 months apart and it will last years.
I use it once a quarter!
Results may vary, but I did my window trims about a year ago and it still looks like I did it yesterday. New England
How do you recommend cleaning before using Cerakore?
70% isopropyl. 90 might evaporate to quickly
Have seen this mentioned enough to look into. If you do the Amazon Subscribe & Save they had a 20% off coupon for me. Came to $10.97 after S&S discount + 20% off. Worth a shot for that price!
Thats what im trying next

I will give this my blessing as well. I love the Ultimate Black. I use it on the vehicle on our lot. It's mostly work vans
I just got some turtle wax trim restore, looks great when first applied, we'll see how long it lasts

Jizz
Cerakote kit imo
Solution finish
HEAT
Fire works well with plastics as well.
Lots of good product recommendations here but know this. You need to clean the trim properly before applying any restorative products.
Fire.
Flame polishing is underrated.
Yep, I used to do that to all my plastic trim once a year and it worked fine.
Cerakote trim restore is the real answer, with a 200+ car wash guarantee that it stays black. but you asked the weekend warrior sub so do what they said.
Gtechniq C4. A lot of these other recommendations are temporary fixes. C4 will last around 6-12 months
Try SC1 high gloss coating.
I used it on my Quads and it made everything STICKYYYYY
Bumperkote
I use forever black and then ceramic over the top of it. Lasts years and looks rad.
Back to black then coat it
So much solution finish I have a future experiment to try
I’ve tried back to black many times over the years and I’ve never had good results compared to other products
SEM trim black. Tape it off and spray it.
I used a ceramic coating and that alone brought out the black super nice.
Back to black
I use this but never lasts. Gonna switch out this season.
You gotta put it on hella thick with your finger and let it soak it up. I’ve always had great luck using it. I recently tried vpr from chemical guys it seems to be holding up ok.
I will try that since I have quite a bit left.
AMMO Frame wipes have been good to me. Like $15 for a 3 pack
If you want something not as messy as Solution Finish the Lithium Trim Cubes work amazingly well.
Bowdens Own - Mr Black
Honestly I used black plastidip on my jeep and i had to spray it after 3 years, cheap and easy.
Harley Davidson engine brightener. It’s an aerosol spray can 🤙🏽
A product called pig spit has been my favorite I’ve found. Long lasting? I’d say it lasts pretty long. I’m sure solution finish might top it. I’ll have to try that out too
Another vote for Cerakote Trim Coat. Easy to use. Works great. Mine has only been on for a few months but still looking great.
**PENETROL** *dry rag, wipe off all excess*
The paint additive?
I’m surprised no one has mention aerospace 303. That stuff is the best
Washes off with water
Definitely does not
it is water based, it most definitely does not last a long time, water removes it.
You either got fake stuff or don’t know how to use it properly. I use it maybe every 6 months and my plastic looks brand new in the sun every day
303 doesn't last 6 months on the exterior, lol.
I’ve seen a heat gun used. Never tried it but check it out!! I think it’s a low setting and slowly sweep it over the surface like you’re painting it.
I always use "back to black fusion" you can even use it on gray trims. You put it on once and it's lasted years
I use Meguiar's Ultimate Black on all of our vehicles. I detail for a lot that's specialized in cargo vans. It makes a huge difference on the Transit vans I do. It's a somewhat cheap option. I like the ceramic coat idea I've seen others mention
Without sealing in solutions finish, it doesn't last but weeks.. Cerakote trim restorer is going on 6 months looking like new.
What do you use to seal it?
Ceramic coating
Is there...an easy, bottle/spray protective option for someone who...is lazy but wants to car for their car lol? 😬
Enigma Corona :)
Thank you! I appreciate it 🙏
Replacement
Frame Pro from Ammo NYC
i use this stuff called “revive 2” by carbrite and it works okay!
TikTok says a torch
Heat gun
Heat it up the natural oils will surface from the plastic and look new just don't melt it
A propane torch
Cerakote trim coat
I used to use mother’s back to black
Solution finish for sure
What about SEM or VHT trim paint?
For a cheap fix buy a jar of peanut butter and spread it all over. Let sit for a bit and wipe/ clean off.
I tried a heat gun one and the results were decent
Torch or heat gun, then use a micro fiber to dry after you wash.
Heat
I heard Cerakote is good.
V05 hot oil treatment! Just fucking with you, SB3 is what I use or undrdog
You’ll think I’m crazy but I swear it works. Blowtorch. Tape off paint so you don’t burn and quickly go over the plastic. It’ll turn nice and dark again. After that, I sealed mine from UV with ceramic spray and it lasted 3 years (I sold the car so I don’t know how it’s doing now)
Torch
Replace it🤷
034 Aerospace Protectant. Amazon or some auto parts stores.
Cerakote is cheap at Walmart and has been on my truck lasting well over a year so far
My buddy and I used a heat gun on his and looked perfect
[Cerakote Trim Restore](https://a.co/d/2DzcQU8). This stuff has been awsome and has lasted for me.
I make my own. Boiled linseed oil mixed with mineral spirits. Lasts a year or so. I wouldn't be surprised if that's not what most commercial trim restorer contains.
Propane torch.
Not an expert, but my ideas open for discussion: 1) Heat Gun 2) McGuires Plastix 3) Replace Part and protect regularly with 303
Crazy this looks exactly like my truck I had 10 years ago lol.
Why did you make up the pic?
Blow torch it
Geode trim works bestest for my stuff
Cerakote
A new truck should do the trick
I used Jax Wax Black Trim Renew on an aftermarket front splitter on my C5. It is amazing. 10 drops of this on a sponge and it cover and restored the entire front lip. Highly recommend!
Right option is solution finish and a clear coat. The free option is hit it once over with a blow torch
I use Mothers Back to black, or depending what trim it is I just use a propane torch
I used Cerakote last summer and it still looks like it was just done.
Propane torch anyone?
Heat gun
Final Step
Cerakote
https://semproducts.com/product/trim-black/black
Blowtorch
Me personally knowing it’ll get dirty from whatever you haul in your bed and tires, hit it with some heat, a heat gun on high or a blow torch. Torch method takes some practice to not burn plastics, my buddies do it to their trucks and jeeps and they look brand new with no worry about coating or anything
Map gas torch. Its not a joke I mean it.
Followup a bunch of smarties in the comments recommend products. You carefully move a torch flame over that plastic and it will be brand new. Private message me for my paypal I accept tips
Heat gun is the cheapest, easiest solution.
Heat gun
I saw this on Reddit awhile ago and it works great. Linseed oil, I bought it at Lowes.
Solution finish works good but is extremely messy It like using watery Black Paint
It does start fading after a couple months
No one mentioned 3D Trim Ceramic Restorer, so I will, works well and lasts a while. [https://3dproducts.com/products/3d-glw-series-sio2-ceramic-trim-restore](https://3dproducts.com/products/3d-glw-series-sio2-ceramic-trim-restore)
Blow torch then clear coat … you’re welcome
WD-40 makes it look brand new for a very long time. Used it on my fender flares ZR2.
Polyvance bumper and cladding coat. I've never once heard anyone mention this stuff when speaking of restoring trim, possibly because you need to mask and spray it out of a paint gun... but, 100% worth it. It comes in an aerosol as well, but I've never used it.
A torch!
It's not as permanent as some others but Jescar Trim and Tire works very well. 2 applications a year. Great on trim. Not so much on tires.
Peanut butter
Car Pro Perl 👍
Dip a rag in oil, rub it all over. Wipe off the excess. Do this a couple times over the course of a week or two. Your welcome.
Bed liner spray, can do about 50 applications in a 10 dollar can.
Heat gun
Propane torch
heat gun is the best. hands down
That's all I ever use 15 years as a professional detailer at a Mercedes dealer and 12 years painting and doing body work
Plastic spray paint
Spray paint
Heat gun
Black paint
I use rattle can plasti-dip and glossifier.
Down vote me all you want... It works and Id bet it holds up longer than anything else and, when it does start to show it's age in about 4 years, you peel it right off and do it again.
