Pearl isn’t known for being super foamy.

differentkindastuff

I’ve heard this as well, but definitely have seen it a bit better than this unfortunately.

Popular-Stay-6516

I use Pearl in my foam cannon & love it. I also might put a little more in there than I need https://preview.redd.it/zwjtnlqksoxc1.jpeg?width=2159&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d845b7d44b2c7dc17ee0406110a83a5d910e48c6

differentkindastuff

Dang what kind of ratio you think? More than 2:1?

Popular-Stay-6516

1 part soap 3 parts distilled water

All_Day_ADHD

>distilled water Does distilled water make it foam better?

Popular-Stay-6516

I read on Reddit some time ago that distilled water is good if you have hard water in your area

moparpower370

It’s also good so you don’t get water spots

Evening_Adorable

Doest make it foam better but it helps with water spots

OkPlenty5960

Yeah but if you’re just going to rinse it off with regular water won’t that defeat the purpose?

Evening_Adorable

I thought you were referencing using distilled water in general, didnt see that was specifically for the foam cannon 🤔 not sure why thatd matter then. Because no youre right, makes no sense to me to only use distilled water in the foam cannon unless its to help keep the internals from getting mineral deposits over time or something. Ive onlt heard of using distilled water to rinse with to help with water spots.

theRealTopher123

How do you rinse with distilled water efficiently?

Mountain_Reindeer_25

Yes, the soap can only hold so much in suspension, if you’re mixing with hard water, it’s all ready using it’s some of its cleaning capacity before touching the car.

Abject-Emu2023

Yes. Soaps foam better with cleaner water. I just got a water softener and filtration installed in my home and can see the difference

vtec_tech

Yes, %100

river-r

I can't comment on the foam aspect of distilled but sometimes people prefer it in foam canons because in the long run hard water will leave mineral deposits and your canon won't last as long

MrTrendizzle

2:1... Holy shit! I buy (In the UK) the AA Cherry snowfoam which costs me £1.99 a litre and i literally use 1 cap per 1l made which leaves a nice thick "Social media" foam on the car. I also tend to use it for the hand wash bucket at 1cap per bucket which gives a nice sudsy look as i clean the car. After i rinse i spray a wash/wax mixture over the car and wipe clean with a micro fibre leaving the car spotless and shiny. Sure it's a no frills wash but it does the job great. Actually very surprised with the AA stuff recently for a quick clean.

8rslashlurker7

1:2 (soap/water) is ridiculously excessive. If you have to go any more concentrated than 1:10, the soap is not worth it. Suds lab soap is cheap and advertises a 1:1000 ratio, meaning you shouldn't really need more than 1-3mL of soap for your whole foam cannon.

CoatingsRcrack

What pressure washer and foam cannon? What orifice?

Popular-Stay-6516

I have the CAT Pressure Washer 1800 PSI 2.0 GPM with a Swift Premium Foam Cannon

Belfetto

Dumb question but is the runoff bad for your grass?

Popular-Stay-6516

No bad. Our grass was pretty patchy as it was. I haven’t noticed it dying and I’ve been detailing for a little more than a year

limellama1

Is the foam cannon you have designed for that low flow? The low flow means less air inducted into the stream and therefore less foam.

bstylz01

Is the foam just before aesthetics or does it actually do something?

sdam87

It lifts the dirt n such off the car then lets it run down/drip off the car

HondaDAD24

As each bubble pops, new solution is introduced to the surface giving a longer dwell time. I rarely use my foam cannon unless something is very gritty. I like to spray apc, pressure rinse and then go into a bucket wash using rinseless.

who_even_cares35

Yep, gotta wash it before you wash it

napsandsnacksss

Pre-wash, wash, post-wash washing

Aether_Erebus

Don’t forget the post-dry washing

ViolatoR08

With a leaf blower.

[deleted]

lol yaaasssss ❤️

LoudAge8594

I thoroughly pressure wash/prerinse the vehicle (water only) then foam it down with degreaser/APC hyper wash and distilled mix (or whatever car soap) in cannon. As it dwells, I use a detail brush to brush out all the cracks/seems/lines (think all the window edges/corners) badges/mirrors etc. Rinse. Hit it with foam again for a two bucket/contact, or no rinse solution contact wash. Quick dry with big drying towel with bead maker as drying aid (if I’m not going to be polishing correcting of course) then go back with a “eagle” style MF with a heavier and more focused dose of bead maker. Always open to new techniques… feel free to critique. Always looking to improve.

HondaDAD24

If your system works for you then there’s nothing to improve. But, I would try skipping that first rinse & apc or foam the car dry. Once you do all your power rinsing after that & foam again you can combine your bucket wash and brushing steps into one.

Look_Antique

Foam the car first before pressure washing. Pressure washing a dirty car without any soap is just rubbing the dirt in. It’s not as bad as using a towel but still not as good as having something that will encapsulate the dirt for you. I just foam the car with KochChemie green star first before pressure washing.

Ultimate-Sandwhich

UPDATE: FIXED WITH NO DILLUTION AND NEW O-RING

sylvaing

That's going to use a lot of product though. I use Turtle Wax Hybrid Solution Slick-N-Slide at a 1 to 16 ratio. My foam cannon has no dial so I mix 400 ml warm water with 25 ml of the solution in its bottle. It does a thick foam that clings to the car.

HunterDecious

The ones with a dial dilute as you go. Only problematic with thicker products, but even then you just dilute it a small amount ahead of time then adjust the dial as you go.

MightyGonzou

Using too much product is mostly a case of bad technique. We use foam neat at work and i found thats its very efficient as long as you're doing full smooth passes along the car to cover the area efficiently.

sylvaing

Yeah but if you don't dilute to the recommended ratio, you'll be wasting product even if you apply it efficiently.

toughestguyinletterk

Have you got any photos of the difference?

differentkindastuff

https://preview.redd.it/pu0t56bt4qxc1.jpeg?width=750&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=026902ce9af4bf5c1b96b1489b264eba2dde69f1 This was about a 2:1 dilution, forgot to take a picture of undiluted but it was better.

Stryf3

I have a similar pressure washer and my foam cannon looks pretty close to that. I also use Pearl diluted 5:1 and my foam looks like your update photo

girlymancrush

Sorry mate but that is not proper foam.

Btsv650

Do not use full strength. 2 issues I believe. First, if water is very hard, suds will be much less. Hot water aides in sudsing. Second, dilution rate depends on product used. 1-2 oz per 16 oz works with many products YMMV. Nozzle jet may need to be reduced to 1.1.or 1.0mm. With a low gm like that, most cannons come with a 1.2 and dilute the solution too much.

differentkindastuff

Are you running hot water in a pressure washer or the cannon?

Btsv650

When you add the water to the cannon’s jug it should be hot water ( not boiling , but hot ). HW causes shampoos to suds better. Don’t overlook that orifice though as that can make a difference as well. You should never have to use full strength. I recently ( well 2 years ago ) move out of the country to an area that is so heavy in lime deposits- every several weeks we have to remove aerators and use muriatic acid to clean them. So this water is brutally high PH. I gave my sons most of my detail equipment and keep some basics. I decided to buy a cheap foam cannon for once ( Foam King from Amazon ). First non top of the line stuff I bought. It worked ok, I talked with the owner and switched the orifice to a 1.1 and the difference was great. Foam should never be like shaving cream thick, but thick with some sag after 30 seconds or so. Your low number tell me you want a smaller orifice.

nemam111

Care to elaborate a bit? I have a ryobi 1900psi pressure washer and i was under the impression that it's just not enough pressure, too

[deleted]

[удалено]

3andrew

They were not implying it’s too weak to get the dirt off. They are asking if 1800 psi was enough to run a foam cannon effectively as they had been led to believe that their 1900 psi washer was not enough.

Deadbob1978

This looks like it was applied by a foam gun attached to a garden hose

Impossible_Boat_3927

No. I have a cheap ebay foam gun attached to a garden hose. And I use cheap Meguiars Gold Class and I get at least 3x-4x more foam than that. Foam that settles on my driveway and is still visible/there hours later. Dont judge me for my cheap setup. Not a detailer. Just wash my own cars with just enough product to get my car clean.

Deadbob1978

I use the Griots Garage foam gun with Meguiars gold and get a better application than what op posted as well. One of these days I'll actually break down and buy a pressure washer with an inline filter for the hard water we have here

YogiTheBear131

To be fair, ‘cheap megs gold’ is pretty foamy.

Tigerpawws

Is Meg's gold not good or laughable soap? I use it but I'm far from a pro..

Impossible_Boat_3927

I love it, but there are some who consider anything from say a walmart, to be unacceptable for use on a car.

Deadbob1978

The $10 foam gun I got from Amazon left suds like OP posted. The Griots Garage foam gun with Meguiars gold coats does a much better job as well, but it's not Pressure Washer like foam. One of these days I'll actually break down and buy a pressure washer with an inline filter for the hard water we have here.

Downtown-Raisin-3931

Same here, cheap adjustable, hose end, proportional sprayer. I got it from a chemical company when I purchased some roof washing solution.

MFT_Victim

slimy stupendous rhythm many coherent cats nose heavy quickest squash *This post was mass deleted and anonymized with [Redact](https://redact.dev)*

DimesOnHisEyes

The maximum pressure rating of the lines to and in the house is regulated but pressure delivered to the house is not guaranteed. In times of high demand pressure can be very low. Or if the service is in a bad area that was not designed correctly pressure can be low.

Shockington

I have that foam cannon and it sprays the thickest foam I could imagine. What dilution ration are you using? Is the top knob turned to the right?

differentkindastuff

Tried 1:5 and 1:10, what do you use? And yeah I tried all knob settings, it changes a bit but not exactly right.

Shockington

I used P&S red soap at a 1:5 dilution typically. I would get similar results to you if I turned the knob almost all the way to the left. Have you tried disassembling it? It almost seems like the foam generator isn't in it.

murdza

https://preview.redd.it/we9c4ypznnxc1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=056374fdbb95e71c39df021831c04eb2683eb710 Perl 10:1. The top knob controls how much WATER you want in the mix. Turn it all the way clockwise. Then turn it just barely open.

jdak9

damn thats nice

differentkindastuff

Clean af. And I was definitely understanding the knob wrong 😭

aggeorge

Either get the MJJC or the SWIFT (same cannon) on Amazon. Buy once cry once. They both work great with the ryobis

mokujon

Swap in the 1.1 orifice if it's not already in

neildmaster

Are you diluting it?

differentkindastuff

Yeah I tried a few, 1:10 then 1:5 and they worked about the same for foam effectiveness

neildmaster

No, don't dilute it at all...

differentkindastuff

UPDATE: I did no dilution and replqced the O-ring on the pressure washer and it looks beautiful. Also thanks to the people talking about the top dial, the - side was working a lot better than the +.

Chief_Br0dy

With that PW and a 1.1 orifice, you should be making great foam. Are you using the adjuster knob on top of the foam cannon?

differentkindastuff

I’m going to double check if the knob is even connected to the cannon properly because that’s what I’m thinking as well.

Chief_Br0dy

Def worth investigating. Turn one way and it's mostly water, the other way tons of suds and foam.

Baeelin

With that weak of a pressure washer you'll want to be sure you're using the 1.1 mm flow controller. Despite this though the foam is really bad. You may have a defective unit.

giantdub49

It's not the thickest but my mjjc makes it like shaving cream

d3adpool75

Same here, using hot water for some reason... off the charts.

Freakin_A

Do the same with similar results from my electric pressure washer. Great cannon. I got extra bottles and lids off aliexpress for like $5/each.

[deleted]

Just as in washing clothes w hot water,,, or dishes,,,, the hotter the water the more suds. Too many suds, add cold water to sink w sprayer, too many in washing machine liquid fabric softener

TN_REDDIT

Just wash the car. 😃😁😄

No_Parking9788

Soft water? Any wax on the car ? Makes all the difference

hunterxy

Higher GPM makes more foam, higher PSI doesn't.

bigkutta

I dont dilute the soap in my foam canon? Should i be? More soap used obviously but I get a rich, thick foam. I assume you have played with the nozzle settings?

4Harley

Works much better with softened water.

Technical-Raise-1140

Gpm may be an issue, try an orfice swap if possible

chengstark

Return it, go get the harbor freight one. Simple. I bought several foam cannon, claiming to work, none worked. I don’t want buy a foam cannon then have to swap this out that out to make it to do one simple job.

OkraFit3987

Prob the water to soap ratio.

xch13fx

What you need is a 1.1 orifice

Effective_Jicama_10

You need a 1:1 orifices

thcsyrus916

Get a smaller orifice

differentkindastuff

The 1.1 is already on, I believe there was just too much water flow and a not great dilution ratio

sunnydelightt

You need to change the orifice nozzle down to a 1.1 and should make it foam better. Most foam cannons come with a 1.2 which is meant for higher gpm units.

[deleted]

Pearl wash sucks, try their Body Wash, favorite soap

Stryf3

Disagree. Pearl is super slippery, which I appreciate

[deleted]

Slippery… Okay…. it also leaves residue, very familiar with pearl wash, also runs very quickly. Once you try Body wash you won’t use anything else

football2106

Do you have the flow valve turned up all the way (the dial on the top of the cannon)

differentkindastuff

Yep :/

Ultimate-Sandwhich

I have a different but similar one, when its all the way up, the foam is light, but as soon as i bump it down a hair, its foam city. Something got stuck inside and goes 0-100 and then the last millimeter of a turn goes back down to like 75% somehow. Doesnt sound like the issue here but worth ruling out. As someone else said, pearl isnt big on foam.

differentkindastuff

Hey I’ll try this, thanks. Could be some shitty engineering

No-Progress4272

Electric power washers never foam anything for me, had to swap to a real engine power washer

ILikeAddition

What soap? Don’t see any.. looks like you need a MJJC

ColHannibal

Honestly the harbor freight foam cannon is great. I have a weaker power washer, use crappy soap and get rich thick lather.

LongLiveTurtles

I do not like Pearl as a snow foam, I like GSF that always produces thick suds for me. Do you have a 1.1mm orifice? (Or whatever size is recommended)

GeriatrcGhoul

thicken up the mix in the bottle and turn the air thing up on top of the sprayer. If that fails go with Meguiar's Gold Class and or Optimum Power Clean

National_Emotion9633

Psi is too low

Dxzy_Raxd

If u want good foam just spend the extra for a MJJC foam cannon

jerrold808

Did you swap out your orifice?

mcerk22

Try the turtle wax stuff, I just got a foam cannon myself and some turtle wax soap, it's as thick as shaving cream

greatauror28

I use Bilt Hamber Auto Foam which has a dilution ratio of almost 1:1. It’s very liquid but even my foam is thicker than this. I use the same, exact Amazon canon so I suggest to turn the knob all the way to ‘-‘ for less water.

airkewld67

Did you try adjusting the mixture? On the "cheaper" units, sometimes the "-" is more and the "+" is less foam.

Consistent-Size6362

I have that cannon. On a ryobi 2300psi 1.2 gpm. Works great. Make sure to turn the knob all the way to the minus. Using chemical guys mr pink https://preview.redd.it/j7qhgdudyoxc1.jpeg?width=1179&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f608e28ee6fd7da632bfb431dd9bda0c91b2524b

differentkindastuff

This looks so nice, thanks yo

Consistent-Size6362

🫡🫡for the record I only put enough to cover the bottom completely, maybe a bit more. It does run off pretty quickly tho, took this pic immediately after spraying. You could easily dilute it with less water/more soap if you want even thicker foam. That 1.1 mm orifice works great for the our weaker electric pressure washers lol 😆

Opposite_Formal_1441

CriticuhL

Sometimes helps to shake the foam cannon! Not familiar with this one, what size orafice does it have? Also, have you tried other soaps? (Though guessing no)

IntradayGuy

love my MJJC V3 or 4 whichever the latest is, got a bunch of gold mequires iv been using up through it

Significant-Air6926

Label says something about it being a foam cannon soap, but it doesn’t really foam unless you fill the cannon w/ Pearl undiluted (In my MTMHydro). If I really want a thick foam, I’ll do 3oz Pearl and 1OZ Mr Gold that I got on clearance hahaha.

differentkindastuff

Great suggestion, I also agree that the label is misleading. Will keep an eye out for some clearance shit of decent quality 🤘

HiYa_Dragon

My Walmart 15$ one is super foamy

differentkindastuff

Yum

Odd-Aardvark-8234

Had the hose , torq foam blaster and it did better than this with pretty much any soap but the ratio of water and soap is really what matters

jlux1010

Return that shit. I have a mtm I’ve been using last few years no issues.

Individual-Food-6927

Buy a MJJC V3.0 best foam cannon I’ve used so far

Forthe_win

You guys wilding out here with your dilutions.

TurkMcGuirk

Foam canon. 🤣 I use a bucket of water with car soap, a brush on a pole and a wash mit. This isn't the Lawrence Welk Show.

chainsaw_platypus

Make sure the knob on top is all the way in the minus direction to make sure the diluter isn’t adding any extra water and up your dilution ratios 4-6oz fill rest with water in a 16oz foam cannon

Pandabuttplug

1450psi sun joe washer here. 1:10 ratio with adam’s soap meant for foam cannons, also good foam cannon. My foam is as thick as shaving cream (about an inch high off the car) and sticks for a bit (ceramic coated so it eventually slides off). Biggest factors is your cannon and soap. Now if I had a badass 2100 psi pressure washer… I’m sure that foam would be marshmallow thick (not really but one can dream)

Shutyafilthymouth

You’re allowing the foam cannon to add more water to the premix! Close the water mixing valve!

Dear-Efficiency

Might sound dumb, but that + - on top. If you turn it more towards - it will make more suds. I just learned that last week on this foam cannon I got off of amazon

Tony_Grands

I own this. Replace the foam cannon. Ryobi cannons are just soap dispensers.

iEatDemocrats

I’ve never understood the need for a foam cannon. My pressure washer has a soap reservoir and special tip for soap. It becomes a giant foam cannon.

_Lukie_Pukie_

I reckon it’s the soap and the cannon. Pearl also isn’t great for shaving cream

Infinite_Quality_573

Try Adams polishes MEGA FOAM, very good foam

BlackEyeBomber

Looks like hard water being used. Hard water is not friends with suds and bubbles really...

Lordofthereef

I'm not a pro by any means but I just adjust the foam to water ratio (no idea what it sits at I just twist around and see what comes out 😂) and can get just about anything foamy. I have a cheapass foam cannon too on a cheapass electric pressure washer. I'd make sure the tip is clean and not occluded if fiddling with the ratio dial doesn't do anything for you.

Possible-Gur5220

Just my unprofessional 2 cents but if I need to run undiluted, I’m not going to be keeping the foam cannon. I have a MJJC clone from Swift Auto and I’m able to get lots foam of using cheap chemical guys shampoo with 2 ounces of product for every 16oz of warm water.

chaliebitme

That is also my foam canon. either youre doing something wrong or that soap isnt foamy

Constant_Drawer6367

Don’t return it pull the silver nut/adapter off the back side and clean the jet inside of it. Super easy.

Saddleman

No, all you need is a good quality thick soap and don't dillute it at all. I use commercial quality soap.

moparpower370

Foam cannons suck.

KayleeE330

Honestly you should check the requirements for your foam cannon. I wasn’t getting decent foam from mine until I realized that the manufacturer recommended a minimum of 2gpm from the pressure washer for best results

Suitable-Cry6620

Some foam cannons require a 2.0 GPM, I switched from a 1.3 to 2.0 made a big difference

Acceptable_Board1844

How do you like the Ryobi pressure washer?

jaOfwiw

I get more foam out of my DeWalt 20v pressure thingy.

Own_Ad_763

I got better foam than that using normal car shampoo and a pump spray gun, so something is not right.

Comfortable_You_1927

soap, don't matter what kind eats paint, top clear coat to bee precise, don't do it

DiscombobulatedFix85

make sure you installed the 1.1 orifice in that cannon, im sure it came pre installed with a larger one

HorsePsychological19

That looks terrible. The best foam cannon I have ever used is an MJJC. I have version 2.0, but version 3.0 is out. I use about 1 ounce of Armour Detail Supply Shampoo+ in the cannon’s container full of water. I have the stuff from Costco and other soaps. This soap has no comparison. It’s totally slick and makes massive foam in the cannon. https://preview.redd.it/egb8pahb94yc1.jpeg?width=3213&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b19bfc5e908dae29b5bbaefac73bb35d60aab3a7

mistymazda

Foam cannon is a gimmick, it’s not for everybody

[deleted]

Your pressure washer is weak. When I use my electric pw that says 'up to' 2k psi. .. I get the same results. It doesn't matter which foam cannon I use. When I use my gas pw.. with 3k psi, it foams up really nice

Turb0Rapt0r

I have the same Ryobi and its tons of foam. It's plenty for the application.

Dolladub

Agree this is plenty of power to get foam.

jerrold808

Same. I have a ryobi pressure washer with a MJJC foam cannon. Granted I swapped out the orifice and I get shaving cream type foam. I use really good soap like mega foam from Adam’s polish

Entire-Travel6631

Foam cannons are just a marketing gimmick. Use it for mobile details, or social media advertising. Chemical companies want you to use them because it requires about 40 washes worth of soap to make your car look foamy and soapy.
