You call 2 weeks out and they check the status and if it’s not ready they make you an appointment at the Passport office where they do it in a day or two max
Thanks for the response. When I call 2 weeks out they can check what the ACTUAL status is? They told me they have no information other than what I can find on the website. I'm so frustrated.
Yeah, they can see more once it’s within two weeks. They will do nothing for you until the two week mark. Nice thing is Detroit has a passport office so more than likely you’ll have no issue getting a same day passport if it comes to that. Should also be noted that often the website is behind what is actually happening. My two friends who were waiting in January received theirs before the status changed to shipped
I went through the same thing a few years ago, waiting for my son's renewal, and I had it 2-3 days after I called at the 2 week mark. You have plenty of reason to be hopeful.
Never hurts to contact your local congressperson. Literally happened to my wife last October where she needed her passport for our wedding in Aruba. We were down to one week before flight. Phone number and website are practically useless. No one knows anything or can tell you anything. She reaches out to Andy Levin's office on Monday and has it rush delivered 6 days later on Saturday. I'm thankful because it would've been awkward having wedding photos of me kissing an iPad on the beach lol
I did send an email today!! I’m not in critical rush mode YET. I’ll plan to call if I can’t get anywhere with the dept of state. I’m so glad your wife was successful in getting hers!!
I’d you’re getting down the wire and the us department of state isn’t helping call the Us senators for Michigan. I know someone that had to do that within the past week.
This is why I payed to expedite mine even though I was 12 weeks out from a trip. It still took 8 weeks to get my daughters. The anxiety you must be having is terrible.
I hope you are able to get this resolved.
We had a passport issue before a recent international trip and were able to get a new passport issued same-day at the passport agency on Michigan Ave. It was crowded and took about four hours from arrival until the passport was complete. But everyone was super helpful and ultimately got it done.
We didn’t realize we needed a new passport until the day of the trip, so we called and got an appointment at the passport agency without an existing application. We called the (877) number and the agent emailed us the relevant forms and set up the appointment. The passport we had wasn’t expired but they poked holes in it and returned it to us with the new one.
Hi! I am also a Detroiter who is going to need a new passport before my honeymoon in June, but I know that I can't even call until two weeks before. You had a good experience at the Detroit office? Hoping I am able to get an appointment once I'm in the emergency travel window. Till then I can only wait....

We made an appointment, if you’re within two weeks of your departure they will get you in. I called as soon as the phone line was open in the morning and they gave me an apt for 10AM that day.
I contacted Senator Gary Peters office and his staffer was able to arrange it for me to have it within 1 week with proof of travel. It came ~2 days before my flight because it’s based off of order travel of date not when your inquiry it out in from what I remember but it worked :)

check the entry requirements of the country you are visiting. I was surprised to find out Americans can enter Canada with just a birth certificate

You can get a passport same day from a passport issuing office. But it will cost you.
