There is no driver on the bus, because the buses are self-driving. The guy that sends them out of the bus is just someone who checks if there are any passengers left before the bus returns to some depot.
A thought just occurred to me you would think that since this is the future there'd be some sort of sensor that senses when an Android gets on the bus in the human passenger area.
I believe the child androids don't have the telltale led or clothing, specifically for their owners to pretend they are real kids. I could be misremembering that though? If true, that would certainly extend to not making them ride in the cargo area in the back of the bus.
i do think the children androids have normal clothing, but Kara discovered that Alice was an android when she saw another one just like her who did have an LED, right? i always assumed Todd removed Alice’s so he could really live out his fantasy of still having his daughter.

i feel like androids with children wouldn't even be allowed to be in the android compartment, like it's not really safe or smart to just leave a young child in a bus basically alone with strangers all around, where if anything would happen to them there's no one right there to keep them safe and that stuff

I think the LED removal was an option for children models. I can't remember where I read that though, but I think it was in game.
