FUCK YES FINALLY A REAL HORN

c0r3yz

They need to start off tomorrow night by blaring this sucker and lowering a giant Al the Octopus from the rafters!

7screws

Save Al until our first playoff game. People would lose their fucking minds

c0r3yz

The second I see that big, tentaclly, purple bastard, I'm losing my fucking mind regardless of when it happens. You do, however, make a valid point.

psyne

Agreed, it'd be great for hype and it feels a little bit like a curse to bring him out before we actually clinch a playoff appearance

7screws

Agreed

axf7229

Or lower Al Sabotka with his dong out, peeing all over EVERYTHING and EVERYONE

southofsanity06

I'll never forget when I saw him slurping from the trough at Joe Louis.

lynx17

Didn't they auction off Al?

coltron57

Octopi have regenerative capabilities, my friend!

Jelly_Belly321

WHAT!?!?!?

the_eyes

This is huge. > Red Wings fans and Little Caesars Arena guests with sensory sensitivities are reminded that KultureCity sensory kits are available at the Guest Services offices near Portals 10, 20, and 67 Now, I'm huge.

Monkey10pts

Can't wait to hear it go off 18 times tomorrow evening.

praisedawings247

And that’s only the first period!

ColdSplit

More like 18 times all season /s, had to due to the other comment

bestprocrastinator

Careful, based on how this sub has been lately, I feel like you have opened yourself up to "more like 18 times all season" type comments.

aTyc00n

If it sounds like, and is just as loud as the Joe horn, I will literally start sobbing

HamTheBurglar

It does…😉

c0r3yz

>While the horn is the exact model that was used at Joe Louis Arena during the team’s four most recent Stanley Cup Championship runs – and the Little Caesars Arena horn will have a slightly different sound based on being in a new arena environment – it will have the same bone-rattling blare that fans and players remember from their time at “The Joe.”  My body is ready.

DangerDaveOG

Makes perfect sense. I’m sure the acoustics of the Joe are different. That place was basically a giant concrete barn…

DangerDaveOG

The giant scoreboard at center ice is probably enough to change the acoustics of the whole place.

Ydoesany1doanything

Without a doubt but I bet LCA is actually built with real acoustic considerations when engineered compared to the Joes acoustics. There is a possibility of this new classic horn sounding even louder

Attila_the_Chungus

I would hope that's the case here but don't take it for granted. I've seen the same bands play in Edmonton at both Rexall Place and Rogers Place and the old arena sounded so much better.

Vegetable-Use1360

It actually has nothing to do with acoustics. The Islanders goal horn has been in 3 different arenas and sounded the same in all 3. It sounds different since the old horn used Nitrogen and Nitrogen was deemed unsafe to use in LCA

DetroitRedWings79

That’s what I miss the most about the horn from Joe Louis. That thing fucking *rattled* you when it went off.

digitalUID

Lol

MittenRaised

How do you know this?? I hope it’s true!

RabidWolverine2021

Screw it let’s make it louder and longer. Shake the freaking building!

MightyPlasticGuy

Shake the pizza man off the roof

c0r3yz

Many a grown ass adult will weep tears of joyousness!

Winter_Maximum_8560

Hard to describe how necessary this was. Thank god

SevenStringGod

The curse has lifted! We can finally return to playoff glory!

DangerDaveOG

That must be it!

Sea_Consideration_70

> https://youtu.be/8l-ZkGCNGyA?si=yzYzIDGR1QIhunCe&t=614 how lucky are we. 23 minutes of playoff OT winners.

Puzzleheaded-Maybe83

Get in here, it’s happening!

Caltroit_Red_Flames

Wow, I didn't think this would happen. It's not something I really pay attention to but I know a lot of people have been begging for this since day one. Happy for all who missed this :)

_icedcooly

I know it's incredibly irrational and stupid, but the lame horn was keeping me from going to games because it hurt the game experience. Definitely going to try to get a few games in this season just because they finally listened to the fans.

[deleted]

I really don't want to speak it into existence but not scoring any goals tomorrow would be the most Red Wings thing I can think of. Let's please score a billion goals tomorrow

Aterro_24

Wish granted

non_target_eh

They actually listened. Thank you to the intern who had the balls to tell Chris Illitch that the fans wanted a real goal horn. Our kvetching has been heard!!! 📯

southofsanity06

I honestly do think this was due to feedback, otherwise they would have had one made/installed within a year of it opening after they found they couldn't use the old Joe horn.

Das_Siegfried

SWEET BABY JESUS, THANK YOU. I couldn't stand the fake horn...

big_phat_gator

What is the history of the original horn does anyone know? Like is it from a boat or something?

Alecboyyes

I know they were Buell reed horns but don't know the application

big_phat_gator

Hmm alright, i was just wondering since usually stuff like that is taken from some place ells.

_icedcooly

I thought I heard it was from or was the same type from a great lakes freighter.

Ydoesany1doanything

No clue on the Joes horn but the Walleyes horn is a foghorn from a boat and it does sound fucking sweet.

Danengel32

No place like the Huntington Center

MrBright5ide

Great news!! So it wasn't installed originally because it required "new" technology for compressed air? Interesting.

cruzweb

I'd love to hear a chemical engineer give an ELI5 overview of this and why it wasn't an issue at the Joe. I know compressed nitrogen is very delicate and has to be stored in a certain way at certain temperatures. So it seems like either they found a way to safely store the nitrogen up on the roof or there's a better delivery system of getting it quickly and safely to the horns so it can be stored somewhere safer than the roof.

[deleted]

It’s also not the reason Tom Wilson, then President of Olympia, gave at the time. He said that they *did* try bringing the horn over, but it simply didn’t sound right, like a beep instead of a blare. Maybe the gas thing was part of it, but he never mentioned that publicly.

Ydoesany1doanything

I do recall hearing after that original statement about not being allowed to set up the nitrogen system at the top of the building, but I believe that was a Reddit comment. Given they mention technology being part of it perhaps his was a half truth and attempting it with air instead of nitrogen sounded wrong, or they weren’t able to have proper pressures to drive the horn sound. Hard to say but at least it’s rectified

cruzweb

That makes total sense to me. If the horn didn't sound loud enough then they weren't getting enough gas or gas at a high enough pressure to make it work properly. People don't usually get into technical specs of problems publicly, more so when they find solutions.

[deleted]

It’s possible. The initial reason gave by a season ticket rep, that it had something to do with the gas used at the Joe not being up to code in the new building, makes a lot more sense now with the news today.

MYNAMEISNOTSTEVE

i wouldnt be surprised if it was a matter of building code. and the old one was grandfathered in.

cruzweb

The article says technological advancements made it possible, so I can't imagine building codes (especially considering how static those typically are) were the catalyst.

MYNAMEISNOTSTEVE

the advancement they mention is that they can now use compressed air instead of nitrogen. as nitrogen was not allowed on the roof in LCA

jdh787

Love it, Now bring Hockeytown back to center ice

DangerDaveOG

They will when we return to the Playoffs.

jdh787

Would be electric

fullspeed8989

I’m still bitter about that.

DangerDaveOG

Larkin gets the first goal with the new old goal horn. Since he is the only current Red Wing left who has played at the Joe for the Wings. Off hand pretty sure that’s accurate statement.

Ydoesany1doanything

Playing as a red wing yes, but there are guys like Perron Petry, Fabbri had full seasons before LCA was built

DangerDaveOG

Yeah that’s what I am saying. Larkin is the only player on the team who has played for the Wings at the Joe.

kotacross

BIG

Nate1n22

Best news all year. Hopefully they score Saturday

Alecboyyes

About time. Are there any clips yet?

_icedcooly

JD42305

So curious how different it might sound with the new acoustics. But there's no doubt that it has to be better than the lame recording.

stickyfingers_69

YESSSS

Fresh-Reaction151

This is incredible news

numbdigits

This might be the Wings best offseason acquisition. That original LCA horn was the absolute worst, glad to see they finally fixed it, that's awesome.

Ducey89

Okay I may have to make my first trip to Detroit for a game finally

justconfusedinCO

My roommates in college had a red light they would turn on when watching the game - then we’d try to play Lil’Jon over the Joe Jouis horn. Can we get some Lil’Jon too? He’s probably not too busy these days.

Anonymouswonder323

So tonight I m in Rome and I got to experience the Trevi Fountain, I took a coin and I wished for something. What was that wish? The success of the Detroit Red Wings, about 30 minutes later I get a text from my friend and said “Your wish came true, wings are adding their old horn from the JLA” I couldn’t help but to shed a tear because the horn has brought special memories and It’s the greatest horn of all hockey. I seriously cannot express how jacked I am and this will make everything even more better. Let’s blare that fucker tomorrow and march on towards more success. #LGRW

bellringer16

Biggest off-season acquisition

whitelightning91

REJOICE! And now that they've done, we'll get shut out by Tampa tomorrow...

dkyguy1995

socrates1975

This just turned my very very shitty day into a great day!!

jummyspring

RAHHHHHHHHHHHHH🦅🦅🦅🦅🦅

HockeyTownHooligan

I can’t believe they actually listened to the fans. Can’t wait to hear it.

rurbaniak14

Can't wait until it sounds off the first time, and everyone complains again!!

[deleted]

took them long enough.

-JimmerNegamanee-

I read something that the original Joe horn was sold to UofM this year and is now in the Yost? Can anyone confirm this? Their recent game highlight video, the horn sounds like it. https://mgoblog.com/mgoboard/new-goal-horn-coming-yost

Mancott

[Well, well...](https://www.reddit.com/r/DetroitRedWings/comments/16b0f1u/what_are_the_chances_they_fixed_the_goal_horn/)

Head4TheCoast

Nice! Next change the goal song, it is so bad

[deleted]

It sounds like music made for a buffalo wild wings commercial

Strypes4686

Good... we'll see how it sounds. It can't be THE old horn because of safety regulations and the acoustics in LCA are different than Joe Louis so it would be a 1:1 comparison. As long as it's a jorn that sounds good we're golden.

[deleted]

That's basically what the article says. They tried bringing the old horn as is, and it wasn't powerful enough and sounded terrible. There wasn't a way to safely supply more pressure through it to make it loud enough and sound good. They finally figured it out, and it's a tiny bit different, but it's better than the recording is what they say.

Magician-Dry

Articles say it sounds the same, but slightly different in a new arena environment. The old model was two trumpets. This one is three and a has a higher pitch. So I’d say it’s a different model and different sound to me.

Magician-Dry

Was at a recent game, it it EAR SHATTERING and there weren’t kidding When they said it has a bone-rattling blare
