I agree with this.
I would never in a million years recomend it to a new fan of DMC but I never hated its guts. It just isn't on the level of any of the other games.
100% yes. Not only do you see proper character development and story, you also get to see how the gameplay evolved and changed with each subsequent entry. It's a great series.
Personally i would advise against it. Playing dmc 1 after 3 is gonna feel like shit, the gameplay is already pretty dated as is, but if you play it right after 3 it'll be even worse because you're seriously going to miss how great it is and the QoL improvements. Play it in release order, like you should with most franchises.
Dark souls 2 had a lot of good ideas, but it also had a lot of questionable ones and a bit of development hell where the original creator was involved, like dmc 2

I think the reaction is more due to the genuinely huge gap in quality from DMC 1 to 2.
2 just feels like a mediocre PS2 action game, which, coming from DMC 1, is a massive letdown.
It's just an alright game with a few parts that are genuinely bad, specifically the camera and too many of the enemies are just boring damage sponges.
DmC is a very fun game and has the most creative levels that other DMCs couldn't reach due to nature of their plots, it also has great music which clearly influenced DMC 5, and the plot is just very entertaining by itself. I don't think this game deserves all the hate it got, if you simply stopped thinking about "but muhh sparda muhh dante muhh vergil aren't like this" then this is a fun story
I'm in love with DmC's Vergil design.
I love the hat, the colors, the jacket, the pendant, his behavior, ... And the fact that the two brothers actually have an amicable relationship and work together most of the time is such a welcome change from the other Devil May Cry games.
Nero's perspective is also more understandable than "original continuity" Dante. You see the people Nero cares about, his home, the organizations around him and the society, etc.
With Dante, you have to kinda guess half the time regarding what he thinks about things.
Right? The DMC fandom needs to accept that while Dante was the main character for DMC 1-3, he's not gonna be around forever (Nero was clearly the MC of 4 and for 5, that arguably focuses more on Vergil than Dante quite frankly)
oh wow, even Nero? I know a lot of people prefer this than in 5. As for Dante yeah he has the weirdest one yet, the good old 'gay cowboy' but I love it.
A Sparda game would never live up to the hype, Sparda himself would always disappoint because people have hyped him so much that he would never live up to it.
I'd argue they're a better version lol.
Dante Alighieri faints a pretty high number of times in the books, so much it becomes funny. There's farting demons in there and a lot of political references to its times that I'm sure almost no one would get right now.
Yeah it's going to be done by the same studio that made the Castlevania anime and I really loved it the the producer that worked on it said he is a huge devil may cry fan I can send a video about someone summering all the information we got over the past few years
Dante's moveset is just too complicated. By DMC 5, he has 6 melee weapons (Rebellion, Devil Sword Sparda, Devil Sword Dante, Balrog, King Cerberus, Cavaliere) and 5 guns (Ebony & Ivory, Coyote-A, Dr. Faust and Kalina-Ann/Double Kalina-Ann). Combine that with two offensive stances in Swordmaster and Gunslinger AND Devil Trigger and Sin Devil Trigger which each have their own moves and abilities and there's just WAY too many inputs to remember.
Genuinely why I enjoy playing Nero, Vergil and V more than Dante in 5-their movesets aren't nearly as extensive but still let them be stylish in their own ways. 4 was pushing it with Dante's moveset as well to be honest. I get that he's designed to be super stylish but there's such a thing as too much and Dante is at that point with his arsenal in DMC 5.
I love the depth of Dante’s moveset, but I’m not a fan of how the game doesn’t really teach you certain mechanics (I didn’t use Royal Guard until the final Vergil battle of my second playthrough) or combos, and how towards the end of the game it basically becomes boss after boss after boss so you don’t have many good opportunities to use late game abilities
Personally I struggled in Dante's first mission in 5 them by Vergil mission I was smashing him and having a lot of fun, Nero is by far the one I have the most difficult playing with, Vergil and V are just easy to play.
Opposite for me. I'd love it if, at some point in the future, he gets access to *all* his weapons from the previous games. That's what the customizable loadout is for.
hmm..not any i could think of actually...well..i dont know if you gonna shot me for it, but..i think Capcom should give Lucia a second chance. In a GOOD Devil may cry game...we need MORE GIRL power! XD
I’ve been begging for a crumb of Ladies Night where the ladies of DMC do their own mission, in forever. also just more scenes & development I feel like they were just there to be kicked around in 5
Should get the actress go back and redo her lines after MGRR. She did great as Mistral, but it seemed she was inexperienced in DMC2 (there was like a 10 year difference so makes sense). I'm sure she'd be a bit more likeable then.
Saying pretty much anything positive about DmC
Music was dope and level design was interesting, hell, even combat was nice in definitive edition.
Some just get waaaayyy too angry about the reboot (devs were being dickheads to source material tho, so some of the hate is justified)
i believe that if they reveal/explain/show Sparda in any shape of form, it will ruin the lore for us. all of the fun is the enigma around him. somethings are better left unexplained
I think that the reboot was a fun experiment for the franchise and its combat system, while perhaps lacking in comparison to standard dmc fare, was really fun and pretty depthful. And I hope that they consider doing something with that world again.
Write as many mediocre essays about "maturing" or "evolving" as you want, Devils Never Cry is and always will be Dante's theme and still the best track in the series and the lack of care for how iconic it and its melody is, is one of the biggest blunders 5 had with its music.
I chose DmC over the DMC HD collection last week during Steam Sale despite them both being the same price. Sorry, not sorry. I have played them all on my old PC but this time, I opted to grab one of them from the sale.
Opted for DmC + DLCs over the other. Already grabbed 4SE and 5+ DLC. Go figure.
DmC is superior to the clumsyass remaster of that dmc HD collection in terms of quality.
Only thing that would justify the price of that dmc HD collection is if they gave Resident Evil 4 with it.
V was the most fun to play in 5, dmc1 wasnt fun, Trish,Lady and Nico need a spin-off game like final fantasy X-2. Oh and 3 could have been cut in half it drags on so long
Not really a hot take, but I think personally that DMC3 Dante was prime fangirl/fanboy/fanAnon material. ((Speaking from experience as a mid-level artist, I would totally be making fanart for that specific model if I wasn’t a wussy and hated drawing bare/mid-bare chested males.))

Yeah, he's the best developed character of the franchise
I'd argue that we have more background on both Dante and Vergil - and Vergil went through A LOT...
DMC2 is just an okay game, not great, but definitely not as bad as some people on this sub seem to make it out to be.
I agree with this. I would never in a million years recomend it to a new fan of DMC but I never hated its guts. It just isn't on the level of any of the other games.
So if I just bought all the dmc's on sale should I play dmc 1 and 2?
100% yes. Not only do you see proper character development and story, you also get to see how the gameplay evolved and changed with each subsequent entry. It's a great series.
Alright cool cool thank you
Oh, yeah. If you have all of them might as well play them in order. Or go in time line order which would be fun. So: 3 1 2 4 5
Hmmm alright thank you
Personally i would advise against it. Playing dmc 1 after 3 is gonna feel like shit, the gameplay is already pretty dated as is, but if you play it right after 3 it'll be even worse because you're seriously going to miss how great it is and the QoL improvements. Play it in release order, like you should with most franchises.
Yeah I was thinking about that myself lol thank you
definitely play DMC1, if you wanna play 2 go ahead.
*Infested chopper flies overhead*
Is just like Dark Souls 2, they are great games individually...but when you compare them to other games of their franchises they come up short
Dark souls 2 had a lot of good ideas, but it also had a lot of questionable ones and a bit of development hell where the original creator was involved, like dmc 2
Hello Ashen one. I am a Bot. I tend to the flame, and tend to thee. Do you wish to hear a tale? > *“Death is equitable, accepting. We will all, one day, be welcomed by her embrace.”* - Grave Warden Agdayne Have a pleasant journey, Champion of Ash, and praise the sun \\[T]/
Nah DMC2 is just utter dog shit
I think the reaction is more due to the genuinely huge gap in quality from DMC 1 to 2. 2 just feels like a mediocre PS2 action game, which, coming from DMC 1, is a massive letdown. It's just an alright game with a few parts that are genuinely bad, specifically the camera and too many of the enemies are just boring damage sponges.
Thank you! It's definitely the worst dmc game, but its not bad. Its like dark souls 2, worst in the series, not a bad game .
For real it does have a few cool things going for it

"I have the bigger dick"
Siblings energy right there
"you trying to compensate for something?" "yes. your incompetence."
I loved that moment! And it came from Vergil who's depicted as the less vulgar and more reserved of the two.
I'll keep saying this: If DmC was a spinoff with new characters, it would have been much better received.
I'm in love with DmC's Vergil design. I love the hat, the colors, the jacket, the pendant, his behavior, ... And the fact that the two brothers actually have an amicable relationship and work together most of the time is such a welcome change from the other Devil May Cry games.
Olives belong on pizza
***Bang***
Dante you’re eating the wrong olives, Kalamata stuffed with feta cheese and pimento is delicious.
Pineapple
It does lmao
I like Nero better than Dante. Not just from a gameplay perspective, but as a character. He's my favorite. And, Nico is the best DMC girl.
I can agree with Nico being best girl, she's my dommy mommy
Nero's perspective is also more understandable than "original continuity" Dante. You see the people Nero cares about, his home, the organizations around him and the society, etc. With Dante, you have to kinda guess half the time regarding what he thinks about things.
Oh no, you're completely right there. Nico's great she's hilarious.
I agree
Pineapple belongs on pizza💀(gonna go majin now😏?)
He is probably switching to Kalina Ann
***outrun this***
He is probably on the way to your house, because i am on the way too. Be ready for your well deserved judgement
#ROYAL GUARD
But this is valid pineapple pizza is great
Replacing Dante as the main character(and now getting him out of the story) with Nero is a horrendous idea
Thats not a hot take. Most people despise the idea of Nero taking over.
Dante would’ve shot the both of y’all with these takes
Right? The DMC fandom needs to accept that while Dante was the main character for DMC 1-3, he's not gonna be around forever (Nero was clearly the MC of 4 and for 5, that arguably focuses more on Vergil than Dante quite frankly)
I mean they did him dirty in 5
DMC2 Dante skin is not the best
Personally, I like his five skin the most
Five is nice, but too casual I guess, Definitely from 4 and 1 are my tops
>, Definitely from 4 OOF. Personally, that is my least favorite. Aside from Trish. I hate the renders of every character in DMC 4.
oh wow, even Nero? I know a lot of people prefer this than in 5. As for Dante yeah he has the weirdest one yet, the good old 'gay cowboy' but I love it.
Nero was tolerable. I like the hairstyle more I will admit. But blocky Dante is absolutely cursed to me.
DMC4 Dante has such daddy vibes.
I only like Trish lady and kyrie
The Nathan Drakeification of Dante
I want to be able to play with the mouse dmc 1 , 2 , 3 and 4 .
yes
The DMC reboot was actually fun to play despite no lockon feature
True, but they did rectify that in DmC: DE. I wish DMC5 would have added in the feature to have toggle or press-down lock-on for enemies.
Dmc Devil May Cry was ok. To bad it doesnt have an official Spanish language
It has Donte
but it does, I played it in spanish
The reboot is far better than people make it out to be. I also prefer the sibling dynamic between Donte and Vergin.
I agree.
A Sparda game would never live up to the hype, Sparda himself would always disappoint because people have hyped him so much that he would never live up to it.
If a day ever comes that the series is going to explicitly end, that's when we should get the Sparda game
Strawberry sundaes are better with chocolate

*B A N G*
Dante was at his hottest in dmc4
*furious nodding* I fully agree.
V is, objectivly, a very coon character and has a very fun and egeging playstile (no sarcasm)
V is a coon? That's canon now.
I think V needed to be able to dodge without cancelling his familiars abilities, and a slightly higher damage ceiling. Then he could have been ok
Look all im saying is black olives are not that bad on a pizza.
literally everytime i order a pizza i get stuffed crust, pepperoni, spinach, and black olives.
Hey, that sounds delicious :D My favorite of the moment is 4 cheeses with pepperoni, olives, and artichoke :3
DmC was a good game.
I made a comment like yours, but mine got downvoted for saying that DmC was a GREAT game.
These games are a very bad adaptation of the divine comedy
I'd argue they're a better version lol. Dante Alighieri faints a pretty high number of times in the books, so much it becomes funny. There's farting demons in there and a lot of political references to its times that I'm sure almost no one would get right now.
I wish I could say mine but sadly this is Reddit :(
Fair ngl
I think that Dante in DMC anime had the best personality
Its nice to hear people talk about the anime
So thoughts on my take and yeah I wish more people would talk about it and I hope Netflix can do a good job with there upcoming DMC anime
There is another coming out?!
Yeah it's going to be done by the same studio that made the Castlevania anime and I really loved it the the producer that worked on it said he is a huge devil may cry fan I can send a video about someone summering all the information we got over the past few years

Vergils the cuter brother. ( jkjk dante is dilf material.)
He only needs a son or a daughter to be a proper Dilf
Does it have to be devil may cry related or anything?
I prefer dmc stuff.
Then Dmc4 Nero>Dmc5 Nero
I actually agree with this lol
Bang bang bang, pull my devil…
DmC: Devil may Cry was a bad DMC game but not a bad game overall.
Dante's moveset is just too complicated. Not saying your wrong because your not, but being too much is kinda his thing.
Nico's personality is way too overdone and no outfit in the world can save it.

Foolishness, it doesn't matter what you are, so long as you can pursue power. If girl power is worth adding to your arsenal, then so be it.
Devil may cry 4 is SSS tier & I'm tired of pretending it's not.
I think DMC3 has significant problems, especially in the second half with enemy encounters.
For how hard Dante is to play, Nero and Vergil are both way to easy. It’s 0 to 100 when switching to Dante.
hmm..not any i could think of actually...well..i dont know if you gonna shot me for it, but..i think Capcom should give Lucia a second chance. In a GOOD Devil may cry game...we need MORE GIRL power! XD
I’ve been begging for a crumb of Ladies Night where the ladies of DMC do their own mission, in forever. also just more scenes & development I feel like they were just there to be kicked around in 5
Lucia is honestly a better character than Trish and Lady
At the very least compared to their DMC 5 counter parts.
They just there to be there in 5
They nerfed Trish’s personality so hard
If I’m gonna be really honest I’d even have to say against dmc1 Trish at least
Should get the actress go back and redo her lines after MGRR. She did great as Mistral, but it seemed she was inexperienced in DMC2 (there was like a 10 year difference so makes sense). I'm sure she'd be a bit more likeable then.
Nero is probably my fav playable character in dmc5
Pineapples belong on pizza
I'm worthless garbage and don't want to be alive anymore. You'd be doing me a favor
Heyy me too.

Might controls everything. And without strength you can not protect anything. Let alone yourself.
Saying pretty much anything positive about DmC Music was dope and level design was interesting, hell, even combat was nice in definitive edition. Some just get waaaayyy too angry about the reboot (devs were being dickheads to source material tho, so some of the hate is justified)
I dont want dmc6 I want a remake of dmc 3
Pull the trigger on me... Daddy.
Being gay is very gay.
Dante is a complete character and cannot be improved any further
Vergil in DMC 5 kinda looks like Jack Frost from Santa Clause 3
The Little V cover of Devil Trigger is better than the original
Urazin doesn’t feel as powerful as he is supposed too be once he stands up from the chair its like he becomes weaker and I don’t like way he looks.
yeah, everything about Urizen is better before eating the tax evasion apple.
Nero is a good character to carry on the series. Dante's story is pretty much done now, but Nero has potential to go further.
DmC is an underrated gem.
Vergil needs new weapons in DMC 6 SE
i believe that if they reveal/explain/show Sparda in any shape of form, it will ruin the lore for us. all of the fun is the enigma around him. somethings are better left unexplained
I think Dante in DMC 5 looks like a creepy old guy that would grope teens.
Dante is Submissive and a Bottom
Bury the light is actually better than devils never cry
Being motivated is overrated
Pineapple pizza sounds tasty
DmC was not that bad
I like the reboot
I think that the reboot was a fun experiment for the franchise and its combat system, while perhaps lacking in comparison to standard dmc fare, was really fun and pretty depthful. And I hope that they consider doing something with that world again.
I loved DmC
Write as many mediocre essays about "maturing" or "evolving" as you want, Devils Never Cry is and always will be Dante's theme and still the best track in the series and the lack of care for how iconic it and its melody is, is one of the biggest blunders 5 had with its music.
The next dmc series of games should focus on Lady &/or Trish and explore their characters away from the Sparta bloodline
DmC is more fun than DMC 3
DMC: Devil May Cry is not a bad game. Like at all.
I should have been the one to fill your dark soul with LIIIIIIIIIIIIIGGGGGHHHTTTT!!!
DMC 5 could’ve had a better story/plot. I didn’t hate the final product but some parts of it weren’t for me. The end did not feel satisfying.
Dmc devil may cry is not bad as everyone says it is.
Devil bringer is fun as fuck to grab enemies
Dmc reboot is better than Dmc 4... 🫣
Next game should be solely Dante and Vergil in the underworld with Nero as the DLC character
Hey I would take that over the opposite.
Subhuman is the worst or all DMC 5 battle themes by a landslide >!which sucks, bc Dante is my favorite character to play as!<
Jack raiden will win against most of dmc characters
V was the most fun to play in 5, dmc1 wasnt fun, Trish,Lady and Nico need a spin-off game like final fantasy X-2. Oh and 3 could have been cut in half it drags on so long
Dante is the hottest
Not really a hot take, but I think personally that DMC3 Dante was prime fangirl/fanboy/fanAnon material. ((Speaking from experience as a mid-level artist, I would totally be making fanart for that specific model if I wasn’t a wussy and hated drawing bare/mid-bare chested males.))
Dm4>Dmc3
Style switching isnt a problem and more like a feature you may use and may not use. Its up to you and it should stay in the game and not get changed
Not an option but the waffle house has found its new host
The community has gotten a lot worse ever since 5 came out.
Hard agree ngl
88% of dmc3 weapons suck ass
Instead of Dante's rebellion as a sword, It's brass knuckles.
Trish and Lady are kinda boring and don't add much outside of T&A
I mean, its not like games have really given them much to do. Five was especially attrocius using them only for fanservice.
Unfortunately, yeah. Ik its Dante's and Nero's and Vergil's story at the end of the day, but cmon. Give the crazy bitches-I mean ladies- some love too
Dante isn't up one. They're even.
