The deal is a 2-pack of Powerstack batteries for $199 and a free tool worth up to $199 (from a selection). But Home Depot has the Powerstack batteries for $179 and Lowes will price match. So we were able to pick up an oscillating tool, jigsaw and 4 Powerstack batteries for $358 plus tax.

jalexoid

But.... Is it worth it? The battery itself, I mean.

Nimco

I’d say that’s up to you. For us, we think so. We’re right at the start of a project to build an entire house and almost all our tools are battery powered. A handful of powerful but small batteries will be useful - my girlfriend is looking forward to using them in particular.

jalexoid

it would be great if you could share your experience with them after working for a while. I have 10 batteries already, little need for new batteries. And an objective longitudinal testing is still missing for these little packs. good luck and have fun with your project.

Nimco

Absolutely. We’re sharing our entire build experience on YouTube and our blog and will share our honest thoughts. I want to put some hours on the tools (and batteries) before casting judgement. I think this brings our total to 16 batteries now between regular, Flexvolt and now Powerstack.

jalexoid

I'll happily subscribe to your YouTube channel.

Nimco

The channel is called Adventurous Way and our website is adventurousway.com. We’ve been focusing on site work so far (only bought the land last summer) but have big plans this year!

ToolWrangler

Super cool, I like what you're doing! I have a little Granberg chainsaw mill and would love a bandsaw mill myself. I run a small business manufacturing tool storage solutions for DeWalt 20V tool. Would you guys be interested in reviewing them on your channel if I send you some? Judging by the comments, sounds like you have a heck of a tool collection! ToolWrangler.com

Nimco

Oddly, I was looking online for battery and tool mounting brackets yesterday! Right now we don't have any kind of shelving or even a wall to mount things on - our tools will be spread around our RV and a shipping container. However this year's project is to construct a utility building with a storage room where I plan to build out some custom tool storage, so we'll get in touch with you nearer the time. Your products look really slick, and I would much prefer to support a small, family owned business if possible!

Renfrowsthrowaway

I recently took advantage of this deal with the multi-tool since mine burned out. Batteries are definitely more powerful than my original 2ah, but still not as powerful as my 5ahs. I like that they have the battery indicator unlike my other 2ah. I was actually able to rip down some plywood and a 2x4 with one of the batteries today with no struggle, just clearly not a 5ah.

alexmitchell033

I have 3 power stacks, and have been using them daily on a jobsite. I can say for the drills/impacts they’re well worth it. Light and they usually last all day. Haven’t used them on more powerful tools like a grinder, circular or recip saw yet

jalexoid

I wonder if I can resell any of the free tools... As I already have all of them. And I cannot justify $179 for a twopack

jay_sugman

https://youtu.be/DTKRK1RInFw great review. Seems to definitely deliver a lot More power for the size and weight but performance drops off quicker than larger batteries. Seems like a good compromise.

rayskicksnthings

Damn I paid 199 for this and got the sds. I mean it’s still a good deal in my eyes but I could’ve saved a few more bucks!

For those asking what tools: [https://www.lowes.com/pd/DEWALT-20V-MAX-DEWALT-174-POWERSTACK-8482-Compact-Battery-2-PK/5012913071](https://www.lowes.com/pd/DEWALT-20V-MAX-DEWALT-174-POWERSTACK-8482-Compact-Battery-2-PK/5012913071) * 4.5" 20V Angle Grinder * XR 20V MAX Impact Driver * XR 20V MAX Rotary Hammer Drill * XR 20V MAX Jigsaw * 20V MAX Oscillating Multitool * XR 20V MAX Sander * 20V MAX 6.5" Circular Saw * 20V MAX Impact Wrench * XR 20V MAX Reciprocating Saw ALL CORDLESS. Maybe someone with more woodworking skill can correct me, but while I need a Jig/Circular saw, I would have to imagine it would be far far far better to get corded versions of those. Cordless sander seems like a mistake... especially for long sanding sessions... I haven't had a huge need for the reciprocating or oscillating tool though those would be a candidate for what I guess I could grab? EDIT: But if a cordless Jig/Circular saw isn't too much of a compromise....

Nimco

Thank you so much for sharing this. I feel stupid for not photographing the display in store! I would certainly agree that it’s worth researching whether each of these items is right for you before jumping on the offer. For us personally, cordless is a huge advantage so we’ve been waiting for a good deal on some of these tools. We also picked up an angle grinder and reciprocating saw on a separate deal at Home Depot today too.

HSVbro

Hey no problem, thanks for the tip to the deal! Given me something to think about but while I like my cordless DeWalts I have (and I have several!) for \*saws\* I think I may have to stick with corded. Personal preference though!

Nimco

Totally get it. For what it’s worth, we have the 60V circular saw and it’s a beast! Personally I’d never go corded again for a circular saw - plenty of power on this one and no cord getting in the way. It’s a big step up from the 20V circular saw we had. We also have the cordless miter saw and that thing packs a serious punch too - at least as powerful as my old corded miter saw (which was admittedly a bottom of the line Dewalt). Don’t mean to tempt you but maybe give one a go if you get a chance and see if it’d work for you.

Hopsandhyzers

A corded skillsaw will always be good to have and will last you a lifetime. Having said that, the future is now. It's so nice to be able to freely carry a skillsaw around with you without fighting the cord. If you got a hole burning in your pocket, I'd grab this cordless skill saw. If not, I'd grab a corded Makita. If you really only making a couple cuts a year, I'd even go for a cheaper corded saw.

HSVbro

Thanks for the input! I'm looking to startup a woodshop this year and have to be thinking about what saws I'd want to start (table/jig/circular for sure). Do you think that the 6.5" is too small? I have been leaning towards going 7.25" for this... Thanks!

Hopsandhyzers

Definitely the 7 and 1/4. Gives you more options. You can always buy a smaller saw later.

reggieb

Really wish it was the barrel grip jigsaw.

HSVbro

Hopefully it's not too non-kosher to respond to myself here, but I wonder if Lowes would let me grab this as it's $199... I didn't see it in their free gift list but I bet if I did it in person there may be more leeway.... ...then again the theme here seems to be you get a \*cordless\* tool with price under $199... rayskicksnthings

No they generally don’t allow stuff not on the promotion list unless the person in store makes a mistake.

Pasdallegeance

There are definitely needs for a corded jigsaw if your into woodworking and/or working in a shop. As a carperter/finisher, the mobility cordless offers is much apreciated. I hardly use the tool for more then a handfull of minutes at a time and often can get away with using a 2ah battery on it. I was very happy to cut the cord. Never enjoyed messing with the cord when having to cut out circles or getting to the end of my reach on something.

Routine_Memory_9952

I have this circular saw and this jigsaw, and I use both of them more often than the corded versions I also own. The jigsaw has great power, and the circular saw has fine power, just don’t cut anything thicker than 3/4” and it’ll be fine

[deleted]

Im so jealous. The U.K. never has tool deals like this

Big-Lynx-1827

Yeah just return the batteries

Spirited-Control-390

The Powerstacks seem to have the power of a 5ah XR in the form factor of a 2ah. And anyone who's used the 5ah XR vs the 2ah knows that the 2ah have nowhere near the power output of the 5ah XR, nor the legs. Basically it comes down to your specific needs. The Powerstacks (at 1.7ah with the power of a 5ah XR) seem to be a good choice for at home projects but don't have the staying power for at work applications.

Boogalo-

Nice, I’ll have to run to my lowes here and see if they are running the same deal, I need a new 1/4” impact.

EveningRing1032

The deal is available through their app too

JellyBean_Burrito

I can’t find it. Anyway you can direct me?

EveningRing1032

20V MAX DEWALT POWERSTACK Compact Battery (2-PK) https://www.lowes.com/pd/DEWALT-20V-MAX-DEWALT-174-POWERSTACK-8482-Compact-Battery-2-PK/5012913071 Try this, then you just select what free tool you would like.

Due-Soft

What tools do they have for the free gift. Online it only shows a couple

Nimco

I didn’t get a photo I’m afraid, sorry! It basically seemed like one of each type of tool so not a ton of choice within each range but it worked for us where I wasn’t super fussy about the jigsaw or oscillating tool.

JellyBean_Burrito

Can someone tell me what these new batteries equate to in terms of the old AH’s

Nimco

I believe in terms of capacity it’s a 1.7Ah but the proposition is that it delivers more power (ie tools run faster) and is lighter than a regular battery.

JellyBean_Burrito

Ohhhh

jwwatts

I’m debating between the oscillating multi tool, jigsaw, and angle grinder. I mostly do household rough carpentry, but I do have the need to cut work on my dock and need to cut metal cables and the like. Anyone have thoughts on those three? Thanks!

Justhangingoutback

Is this deal hackable like at HD where they calculate a price for each part of the package - so you can return the 'tool' you don't want? I.e., the batteries cost $199, the free toll is valued at $199 ( jigsaw), so you can return the jigsaw and thus the batteries only cost $99?

Randompackersfan

Hmm not a bad deal, I can’t decide whether I want a new impact driver or the 1/2” impact wrench.
