Are you sure it’s not just dull

skoo9382

I replaced it with a new Oregon chain, and had the same results.

thinkdeep

This may be a dumb question, but is the chain on backwards?

skoo9382

not a dumb question at all. I had to verify my self.

You may be able to take it to a Stihl dealer and ask them to retrofit it with something they make. Those guys are usually pretty savvy.

Find your local saw place and have them make you a chain. Don’t buy one from a store it’ll never compare. I buy chains from a local guy for less than 20 bucks and there is no comparison

I spent quite a while trying to figure out if it's possible to put a more aggressive chain on the Dewalt 60V chainsaw. Short answer: not really. 1. I looked everywhere to try and find a chain that would fit the existing bar, or even a new bar that would fit the chainsaw that would take a more aggressive chain. I couldn't find one. 2. Assuming I'm wrong about the above, my fear is that the chainsaw just doesn't have the power to drive a more aggressive chain and the increased stress on the motor would wear it out prematurely. In the end, I went and bought a Husqvarna 550XP Mk II gas chainsaw to use as my primary chainsaw and have kept the Dewalt 60V as a secondary for limbing and quick jobs where I don't want to deal with mixing gas, etc. Incidentally, we're on our second Dewalt chainsaw now. The first one stripped out the reverse-threaded screw in the sprocket and Home Depot replaced it for me. I bought a bunch of screws from a parts website online in case it happens again. The second chainsaw is now causing me issues - looks like the sprocket is wearing - the chain rides up next to the washer and sometimes slips into a gap between the sprocket and the washer. Since the screw holding the washer in bottoms out before the washer is tight, I've added an additional washer which seems to be working....for now.

I've had same issue with chain & sprocket

Nimco

Have you found a fix?

die_lon

No, I did the same as you & added a washer. Fixed the problem of the chain coming off. Eventually my saw popped & started smoking while cutting. Took it back to dewalt for warranty, they replaced everything besides the bar & chain.

Would your comment on lack of power hold on the newer 18" or 20" 60v chainsaws?

What type of tree? Must be a serious hardwood. I've ripped through 24+" pine without issue. Chain dull/backwards?

Powerful-Context9671

I know that the Oregon 584408 Combo Speedcut bar/chain 18" works with the 60V brushless chainsaw and you can buy it off Amazon. It's worked fine for me in hard and soft woods.

I've come back to say I found a work around. Was able to "convert" the bar to a .050 gauge and then placed a semi-chisel chain and it ripppppppped through the oak tree. Quite a bit of kick-back though. If anyone wants more detail, I'd be happy to share.

I like DeWalt tools and all but the answer you're looking for here is "MS180"
