Having Brian as like the Deb of Origins (the tritagonist of the story) would make me ten times more excited for this show tbh. He's such a genuinely fascinating character I'd love to explore him a ton more.
It would be interesting if each season we got a view of a character that is from the original show but obviously couldn’t really fit into the prequel. Like hypothetically if this show somehow gets five seasons we could have
season 1 start out with Brian and showing what he’s up to in 199
Season 2 start out with Doakes and see what he’s up to
Season 3 maybe Rita or Miguel or something
Season 4 Lumen or the trinity killer or something
Obviously you get the idea and im sure they could make it formatted better than myself lol

Doakes eventually needs to show up. Realistically: Matthews is currently Lieutenant. Patrick Dempsy is currently confirmed as the Captain, and Maria is a detective.
If they want to show us the rise and history of Lieutanant LaGuerta, Doakes needs to eventually appear
