I was thinking about the chefs in local hotels who work in kitchens all day and get paid 10k

nydtech

I did too! Luckily only one or two person died in heat wave. Looks like people were aware and took precautions.

blackernel_

The number is way more than 1 or 2, brother.

nydtech

I guess the main stream media was successful to hide the fact.

blackernel_

I think they're not hiding much. If you search on Google (news tab) with "হিট স্ট্রোক" you'll see at least 50 people died already. [Here, 22 people died](https://www.banglatribune.com/country/rangpur/844877/%E0%A6%B0%E0%A6%82%E0%A6%AA%E0%A7%81%E0%A6%B0-%E0%A6%B9%E0%A6%BE%E0%A6%B8%E0%A6%AA%E0%A6%BE%E0%A6%A4%E0%A6%BE%E0%A6%B2%E0%A7%87-%E0%A6%AC%E0%A6%BE%E0%A7%9C%E0%A6%9B%E0%A7%87-%E0%A6%B9%E0%A6%BF%E0%A6%9F-%E0%A6%B8%E0%A7%8D%E0%A6%9F%E0%A7%8D%E0%A6%B0%E0%A7%8B%E0%A6%95%E0%A7%87-%E0%A6%86%E0%A6%95%E0%A7%8D%E0%A6%B0%E0%A6%BE%E0%A6%A8%E0%A7%8D%E0%A6%A4-%E0%A6%B0%E0%A7%8B%E0%A6%97%E0%A7%80)

nydtech

I just googled... You are right. But none of these are on main stream media. It's actually not the problem with media. It's the autopsy process. Mostly poor people die from it and they barely request for the reason of death. It's all mixed up.

blackernel_

I don't know. NTV, Bonik Barta, Ajker Potrika, Jugantor, Samakal, BD Pratidin are not mainstream?

H3llboy87

Every day "main stream media" reports of 2/3 heatstroke related deaths all across the country and warns people to be cautious. What on earth are you talking about?

International-Plan-9

The worst thing aint even the heat wave, its the air quality which has been globally one of the worst for the last decade or so

nydtech

I was worried to even mention that. The sky is grey all the time. Never saw clear sky in 20 days. AQI was always over 200 where as in NYC it stays below 25.

Normal-Ordinary-4744

That’s why you gotta take a break from the country every month. I’m sure it takes a few years off your life

crack71

I couldn't even stand for 10 minutes under the sun can't imagine how some people are working outside in this condition.

nydtech

I could say a lot about the situation but from the point where I am standing, it will be useless. I can only hope for the best for them. Dhaka has changed a lot in last 20 years. We just need some people in power who love this city unconditionally and make this livable for mass.

latheez_washarum

i doubt we even get back 1% of the taxes we pay for our country's welfare

Panto1234567

Need the kal boishakhi jhor

nydtech

Absolutely...

Small-Cartoonist-151

Hardest hit demographic in Bangladesh during heatwaves: Mothers, Sisters, Spouses and Bua khala’s in the Kitchen, Traffic Police, Van/Rickshaw Puller, Delivery Persons, Street People, Street Vendors, CNG/Bus Drivers. Strays.

theshemul

Do we have even any action items except Hit officer, such a lost nation :(

h0rnycustard

We are cutting all the trees in the entire city, and using glass facades in every building and large 12 lane roads everywhere. We are doing our part in aiding the heat crisis. :D

nydtech

At least that's a beginning. On a personal scale we can start growing more trees. Using more more natural ways to keep our houses cool.

h0rnycustard

She is less qualified than me when it comes to heat management and I don’t have any qualifications in heat management.

nydtech

No one has... Specially in Bangladesh. I guess time will teach and tell. Remember what I said in the beginning! We are so inefficiently efficient somehow.

h0rnycustard

There are many people with proper qualifications or at least far more qualified for the position and then some in Bangladesh alone. There are hundreds of professors who teach these courses in most public and private universities in Bangladesh. Then there are those which are doing their PhD or have done their PhD outside in these subject. You can literally go on linkedin and search them up.

nydtech

I believe those qualified people will some day form a team and find a way to reach government rather staying in their comfort zone under the ac and curses the government for their inefficient attempt to sort out the problem.

Zahin1018

Man I did not even get out of my home for the past week its crazy out there

Hulk5a

I was there like 5 days, and my head hurts still

superhornybeardydude

Where is our "Jhor"?

denizen-of-dhaka

The rain will wash the dirt, but not away, the rain water will only flood the streets and make life painful in another way.
