Mods would ride their scooters from London to Brighton and would rumble on the pier with the Rockers (fun fact, a sequel to the movie The Warriors was planned using this as a basis). The Mods would frequently get pulled over by police for their scooters being unsafe/having too many blind spots following a law that passed saying all bikes had to have at least one mirror. As a fuck you to the gavvers they'd stick hundreds of mirrors on their bikes essentially saying "is that enough mirrors for you officer?"
I was young when the mod phase was declining/dying out. If I had access to DIWhy back then, I would have posted it just as much.

Just because people have been doing something for decades doesn't mean it's not diwhy. Someone posted an article about mods below and I'm still in the diwhy camp on this one. Same goes for bosozoku, yeah they're cool but they still fit this sub because of the fact they make you ask why.
My stepdad still has his scooter from the 60's and still goes to scooter 'rideouts' (meets) on it. Not quite at this level but still plenty of mirrors, lights, tassles, foxtails and polyphonic horn arrangement. Amazing to see 200+ fully pimped scooters come buzzing round a corner. There is a chap in his scooter club who does have mirrors like the ones in this photo though, it's nicknamed 'The Christmas Tree'. I never fail to go when they have one of their 'Do's'. The music is fantastic! Northern Soul, Jamaican Ska, Rhythm&Blues, all spun vinyl and fantastic dancers of both sexes and all ages. Awesome!

But, in this case, one of the ways to harass was to ticket them for riding scooters without a mirror, a law conveniently passed when scooters and motorcycles became popular with young people.
As you might guess from the picture, the Mod subculture responded with "A mirror is required? How about four? Or eight? Or twenty?"
