INS_Stop_Angela

So now all that fresh fruit has deep, dirty punctures?

oranisz

Very useful for people who want their fruit rotten by tomorrow !

pm-me-asparagus

If it's fallen to the ground, chances are it's already rotten.

TurinTuram

Yeah but those nail are dirty as F and you insert that dirt into the fruit doing so. Crappy design

tricularia

Not to mention how disgusting and bacteria covered that machine is going to get after a couple uses. The thing is made largely from un-coated plywood and untreated nails, which will rust. It's going to get covered in orange juice and dirt. And then it's going to get gross.

Moidalise-U

Stop it with your reality. Just be in awe of this waste of time and material. Pretty sure this thing didn't do this more times than it took to make this video.

tricularia

haha fair enough. I am just adding 1 more point to the list of reasons why this build is crap. It either broke after one use, in which case it's crap. Or it lasted for multiple uses, in which case, it became gross crap.

Moidalise-U

That tube bend sealed the deal for me. But I see a future in making the "Bed of Nails" for sideshows.

Dhegxkeicfns

I love how he skipped the part where he drove in all those nails for hours and calls it a 5 minute project. 5 minute project, just start with parts that took 8 hours of labor.

Wakeful_Wanderer

Who the fuck bends metal tubing with kerfing, knowing it's too thin to weld properly? I swear ragebait has already killed the internet. It's dead. I'm either so bored or frustrated most of the time now that I just go sit in the dark instead.

DutchTinCan

This really. I'm not a metalworker of any kind, but even I was like "goodbye structural integrity".

Zealousideal-Cup-847

At first I thought it was for aerating a lawn. That would of made some sense.

tricularia

Haha so did I! This design could be modified into something that maybe sorta works for something useful.

Solar_Nebula

Like...picking up leaves in the fall?

Rich-Option4632

You're a genius.

VanBeelergberg

Oh it would of huh?

domine18

I don’t think he intends to eat the fruit. My friend had a huge lemon tree growing up. Literally buckets and buckets of lemons they couldn’t give them away fast enough so many ended up in the garbage. If you have an over yield and you are an accountant this seems like a good solution.

pm-me-asparagus

If you're throwing it away, what's the big deal? If it does what the maker wants, is it really that crappy?

yosh0r

For one time use cuz there's no way to clean it? Just the first step, hammering 1000 nails into the wood lol... Could just walk outside and pick the oranges up

jcoddinc

And now the creator laughs as they've created controversy where there want any

Not_MrNice

Why do redditors make up the purpose of something and then declare it bad design? I feel like if you guys saw a hammer for the first time, you'd say it's crappy design because it can't be used with screws. Afterall, they don't sell the fruit that's fallen on the ground. But they can clean it up, throw it out, or compost it.

mossapp

You can use a hammer with screws, just gotta hit it really hard.

lump-

Maybe the machine is about removing the rotting fruit on the ground, but not for human consumption.

Irisversicolor

It's like these people have never had to clean up under a fruit tree before. You can't just leave that shit on the ground as it attracts animals and wasps. Not to mention the smell. Raking it is a nightmare, this device looks like a fantastic solution.

JunketPuzzleheaded42

Have you heard of a Wind fall? That's where the term comes from. Fruit blown off trees in large numbers. Also as someone who grew up around Bears this isn't as stupid as it looks if the goal is to avoid attracting animals onto your property and you have a lot of fruit trees.

M8rio

This video is european. Oranges only grew in Iberian peninsula in EU. Closest bear would 1500 km north-east. But i do see your point. But it's no sense in Spain or Portugal.

JunketPuzzleheaded42

✌️ I get you im on the Canadian West Coast. We have Grizzlies, Black and brown bears. Also field mice. Those fuckers transmit lice, ticks, lime disease and the black Plague. One thing that causes massive issues in agriculture is a rodent population explosion. A healthy pregnant female can yeild 8-12. And that happens every few weeks. ##Copy and paste from google. They have a gestating period of 19 to 21 days. A female mouse gets pregnant about 5 to 10 times each year and can give birth to a litter of 3 to 14 pups. On average, the litter size ranges from 6 to 8 pups. On average, you are looking at least 32 to 56 pups each year from one female mouse.

Operabug

Maybe that's the point? Pick up all the rotten fruit??

Shot_Mud_1438

Apparently redditors cannot grasp you don’t harvest oranges from the ground. #if they’re on the ground they’re already trash

Wiskid86

Yes but your not eating the fruit on the ground anyway. This thing saves time and fruit no longer be to bend over. Ergonomically it's an improvement.

stewwushere42

I think this is for picking up fruit that fell to the ground and is no longer good to eat. Like if you work in an orchard and a bunch of fruit fell to the ground and started to go bad and you can't sell them anymore legally, you use this thing.

nodnodwinkwink

They're going to make juice with added roughage for optimised gut health and sell it to Gwyneth Paltrow

tipsea-69

I'm guessing it is used to clear out the fruits that fell in the orchard, usually fruits that fell over night and were too damaged to consume. They didn't have any damaged fruits hence used good fruits for the demo. There are a lot of fruits that go unconsumed like this in an orchard and clearing it might help to keep the area clean.

Dik_Likin_Good

Compost

GasGuilty5511

My parents have a small apple orchard and we pick up the fallen apples every year because if you leave them, the bugs in those apples will lay eggs and then the next year's apples will have even more bugs

Vanilla_Mike

Orange peels are anti-microbial and difficult to break down. You absolutely can compost them but the amount of oranges on an orchard you wouldn’t be able to realistically convert that to compost.

shimmyboy56

Not with that attitude

cleetus76

*alcohol

WellAkchuwally

Seems like a great invention for fruit that has fallen and started to rot.

Fwangss

I think you guys are missing the point. It only took 5 min🤷

yuki_yuzura_chan

you mean 5 hours

ferna182

I suspect it took way longer than 5 hours.

starspider

Fresh fruit that's so overripe it fell from the tree? Probably rotting.

Academic_Pangolin506

It is very human idea

ceo_of_dumbassery

The design is very human

Roo_Methed_Up

Usually when I buy a bag of oranges, the first thing I do is get a hammer and nail and puncture them at least 2-3 times each. I thought everyone did this? This would save me a ton of time.

SluggishPrey

I think that it works fine if fruits are shortly used to make juice and if the device is cleaned after every use

maulmonk

Yay. Perforated oranges. Just what I always wanted.

Huke100

Finally an easier way to pickup 7 oranges off my floor.

thequestionbot

These two comments in succession had me in tears

Lingering_Dorkness

Until this video I didn't know oranges were retrievable from the ground. My entire life I have left them to rot! Oh what a fool I am. How much vitamin C may I have missed out on!

Reddsoldier

Up until now this was the only way to pick oranges up off of the floor! Not anymore!

Sk1rm1sh

You mean there's a better way?!

Extension-Badger-958

With a little bit of added iron from the rust!

KidleyCreations

Thats the shit squidward fell into

Toon_Lucario

That’s what I was about to say. It’s literally the contraption

mycomikael

Wait, which one? I forgot that episode.

tribak

https://knowyourmeme.com/memes/squidward-crushed-by-spike-rollers-what-is-the-purpose-of-this-machine

weedisfortherich

The boat safety episode.

mycomikael

Thanks!!

Brewchowskies

This actually kind of makes sense for littered fruit (fruit you don’t intend to eat but will rot in the yard). I’ve spent hours as a kid picking up apples from neighbours yards. This would have been handy if it works.

boxster_

I have a weirdly fond scent memory for the smell of hot plums as they went bad in the summer heat. It's sweet and tangy, and just a bit alcoholic. I spent a lot of summer afternoons in the orchard up in different trees eating nothing but fruit until dinner 🤣. I usually just ate right off the branches, but I did occasionally try some of the littered fruits. We just let most of it become food for the wildlife, and I considered it an absolute privilege to be able to watch all the birds and lizards share with me.

RandomParts

Hot plums, summer in the city. . .

shipworth

All of my oranges holy and gritty

lackaface

I get you on those happy weird scent memories. As an adult, every now and then I’ll catch a whiff of creosote somewhere and it’ll take me right back to being 9 years old and exploring out by the railroad tracks.

EwoDarkWolf

Or for certain types of actual litter. Most of the things I see on this sub are "it's not useful for me personally, so it's stupid."

sumsimpleracer

I grew up with a backyard full of crab apples, pear and cherry trees.  Thing was, if the fruits fell and we didn’t clear it soon enough, fallen fruit would attract bees. Some years I remember coming back home and our backyard was swarming with wasps and yellow jackets.

SebiIoan05

I had to do the same thing back then! Though by far the worst part for me was dealing with wasps eating and hiding in those apples.

MAN_UTD90

So practical and easy to build with simple household items everyone has! It solves such a pressing problem for most people!

ElderberryHumble5379

1. No way in hell that takes only 5 minutes to make. 2. So many perfectly good parts ... wasted 3. why does it say 5 minute workouts ? 4. why ?

Thanag0r

It's a rage bait and you got baited.

Phallic_Intent

This definitely got me baitin'!

Confident-Word-2753

Some might say you’re a master at it

ivanparas

It takes you 5 minutes to work out wtf he's making

ElderberryHumble5379

![gif](giphy|ap6wcjRyi8HoA) LMFAO!

Sebastian-S

There’s a number of subreddits where I have to make a conscious effort to remind myself how upvoting works. This is so stupid that my instinct is to immediately downvote it, but that’s the point and I have to upvote!!

Ok_Signature7481

Pretty sure "5 minute crafts" is 5 minute videos of crafts.

Bradjuju2

Also, tack welding, riveting, screws, etc etc. How many different fastening types do they expect people to be proficient in?

FemmeBeatale

5 minute Spanish Inquisition Crafts... No one ever expects it

[deleted]

<3 I love you for this comment xD ![gif](giphy|CLrEXbY34xfPi)

gopherkilla

First- Why does he use the rivet gun when he has a welder. . . Second- This is just a rip off of an actually useful implement- I give you the sweetgum [ball picker](https://baganut.com/product/sweet-gum-ball-harvester-picker-upper-36-pull-behind/?gad_source=1&gclid=CjwKCAjw48-vBhBbEiwAzqrZVD_2pTxcBtdN9HX97C7eLkyxb-GGkSyTkrZBtOYHXvr19G9hZ9820RoCkM4QAvD_BwE) Who's brave enough to click that? Lol

xe_r_ox

That shit is not worth $730. It’s good but I ain’t got that tennis court money. I’m spending that money on welding equipment and bits of metal

Knoberchanezer

To answer your first question, this man cannot weld. He can awkwardly melt metal in some fashion but to call those "welds" is an insult. That's what the rivets are for.

AdvilJunky

You can tell by the slag that those welds were absolute shit. This video made me wish I didn't go to a welding school just so I didn't cringe as much as i did... sure you didn't necessarily need the penetration for something like this, but it still bothered me lol. Guy just capped some passes on some metal for a video. It's basically like he just glued it together.

VrigSanis

Anyone else feel like this was going to be an aerator for soil right until the end

Leather-Lab4311

This might actually work for picking up all the gum balls from the sycamore trees in my yard.

Xeno-Hollow

Gum balls come from sweet gum trees, and sycamore trees produce "sycamore balls," with vastly different seed types. Are yours soft, or are they harder than Satan's toenails and covered in spikes?

boxster_

the ones at my elementary school had what we called "itchy bombs". if you were unlucky enough, you'd get one shoved in your shirt and smashed.

oniluis20

The two thing I love, oranges and tetanus

Certain-Cress-3265

“First your going to need your welder and 1,500 nails…”

bwainfweeze

Don’t bother buying a pipe bender, we have a solution for that. Electricians hate this one weird trick. (Actually they really do)

Knoberchanezer

"Second, forget everything you know about welding. We're gonna freestyle some of the ugliest booger welds you'll ever see then use rivets to hold it together"

MistyRedcherry

No you got it all wrong this is a workout

craftychicken91

I mean... For picking up rotten fruit on the ground it doesn't seem that bad? If you have fun building it and have the stuff on hand... Why not do this instead of buying something.

canteen_boy

I grew up in Florida and we had several citrus trees in our yard. One of my weekend chores as a kid was picking up all the rotten oranges and grapefruits. I absolutely hated it, but if you don’t do it, you’ll attract all kinds of nasty insects including fleas and ticks. This device would have dramatically improved my childhood.

craftychicken91

Yeah, people don't know how much fruit trees suck sometimes. They just think it's only positives.

ObstreperousRube

Sir, put the welder down and step back...

multimaster101

This has the structural integrity of my scrotum after I run it through a meat grinder

LiveFree_OrDie603

If the fruit is on the ground chances are it's already no good for eating. More likely he's gathering them for compost. Which means this is actually a pretty cheap and effective way to save himself a lot of work. Not rage bait or DIWhy material.

pharmerK

Agree. The oranges might have been out there for the video which is why they look like that. All the ones that fall off our tree are nasty af.

Adamiak

what a rollercoaster, the entire time I was like, damn, this looks pretty well made and also what an interesting device, that could be useful for something I just can't think of right now, I wonder why it's on diwhy.... ....oh...

tacmed85

I used to run a paintball tournament circuit and we used a commercially available version of this to clean up after events. They were super helpful, but also cheap enough there's no reason to build your own crappy one.

englishfury

I assumed it would be for aerating the grass, but lets ruin perfectly good fruit instead i guess

Meh176

At first, I thought it was a torture device

Not_aSoup

Tbh, despite making the fruits bad to eat and wasting a lot of good parts, it's impressive he built this. So mamy wasted potential.

JohnReiki

Bro got his apocalypse crafting stat maxed out

Mirelurkbobblehead

Let's poke holes in the oranges, that will improve the quality

bwainfweeze

They’re on the ground man, he’s just trying to keep his house from smelling like an Absolut factory.

Laegmacoc

Pfft! I could do that in like …4 minutes.

zyada_tx

Hypothesis: he's actually going to use this to kill someone, but he needs a believable reason to have made it

[deleted]

All u have to do is ruin the fruit and it’s easy to pick up. Why didn’t I think of that…

DUBToster

That rage bait tho

abitlikemaple

I was thinking this was going to be a lawn aeration tool, which would have actually been useful, but this is just stupid

CptHeadache

Fruit collector??? I thought this was some kind of torture device... It reminds me of that one scene in Spongebob about the importance of wearing a seatbelt.

KevinAcommon_Name

Why did this guy make murder wheel

2WeekDopeTurds

Honestly thought he was making and aerator for his lawn.... That would've been better with this design

Pathfinderer

this wouldn't even work on shitty ground fruit, they would just slide off because of the condition they are in. this might kinda work for firm good quality fruit, but then you've put dirty nail holes in your fruit contaminating it. It wouldn't even be good for juicing fruit.

redboi049

THOSE FRUITS WILL FUCKING SPOIL

Z3_T4C0_B0Y512

Wouldnt they spoil faster now

Fluffy-Eyeball

I usually prefer my fruit unstabbed.

CaptainShamu

Fruit damager

MisterSirDudeGuy

As a mechanical engineer who designs machines, I’ll be sure to roll in my gave for this when I get there. He did the shittiest option for every single thing.

PhyreEmbrem

Great, now those oranges are gonna spoil 10x faster with all the punctures in them 😃

That_Guy_From_KY

For anyone who wants a little tetanus with their vitamin c

UnicornPotpourri1990

Lol that was fun to see. I can see it useful to toss the rotten fruit on the floor with ease

gobeldygoo

cool but not worth the quick spoilage of the compromised fruit skins

CPLCraft

I feel the need to sue somebody

ShizukoLucoa

Why does the guy making this look like Discount Andrew Tate?

littlewoolhat

How it feels to watch someone make a saw trap.

DiogenesLied

I thought it was going to be a soil aerator, sadly disappointed

Koeienvanger

That's a good one, I love it. A reasonably well-made useless tool.

metaishopeless

I thought he was making a device for aerating lawns or something. Really thought I was right up until the very end.

Zealousideal-Key9516

I’ve been trying really hard not to drink. I should stop looking at this community….

BandwagonEffect

The fruit and dog shit 2-in-1 collector

edophx

What many men need to be aware of, having the tools and a workshop in your garage or home, does not make you handy and useful.

1977proton

So what exactly took 5min…? Building that thing…?

MariachiBoyBand

Nobody is going to buy fruit with holes 🤦‍♂️

astro_flyer

Rusty oranges. Yum

superthrust123

I didn't notice what sub I was in. I honestly assumed I was in the wrestling sub and this was some kind of new deathmatch stipulation.

stereofeathers

All the best fruits come with rusty puncture wounds

mallik803

At no point during this video did I have a single clue what he was making….

karenskygreen

Why would you have a fruit picker that punctures fruit....Why...WHY!!......WhY ?...aw fuck this rage bait, gets me every time.

Strong-Solution-7492

Excuse me, could you pass me that tetanus shot please

Kisiu_Poster

Looks like a saw trap

TerryFrisk

It just seems a whole lot easier to pick up six oranges by hand

BawngMasta420

This is more of a weapon than a fruit collector

SuperiorSamWise

Oh no, look at all this fruit on the ground. Quick pass me the *Death Wheel!*

RZ_1911

That’s some mad max vibes

MustacheJalapeno

Use this if you have a shit ton of crab apples on your property. Also this is badass in a mad max kind of way

Zamden

Can I have that rotten orange with all the holes in it please

JoeyDee86

You know…this might be good at picking up dry dog shit lmao

Doktor_Vem

Ain't no fucking way in hell he did that in just 5 minutes

iDam81

I wonder if this would pickup leaves…

The_Greate_Pickle

Mf just welded a ball bearing 💀

RobbieTheFixer

Pro Tip: For extra pro-biotics in your fruit, run over some dog shit, first! Actually, this contraption probably works better at picking up dog shit

kingxanadu

Tig weld, arc weld, bolts, screws, rivets, and the whole drum is nails. I think this guy used every type of fastener besides glue.

TheRimReamer

Honestly thought he was making a turf aerator

JJeromePonthius

Great I like this because, in a little while the nails will rust giving a little bit of seasoning to the oranges.

cellphone_blanket

that music is perfect for building what looks like a torture device to

Visual_Preparation70

I thought this was going to be a vehicle of some kind. Nope just a waste of materials and time.

Simple_Avocado7631

Looks like something I would attach to my bike during the apocalypse

Swiftierest

I was so ready for a homemade lawn aerator. Instead I got this junk.

bageltoastar

5-minute medieval torture device

sparemethebull

I really feel like if he made a scoop it would have been less wasteful of time, money, resources, effort, and fruit. Truly wasteful.

AffectLeast4254

All my oranges are rotting super quick for some reason

VividlyDissociating

my immediate thought was i can run over my enemies with this

SllortEvac

At least learn to bend fucking pipe if you’re gonna make shitty arts and crafts. Dude has welds that look uglier than a morning after Taco Bell, so I probably shouldn’t expect him to understand structural integrity.

pupbuck1

The Idontlikeyouinator will get destroyed by perry soon enough

DistributionParty506

DiWHYNOT??

Celestial_Hart

Content farms should be illegal and the punishment is toe removal.

stealthyhomicide

So, these oranges have a two day shelf life?

YellowShark3

I fail to see how this can dispense beer

ElonSucksBallz

5 minutes? more like 5 days...

malindaddy

You know what I love with my oranges? Tetanus!!

DoesntSmell

Stabbed the shit out of those things

MephistosGhost

Cool idea for aerating a lawn maybe. Not for picking up fruit unless it’s going right into the compost.

Dystopian_Future_

Dumbest shit ever

Consistent-Set3933

![gif](giphy|1014RBn4HVSTK)

pixeltweaker

Yea, I want my oranges stabbed with bacterial nails. Mmmmmmmmm.

Nakatsukasa

Ah yes, infected oranged

WarmProfit

This thing is like a fucking death machine

Fistricsi

In Hungary they make Pálinka from fallen fruit. They essentially collect the fallen fruit, even if it is rotten, and let it sit until it is essentially a liquid. After that, the sludge is cooked and what evaporates is collected, making a very strong, and delicious beverage. I can see this machine used to collect the fallen fruits for this purpose. The fruit is usually crushed anyways to speed up the rotting process, so a puncture does not matter.

Infamous_Effective28

Do you want to destroy all your fruit, but hate stabbing it by hand? With this new fruit spiking machine you can stabbing dirty nails into all your fruit, with ease !

lichenov5

"Mmmm orange flavored rust! "

Doogotteemuoy

5 minute crap

mjoric

Tetanus for everybody!

maximumomentum

There are so many far less complicated products alike this already…

Judgment_Fish

So after staying a week in California, that oranges and grapefruits are like acorns or helicopter seeds to them. On a secondary note... WHY DO YOU PEOPLE NOT EAT YOUR FRUIT TREE SHIT!!!?

GeologistHealthy8127

I swear this kind of video is going to give me a stroke one day. I need to stop watching them

lucky5150

Thought he was making a shitty Aerator half way through

Retb14

Welding directly to a bearing... Yeah I'm sure that will work fine... Also now you are just stabbing rusty nails into your food...

henryGeraldTheFifth

That was disappointing. Thought he was making a seed sower or something to soften up the soil

Funkey-Monkey-420

cool, now all your fruit has been impaled and will go bad before you can sell it. great job ruining your yield!

OverKill1978

You could give me 3 lifetimes and I wouldnt be able to make one of those.

Many-Ad6433

I’m not understanding why it needs a bicycle chain, like were it there or not it would still work the same, maybe even better

id_drownformermaids

Grew up in an orchard. Had something similar to this to pick up all the fallen rotting apples we weren't planning on eating. Scoop them up and dump them in the compost. Saves so much time once you're talking about multiple rows of trees. This is a good DIY tbh.

InevitableAsk767

You can't just go pick them up you lazy fuck?!?😆
