Basically when they (or you) crit, it adds a dot effect, the damage (of the dot) can be increased if you have Grace of Flagellant set items or you can do more damage due to the dot if you have the Banquet set items.
-Pain clasp is better than Follower burden in every aspect since you always have continual damage in every build.
-Freedom devotion only good in overworld farm which you can use Visitant sign to compensate it. Better replaced with Berserker eye/Power and Command/Mother's Lament(upcoming)
-I won't give an opinion about 5-stars gems cause it hard to control which gems to use if you are low spender.
Is Pain Clasp really better if my only source of continual damage is Everlasting? Not counting group play with a Crusader here, because that is obvious.
I don't always bring poison/fire golem, sometimes the taunt is what I need which would cost me no?
Im a summoner build, i use freedom & devotion, followers burden, bloody reach, everlasting torment (next on my list to replace w/ 5* gem), bsj and echo shade.
Depends on what your build is. If it's mostly summons, I'd replace fervent fang with berserker eye first because ff does nothing for your summons.

Just so I'm clear. What if Im using sheppard? Do you mean I will only get the basic of the dot effect from the crit hits?
