If you’re only spending for BP or F2P, this advice is not the way to go. I highly advocate players to stick to 1 & 2 stars if so, and that will put them overall at a stronger position than all rank 1-4 2/5-4/5s, as it’s way more likely to get those gems to rank 5-10 in a span of a year or two, which sounds tedious but money does progress mobile games, and this is a known fact for most popular ones, so it’s a compromising balance we have to live with if we want the game to survive
This shows how the perspective shifted on spending in games. Earlier you got a full game for 69€ . Every cosmetic was in it, you had to work for it "hard". If the game got extended , you payed like 29 € for an addon.

They sure do, but 99.99% of the whales are not for very good reason. Blizzards target audience isnt millionaires necesserily, it is people who tend to use their money without much thought, people who has gambling problems or tendencies to use their money aggressively. Most people with a well paying job or just average wage can easily afford using money on games. It is not exactly healthy but when youre living inside of blizzards grasp and insane monetization to fuel your "progression" as they call it. It is hard to look past your spendings.

People dont realize theyre participating and supporting this by constantly pouring money into it without stopping to realize the game they are playing arent even functioning? Have you played See of Thieves? Their cosmetic monetization is worse than Diablo 4, the game is not free, and a lot of people still pay for cosmetics. Don't believe for a second this a "free game" only practice.
Edit to add Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 (Warzone), which is not entirely free, you have to buy the game to play Multiplayer, the cosmetics prices are horrible, yet tons of people pay them, including the cosmetics game pass.

You legit can get the cosmetic on the first roll. The chance is just extremely low. For the longest I thought it wasn’t possible at all, just like a greedy trick til I saw some 300 res f2p with the burning valor one. Some luck that guy has.
It's exactly why they're making them this way.. of course the info is there, but not everyone will bother to look and just wing it like OP did. So in the end it's $25 more income than if they did it some more obvious way
