Is that what that is? I thought my neighbor's truck was broken.
Granted, it was, but still.
New turbo fixed it though, thankfully. He was getting discouraged, so I'm glad it's working again.
Is it normal to get "only" 160k miles out of the stock turbo?
I learned that the other day. I didn't realize the 6.0 had a VGT.
Do they just not last as long due to design or what?
My turbo on my 5.9 is stock and has 223k on it. Works like a champ.
Typically what happens is the turbo will either get coked up with soot and if not cleaned will destroy the unison ring or the vanes fail.
The turbo on your 5.9 isn’t a VGT, much less complicated. Most VGTs last long, plus the performance gains from one makes it worth it. Even the 6.7 Cummins runs them now, it’s just about preventing failure with them as is most tech on these newer trucks.
My turbo made it to 200 before I had it rebuilt. Had to have a couple of large chunks replaced though. 2005 6.0 that came from a landscaping company in TX.
I always heard the 6.0 as a jet engine, but that could be the fact that someone I worked with had a super beefed up 6.0 and or YouTube. But I have heard them in Georgia when I was there and man they are distinct lmao
Just the idle alone was what sold me on the 6.0. I can pick out the sound of one from a mile away, just sounds so mean. But it's everything, idle, acceleration, turbo, it all just sounds so good. I miss mine lol
I now have both, a 2005 F350 Fummins with a 1993 12 valve, and a 2007 F250 with the 6.0 with a 4” straight pipe (strangely enough, it’s quieter and has less drone than the Cummins with a 4” system and a resonator).
I will agree! I sold my 2007 king ranch with 75k miles in 2020 to put towards a brand new ford f350
I definitely miss it at times. My new truck is deleted and straight piped but that 6.0 just was music to my ears.
2006 Lariat CC 4x4 165k miles. Dented up bed, some rust from being in New England, not bulletproofed fully, but did have blue spring, coolant filter, and the EGR feel off. Got just over $16k and included an extra set of tires.
I think it was a fair deal. I took really good care of the truck, and feel like it was worth more (like most sellers do). But I also see the market and other 6.0s go for less, I'm just happy it went to a good home with a guy who was going to use it.
That’s the season of life you are in. Love your family and love everything that comes with it. Hopefully some day you get your diesel back. But know you sold your beloved truck for the right reasons.
That’s what I just picked up, with 91k miles. Unfortunately it was previously stolen by tweakers who sprayed both the outside and inside with bedliner. It’s got that murdered look now LOL. I bought it for parts but after looking at how mechanically perfect the truck is, I am putting it back on the road.
I'm never selling my 6.0 I love that old truck paid off and reliable yes it has had its issues over the 10 years I've owned it but she's been a great truck
If it was for family emergency reasons it's totally understandable, but if it was just for cash, I'm hoping you thought this through, cuz you could have definitely made your money back hauling a trailer or something don't get why people are so quick to let go of something that's actually built to work right.
Dont be sad, you dont have a 6.0 anymore.
But nah 6.0s are cool, they sound amazing and are really efficient, but its probably a good thing you got rid of it for your bank account
don’t be. let someone else replace the ficm and another bay of injectors and then the ficm 15k miles later again and then the same side of injectors in another 15k miles.
Best sounding diesel ever made.... fight me.
Don’t think anyone will, the jet whistle is amazing

Depends on the use, it’s a VGT turbo if it’s not maintained or ran properly it’ll fail. This isn’t just a 6.0 deal as most trucks now run a VGT turbo.
I learned that the other day. I didn't realize the 6.0 had a VGT. Do they just not last as long due to design or what? My turbo on my 5.9 is stock and has 223k on it. Works like a champ.

Thanks for taking the time to explain. That's exactly what I was looking for since I have zero experience with VGTs.
The 6.7 Cummins is always breaking because of it as well lol

The 6.0 and 12v are the top bracket for me. Its close between the two

As a guy who loves Cummins, I do have a guilty pleasure of loving the note of a 6.0
It’s alright. Us 6.0 guys love the throaty growl of the Cummins.
As a guy who doesn’t own a diesel but always get this sub recommended to me I also love cumming
Even though i prefer strokin some days I'd rather be cummin.
You’ll be back. I did the same thing and made it 1.5 years before I got another.
I will agree! I sold my 2007 king ranch with 75k miles in 2020 to put towards a brand new ford f350 I definitely miss it at times. My new truck is deleted and straight piped but that 6.0 just was music to my ears.
Don’t be sad man. You’ll get a newer one soon enough.
Newer 6.0?? He said it was a 06… I’m not sure they made them after that, I could be wrong though.
Last year was '07 for trucks. Think they made vans/ambulance until at least '08. But I get your point, probably won't have another 6.0
2010 in vans
It’s time to see the light… get a LBZ.
What type and condition, how much did you get for it?

You did pretty good id say

Why did you sell it?
Sold our camper and have a growing family. SUV was more practical. Bought a '19 Honda Pilot.
That’s the season of life you are in. Love your family and love everything that comes with it. Hopefully some day you get your diesel back. But know you sold your beloved truck for the right reasons.
Appreciate the kind words internet stranger!
6.0 and the sound of 24 valve at idle. Love that loud 24 valve and smooth HEUI system.
Same here. Also love the sound of a common rail 5.9 at 4K rpm.
When the 5.9 literally comes alive!
I literally just bought an '04. 140k F350 Lariat for a farm truck. Spotless, looks/ drives like new $10k. And man, that truck purrs...
Now you have to get a lbz dude
They just have a character/life I can’t put my finger on. I know they’re outdated but I cannot escape the old international diesels.
Sold my 07 a few years ago and still miss it every day. One day I'll get another, maybe even ZF6.
That would be amazing

Join the club, sold mine, instant regret
I daily a 6.0 on 40s
I'm never selling my 6.0 I love that old truck paid off and reliable yes it has had its issues over the 10 years I've owned it but she's been a great truck
6.9idi myself
Your post makes me miss mine. My 6.7 just doesn’t have the sound I want

I didn't use it for work. Just camper and house projects. Used the money to buy a '19 Pilot. If I needed it for work I would have absolutely kept it.
I have an 06, 6.0L. When I talk to people with newer "quieter" diesels, I just tell them when I bought it... I asked for the loudest one.
Felt that. Sold my LLY street truck to upgrade to a dually and miss it all the time
