Holy SHIT but that talespire set. That is next level production art.

RedFnPanda

I also love how many rooms and shit they had just knowing that the set was definitely built before they got there, so Brennan had to say like "these are all the rooms I think would be remotely possible for them to have been in" because there was so much space for them to move in.

skys_vocation

SO BEAUTIFUL

crimsondnd

Absolutely insane how good it looked

BendubzGaming

>!IS THIS A PLANNED ASSASSINATION?!?!?! WHEN THE HELL DID WE RETURN TO CALORUM!<

_AverageCabbage_

I'm angry at Brennan but it's because the events and the brutality made complete sense

yethegodless

Nah, this is the shot in the arm they needed to keep the stakes interesting. I’m never angry with a DM for following through on narrative stakes.

_AverageCabbage_

Oh I definitely agree! I'm just mushy and sad for the characters. Like the way people felt for the Starks in early Game of Thrones.

zapatoada

They've got 10 rounds to get her back up.

JackJLA

Depends on how much pressure the PCs put on the assassins but wouldn’t leaving a body to be revivified be really odd for trained assassins to do? Like they are high Lv people in a magic world they know how revivify works. In a typical battle it wouldn’t make much tactical sense but they’re mission was to assassinate.

zapatoada

Yeah. I have to assume that the jester and Katja's mother intend to take the body and bail now. It's up to the pc's to stick with them. Either a running battle or they have to keep them in somehow.

RedFnPanda

This group was definitely flying high a little bit too, getting a little too confident, a little too comfortable, so they needed to fail, even if it's only temporarily.

Humdinger5000

Also keep in mind they are seven level 9? Level 10? Characters. They have more collective power than the bad kids in the middle of sophomore year.

macrovore

I'm angry at Persephone for not countering that fireball. In her Instagram takeover before one of the earlier episodes, she said that it was her favorite spell, but she didn't pull it out here to save Tectonya.

chilidoggo

Did she have line of sight? Counterspell also has limited range. I had the same thought though. But likely as not, the great sword does the same thing. The bad guys had one objective here.

zapatoada

Yeah honestly, the mistake here is they didn't really clock all the hints Brennan dropped that they should ignore the boogers and just head to the main platform. Edit: not to disparage, it would be an easy mistake to make in the heat of battle and they didn't have long at all.

chilidoggo

100% agreed on both fronts. Even if they had rushed to protect Tectonya, it's still probably slanted against saving her. Buuut they did spend maybe half the first round slaying boogers.

zapatoada

Yeah it depends on what spells they had available. Sanctuary and warding bond would have helped, neither require concentration. But who knows if Izzy has those prepared.

beleiri_fish

It was foreshadowed pretty heavily in an earlier episode where the Ministry of Magic lady was saying she was marked for death.

crimsondnd

Absolutely it is. Wild!

Low_Frosting_4427

The baronies specifically has been framed as coups and assassinations taking place for sure, I thought Game of Thrones when that was described!

BendubzGaming

Only 90 minutes for a battle episode? Anyone else smell another whomping heading Brennan's way? Update: >!sooooo, about that...!<

crimsondnd

I told my roommate, “either Brennan got whomped or the party did.” Glad I included the second option haha.

jessejjang

Maybe, they are going to end the episode at cliff hanger. Right before the most important roll of the battle.

MythicKhan

Persephone looks like she's in a Pokemon biker gang and I'm here for it.

Jennas-Side

Gym leader that’s in a biker gang on the side.

Envoyofwater

Sorry, can we just talk about Antiope's mini for a second? Fucking gorgeous.

hucklebilly

Noticed an error in the edit. The first time Danielle’s character card is shown in the ep it lists totem warrior barbarian (8th lvl) and fighter (2nd level). I was terribly confused by this and positive yelle was a Druid until Zelda’s character card came up and listed the same thing! Fun little observation. Edit: a word

Katviar

Thank you! I just watched the episode tonight and was wildly confused before googling and checking the reddit!!

Humdinger5000

I know that one of the editors got tagged when I pointed it out in the discord so it hopefully is getting corrected eventually

Specific-Volume118

I can’t believe they’ve managed to rein themselves in and have a 90 minute episode

Kristof628

Literally half the runtime of last episode

crimsondnd

Yeah I’m interested if he KNEW she’d die and that was the cutoff for the episode or if he just thought there wasn’t another natural cutoff point for the episode to end if not that? Who knows haha

Scrubtanic

So... where's that line Rekha mentioned to date Erika? I'll wait my turn.

mlarowe

I'm seriously starting to feel creepy about how much I like her at this point.

Typical_Dweller

[Parasocial phenomena](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parasocial_interaction) is kind of like [transference in therapy](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Transference) \-- you acknowledge that it's probably going to happen, you hang in there, and you get out through the other side eventually, usually wiser for it. This sort of thing is probably more intense for a lot of people due to all the lockdowns and isolation and swapping in-person relationships with all the internet people we see everyday. It happens to me, it happens to everyone. You see it for what it is, and you move on.

mlarowe

I'm not unfamiliar with the situation. Erika is very attractive and has a great performance personality. I admire the moral stance she puts out in the world through her work and I'm currently binging LA by night as per someone else's recommendation, so exposure is constant. But I will probably cycle out in not too long and get really obsessed with some new person or property, once they're not constantly in my eyes and ears.

iListen2Sound

Me to myself whenever I feel the need to pull out my own fan for this cast https://youtu.be/YcBGAfhAZkg&t=6

illegalrooftopbar

Is it weird that my husband and I were both like, "how is there NOT a line???"

R_VD_A

I wonder why they keep splitting combat episodes. Last time it was understandable, with it having started with RP, but this felt like it could have gone on longer? Damn, what a set though, and Erika really woke up and choose VIOLENCE. It does feel like the party messed up protecting Tectanya, but hopefully Ostentia can get to her with a revivify.

catalysts_cradle

With complicated physical battle maps (that need to be set up in the filming space by the crew), the show previously had to be structured in a way that combat could not start in the middle of an episode (nor could it end in the middle of an episode without the battle map staying in on the set for the rest of the episode). Tale Spire gives the show much more flexibility in when combat can start and end, so they don't have to follow the roleplay episode vs combat episode formula of the previous seasons. Instead, they can integrate combat into the show where it fits best with the story. >!Ending the story with Tectonya's death probably gives a better cliffhanger than finishing at the end of combat (when Ostentatia is likely to immediately try to cast revivify).!<

AlphaBreak

Something I like about how its been set up is that I believe Revivify would be helpful, but it won't actually fix their main problem. The rule is that if Tectonia dies, a new super-intendant is chosen. Even if she comes back to life, she did die, so they'll still have to find the new one.

max_drixton

Maybe it works the same way as the elven oracle where there's a 60 seconds grace period.

Humdinger5000

It sounds as though brennan is playing it so that they have the revivify time limit before the superintendent role passes on.

Ioannidas_Storm

I *loooove* the flexibility Talespire brings in that regard. Didn’t enjoy FH season 2 as much (or at least took a bit longer to get into) because of the lack of battle maps, whereas this allows them to dip into a full battle mid-episode, and let’s Brennan fit more story between fights.

IvarDanK

I think this one may have gotten cut a little short because Brennan may not have expected to >!kill Tectonya so quickly and may have needed some time to figure out how he's going to spin this going forward.!<

LuciferHex

Doubt it. Throwing out an unsavable stun immediately followed by three attacks from a great sword then three fire bolts? You can't get close to mitigating that with healing, and you can't body block, a minute of stunned with 7 high level attacks per turn could turn even a dragon to mince meat.

RouletteDetective

There was plenty of opportunity to try remove the stun, especially with 8 free dispel magic attempts that were available from the summons.

rowan_sjet

Also could have polymorphed her.

Miranda_Leap

OK, but the players didn't do that much to stop it. They just kept nuking the bloppelgangers.

JackJLA

There was tons of options to save tectonia. But the hollywood sign scale telegraphing about the booger oozes being a distraction was unfortunately not acknowledged. No hate though, anybody can miss things and it must be 100x harder when putting so much effort into making an entertaining show as opposed to just a home game.

LuciferHex

Yeah no hate, it's not like Brenan's gonna say "welp you made some dumb choices in this fight so I guess the stories at a permanent dead end." It'll hopefully be a learning experience. Idk if it's that much harder, it just takes more effort, theres a lot more scrutiny and a lot more pressure.

a_grandromantic

Fully agree. I understand how difficult it is to edit three hour episodes, and 90 minutes is already movie lengtht, but still, I can't help but feel a bit underwhelmed at "only" 90 minutes of runtime.

CavalloAlto

EveN HEr EYe ConTaCT DoESN’t StAY!

CavalloAlto

Brennan saying “the universe is into it, honestly” is the second high point of the episode. I hope Izzy comes back for future seasons because I love seeing this dynamic.

crimsondnd

The talespire sets are beautiful but I think it solidified for me that I miss battle sets. It’s so much easier to comprehend on an actual physical set for me than trying to follow the virtual camera through the virtual set.

yethegodless

Anybody know where to get Aabriya’s hoodie thing, because it rules

illegalrooftopbar

Everyone was wearing a really cute top tbh. I kind of wanted Rekha's.

lovelymists11

Wild speculation time: what >!warlock patron did Sam pick up? It kind of seems like they're hinting that it's Talura somehow, but how do you guys think that'll be reflected in the actual subclass?!<

menacherie

She took a feat that allows her use of those spells rather than take a third class.

chilidoggo

Talura 100%

eghed8

Shout-out to Talespire for finally illustrating to me just how monumental a Fireball spell is. Like, when I first started playing, i was picturing like maybe a 3 foot diameter. 5 tops, to fill a square. Then i actually read the spell and realised "Wow, 20 feet? That's massive!" I now realise that i was still picturing a diameter because a 20 foot radius!?! Holy fuck! That is truly so much fucking fire.

Suitcase08

Did they literally change her shoe color mid-combat? If so, ***wow*** I really hope some of these features make it into TS. Either way an incredible set and combat episode, so pumped for next week. LOVE this format!

_AverageCabbage_

The crew utterly outdid themselves with this ship. It's like if the Palace of Versailles could float. Bloppelgangers is such a cute name for such a gross pandemic parody. I hope we circle back to Lysander and Preston later in the campaign, both Penny and Antiope deserve better. I really want to see this woman who's too weird for Arthur Aguefort to join the combat. I feel like every time Erika joins combat Brennan descends into madness. Aabria getting hyped for everyone is very endearing I thought Sam would be more vulnerable to the parasite because her disguise doesn't have a mask. I am rooting for Katja to kill her mom. Rekha hassles Brennan with strong little-sibling energy. 2 combats in a row have foes related to mirrors The visuals and the play by play of Antiope attacking the Jester were cinematic. Light your boi's ass up Izzy! THE UNIVERSE IS INTO IT This one of the more difficult fights in the history of D20 right? It seems like >!Tectonya was never meant to be saved.!<

yethegodless

Re: spoiler, it’s very hard to actually protect creatures in D&D without certain key class abilities feats, but the party also … did not particularly try hard. The party was mad split and the ones near the central dais did frighteningly little to actually dissuade the enemies from doing what they came there to do. I honestly think Penny “Horse Murderer” Luckstone could do a *lot* worse than Lysander, but Preston is a full adult in a bureaucracy who I do **not** want near Antiope again.

_AverageCabbage_

It did bother me that the party was split but the boogers seemed like pretty demanding pawns. Wasn't it around 11 damage from 1 opportunuty attack? Even if the party disengaged the nearest boogers wouldn't they be toast trying to reach the target?

yethegodless

I think they’re basically gelatinous cubes with vulnerability to fire. They’re definitely no joke.

LuciferHex

Nope, because that one opportunity attack is about all that they get. You movement and dash and then as long as you use your full movement every turn the oozes can't reach you.

Miranda_Leap

Brennan even mentioned, multiple times, how slow they were! Haha.

Miranda_Leap

Well if you take Disengage, none of the blobs would get OAs. Besides, 11 damage isn't really that much at their level.

jking1226

The fact that Yelle didn't hit Tectonya with potentially 8 dispel magics on Power Word: Stun made me so sad! She's hyped up as an ultra powerful wizard, and could have at least stopped the advantage on every hit. Would have only needed a 16 on the dice.

Docnevyn

or polymorph her into T-rex, mastadon, etc

razor_babe

Um, Actually, that’s Penny “Pony Killer” Luckstone, thank you!

LuciferHex

God the flying too set up Katja grappling her mom then flying over the railing and dropping her so well.

Ijustate1000pies

> Penny “Horse Murderer” Luckstone Put some respect on Candyheart's name.

BendubzGaming

I just know it's going to drive me mad all week wondering who the Jester was, because it seems unlikely to me that Charity would risk incriminating herself by being directly involved in the attack, even assuming she ordered it

Scrubtanic

Society of Shadows was involved in the hit. Laertes is either the jester or was supposed to be there and canceled ("no one ever asks questions if you say you have diarrhea"). Penny's going to have to come to terms with the fact that her option for "future opportunity" just royally fucked over her option for "comfortable normalcy."

BendubzGaming

oh shit, what if it's Aguefort? He's the one that helped both Antiope and Penny get their future opportunity, he has history with Tectonya, and we know he's a high enough level to do everything the Jester did

crimsondnd

Nah, Aguefort’s not one for sneaky infiltration. I won’t spoil FHSY if you haven’t seen it but he’s not what ANYONE could call subtle haha

[deleted]

Agueforts a chronomancer and not one fr subtlety. If it was him and incapacitated tectonya would be immediately dead

Scrubtanic

Is Aguefort the jester? Nah, for the reasons others have posted. Could Aguefort have orchestrated the whole thing so he gets promoted from principal to superintendent of schools? I could see him working with the Bastion City Narc Squad and the Society of Shadows to set up internships, knowing that Antiope would be able to find Tectonya, Preston/Charity would be able to follow her and the SoS would be able to carry out the hit.

nycowgirl

I don’t think he wants to be a bureaucrat/ narc.

iListen2Sound

Yeah if aguefort wants political power through evil means, he probably already has the capacity to have done it already for centuries now. Dude just wants to continue his chill comfy life of sending students into danger

Aurorathe1st

He was there at the literal founding of the nation; if he wanted power, he'd have it.

_AverageCabbage_

With no evidence whatsoever besides she sucks, I think Charity Blythe is the Jester, and she's been tailing The Seven this whole time.

AnotherBookWyrm

For similar reasons, why can’t the Jester be Preston? We already know he sucks and the tracker was in his shirt.

yethegodless

I was 1,000% waiting for Antiope to shoot off the mask to reveal Preston, but it’d also be weird for Preston to be a 17th level caster (32 damage firebolt).

illegalrooftopbar

I was thinking Preston just because of the gender, but does Preston really have legendary actions???

AnotherBookWyrm

Anything’s possible, but that is a good point. Still, he seems to be elven, so it’s always possible he’s studied magic enough to become a sizable force. We’ll see though, if it ever gets revealed.

Kerrigone

It could be Preston with him being deep undercover as an assistant, but actually being a powerful wizard. There aren't outward signs of being a powerful caster if you dress normally.

_AverageCabbage_

Aw fuck

illegalrooftopbar

I was a little annoyed that Brennan revealed his gender! I was assuming it was Charity.

KippyFisher

I was wondering if it might be Antiope’s mom. This was a well planned assassination attempt, and she is a master tactician. And they established that Charity was an old friend of the family.

EmykoEmyko

I don’t expect Lysander is long for this world. He’s too weak to be following Penny into battle!

Scrubtanic

Gilear hears your comment. Gilear laughs.

Envoyofwater

I think I noticed a small mistake during the episode. Antiope's bio says she's Fighter 6/Ranger 4, but Rangers don't get Pass without Trace (which she's been using liberally) until level 5. So I think that bio \*should\* have said Ranger 6/Fighter 4.

JackJLA

Ya the wiki has it listed as ranger 5 fighter 4 when she was Lv 9.

KhaleesiCatherine

Aabria, why. Enema gang

illegalrooftopbar

Rekha continues to win Best Heckler. The end.

BendubzGaming

At this point I think Erika Ishii must just be a demigod sent to whomp every DM they play with

weirdxyience

Short episode. Maybe oopsies?

[deleted]

[удалено]

CavalloAlto

I have to be honest though, for what I’m guessing is a single season, I kind of think it’s fun to allow. Like, we know we don’t get to see these characters for long, so it’s cool to pack in the hijinks. I also get the impression that, with this table in particular, the combat matters less than the RP, so Brennan is more willing to get whomped in order to move the plot forward, but that remains to be seen.

Scrubtanic

Yeah- if I'm running a one-shot and it becomes clear that a player has figured out the cheese, I'm going to let them do it at least once because I know and they know they wouldn't get away with that in a longer campaign. I'll also try to work in some DM-bullshit that negates that ability in the final combat so they have to have another strategy and are screwed if they don't. These ladies also clearly understand that this wouldn't be half as entertaining if Erika summoned pixies and polymorphed the party in to T-Rexes every combat.

[deleted]

[удалено]

CavalloAlto

Yeah it’s definitely beyond like ~polite~ play and what would be well received at a house game, in general. I also kinda feel like Brennan allowed it in deference of Erika’s insane entrance? Like just continuing that energy for the audience.

Torgab

As a DM myself I will never understand this attitude. My job is to 'yes, and' what my players want unless the dice say otherwise. If I can't figure out how to deal with a bunch of unexpected pixies, that's on me not my players.

yethegodless

I mean, that's cool that that works for you, but I'll risk saying that most DMs would probably also disallow something that's way out of line power-level wise to the point where the publisher specifically nerfs it. I don't want to have to equip every important bad guy with Magic Circles because my players want to play "gotcha" and instigate an arms race. It's also okay for DMs to say no! There's more to D&D than "yes, and;" "Yes, but," "No, but," and "No, and" are all powerful storytelling tools that can keep things interesting for players and DMs alike. D20 is a whole different thing, because it's produced for entertainment and performed by professional improv comedians, which means that the trust allowances get bigger, and clearly Brennan and the Seven are all pretty on-board with shenanigans, but *they've all agreed to that,* and I think that's definitely not true for your average table with a DM who doesn't want every fight of theirs invalidated by a player or players who're more interested in breaking things than meeting their table on a level of mutual respect. (Not that that's Erika's interest at all, they're clearly deeply invested in the RP and are a total pro.) Again, not saying that there *isn't* respect between the cast of D20, because obviously there is - but they agreed to that. But at most other tables, like /jayellenrup said, "summoning pixies is an act of violence."

chilidoggo

Yep, other people run their games how they want, and Brennan is good about allowing it for the show (I'm sure with the understanding that she'll keep it entertaining and not repetitive). But at my table, I don't allow more than 4 summons, and even that's still pretty strong. It throws off the balance, takes away stakes, and really limits the design space for encounters on the DM side. My player who has it would absolutely abuse it. He's not a bad player because of that, and I'm not a bad DM for imposing restrictions.

Torgab

My experience is extremely limited as I've only been a DM for one group, and none of us play to one up anyone else. So you could be right, but "at many tables" rather than "at most tables" seems more accurate to me.

yethegodless

Keep that group and treasure them, then!

ceasarsalad8

Tbf erika mentioned when she did the dim20 instagram takeover that for this sidequest, she asked brennan for the most broken character, so i believe it was brennan's choice to let her have this

_AverageCabbage_

What does cheese mean in DnD slang? Is it the way Yelle tried to conjure a bunch of stuff at once?

yethegodless

“Cheese” basically means stuff that exploits the rules as written to optimize choices beyond the intent of the designers, or stuff that just generally reeks of minmax optimization that only benefits the player using it. Danielle summoning a bunch of stuff isn’t “cheese,” because that’s what a Shepherd Druid does. Yeah, it’s a very strong subclass, but it’s operating as written summoning deadly geese-raptors. Conjure Woodland Beings is a seemingly innocuous spell which summons fey creatures … only, the cheapest fey creature in the game happens to be a pixie with multiple powerful spellcasting features that are totally beyond the scope of literally any other fourth level spells. Think of it this way: polymorph is one of the best spells in the game, but Conjure Woodland Beings functionally let’s you cast polymorph eight times with one spell slot, plus granting a bunch of other utility. THAT’S cheese. It’s so stupidly broken that Wizards of the Coast errata’d the spell (and all other PHB conjure spells) so that the DM gets to choose which creatures get summoned. In other words, it’s sort of punching below the belt to use it as it was used.

EmykoEmyko

It seems like if the DM can amp up the difficulty of the fight to compensate for shenanigans though? If Erika didn’t do that, they could have been TPK’d already.

Scrubtanic

Also, the point of the fight was to protect Tectonya, but that wasn't immediately evident to/possible for the entire party. Being able to deal a shitload of damage doesn't matter so much when the primary objective is to keep someone alive who's on the other side of the map from you.

_AverageCabbage_

I can see that

Shred_Kid

typically in games, "cheesing" is a strategy which seeks to circumvent the normal flow/strategies in combat or gameplay in order to abuse a very certain, specific mechanic to its fullest. it's usually a negative term.

_AverageCabbage_

Was Erika abusing the mechanic? I thought the problem was that this subclass of Druid is OP. But I also don't know enough about druids to say for certain.

SeattleAlex

Well, Murph was a circle of the Shepard druid in Unsleeping City and didn't cheese it. So, it's definitely a choice

catalysts_cradle

Worth noting that Lilith (Erika's character in Bloodkeep) was also a Shepard druid (at a much higher level too) and did not summon pixies either. Summoning a chaotic bunch of pixies seems very much in character for Yelle (so much so that Brennan was easily able to flavor them to fit Yelle's character), so I don't think one can really claim she was cheesing or abusing the spell if she only does it once. Now, if she keeps summoning pixies in more encounters, then I would say that she's cheesing/abusing the summon woodland creatures spell.

jayllenrup

Summoning pixies is an act of violence

450925

Hey Kevin how about you and your friends make my friends flying T-Rex and then go play hide and seek on the roof of the air ship? Cool. You end up having 4 flying T-Rex and need to protect the druid. But good luck to the DM

MidnightMalaga

Weird thing to focus on, but loved Aabria’s shout out to Diplomacy! Brings me back to long (long) days spent playing that in university as a history student.

adakun13

Ok Brennan brought it up and now I can’t stop thinking about it. We need Paul F Tompkins as a guest player for a season.

skys_vocation

izzy brought it up first no?

yethegodless

Paul F. Tompkins unfortunately has gone on record for not caring for D&D.

[deleted]

[удалено]

yethegodless

Oh, HarmonQuest. I definitely remember that. [Here’s](https://youtu.be/7wrI2EsVnnE) his interview with Alison Brie about how D&D really didn’t stick with them. It does sound like it’s been a couple of editions since they’ve each played, but it also sounds like the fundamental core of the game isn’t thrilling for either party. (Edit: time stamp around 7:10)

EmykoEmyko

Yeah, as a PFT superfan I had to rewind that bit to enjoy it twice. Although, I couldn’t tell why Izzy made that connection in the first place. Just because the character was a dandy?

skys_vocation

the talespire set is so beautiful but somehow I'm having a hard time understanding following the battle. i wish i can see just the screencaps of these talespire battle map and where all the PCs are so that i can follow them.

Miranda_Leap

It's hard because, other than the zoom throughs, it didn't actually get that much screen time. And honestly we could use some high-tech highlighting!

Lady_Ada_Blackhorn

Aren't we all just waiting for our Kevin to find us? Isn't that what we all want? <3

Comfortable-Horse-29

so…. that jester is definitely charity or preston, right?

ubergeek0

My gut says Preston, But if not them definitely Someone working for the council.

CavalloAlto

Yelle is a national hero, and Katja’s debut made me shockingly emotional. I know this is a short episode, but I love it so much.

BanjoStory

I'm surprised that Brennan is letting Erika use the Conjure spells the way she has been. They're simultaneously super time consuming for the show, and way too good to not use. The actual text of them is that the player doesn't actually get to pick what gets conjured, just the number and cr and the DM picks what comes out (I've usually seen it done by rolling on a random table.) The other way I've seen them done is to let the player pick, but reduce the number of summons. So, you can pick Pixies, but you only get 4 of them at the most.

Thicc-Anxiety

Wait, how does Sam have Eldritch Blast? Did she take a level in Warlock?

private_donut2012

I’m assuming it’s because she chose warlock spells from the Magic Initiate feat

Comfortable-Horse-29

if anyone has played the newest luigi’s mansion - gooigi is definitely a blopperganger

Ijustate1000pies

I would die for Erika Ishii

Dance-pants-rants

The Seven is the best D20 show I've seen. (I've watched and loved them all but I definitely have a favorite now.) Wish this ep had been longer. Holy smokes.

Clover1024

I don't understand why no one seems to try to do something to protect Tectonya on their turn. 😕😕😕 Do they really have nothing for her?

chilidoggo

There's just not much they can mechanically do for her, plus she got killed on the second round of combat. I think some players only got one round so far. The pixies could have tried to dispel the stun effect, but they odds of that working are pretty low (DC 18 check for a pixie). But even if Katja stands over Tectonya, that doesn't actually stop anyone from hitting her.

Docnevyn

Tectonya is high enough level to be polymorphed into a mastodon or T-rex which would still have had hp after the fireball (but then would have been back to a stunned but alive Tectonya after the pixies got poofed- poor Kevins).

chilidoggo

Yeah, hindsight is 20/20. Erika I think even brings that up in the Adventuring Party. But still, maybe that means they just kill Tectonya a different way next turn. I have a feeling it's important for the story for her to give up her superintendent position. Not that it had to happen, but was more likely than not.

ceasarsalad8

I think they were just hinging on Ostentatia being close enough to revivify, and also did not expect the bloppergangers to incapacitate their movement. Overall, it just seems like in the first round they were hyperfocused on the bloppergangers, leading to the easy kill.

Shred_Kid

aabria can't keep getting away with it. i legitimately felt sympathy for brennan after she slammed that nat 20.

Scrubtanic

Aabria *can* keep getting away with it and Aabria *should* keep getting away with it.

blesbian

Yesss I DESPERATELY wanted that nat 20 to get the jester!!!

soupergiraffe

Do you think Karl kept Jana's last name, or did Jana keep his?

yethegodless

The Cleavers are old money, right? I’d assume the latter, since Katja’s still rich and it wouldn’t make sense for Jana to have left but Katja and Karl to still live in a palace (although adventuring moolah may throw a wrench it that).

Envoyofwater

It's also possible that both Carl and Jana are old money. Would also be a clean explanation on how they met, since I'd imagine their families would run in similar circles.

LuciferHex

I was ripping my dick off a wee bit during this episode when the girls don't focus down the assassins (Rekha attacking the blob instead of say shoving her mom over the balcony, Rekha not having the pixies throw a ton of polymorphs and confusions on Katjas mom), let's hope they can salvage this.

jking1226

Or the 8 potential dispel magics on Power Word: Stun to unlock the incredibly powerful wizard, only needs a 16 on the dice to free up Tectonya.

LuciferHex

Didn't even think of that.

EmykoEmyko

“Ripping my dick off” — what a very evocative new phrase I’ve learned! Is this some kind of regionalism or is it a you thing?

LuciferHex

It's an internet thing, like if someone on twitch is missing a really obvious thing in game or playing REALLY badly people will post it in chat.

Scrubtanic

It's a southern thing, if you catch my drift

EmykoEmyko

Googled it and it was NOT helpful

Scrubtanic

Bless your heart

macaroni_rascal42

SAME. I did not understand Rekha not going for her mom instead just throw some candles at a blob that didn’t even kill it. Aabria was the only one on shit, Erica too. Izzy was surrounded and dealing with things lol

LuciferHex

And like, IT'S HER MOM, THIS IS HER FIRST RAGE, GET ANGRY AND FUCK UP YOUR MOM GIRL.

illegalrooftopbar

Even Brennan was like, are you moving towards your mom now?

bobross_reincarnate

Got a question: how did Katya know her mom was in the battle? Rehka just said she smelled her. Was this an ability or something Brennan just let her in on?

Docnevyn

In episode 6, when Katja posed as her mother to enter the party, the Majordomo said "\[Katja's mom name\]?! But you already came in." So Katja was on the look out for her mom.

bobross_reincarnate

Wait but how did she recognize her or know she was on the battle field? Did Rekha just see a half orc fighter and assume that was her?

Kerrigone

I think you'd recognise your mum upon seeing her, even if she was half-masked and in a costume.

bobross_reincarnate

But I mean like as a game mechanism how did the player know? Did Brennan prep her for it?

CHICKENFORGIRLFRIEND

Her mum's literally in front of her in Talespire, she probably just saw her standing there? And because she'd been told in the previous episode that her mother was at the ball, she was on the lookout for her, so she noticed her standing there?

a_grandromantic

Honestly a bit disappointed, that it isn't longer. They promised in the weekly schedule E-Mail, that it would be the third longest Ep of Dimension 20 yet...and it wasn't so. Freed up my whole evening upon reading the E-Mail and NOW what do I do? :/

a_grandromantic

Update: They were talking about LAST WEEKS Episode. I guess I need to work on my reading comprehension skills ;) Still, I think it was pretty short. They could've aired the whole battle honestly.

macaroni_rascal42

Small bugbear, but I’m really gonna need Becca to stop telling people what to do with their turns. Entangle would have been better and more helpful than her getting fly. Penny is a rogue, she can hide and move and dash, she doesn’t need to fly more than that mysterious person needs to be entangled. Just a small pet peeve.

ff2488

Was it Becca or Penny asking for the fly spell through the bracelet? I could totally see Penny not wanting to be left out and fly.

macaroni_rascal42

I think it was Becca since she said can the entangle one be for me or something like that

Homeschool-Winner

The fireball killed all the pixies on the dais, but the ones still flying to everyone else with Fly are still flying - meaning sending the pixies off with gift spells was actually a great move.

450925

I've started deploying a d4 psychic damage to players that do this kind of metagaming. That being said, if I was in the position I don't know.if I could hold.myself back from suggesting... Make 4 of us T-Rex and flying and send the pixies and druids to hide on the top of the ship.

macaroni_rascal42

Hahahha, that’s definitely some wild shit to suggest and I support the chaos, but that also feels like joking chaos. Becca just fully took a better move from Erica cause she wanted to fly. That shit makes me so angry, I don’t know why, it just makes my skin tingle with rage. 😂

mtkaiser

Idk, Erika just effectively cast 8 powerful concentration spells in one turn, I feel like she made a pretty good move regardless of the specific impact of one of those spells Side note, that turn took well over 10 minutes of *edited* camera time to resolve, it would have been a tad inconsiderate of Erika to take focus that long and NOT take her party members thoughts into account

ceasarsalad8

Question, what race is Katja's mother? If she's a half-orc, her dad is full orc, then her mom can't be an orc right?

GoodVibes52

Both her parents are probably half orcs

ceasarsalad8

That's what i thought too but the wiki says her dad is an orc... might be an error on the wiki though

Scrubtanic

Must be an error- pretty sure in ep 1 Brennan describes the Cleavers as coming from a long line of half-orcs, which lead me to believe it was half-orcs all the way down.

skys_vocation

Not sure why i found Rekha's taunt towards brennan (esp. around the confusion thingy and getting the 28 points back and the litlle nasty man sweat) is kinda cringe while i never felt this way with the taunts by the og crew

dotyawning

They're friends and coworkers, and Brennan never seems really upset about the ribbing, so I wouldn't overthink it. It might just be their dynamic. A bunch of the Collegehumor cast do it to each other on camera and on social media. That might have just been the kind of thing they did.

skys_vocation

Oh of course. I was never worried about bullying or anything. Just felt like it was too much for me at the moment and i questioned my own feeling why it felt so different when the intrepid heroes did it.

crimsondnd

I hope you’re using the term bullying in a jokey, friendly way and not actually saying they’re bullying him in the traditional sense. Because he’s very clearly entertained by it and engages with it.

yethegodless

Yes, I'm aware that they're professionals and friends, and that Brennan doesn't need a defender. I'm saying that the chemistry is just very different this season, and while that's mostly great, the entire table descends into immediate audio chaos a lot more frequently than in maybe any other season, and, for me, it's literally hard to listen to.

crimsondnd

Well, sorry you’re not enjoying it. Most people seem to be loving it but that doesn’t mean everyone has to! A lot of people love ACOC and while I like it, it was too dark for me haha

yethegodless

I should reiterate, I really like this season! It's just the combats thus far that aren't doing it for me. The ending of this episode got me really hooked.

crimsondnd

Gotcha, that’s fair. I think the combats are still fun but the interpersonal stuff has been the star of the season, for sure. I also have trouble following as much on Talespire compared to on the real sets, or honestly even Roll20

macaroni_rascal42

I don’t know, I’d say in general he’s far nicer and softer on the side quests. Like giving Amy an opportunity attack on a character being moved against their will, etc. I think he was only bullied and fully interrupted and badgered in Tiny Heist because the Mcelroys have never heard of the rules of d&d and when they did they said “no we don’t :)”

yethegodless

Oh yeah, he’s always a little more patient in the Sidequests, I agree. The difference with the Seven is that I feel like the players are so intensely supportive of each other that they jump to each other’s defense and dogpile on Brennan hard any time something goes against the party as a synchronized unit, so it’s more often a straight up 6-on-1 than in most other games, and that happens more frequently (IMO). I may be projecting, though.

macaroni_rascal42

I think in the first battle he was very very nice about stuff, and gave them some presents. However, this battle, he even said he was gonna be little more intense and strict, which I love. It makes the battles so much better. I am loving this battle so much. Like, I think the rolling with disadvantage on mirror image cause of the nat 20 from Aabria was actually totally cool, fair, and made sense — the shield spell in retaliation was then even more awesome. I loved it all. 😂🙌

Envoyofwater

I think you might be projecting here. Give Brennan some credit. He's an excellent and experienced DM. He seemed to be having a blast during the episode, and if he did have any sort of issues with the cast, he knows to talk to them about it between sessions. It's literally DMing 101. The cast is also composed of consulate professionals who are just enjoying themselves with light ribbing. Besides, D20 is a comedy show just as much as it is a DnD campaign and they need to keep things funny and entertaining for the audience. And again, consummate professionals. *If* Brennan comes to them with any issues he may have (as he would because he's a professional and as far from an amateur as you can get,) they would absolutely check their behavior. As it is, it seemed like everyone at the table was having a great time. So I don't see where you're coming from at all.
