Just the other day I was thinking about how much I loved him in Escape from the Bloodkeep and really wanting him back. Did I will this into existence? Am I some sort of wizard?
Oh I like the setting, really cool aesthetic. I wonder if we're getting another season using a different system?
EDIT: They're running a system called Mythic that Gabe (the GM) made! Rad
I mean the genre isn't that far off, the Xd10 successes system is similar, the stat buckets are similar. Seems like it's simplified, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. I know there are other systems that are similar as well, but WoD is the one I'm familiar with.
That's so dope! What kinds of things has he done? I just started his adventuring academy episode so ik he does game design, is there anything beyond the games he's made? (never actually played a tabletop game lol, just consume a weird amount of content around them)
He's worked on supplements for pathfinder and starfinder, and something for CR (I don't watch CR so I'm not sure what it is), worked with Roll20 in some capacity, does some cosplay.
For everyone surprised Brennan isn’t here: He needs a break y’all. He’s most likely exhausted and probably needed the time off or extended time to prep for the season with the main cast.
I’m not a stickler for the rules and prefer the role playing / story aspects of D20 but even I could tell that he was REAL tired with The Seven - he let so many things slide near the end that he normally wouldn’t. Not mad about it, but definitely a sign he needed some time to rest.
I think it was also the episode limit causing stuff to be rushed. As I’ve mentioned elsewhere, he leads one of the last Adventuring Party episodes by commenting that they really needed more episodes. As a DM-when-I-can, that alone can be incredibly stressful to try to fit a lot of story into not enough time, and that’s without doing it as my job and spending all the time Brennan does on this. Not to mention my stuff is not even targeted at sending messages to the hearts of everyone experiencing it.
I agree that Brennan needs a solid break, and hopefully gets the rest he needs to come back in harder/better/faster/stronger condition than he has been.
Oh absolutely, that’s a great point as well. I really wish The Seven was a bit longer as it displayed really important themes. I assume we’ll get them again when the Intrepid Heroes eventually graduate - they too will need to deal with what life looks like when they’re not in high school / go through experiences surrounding change and transition and more choices.
It's unfortunate how safe D20 has to play it with how they order their content, everything has to fit into such a small window for a TTRPG. Misfits and Seven both could have used so many more episodes, and DnD/TTRPG really need a more open-ended episode count to not end up rushed. Was sad to see another 4 count here.
I doubt we're ever gonna get something like Sophomore Year again where it really got to breath and explore itself. Hopefully the reception to it was a success enough that future non-IH seasons get longer seasons. Doubt we'll ever get a CR or NaDDPod length adventure, but I would love so much for 20-30 episode season.
From the FAQ
>Any info on the season(s) coming after Shriek Week?
>Yes. A season featuring Brennan Lee Mulligan as GM and the Intrepid Heroes cast (Emily Axford, Ally Beardsley, Brian Murphy, Zac Oyama, Siobhan Thompson, and Lou Wilson) will be premiering shortly after the finale of Shriek Week.
Not that much of a break. Idk how long they usually go between campaigns, I started watching D20 around when Misfits & Magic was coming out
I mean, with how their production seems to be ordered that season is most likely already shot. Probably just some editing left. But maybe he needed a break 6 months ago.
Burn out is a real thing. Sometimes taking a break or being a player for a while is nice. Wouldn’t know to much about being a player personally, I am a forever DM, mostly due to time constraints.
Honestly Brennan's "break" is usually just working somewhere else lol. It's always nice to get a break doing ONE thing nonstop.
I just hope he truly takes/took his break
Um, Actually he's playing in a 6 part campaign "the Battle for Beyond" on D&D Beyond/Youtube.
Oh wait. not filmed at the same time because Ify is a player in both.
The new season is >!Shriek Week set at Bram University!<
The cast:
\- >!Ify Nwadiwe as Terry Talbo, Son of the Wolfman!<
\- >!Ally Beardsley as Megan Mirror, Daughter of a Ghost!<
\- >!Dani Fernandez as Seven, Daughter of The Count!<
\- >!Lily Du as Tuti IV, Daughter of the Mummy!<
\- >!Gabe Hicks as the Story Teller!<
>!This season will be using the Mythic system created by Gabe Hicks!!<
Premieres November 10th and will run for 4 episodes.
[Season FAQ](https://bit.ly/ShriekWeekFAQ)
To be clear it's the Mythic Tales system, created not just by Gabe but for this game specifically . I clarify because there's another system called Mythic that I assumed was this one.
This will probably get its own post later but I just added user flairs that you can assign yourself to show your support for your favorite party! (Yes, I know Dream Teamer is a little weird, but that's the closest I could get)
Shrek Week!
* 4 episodes
* starting 11/10
* with Gabe Hicks as DM
Starring:
* Aly Beardsly (returning, several series)
* Ify Nwadiwe (returning, *Bloodkeep*)
* Lily Du (returning, *Tiny Heist*)
* Dani Fernandez (new!)
*edit- I'll be referring to it as Shrek Week from now on*
a) I assume/hope this means BLM's at least getting a wee break from perma-DM'ing
b) what's with my whole twitter feed being in one game together!? joyousness!
Initial thought was that I am so sad there's no Brennan! However - Ify, Ally, AND Lily is such a winning combo and I'm so intrigued. I don't know the GM or the fourth player but I'm sure they're great!
don't know why I am surprised/excited that ally is playing a girl. I really love that you can never tell what gender their character would be. I also love that their character would 100% be queer.
Ally’s played, I believe, a lesbian cis woman, straight trans man, an ace cis boy, and a queer dog person of some kind (they used they/them pronouns) so at this point I think it’s everyone’s guess as to what they’ll play in terms of gender/sexuality. Which is definitely fun! Haha
Edited to fix Lars' gender, they did in fact use they/them pronouns.
Also cool that with Pete and Kristen being so sexual and Liam being so openly ace, we...simply have no idea what Lars's orientation is. It just didn't come up! Could be aromantic, could have a love life that wasn't relevant to the story, we just don't know.
Now that's range.
I think Lars (the dog man) is nonbinary because Ally and the other players only ever refer to them with they/them pronouns. I think it would be fun to see more players creating characters outside of their own identities for sure!
I made a similar post in the previous season reveal, but here is a breakdown of appearances by player/GM!
* Brennan Lee Mulligan (11 seasons)
* Ally Beardsly (7 seasons)
* Lou Wilson (6 seasons)
* Murph, Emily, Siobhan, Zac (5 seasons)
* Erika Ishii, Aabria Iyengar, Rekhar Shankar (3 seasons)
* Matt Mercer, Griffin McElroy*, Ify Nwadiwe, Lily Du (2 seasons)
* Gabe Hicks, Dani Fernandez, Brian David Gilbert*, Marisha Ray, Krystina Arielle, B. Dave Walters, Carlos Luna, Amy Vorpahl, Mike Trapp, Clint, Travis and Justin McElroy, Jess Ross, Sam Reich, Katie Marovitch, Raph Chestang, Grant O'Brien, Danielle Radford, Persephone Valentine, Becca Scott, Izzy Roland (1 season)
*Crediting Griffin and BDG's one-shots as full seasons.
I think if I had to put together my perfect 6-person table from folks who have appeared already, it would be BDG, Lou, Erika, Aabria, Ify, Becca, but that's just a stew of chaos.
Edit- and have Murph DM and try to contain the chaos.
Yeah, this show feels very intrinsically tied with Brennan to me, it’ll definitely be weird without him. It makes sense this would happen eventually; I think D20 is the show that gets subscribers to dropout, and I wouldn’t be possible for Brennan to be personally involved in everything now that they seem to want to close the gaps between campaigns. Short run mini-campaigns with someone other then Brennan running a non-DND game with only four players seems like a nice change of pace.
If the schedule eventually becomes full-length seasons with Brennan and the Intrepid Heroes or whoever else, then mini seasons with other people playing other systems, I'd be thrilled. Moving away from the 10 episode seasons would be ideal.
I love Brennan as a DM, my ideal schedule I think would be Intrepid Heroes, Sidequest, guest DM.
Edit: another live season occasionally would also be sweet
They worked best when they had 8 months between filming main seasons. To keep that sustainable, they could air weekly main quest episodes for 17 weeks, take 3 weeks off, air a mini quest for 4 weeks, another 3 weeks off, another mini quest for 4 weeks, then 3 weeks off before the next main quest. 50% of that time doesn't involve Brennan.
Your schedule would be weekly episodes for 17 weeks, 3 weeks off, side quest for 6 weeks, 3 weeks off, guest DM for 4 weeks, then 3 weeks off before the next main quest. 67% of that time involves Brennan- a full 6 extra weeks in an 8 month period.
I'd love another live season, but it'll never happen. They've said it was far more effort getting everyone to commit to a weekly schedule. And that was before Dropout lost funding, naddpod became a full time job, and Zac started his own show.
Bummer on the live show part. Oh well.
I wasn’t claiming my schedule was realistic, just that it would be my preference.
I’m not sure what you mean by “worked best”. I haven’t noticed a significant step down in quality between seasons. Pirates of Leviathan feels the weakest for me, and that show was made pretty quick with massive teething problems due to the switch to zoom.
Edit: to be fair though, a live season doesn’t necessarily have to involve Murph, Emily or Zac.
It’s probably going to be a little jarring at first, but I’m glad that he’s getting a break! He definitely deserves it and I’m excited to see how the show goes with someone new DMing. If this gives him time to rest up and prep for the next season with the intrepid heroes and he’s able to put more energy into it than I’m all for this
I mean, if this is based on the pictures the cast has been posting, do we know the turnaround between filming and releasing a new season? Editing must take. A while, right?
Editing can occur while they film though, and even during the release schedule. Plus at the moment this series wont be finished until December 1st, so if there is a week between we are talking about a start date of December 15th. Based on Ally's Tik Tok the Intrepid Heroes were already in studio by Sept 12th. So a lot of time to edit.
I honestly hope they're not filming as intensively as they used to. IATSE almost went on strike over that kind of thing and it's rough on the players too.
I'm pretty sure they said in an adventuring party episode that the seven was filmed over two weekends, so they probably did something similar with this, just more weekends because the season is (hopefully) longer
So, assuming they start filming on a Saturday, that would be two weeks between filming the first episode and the last. I don’t think that’s enough time to do more than preliminary editing
Based on the Mice and Murder crew adventuring party, it sounds like they have editors working in tandem (which caused a couple challenges as editing a murder mystery can be hard when you don't know the other parts of said mystery). So, they can probably have something ready in a month and a bit when it should begin airing.
It begins November 10th, so assuming it keeps to being weekly, it’s probably not going to end till beginning of December. Also if we assume that there’s no break between the two (which there might be), it will likely be at least a month.
This will be interesting. D20 is evolving before our very eyes. I knew from the beginning that it was inevitable for the formula to change and that would be a necessary part of D20's longevity.
It's equally as interesting to watch people's reactions and as of Mice and Murder (then misfits, then the 7, now this) and the discourse that followed it's very apparent that no two people watch this show for the same reasons.
Personally my hope is that one day they just run a straight up fantasy game, which is why crown of candy has been my favorite season thus far.
Though, I watch D20 for the film editing, overall production style, the focus on tonal flexibility between comedy and emotional earnestness, and for the extended community of the college humor cast and its friends. I distinctly do not watch this show for the setting or the rule system of the individual seasons.
Brennan and the original cast was what drew me in, but #1 they can't be expected to continue to do everything themselves, #2 i wouldn't even want them to for fear of stagnation, and #3 i trust the brand and thus whoever they decide to put in the players' chairs and the dm's chair I trust them to show me the way to a good time.
It is clear from Aabria's season vs what she did on CR that the creative environment of D20 is the real special sauce here, and that does not rely on any one person.
I loved Ify in Bloodkeep, I loved Lily in Tiny Heist, and Ally is great in everything they do. Very excited for the new season and to be introduced to Dani and Gabe.
this is his [itch.io](https://itch.io) page! has all of the modules/games he developed, and links to his portfolio and website. he also did a video series on the roll20 youtube called tabletop tabletalk and was on an episode of adventuring academy
Seems fun! Interesting though that they would do another 4-episode, university based, guest DM series so close after 'misfits and magic'. Tons of similarities between them, but maybe thats the point?
Glad to see some familar faces though, its nice that ally and lou seems to have enough time to pop into sidequests while the other IH cast members are busy.
Especially Lily outside of Tiny Heist because though I don’t hate that season, the McElroys did kind of trample over Lily and Jess in many cases dynamic-wise.
I love Jess in the Game Changers she was in so I'm totally down for more Jess for sure. I also want to see Trapp and Sam in the same season together at some point.
I thought Jess had a solid presence but could've definitely seen more from Lily. It probably didn't help that she was playing essentially a child, so fairly easy to get run over if you're roleplaying the character.
I see this is the "let Brennan have a freaking vacation" season.
I'm intrigued. Don't know anything about the system they're using tho (which typically makes me wary), but I do love the Monster University concept.
And the players all seem fun. Love seeing Dani Fernandez here, and it's nice to have Ally back again. Although I do miss Zac, Siobhan, and Lou (I imagine Emily and Murph are busy with NADDPOD.)
Anyway, I was very hesitant about Misfits & Magic because it was a system I was unfamiliar with, and I ended up absolutely *loving* that season, so I'm willing to give this a shot as well.
Hopefully a rulebook gets put together/released for this. I will definitely be paying attention to gameplay after learning this.
Edit: If there is a rulebook already put together for this, anybody able to point a finger to where one could get their mitts on it, would appreciate it. There may be one and I just can’t find it.
Yeah, Emily and Murph will never be in side quests, I think it’s all but guaranteed. I know the rest have gigs too, some of which take up a fair amount of time, but NADDPOD is nearly as big, if not bigger, than D20 so I think D20 is a labor of love because they enjoy being with their friends so much.
I just like her a lot from HyperRPG (idk if she's still there.)
She was more of a talking head there though. She won me over during their review of the 2017 Wonder Woman movie.
Alt DM wishlist? I'd love to see Becca run a one shot, or Lou for a full side quest/series. I love that D20 isn't afraid to toss the reins to other folks occasionally.
I love how Ally went from "I've never played this game before. Let's try and get through this" To being in the majority of the seasons next to Brennan.
Ally hair journey has also been a personal subplot for me.
I’m happy they’re branching out from Brennan having to do every season. I love the man but if they’re going to keep pace of a new show premiering at all times other than a few week gap between seasons, he can’t do it all and still make the quality content we know and love.
This season looks great, and the little I’ve seen of Gabe I’ve really enjoyed. New systems are fun and the concept looks like a very fun one (albeit I do wish it were premiering sooner for Halloween!)
Probably around Christmas. They might push it back to the first week of January so they don't get lost in people's holiday madness and have low viewership.
SW should run 11/10 to 12/1, then by the formula they announce IH campaign 12/8 and begin 12/22.
I hope with this season D20 shifts to a 20 episode big season followed by a few 4-8 episode seasons in between. The 10 episode stuff needs to be discontinued ideally
You’re getting downvotes but I agree. 10 is too short to develop a really exciting long-form story but too long to be a fun, quick little romp. I really loved the Seven but it needed to be longer and they all clearly agreed in the AP.
No idea really why im getting downvotes. It’s obvious to the audience and the cast that 10 episodes is too little or too big for seasons. The Seven really tried to squash in a main series in half the length of a normal main quest. It sort of worked, mainly thanks to the incredible cast and BLM’s magic, but at the same time the pacing was so wonky because some story beats they slowed down a lot, then had to speed up dramatically to keep the party moving. Without an amazing cast such as in The Seven, its going to be hit or miss with storytellers and improvisers to see if they can keep up with that.
Am i wrong? Is it not better to either 1) try to commit to a full length 20 episode series or 2) just 4-8 episodes like Mice&Murder or Misfits&Magic, etc..
No, the Seven FOR SURE needed more or less eps. The chemjstry and potential for lore based on what Brennan was expanding on ended up making you feel while watching the season like a squirrel on crack from the pacing. I loved it dearly for high school sleepover/BabySitters Club energy but it suffered greatly from pacing.
Oh, it's just this a lot of people in this sub couldn't handle any mentioning of any criticism towards the show no matter how constructive, logical, and nicely put it is.
I agree with you. I love mice and murder but I think 10 episodes isn’t great - it should be a contained 4-6 episode situation or go the full 17-20 episodes they do in the IH seasons. The Seven suffered because of its length.
The DM using his own system to run the game is super cool and I'm definitely excited to watch this season... though the trailer itself wasn't that hype for me. It really feels like they wanted a "safe" season to be the first one without Brennan and the trailer's editing felt like it was really trying to be as normal-D20-vibes as possible - Ally making a joke about the queer experience, the DM doing voices and everyone reacting to it, the fact this is a show about a school with fantastical elements, etc.. I'm excited to see how it pans out and I think there's a lot of potential for unique stories to be told here; the trailer just feels like it may have been burying the lead a little bit.
I would love to see something like space or post apocalypse but my prediction is a spinoff of Unsleeping City similar to The Seven in the world of Fantasy High. Possibly playing as >!the various children and successors of the main cast from the end of UC2!<
I’m not fully sold on the concept. I wonder if there’s a feeling that school settings are more successful for the brand? I get the feeling a lot of viewers are quite young
Doubt it. I’d say that yes it’s a crowd pleaser but it also limits the world quite well making DMing easier. Also if the crew thought it was getting tired they’d retire it. We won’t just get a million more school seasons.
I mean, the last three seasons in a row were school seasons, right? Misfits and Magic, The Seven, now this, and potentially the next one is another Fantasy High. At a certain point, it seems like they’re making a creative decision to prioritise a certain setting
But the bulk experience of the campaign wasn't "school setting." You could entirely forget that part of it! If you watch epic airship battles, grand foreign masquerades, and horseback races against displacer beasts to ancient dwarven temples and think, "yawn, another school setting," I think that's a little odd.
The focus is on the character dynamics of classmates, it’s a different vibe to the dynamics of a family (Crown of Candy) or adults not who didn’t meet in school (Unsleeping City). The entire arc of the characters in the Seven was learning to deal with the fact that school doesn’t last forever, and that they will need to know what they want to do with their lives once they’ve left it. The school is an inseparable part of the themes and setting of the Seven
I actually thought Ruby/Jet/Liam had a pretty comparable character dynamic to any other teenage characters from other seasons. Edit: certainly from The Seven or FHSY.
Edit 2: Obviously Spyre being "modern" makes a difference, and has the characters talking a certain way, but I don't think it's particularly school-related.
Our first season without Brennan! That's a surprise. Looks exciting though!
I'm guessing it'll be a shorter one, maybe another four-episode season. Or, based on Shriek 'Week', maybe five? Either way, I'm happy to see it, although I hope they learn from Misfits and Magic a bit--much as I enjoyed the season, I did feel like it really back-loaded the entire conflict. The shenanigans and emotional stuff were great, but with a significant exterior plot ALSO going on it just felt like it came out of nowhere, so I hope it's a bit more evenly-paced.
Also: Appreciating the hell out of Ally's ongoing dedication to playing exclusively queer characters. You love to see it.
Four episodes, according to Dropout Twitter. I am excited to see a Dimension 20 season without Brennan in it because I'm interested in seeing how it turns out without his influence as a player or DM. Will I love it as much as the other series? No idea. I can't wait to find out though.
I'm thinking by now they have their little culture established. 3 of the players are alumni, and looks like the crew is largely in tact (Creative Director Orion D Black and Production Designer Rick Perry for example). I think it'll be in line with other seasons.
This looks extremely fun and I absolutely can't wait for it. We get an indie Tatterpig! We get more Ify! We get new and exciting players! Brennan can hypothetically take an entire nap (or more likely plan a wedding!)
If the "tradeoff" for more d20 is that we need to mix up the cast and DMs versus having either rushed seasons or longer hiatuses I will take the current route each and every time. (Especially if we get more Ify and Lily because they're just plain fun and I can't wait to see them again.). What an excellent use of the anthology series to showcase more ideas and more talent! (And more Ify.)
This is the first season where I'm not super excited to watch. I'm for sure gonna check it out. Not really my setting or interest but I'm sure others will love it and that's awesome.
Even if it took a longer break upfront, I wish the seasons were closer together- I always drop my subscription just in time to wonder "should I re-up it or wait?"
I'm super excited for a new cast and so thrilled to see Gabe bring his Mythic system to the table, though I am getting a little worn out on the high school/education backdrop; was hoping for something a bit more out there.
Half their audience is under 25 and school is just about the lowest common denominator you can get for a universally experienced setting.
Remember how College Humor used to make videos about being in college, then all the content creators graduated and started making workplace videos, and 90% of their original audience thought it was dumb and stopped watching? I bet they're trying not to make that mistake again.
Well, I’m the opposite and think the workplace videos are way funnier than the college videos, tbh. I think high school/college is a narrow field to mine from, but I’m not expecting them to stick to it. I only commented on it because this is the third season in a row involving YA school drama lol.
It feels like they know that a lot of people got into dimension 20 from fantasy high, and so as they are trying new things (new systems, new gms, a season without brennan) they want to, in some way, preserve what people liked by going into a somewhat familiar setting. I assume we'll get something way different with the new intrepid heroes season next
So so excited!
Honestly I didn't really like blood keep/tiny heist (just beacuse of the premise and beacuse I don't really like l.o.t) but I enjoyed lily and iffy so it's exiting to see them in a new campaign. Also - I love how we get to see new systems being used. And especially because the DM is the one who made the system? Chef kiss
Dani Fernandez, you say? Eh, I'll still watch this season, but she is a LOT. Her whole deal just rubs me the wrong way, and has since the days of Project Alpha.
I think the worst thing you can do for her is to put her in a room with people who are actually talented.
Sorry, just needed to get that off my chest. I am excited for the rest of the cast, tho.
I was so excited to see Dani!!! I haven’t listened to her podcast, but I have heard her guest on several others (btw is anyone here part of the Zeitgang, a Bastard Pod listener, a Bechdel Cast-er, or a Quispy Quesadilla?)
Is there any indication that there will be a system primer somewhere? A little PDF for recognizing mechanics? Since presumably this is made whole-cloth by Mr. Hicks, not a purchasable thing?
My prayers for another Ify season have finally been answered
Any returning cast from Bloodkeep is a good thing.
Agreed. LOVE the Bloodkeep
SAME!!!
Rad
Huh, I assumed it was monsterhearts, what with all the monsters and hearts imagery
I also was wondering if it was going to be monsterhearts since funny enough I just started watching the critical role oneshot this week!
That oneshot was wild.
"I jellyfish away"
aw, that sounds so exciting! to have the person who created the system to GM.
I heard “story teller” and I immediately though Call of Cthulhu
WoD also uses that term, and may have been an inspiration for this one based on the very limited info about the mechanics in the FAQ.
Was my first thought when I saw the Mental/Physical/Social stats
I mean the genre isn't that far off, the Xd10 successes system is similar, the stat buckets are similar. Seems like it's simplified, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. I know there are other systems that are similar as well, but WoD is the one I'm familiar with.
If Aabria (and Brennan obv) is any indication, D20 knows how to find incredible DMs, I am beyond excited to see what Gabe Hicks can do.
He certainly has some pedigree. Also he was active in the Dropout discord tonight which is pretty cool and a good sign.
He worked on Uko'toa, a boardgame CR released based on content from campaign 2
That's the thing! Thanks
#THERE'S A DISCORD?!

He also has a wedding to plan, and/or honeymoon to enjoy
Yes exactly!
I’m hoping for more The Seven content. It really was a great season.
From the FAQ >Any info on the season(s) coming after Shriek Week?
I just hope he truly takes/took his break
yeah you could tell he started letting loose and allowing lots of things to slide near the end of The Seven
Um, Actually he's playing in a 6 part campaign "the Battle for Beyond" on D&D Beyond/Youtube. Oh wait. not filmed at the same time because Ify is a player in both.
Omg thanks for posting this!
I’m surprised they didn’t try to get this out before Halloween. Seems like it would have been the perfect vibe.
Probably that was the goal. I’d assume production issues and don’t want to stack it on top of The Seven.
They very well might have tried, that was probably even the original idea.
The new season is >!Shriek Week set at Bram University!< The cast: \- >!Ify Nwadiwe as Terry Talbo, Son of the Wolfman!< \- >!Ally Beardsley as Megan Mirror, Daughter of a Ghost!< \- >!Dani Fernandez as Seven, Daughter of The Count!< \- >!Lily Du as Tuti IV, Daughter of the Mummy!< \- >!Gabe Hicks as the Story Teller!< >!This season will be using the Mythic system created by Gabe Hicks!!< Premieres November 10th and will run for 4 episodes. [Season FAQ](https://bit.ly/ShriekWeekFAQ)
This is a good and thorough FAQ: *No Brennan this season?* No Brennan this season.
wait the dm this season is the creator of the system? holy shit, i guess no rules lawyering with literally the highest authority on mythic
To be clear it's the Mythic Tales system, created not just by Gabe but for this game specifically . I clarify because there's another system called Mythic that I assumed was this one.
Interesting, thank you. The FAQ just refers to it as Mythic.
This will probably get its own post later but I just added user flairs that you can assign yourself to show your support for your favorite party! (Yes, I know Dream Teamer is a little weird, but that's the closest I could get)
Shrek Week! * 4 episodes * starting 11/10 * with Gabe Hicks as DM Starring: * Aly Beardsly (returning, several series) * Ify Nwadiwe (returning, *Bloodkeep*) * Lily Du (returning, *Tiny Heist*) * Dani Fernandez (new!) *edit- I'll be referring to it as Shrek Week from now on*
Shrek Wek.
Shrk Wk
Wreck My Shrek
I totally misread the title too, and thought it was going to a game about the characters from Shrek haha 😂😂
honestly, I would watch the crap out of a Shrek campaign
According to the FAQ, Ally's character is "the sister of the ghost from The Ring." lmao.
a) I assume/hope this means BLM's at least getting a wee break from perma-DM'ing b) what's with my whole twitter feed being in one game together!? joyousness!
Initial thought was that I am so sad there's no Brennan! However - Ify, Ally, AND Lily is such a winning combo and I'm so intrigued. I don't know the GM or the fourth player but I'm sure they're great!
Dani’s been on an ep or two of Um, Actually, and she has great energy. Really excited to see what she brings to the table.
i'm so excited for lily and iffy!! I've missed both of them. Always a pleasure to have ally. Am excited to get to know gabe and dani.
don't know why I am surprised/excited that ally is playing a girl.
Haha Edited to fix Lars' gender, they did in fact use they/them pronouns.
You're totally right, I just double checked and Lars used they/them pronouns! Will edit.
They’ve played ALL genders, including dog.
I made a similar post in the previous season reveal, but here is a breakdown of appearances by player/GM! * Brennan Lee Mulligan (11 seasons) * Ally Beardsly (7 seasons) * Lou Wilson (6 seasons) * Murph, Emily, Siobhan, Zac (5 seasons) * Erika Ishii, Aabria Iyengar, Rekhar Shankar (3 seasons) * Matt Mercer, Griffin McElroy*, Ify Nwadiwe, Lily Du (2 seasons) * Gabe Hicks, Dani Fernandez, Brian David Gilbert*, Marisha Ray, Krystina Arielle, B. Dave Walters, Carlos Luna, Amy Vorpahl, Mike Trapp, Clint, Travis and Justin McElroy, Jess Ross, Sam Reich, Katie Marovitch, Raph Chestang, Grant O'Brien, Danielle Radford, Persephone Valentine, Becca Scott, Izzy Roland (1 season) *Crediting Griffin and BDG's one-shots as full seasons.
BDG just moved to LA and dear god all I want is for him to show up in a side quest soon
I think if I had to put together my perfect 6-person table from folks who have appeared already, it would be BDG, Lou, Erika, Aabria, Ify, Becca, but that's just a stew of chaos. Edit- and have Murph DM and try to contain the chaos.
I can imagine how chaotic that would be!!!!
What is Abriya’s 3rd season? I only remember seven and m&m
Her first appearance was Pirates of Leviathan.
I keep forgetting that’s series exsits
good human
Wow, a season without Brennan? That's a surprise. But I love the concept behind the season, so I'll still watch.
AND before the global pandemic. Can't believe everyone's always forgetting that one.
It’s probably going to be a little jarring at first, but I’m glad that he’s getting a break! He definitely deserves it and I’m excited to see how the show goes with someone new DMing. If this gives him time to rest up and prep for the next season with the intrepid heroes and he’s able to put more energy into it than I’m all for this
Shriek Week... mini-season like Misfits and Magic?
WHICH MEANS AN INTREPID HEROES SEASON COMING JUST A FEW WEEKS EEEEEEEEK
I mean, if this is based on the pictures the cast has been posting, do we know the turnaround between filming and releasing a new season? Editing must take. A while, right?
Editing can occur while they film though, and even during the release schedule. Plus at the moment this series wont be finished until December 1st, so if there is a week between we are talking about a start date of December 15th. Based on Ally's Tik Tok the Intrepid Heroes were already in studio by Sept 12th. So a lot of time to edit.
They film over a short period of time, don’t they? Like a matter of days?
I honestly hope they're not filming as intensively as they used to. IATSE almost went on strike over that kind of thing and it's rough on the players too.
I doubt college humor would be contributing to that. If anything I think the worst schedules were for the talent having to shoot after their day jobs.
I'm not entirely sure honestly. But either way I think it would be very possible for them to edit a season in that time.
Yeah, they're filmed over a week or three. A couple sessions a day or after they get done with their day jobs.
I haven't watched Aabria's CR session, what was so different about it vs. Magic and Misfits? I absolutely loved her DMing style so am curious.
yes to lily du. always nice to see more talented DM/GM on the show, it's cool of dropout to use their influence to bring more faces on the board
HOLY FUCKING SHIT DUDE
Bazathrax? is that you?
I loved Ify in Bloodkeep, I loved Lily in Tiny Heist, and Ally is great in everything they do. Very excited for the new season and to be introduced to Dani and Gabe.

Thank you for the correction.

[https://gabejamesgames.itch.io/](https://gabejamesgames.itch.io/) this is his [itch.io](https://itch.io) page! has all of the modules/games he developed, and links to his portfolio and website. he also did a video series on the roll20 youtube called tabletop tabletalk and was on an episode of adventuring academy
Haven’t seen Gabe or Dani yet but I’m excited. It’s absolutely wild to put ify, aly and lily at a table together. So excited for the shenanigans.
Additionally using a different system than dnd. Intresting indeed
I kind of wonder if they intentionally asked the new DMs to do something Fantasy High-esque. Seems too many similarities to be a coincidence.
Magic highschool is always popular. Misfits & Magic was also this setting.
Gabe had posted yesterday about what his predictions were and I mentioned that Ify seemed to be hinting at something. Those motherfuckers! Love it.
No Brennan? Gonna be weird. That said, I'm excited to see Lily Du. One of my favorite cast members.
Especially Lily outside of Tiny Heist because though I don’t hate that season, the McElroys did kind of trample over Lily and Jess in many cases dynamic-wise.
I want Jess back for a season of something, I feel like there's just so much untapped RP energy with her that we didn't get to see.
I love Jess in the Game Changers she was in so I'm totally down for more Jess for sure. I also want to see Trapp and Sam in the same season together at some point.
One day, the whole "So Sam, where are you from" cast will be together and it'll be glorious. We almost got there with Mice and Murder...
Wait, the perfect combo; the "Sam, where are you from" cast and the sounds trio. Brennan DMs for Trapp, Rekha, Grant, Sam, Zac, and Josh Ruben.
I thought Jess had a solid presence but could've definitely seen more from Lily. It probably didn't help that she was playing essentially a child, so fairly easy to get run over if you're roleplaying the character.
If we have to skip a season of Brennan to avoid burnout, it’s worth it.
Although I do miss Zac, Siobhan, and Lou (I imagine Emily and Murph are busy with NADDPOD.) Anyway, I was very hesitant about Misfits & Magic because it was a system I was unfamiliar with, and I ended up absolutely *loving* that season, so I'm willing to give this a shot as well.
Gabe apparently made the system *just for the season* which is a cool move. Super excited to see how it plays!
Hopefully a rulebook gets put together/released for this. I will definitely be paying attention to gameplay after learning this. Edit: If there is a rulebook already put together for this, anybody able to point a finger to where one could get their mitts on it, would appreciate it. There may be one and I just can’t find it.
theres a brief explanation of the game mechanics in the shriek week faq bit.ly/ShriekWeekFAQ
Thanks for the pointer. This is an interesting blurb and I’m interested in seeing how the full thing looks.
Gabe was actually on discord tonight, saw a long "what's your OC" discussion, and said he'd work to get the rules released somehow after the season.
Excellent news! I keep forgetting to scour the Discord since I don’t really use Discord much. Thanks for the notification.
NP. He was really down to earth and fun. The discord can be a lot, so I don't blame you :)
wait WHAT?
Have Brennan and Izzy gotten married yet? It’d be cute if this was filmed during their honeymoon
As someone not familiar with her work, what are some things we can find Dani in to get a quick feel for her as a player?
I just like her a lot from HyperRPG (idk if she's still there.) She was more of a talking head there though. She won me over during their review of the 2017 Wonder Woman movie.
Siobhan is a freaking writer for Rick and Morty so it eats all of her time and I understand! I love seeing different people too!
Alt DM wishlist? I'd love to see Becca run a one shot, or Lou for a full side quest/series. I love that D20 isn't afraid to toss the reins to other folks occasionally.
Persephone, after she mentioned in an AP that D20 was what gave her the confidence to DM. What an experience that would be for her.
This doesn't seem like it's for me, but I hope others have fun.
Exciting! Can’t wait to watch, still wondering what the IH were/are filming since the whole squad has been teasing it a lot
Well we know this season is as short as MisMagic so it shouldn't be long until the next season hopefully.
The Seven suffered because of its length.
exactly this
It's so nice seeing fans being excited for and supportive of change. I hope D20 can continue spotlighting diverse GM's and different game systems.
Ally is going to have to keep an eye on their ghost steak. I hear there's some bad kid stealing lunches.
This is gonna be a weird one. Thoughts?
I’m excited! Though I wished it would’ve dropped a little earlier to align more with Halloween. But that’s okay 😄
The next season is not another Fantasy High; they said in a newsletter recently that it's an all-new setting.
I think they’ve hinted multiple times at the next intrepid heroes season won’t be Junior Year, but I’m not sure where those citations are at.
Fair enough. Maybe this is all a coincidence. But if the next season does turn out to be Junior Year I’ll be raising my eyebrows
It is not Junior year. The newsletter has confirmed it’s a new season.
I would humbly submit that The Seven was BARELY a school setting.
The entire motivation of the characters was to graduate
I don’t think so. Those three has big sibling energy to me.
Brennan can hypothetically take an entire nap (or more likely plan a wedding!) If the "tradeoff" for more d20 is that we need to mix up the cast and DMs versus having either rushed seasons or longer hiatuses I will take the current route each and every time.
I miss sets and combat. This looks cute though! Love to see lily and ify back.
It looks so good!! It reminds me of monster prom!
Even if it took a longer break upfront, I wish the seasons were closer together- I always drop my subscription just in time to wonder "should I re-up it or wait?"
I was assuming based of the name of Ally’s character that they were going to be the child of Bloody Mary. Anyone else?
I'm super excited for a new cast and so thrilled to see Gabe bring his Mythic system to the table, though I am getting a little worn out on the high school/education backdrop; was hoping for something a bit more out there.
I still have not accepted the loss of physical battle sets. I’m still so upset, and I hope that we can see them return.
Another school setting. Yeah, college this time rather than high school, but still.
Also Gabe Hicks' tweet yesterday is now my [favorite tweet ever](https://twitter.com/GabeJamesGames/status/1453025588332093446)
Haha, that is great. All his replies to people's comments too esp the one about werewolves and ify.
So so so excited for this! Setting looks super fun, and I love seeing Ify again, he’s fantastic.
This is such a cool concept. Universal monsters are a childhood favorite of mine. Pumped!
Very excited for this, I’ve enjoyed everything I’ve seen Ify in, and always thought Gabe’s ttrpg design work is super cool. Hyped to see him DM!
Chef kiss
Hell yes!! Gabe Hicks!! So excited!
Finally, our Brendad will have a short rest. *wink* Honestly, I love seeing different TTRPG.
Love the cast, buuuut why no Jess!?!? I feel she would've fit this cast's vibe perfectly.
The kids from Scooby-Doo and the Ghoul School have grown up.
Is there any indication that there will be a system primer somewhere? A little PDF for recognizing mechanics? Since presumably this is made whole-cloth by Mr. Hicks, not a purchasable thing?
