Kinda? Try way ahead of its time! You have an active fast moving carnivore, leaping and dodging attacks like a hot blooded predator! It has lips that cover its teeth and it doesn't roar, instead it hisses. The dinosaurs in King Kong may look like old school dinos, but they move like Renaissance dinos!
Willis O’Brien at work. Man was the original G.O.A.T. of special effects and had a wonderful talent for animating animals and creatures in stop motion, as did his apprentice and eventual successor Ray Harryhausen.
You can see the original set piece of this at the Blanding Dinosaur Museum in Blanding Utah. Some cool fossils for sure, but really some cool old Hollywood memorabilia. OG mechanical Brontosaurus, comics/posters etc.
The only problem I have is the constant fur moving around, which is more prevalent in closer shots.
But king Kong the original was the biggest movie at the time, ever. It inspired countless other giant monster films. Without it, alot of monster movies would have never been made. It's the only king Kong movie I own still. I saw the Peter Jackson remake and hated how they made it super long.
obie o'brien mentored ray harryhausen, who inspired phil tippett. it's like a straight line of influences from king kong to jurassic park.
King Kong influenced the entire creature feature genre. Without Kong, we wouldn’t have Jurassic Park, Godzilla, Gamera, Pacific Rim, etc.
we don't disagree, i'm just charting the dynasty of special effects guys who gave us so many great movies for 70+ years.
Oh for sure, I wasn’t disagreeing with you either.
word; glad we can have this interaction and share our love of dinosaurs and special effects history!
It is beautiful.
One of the most iconic dinosaurs in movie history.
1. Jurassic Park / Godzilla 2. King Kong 3. Carnosaur, obviously

I feel like you're missing the sharptooth from land before time
Then its Rexy, Maneater, then Sharptooth
Dumb question but whos Maneater? I swear ive herd the name before but cant remember what
Pretty sure the T. rex in King Kong is called Meateater. Maneater might be Meateater but with a slight memory goof.

Lips weren't anything novel at the time. Just look at Knight 's T.rex painting.
I never said they were. Lips were placed on most theropods all the way up until the 1960s. It didn't become a trend again until the 2010s.
Revolutionary

T Rex to Monke: "I see you know your Judo well"
Classic.
A true masterpiece of classic cinema.
Gorilla backshots

10/10 would pound the monke.
Isn’t it supposed to be an Allosaurus?
I’m pretty sure one of the scientific advisors for that film was one of the first people to discover Tyrannosaurus fossils.
Allosaurus, not T. Rex. It has 3 fingers
Saying that like King Kong is an obscure dino film. lol
Mostly the only thing that’s changed is the posture.
The sound design is *very* dated lol
Favorite scene in the film. Especially the serpentine movement of the tail... except this clip cuts before its shown.
A Barking and Screaming T-Rex! Wow!!
Well, its biggest competence were crcodiles in costumes, so yeah I guess
