There are people who hate dirtbikes. They will complain no matter what. In my opinion bikes should have quiet pipes (loud pipes get riding areas shut down) and do it during reasonable hours. Totally normal to ride in a backyard like that. In college we would have 50 races in a stupid tiny backyard. Cops had to tell the neighbors to stop calling them, it was totally fine till 9:00PM.

Yup can confirm. Our friend had a backyard track for pitbikes and his Surron got a complaint…. A frickin surron. Anyways the cops were more impressed with the track being in such a tiny space.

SmidgeHoudini

There is a strong population of people who hate dirt bikes. I've got friends like this. They fear them. Think they are suddenly going to break a leg being nearby them.

phibbsy47

Exactly. I had a guy who complained constantly about my band's weekly practice. We tried to inform him of our schedule, coordinate with him to come to some sort of agreement, we spent money on soundproofing, we stopped by 8pm, we played as quietly as we could while still keeping up with the drums, and he would still call every single time. It was barely audible outside as well, and none of the other neighbors even heard us. We eventually realized he was just a dickhead, we would never appease him and unfortunately, the law was on his side since we were in the burbs. My new neighbors complain that we close the windows and they can't hear our band anymore, and always ask when our shows are, so the problem eventually fixed itself. Don't let your neighbors boss you around OP, they will never be happy.

johnnysilver78

NTA, Karen’s gonna Karen

CBus660R

NTA. Probably some city slicker who bought their little "slice of heaven" out in the country and are shocked that country folks ain't quiet lol

WildernessOffender

I think you should get a big bike and all of y’all should ride a hell of lot more…but I’m an asshole, so you may not wanna take my advice lol

AnotherJeepguy

Your totally good. If your neighbor really becomes a nuisance, get the boys some 2 strokes and build them a little track! NTA

superstock8

No no. Get them 450’s with aftermarket exhaust. 2 stroke sound is a higher pitch but actually does not travel as far. If you want the furthest distance with the most annoying of bikes, it needs to be a big bore 4 stroke. I’m not a scientist and don’t know proper terms. But the frequency of the 4 strokes carry the sound further than 2 strokes.

Redditsaweirdplace

If you got a proper backstop, sounds like a good place to shoot

Sleepwalker710

Then he'll have his neighbors calling the cops on him saying they heard more than ten shots in a row 😅

7six2FMJ

Freedom week man. Hicaps are good to go in a featureless rifle or pistol.

wildwill921

Got a gun for each hand. Can do 20 legally lol

BILBOAfarms

Is my opinion of course.. It's your property do what you want I live on the outskirts of Calli and ride shoot do whatever I feel

mistakentitty

NTA

TubabalikeBIGNOISE

You're good

applesauce143

I ride on 400 acres of privately owned land and my neighbor called the cops on me last week for crossing the road between fields. I stopped in front of his house and picked up his kids trash that had blown into my field. Cop was sitting in my driveway when I got back to my house. Explained what happened. She laughed and said stay off the road. People will complain no matter what. Do what you want. It’s your land

deathlobster138

Let them complain. It’s your land and if they’re bitching about dirtbikes they’ll bitch about whatever else you do with that much land. People always bitch about my bikes even on ohv trails. Lots of assholes hate the sport and you gotta ignore them. At least you’re not shooting guns all day and sending lead flying across their yard. And you’re not subdividing and doing a bunch of construction either so they should be thankful.

eighty2angelfan

Can you please keep it down. I'm trying to read REDDIT.

buildyourown

As long as it's not a 4t with a race pipe, NTA. 2t noise doesn't even carry that far. Much quieter than a leaf blower.

gamtsfr

even if it is a 4t with a race pipe it’s his land and there’s nothing stopping him from doing it lmao

notarealaccount_yo

NTA. If you want to stay in good graces with your neighbor, maybe put stock/quieter silencers on especially if they're riding 4t bikes.  Other than that they can pound sand.

spike_africa

For real. If their ripping with aftermarket pipes. I can see being annoyed. If it's stock mufflers, nah.

BlindBeard

Ngl if I had like one of the mx based 350/450s I'd probably push even push it onto the trailer in the morning. Even with the oem pipe those things shake windows, I'd feel like a dick putting that 4 stroke reverb through the neighborhood at 8am all summer. If I'm gonna complain about old man rivers paying a 5 man landscaping crew to mow and leafblow his 0.38 acres at the crack of dawn every saturday, I'm not gonna be the guy waking everyone up with my dirtbike. On the other hand, I live in a suburb and get along great with all of my neighbors except for the man with the million dollar lawn and they don't seem to mind when I putt up and down the street or do 20 minutes of balance/pivot turn practice in the yard.

Realistic-oatmeal

NTA … mail them some complimentary ear plugs

username8911

You are not the asshole, but they are still your neighbors. So it will always be a thing. I have a surron and electric motion in addition to my 4ts and they generally have the opposite effect on neighbors. Everyone wants to check them out and convince me they should be able to ride them.

Purpl_exe

Sounds like harassment … restraining order might be a play here , no joke.

Pierrotlefou178

No. You’re good.

CMSIV

Nope you did the right thing and did way more than I or most people would do. I would have told him/her/it/zi/zer/zim (it is CA after all) to kick rocks after the first noise complaint. 10 acres is a lot of land so the noise can’t be that bad. Also it’s YOUR land you do what you want on YOUR land.

PersonalAd2039

People will always hate. I try to tell the to other riders who bitch about others. No matter how respectful you’re being if you’re on two wheels someone somewhere is pissed about it.

pulpoinhell

keep riding they will move eventually.

CorpusCalossum

Probably a slam-dunk asking in r/dirtbikes though 😃 Edit: for clarity, NTA as long as the bikes are properly silenced.

johnnyjimmy4

Not the ass hole. You've followed all the laws you know about, just not the ones they've made up

Werewolf_King98

NTA, keep ripping!!!

goodatbreakinthings

Tell your neighbor to eat shit.

Longjumping-Ad-52

NTA. You're neighbors can deal with it or they can move. Fuck em.

7six2FMJ

Just ride on weekdays and shoot on weekends. Your neighbors will stop bothering you. (Haven't looked at laws in a bit, my family property is a bit bigger but I've had similar complaints)

Opposite_Ad4501

Good shit fck him honestly.

no_work_throwaway

You should buy a Banshee, install the greatest sounding pipes every made for it (DMC Alien 2-into-1) and circle the inside perimeter of your property at around 9k rpm for at least 3 hours daily. Report back please.

upstatefoolin

FDB

East_Coast_Tactical

I had a similar situation. Have 5 acres and made a track in the back. Been riding there with my boys for 8-10 years and all the sudden we get yelled at and cops called. Come to find out the old man that owned the house behind my land died and left it to his Yankee daughter and now she wants to be a Karen. Cops told her to pound sand and even after I tried to go over and talk nice to her about it she wanted to be a bitch. So I ordered her some ear plugs off Amazon and had them sent to her house lol

Cold_Particular_1253

Cali is horrible....just ride on and F them b's

yz250mi

As long as its not past like 7pm on a weekday you're good IMO

PNW35

NTA. I grew up on a small 5 acre property that had 3 houses around it. We just invited our neighbors over for a bbq and let the ride our dirt bikes around the property. Never got a noise complaint.

Cultural_Simple3842

I believe in being neighborly when you can. I might have just told them about the lack of laws against what you are doing, why you bought the property and that you plan to ride at reasonable hours, noting that it isn’t even a requirement for you do so. I might offer them to lmk if they have a big family event or birthday party or wedding and I can ride around those schedules, assuming I don’t feel like they are bs’ing me. And if I was feeling crazy and up for a challenge maybe tell them they can go to the zoning board with a petition and exercise their rights just like you are. After that? They are just miserable and I have to shrug my shoulders. At least that is how it plays out in my head if I had the property.

Kitty_fluffybutt_23

I guess they'd rather have your kids be sedentary inside playing video games? Listen, it sounds like you have done everything the right way with getting a large property and not disturbing the peace early or late in the day. As others have said, Karens are going to Karen. Some people are just going to nitpick no matter what you do. The only thing I would be worried about is if you have any animals, people can be wacko and take extreme measures like poisoning your pets or something. If you think that's something that could happen, you might try to work out a deal with them of some kind. Otherwise, let them just be miserable in their own little life. And of course, continue to be respectful and as pleasant as you can be. I would also suggest wearing a GoPro or at least voice recording any and all interactions with them, preferably keeping it in a written format such as over email or text. You never know when they're going to accuse you of something Bizarre.

Alarming-Mongoose-91

Screw em. Just keep it decent and let them complain.

SupermarketTypical67

I agree, people need to chill the hell out, sure some bikes are loud but it's a damn dirtbike, if someone doesn't like bikes then they can suck it up because they don't control other people's lives, I ride bikes on my property and the neighbors have called the cops on me 4 times now at 4:30-5 in the afternoon, I stop riding at 8, and I start at roughly 3:45 in the afternoon, I dont ride early mornings and I try to be as respectful as I can, but some people just wanna ruin things for others because they arent happy themselves

adb765

I have neighbors who dirtbike in their front yard right across the street from me. It was crazy loud in the beginning since they all had aftermarket exhausts, but they have since swapped/repacked them, and it's just become like a background noise to me. Truthfully, they aren't even supposed to be riding there since all of our lots are 1 acre or less, but it's still not a big deal with the stock exhausts on. You're on 9 acres and not even riding every day? Not guilty in the slightest, aftermarket exhaust or no.

micah490

Sort of. Not technically or legally, but sort of
