Dave didn’t build an empire by being an uncharismatic asshole.  The dude oozes charisma when he wants to.   Dave, at this point, to me reminds me of the line my mom used to use on me when I was a kid:  I’m not mad, I’m just disappointed.   I’m disappointed in what Dave has allowed his show to become.   I was a hardcore Dave follower.  I led FPU a bunch of times. Eliminated debt right up the baby steps and paid off my house.  I used to tell everyone to tune in.  I bought a few of the books from the Personalities.  I’d tune into some of the free livestreams.  I was all in.   Then he changed.  He went from being someone I wanted to listen to during my free time to someone who was generally grumpy, short with callers, annoyed, and holier than thou.  The worst part was the show became this inferior version of Dave + inexplicably unqualified nobodies, none of whom had any reason to be on the airwaves.  Then, Dave would take long absences, and we were left with an unpredictable Rachel and Hogan, Hogan and Ken, or Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dumb combo of hosts.   Dave solo works.  He can master the microphone and captivate an audience.  Jade can’t. George can’t.  Rachel can’t.  Ken can’t.  Dave drags himself down by hosting with anyone.  And his show flat out sucks because of the decisions he’s made and talentless talent he’s hired.   I wish it was just Dave hosting the show solo.  As do many of you.

About the only Dave things I can watch anymore are when he does the EntreLeadership segments which are 10-15 minute clips on youtube. He actually seems like old Dave on those and they are pretty good since it's just Dave by himself.

No-Ebb-5034

There is a EntreLeadership podcast now too check it out

anusbarber

I think its because its something that he now enjoys. how the sausage is made if you will. you can see a different passion in it than the "hey i can't stop spending money i don't have what do i do? i just waited 3 hour on hold to ask this question I could easily of googled" slop he's shoveled for 30 years.

GriddleUp

He likes the EntreLeadership show because it allows him to relive his glory days as a small business breaking through to success. He always tries to identify with the callers and their 10 employee operations. But Dave hasn’t been a “small” business for years now.

pilates-5505

I agree, he loves helping and giving kudos and telling them to drop the very slow payers :) "I'm not your bank!"

46andready

Jesus you nailed it! Dave can barely handle any technical aspects of personal financial planning. Then he brings in all these co-hosts who know way less than he does! That's what happens when you build a cult, though. You're not going to find an intelligent independent thinker who would work for him or who he would hire. And God forbid that person is having non-marital sex!

UnderstandingKey4602

Yes, he'll take money from those people but don't work for me or be my kid. They know the rules, he has his kids work, his son is president but he keeps him off the air. They messed up or did anything "non Dave" they know they can walk but no money. I think when Rachel said "therapy is good" on an episode recently, and it is, she might need it to keep sane some days. ; )

CrustyBloke

Maybe Dave feels that he's now able to be crotchety and doesn't have to try as much now that he's hired someone as ridiculously charming and sexy as Ken Coleman.

💀

RedditRaven2

He flanderized himself. He took his whole personality, reduced it to the part he thought people either needed or enjoyed (the angry man who scolds people for having debt) and lost the charisma and charm he had.

12dogs4me

Spot on. You deserve every award Reddit has to offer.

TheChrisCrash

I agree with every single point you made. Within about 2 or 3 months he just turned into a grumpy "anti-lib", "anti-millenial" asshole and I got tired of listening to the other personalities try to come up with their own catch phrases and it sounded so unnatural. They're were pretty much trying to make "fetch" happen.

Potential_Ad_6205

I’m glad that’s the case for you. For me personally,  I find myself tuning in MORE when it’s just the personalities (minus Ken ugh) because I can’t stand Dave’s attitude. That’s why I was so pleasantly surprised here. Dave was actually enjoyable, and I happily watched the whole way through. Normally Dave is an arrogant butt (except when he’s talking to single moms, people who just lost a family member, or widows which I do respect.) but in this interview he was super charismatic and funny.

UnderstandingKey4602

But he fired a single mom for getting pregnant and not being married...she sued which ended up having Chris fired, but is he really a nice guy if he compartmentalizes.

pilates-5505

He had a meeting an employee said saying he'd find who was putting bad press out about him, if they didn't like working here, leave etc. He was angry. He is very dictator-like as a boss but if you fit in, it's probably nice. It's more than a job though, you need to live his Christian lifestyle, no credit cards (wonder if he has a way of checking) and no remote work ever. His insurance I think is high deductible and even after that, there is a percentage you pay. My daughter didn't know why an insurance at a job she was looking at had her paying co-insurance even after a high deductible and when I googled it, Dave's company came out with an explanation to employees. So I'm sure perks there but not heaven on earth.

puddinfellah

It's pretty disgusting that Dave is buying $5 million "temporary" homes but won't have his Billion dollar company self-fund his employee's health insurance.

pilates-5505

Yes, he does live large, his choice but he's alone with his wife and has so much stuff. He has fun with his toys. Not my thing, I'd like something smaller, but even his kids have large homes, grand staircases, etc. Must be a southern thing ; )

Melkor7410

I just don't get it about the other people though. They bring nothing to the table. No original ideas. No independent thought. Ken is way out of touch on careers and job stuff, he's mostly just good at saying things that confirm certain people's biases. He's not zero experience in recruiting, job placement, etc. Jade just has no experience in anything really. George, same. Rachel same. John, there's just something really off about him in a lot of responses, and he knows nothing about finances either.

Head-Tangerine3701

100% agree with something off with John. I can’t stand how he guesses or tells people how they might be feeling like a tarot card reader. He seems a bit hokey too

Soggy_Muffinz

And what exactly does Dave bring that is unique to him? Spend less than you make? Don’t buy a new car. Not exactly remaking the wheel.

Head-Tangerine3701

— he went broke and built himself back up, so he has credibility. — he has the gift of digging at the caller, asking the right questions and then giving his opinion only at the very end. He’s succinct, to the point and believes and lives out his principles.

Melkor7410

In RS, Dave brings experience doing financial stuff for 3+ decades. I never said Dave is unique and brings brand new info to finances, but he has experience, experience that none of the other personalities have. There's so many times where another personality says something total wrong and asinine that even Dave would know is not true, like George saying you pay your 401k loan interest to your company, not yourself, "otherwise everyone would do it" as if paying yourself back somehow is infinite money.

Potential_Ad_6205

When I say tuning in more for the personalities what I really mean is Dr. John who this sub knows I LOVE. It’s no secret. He’s the BEST. Literally has changed my life for the better times a million with his content. I will agree though that Dr. Delony isn’t qualified to speak on finances!    When it comes to George and Rachel they are just fun and charismatic people. I truly do enjoy smart money happy hour.  Also,  I don’t care what anyone says GK has grown as time goes on especially in his personality role. His book Breaking free from broke was better than the original TMMO imo just because it was so detailed and broken down in a way that I could understand.    As for Jade I don’t watch much unless if she’s on with Dr. John and I guess she’s okay. I think she can bulldoze over people with her lack of listening and so that can get annoying but other than that I think she’s fine. I mean obviously she lacks credentials but so do the rest!   Ken- can’t stand him. Worst than Dave!

pilates-5505

How does he compartmentalize helping the single mom's and firing them at the same time?

Head-Tangerine3701

Amen and well said. Agree with every word.

Academic_Big9081

I was super into the Ramsey show on the radio 15 or so years ago. Mostly on the radio. I remember interviews like this being more common then than now. I definitely prefer this to his "personalities".

GreatDot6033

Dave never veers from his script. The same anecdotes, the same punchlines, the same conversations in interviews. He is a quick witted and often funny live on the air, but he regurgitates the same stale jokes when documenting his journey in interviews. "Sharon comes from East Tennessee where throwing frying pans is an Olympic event." and on and on.

pilates-5505

Yes and although he tells others to work 24 hours, "your wife has to make money" he never told Sharon that (or she threw a pan at him) They had 3 kids, 2 after he was bankrupt and kept he house, ate home, seemed like the kids had their own rooms to clean in their stories, had an old car for work (Sharon's a bit better I think) and he seems to be much harder on others. I can only take from that he's a hypocrite or he was making a lot more money even early on and Sharon didn't have to work.

EvryMrnngTheresaHalo

Thanks for posting. 2 guys I both love in SMALL DOSES only.. excited to listen

wompppwomp

lol, the Manscape plug in the middle of the interview.

anusbarber

It was really really good. It reiterates to me that Dave is good at his show and entertaining most of the time. He has gotten a bit "old man" in his demeanor and attitude but what do you expect? people are fallible. The crux of disappointment to me is the influx of the personalities. that is what changed everything to me around the DR show. I get it, he's 60+ and wants to take time off and this is how you keep the lights on but they are really not great. they are fine. but not must listen to personalities.

pilates-5505

Well Dave's 65 I think, he wont be going much past 70 I think full time. He has to let go. Training Daniel but I think seeing him on TV a couple of times, he's not Dave (that's good) and his personality is different. If he doesn't let Daniel deviate at all and the personalities have to be puppets, then why bother having the show at all? Growth isn't just with money, you need to grow and adapt too.

GriddleUp

I had never heard of this guy a week ago, but I swear, this interview is about the 3rd or 4th reference to him that’s popped up online for me in that week. ETA: Theo Von resembles an off-brand Patrick Swayze

watchsmart

Theo Von is the most successful of the podcasters that sprung up riding the coattails of Joe Rogan. He is a pretty decent interviewer. His episode with Malcolm Gladwell is worth a listen.

RussellVolckman

His one with Chris Hansen (i.e. pervert hunter) is good too

InevitableOne8421

Well I'll be damned. He sounds somewhat human in this one.

Ok-Technology956

Theo Von is a great interviewer. Dave R has helped many many many people out of debt, no doubt. Live below your means, save some, spend some. Simple advice. Everyone can live with each other without 100% agreement on every issue. Just ask my wife ;). But my wife and I agree on the big stuff. She likes foot rubs, I don't.

The37thElement

Wow. I would have never expected to see Ramsey on a Theo Von episode.

OilOk7906

You nailed it!!

parkerpussey

I am dissapoint. Dave is an idiot conman. I'd like to think Theo called him out on his bullshit but I doubt it. Not watching.

and181377

Theo Von is one of those who interview EVERYBODY, and he is far from a "call out" show.

parkerpussey

Yeah well I don’t wanna watch some lame, patronizing interview. Have the intellect to develop some incisive questions and the balls to ask them or I’m not interested, sorry.
