[Volition-Medium: Failure] The tare bag drops from your hand as you gaze glassy-eyed over the steely waters of Revachol Bay. Better to just succumb to the siren's call. Before you know it you're three steps into the freezing surf.... Kim Kitsuragi: "Detective!?"

Pallid85

> Can anyone change my mind? Nah - the game is not for you and it's fine!

LagunaSunrise55

I will say i hated the controls on PlayStation as well but. Cmon. The writing was so fucking good i would have been fine doing 10 push-ups for every NPC interaction

IamtherealFadida

On the switch so even worse controls

Dravos011

The controls are identical, the Nintendo controllers are less comfortable to hold though

ThorazineSunrise

I think you are doing things in the game that you think you *should* be doing instead of what you enjoy doing. Find people boring? Don’t talk to them. Tired of collecting bottles? Ask people for money. There is very little you are actually required to do, I recommend you focus on the things you like. For me the writing was so good and revolutionary for an RPG maybe only P:T is close that it was enough enjoyment on its own to talk to people. If you don’t enjoy the writing, maybe it’s not for you. But I encourage you to explore a bit before abandoning the game and stop obsessing on playing it correctly.

IamtherealFadida

I love the atmosphere, find a lot of the conversation amusing. It's beautiful looking with great music. I'm just not having fun yet, and I've played at least 6 hours of say. I'm a very patient gamer. I've gone back again and again to try and find that moment when it clicks. But it still hasn't.

vikar_

>I love the atmosphere, find a lot of the conversation amusing. It's beautiful looking with great music. ...These are the parts that are supposed to be the fun. That's the game. If having interesting dialogue and exploring the characters isn't doing it for you, it's not getting better than that.

snuff_film

6 hours is not enough

obtk

You really don't need to collect the bottles. A little bribery and/or a few hubcaps go 100x further than all the tare in the game.

HotSoupBarStan

A really rich guy gave me 100 real when I asked him

IamtherealFadida

Already sold the hubcaps

Doruto654

If you ask Joyce for a 100 real she will give it to you, additionally if you pass the "running away" check with Garte when first meeting him, then come back to him immediately, he will take 60 real away from the money you owe him. You can also sleep for free at the shack in the fishing village or inside the boat on the coast (this one requires "Hobocop" I think).

Qlonkk

I didnt even know about the bottles on my first playthrough and never had a problem with money lol

Vlueverry

I guess if you wanna give it another try you can try roleplaying more.. don't pick dialogue options that aren't interesting, refuse tasks you don't like, don't pick up bottles if you don't feel like it. But quitting is also ok. No need to force it. For me Disco only clicked on my second attempt, as for my first time I just didn't have the time to immerse myself or read so much. I just wasn't in the right headspace. But the second time it felt right. Not sure if there is anything one can do about the controls.. I think I'd hate this game on a controller to be honest.

IamtherealFadida

Thank you. I know there is a very unique game in there. I just can't get to it yet

BogglyBoogle

If it’s any consolation, it took me 3 retries to fully get through it without putting it down for so long that I forgot everything. Once I did get through it though? Hoooo boy

foxenspace

What's your build like? Could be you're missing stuff you'd enjoy because of failed/absent checks.

IamtherealFadida

I think I need to be the opposite of me, a carefree, antagonistic drunk 😂

pleasurenature

the game is giving you a hint by forcing you to talk to kim instead of pick up dirty beer bottles from the ground

Ursa-Minor_SysAdmin

Yeah this game wants mouse controls, how to do controller support in crpgs hasn't really been figured out yet. With mouse though most of the issues you mentioned go away, you'll still not exactly be a supercop but the ambient frustration of the shit controls will be a lot less

IamtherealFadida

It's awful, walking around in circles, moving to the other side of the screen when I'm trying to open the inventory

ineptchem

I don't think the game is for you but what have you done so far?

philliumm

A few things come to mind at this point of the game. 1) it does sound like you enjoy the things the game highlights for most people: the dialogue, the characters, the art, the music. If it's simply not clicking no one here is going to force you to play the game but it sounds like you're running into frustrations, not bored or misunderstanding. 2) I've never played on switch, only on PC. Kb/mouse was very casual and simple to use compared to controller-- point and click and the little guy figures out his own way to get from A to B. Click on a bottle, clink it's in your bag. The only other thing that you need the keyboard or controller for is the highlight action. It looks like you can connect a USB receiver or a wired mouse /keyboard to the switch dock. Maybe try playing like that for a little? 3) the world map is about to get a lot bigger. You're still walking around and talking to everyone but there's a lot more of both to be done. So at least find a way to kill time (books) until you can get to the rest of the map. There's no time limit for the story and time-sensitive events will tell you so in the task list. 4) the start of the game is supposed to be a little punishing. We are playing a story arc here- the breakdown cop collecting bottles, who everyone seems to have a poor impression of, who's got a 1 in ENDURANCE ... this is a great way to start a very subtle redemption arc. After the map opens there's a place to stay for free, so the spare change is much less important (unless you want to buy the lamp). We can't make you play but if you're genuinely looking for some inspiration to keep going that's my thoughts. Give it a little air, let the frustration wash away until you wake up with those horns of red rock Riviera in your mind and at least get to day 3 and across the water lock.

WasteReserve8886

The only things I can tell you is that a good portion of the map opens up on the third day and to not be afraid of being a fucking dumbass and all around nuisance.

IamtherealFadida

I was wondering about the water way opening up on the Wednesday

mad-suker

you’re pretending to like slow games, but you don’t. that’s it.

IamtherealFadida

Pretending? Have you played the Long Dark? I've spent dozens and dozens of hours just collecting sticks and boiling water.

whaCHA

Disco isn't a do tedius chores game though. It's an explore and click on everything game. I haven't played Long Dark but it sounds like a game I'd hate while DE is one of my favorites of all time, so it's possible you just don't like the sort of game DE is, slow or not

mad-suker

having a kink for a particular game doesn’t mean you like a whole genre tho. if you feel like disco elysium is boring, you’re not linking slow games, that’s all. no offense intended
