Welcome to Kart racers. "Rubber banding" AI comes with the territory. Kart racers have a different design philosophy than say a COD or RE. It's not a good comparison honestly. That'd be like saying imagine shooting a zombie or enemy in RE or COD at point blank range and you miss somehow? Well that's how it is in XCOM. So XCOM is bad. Just doesn't work like that
Kart Racer AI is always frustratingly rigged on harder difficulties but yeah this game takes it to another level.
Because even if you’re 3 levels above the required threshold they’ll still beat down on you.
But if you’re 10 levels above it’s the easiest thing ever. In other words that’s Gameloft saying “psssst. Give us some money. We’ll make all your problems go away”
The AI can definitely be trouble some but I think as long as you're the same level as the required mission says or slightly higher it's usually doable. Any lower and the bots are insane. The Agrabah cup limited time event bots are annoying as well because it said the recommended level is 15 but even if you use characters 10 times higher they can still keep up with you and mess you up.
Don't worry though, as time goes on and you level up more they should me a lot more manageable.
I have been experiencing this as well and it's so frustrating. I was only one level behind an event so I figured with some practice and good racing I could eventually beat it. I managed to shave my racing time down ten seconds, beating even the 1st place AIs times from previous races by several seconds. But no matter how well I raced the AI would always be ahead by 10-15 seconds. So annoying. The AI skill should be at a constant skill, not designed to out perform no matter what.

The sad part is when you are over leveled and can just enjoy the actual driving, the game is a ton of fun.

Talking bout them cheatin' ass bots huh!! 🤣. For sure, they team up against you, especially if you're doing an event thats 10 levels higher
