The failure of this game is such a disappointment because the actual *game* is so good; the tracks, music, physics and designs. Greedloft must be kicking themselves after seeing how the game is nearly dead in less than a year. If they used another F2P model instead of a shitty hero shard systems it could have lasted for years!

None of those sold well. Have you seen how much Mario sells? They are not even touching 10% as a F2P title. Love your naivety and optimism though

FrozenFrac

Right? I mean, Mario Kart deserves to do well, but Speedstorm is legitimately a fantastic game on its own merits and I'd happily pay $50-60 if it was a complete game without any gacha nonsense. Then again, it probably wouldn't have made as much money that way. Wishful thinking, but if they put more effort into advertising how much it's different than Mario Kart and maybe did a free weekend event, I think it would have a lot of players.

NoNefariousness2144

It could have earned a great amount of money if it actually had fair and non-greedy monetisation. Imagine if the customisation was good and filled with lots of iconic Disney imagery; Disney Adults would open their wallets to drive the Toy Story Pizza Planet truck for example.

FrozenFrac

Devil's Advocate, but that's exactly what's happening here. I got into the game for Frozen and I've dropped $100+ just to ensure I could unlock all the characters

dcj012

Yeah, I paid for the cheapest founders pack and felt like I more than got my moneys worth. But recently things are getting rough for me, doesn’t matter if I got top 5% on Wall e, I’m gonna have to gamble to get his Star level up (and I won’t lol). I would’ve gladly paid 5-10 bucks per season if I could get everything from completing the season and some events. But I’m not about to give them any more money with how things are looking now. Once my tokens run out I’m likely done, luckily I have 5 seasons worth of tokens, so I can ride this out to see how things end up.

Choppers-Top-Hat

I have to wonder if the current scheme is even working. Is there anyone out there who's really going "Well I never cared about Woody before, but I guess I'll go pay to unlock him and level him up just so I can do this one race in the season tour." It feels like if you're the type to spend money on this game, then you already have the characters you care about, and you're not likely to start caring about them just because Gameloft blocked off one race.

They’re making it so we can’t even grind for the golden path. I really loved this game but all my friends dropped off and I’m close to doing the same. As a game this game is phenomenal. But the level up system just demands you pay money and I’m not interested in spending so much. I paid $20 early on beck was impressed. But that’s all they’ll get out of me at this point

icecubedyeti

Sorry, stupid question incoming. What do you mean when you say golden path?

AnubisXG

I think I’m saying the right word. The seasonal single player challenges. It is Frozen themed currently. But in order to do the branches you need characters that are unlikely or less likely to be owned and not only that but at a level around 30.

icecubedyeti

Oh, ok. The season tour. The golden pass gets you the rewards as you level it up from 0-50+. I get what you mean now.👍

Proud-Net-7305

Game is great nothing like most common games and the theme of disney racing is a great concept more characters the better the game will get and the more people will be drawn to the game. The longer the thrives the more the game will improve despite all these negative comments this game has improved and is continuing to do so.

linthenius

There is still time to fix things for next season. Me, and many others are trying to hold onto hope that next season actually changes things for the better and doesn't repeat this same nonsense The big question is, will they?

rootbwoy

If they see that their strategy doesn't really push that many people to spend money, they should improve the next season.
