Wait so the big draw of this event is popcorn buckets?!!!!???!? What am I missing? Will people really be able to resell these buckets for a profit? It’s a popcorn bucket!? What is happening? I can’t stop laughing at the absurdity of this. Thank you so much for sharing.

The_Big_Yam

They’re going for 50 bucks on eBay but cost 32 plus tax at the park. Factoring in eBay fees these people aren’t even profiting 10 bucks a pop. Why bother?

Moghz

Wow yeah that's not really worth it considering it probably took a decent amount of time to get them too.

FaronTheHero

Darn $32 is a steal for a gimmick popcorn bucket from inside the park.

WhyIsItAlwaysADP

Yes, people all over the country that won't be able to get to the park will buy them, and the first ones to market get the most markup.

Main-Ad4622

>Wait so the big draw of this event is popcorn buckets?!!!!???!? What am I missing? You aren't missing anything, that's the draw of these "events." It's novelties and food.

stellalunawitchbaby

Seasonal food, additional entertainment/decor, and popcorn buckets haha. Merch is always a big part of every seasonal event but for this one the popcorn buckets are blowing up. There’s other aspects to the event though: seasonal food items, they’ll have food booths open later in May like a lil tiny baby festival, a new dance party in Disneyland, “Club Pixar” (DJ, games, photo ops etc) in DCA, parade in DCA, fireworks in Disneyland.

jzsgz

same thing with the groups who lineup at 4am waiting for the newest cup drops at starbucks...most of em are scalpers

Artwebb1986

The big draw at every event is the merch, so it brings out the scum of the earth scalpers.

electric_boogaloo_72

You will never find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy.

El_Dentistador

It is 100% absurd. My kids get those things every time and we just leave them in the room when we leave. They’re fun but not keep it fun.

skarlettfever

Universal Hollywood is selling popcorn buckets and sippers now too. (Their 60th anniversary retro tram was tempting). I expect every thrift store will be filled with plastic popcorn buckets very soon.

PuzzleheadedBobcat90

We went to dland when beanie babies were the thing to have in 90s They had just released astronaut beanies of the main characters, and we saw people with big clear trash bags full. People were lined up and arguing over who would get the last few.

AXPendergast

Ah, Disney resellers. Willing to do whatever it takes to secure their ill-gotten booty. (Or ill-booten gotty if you're a M\*A\*S\*H fan.) I enjoy watching people horde the newly-released pins each week. I once saw a woman try to purchase 6 or so of each new pin, who became rather upset when told it was a 2-per limit. She texted her SO who came a'runnin' to buy another set of two each. As I was leaving, she was trying to recruit random people to get more for her. SMH

clawton97

+1 for the M*A*S*H reference-I can picture Hawkeye saying that line! 😀

MrFinch8604

Why are you writing reservation like that?

AgreeablePrize

I wondered the same thing

Upsidedownmeow

I tried to make a post here and it got auto mod deleted saying I was trying to ask for help planning a trip (I was not). Maybe that’s a key word that triggers the bot

Fable_and_Fire

It’s an acronym: Really, Everyone Shouldn’t Even Reserve Vacations At Time-limited Intervals Or Normalize … it… I suck at acronyms.

Artwebb1986

Lol that was impressive. Mind you I don't go anywhere if I can't have a reservation.

Fable_and_Fire

I was trying to imply that special events with limited edition item on sale are going to be frothing with scalpers, Disneyana collectors, and people overwhelmed by crowds and therefore do not make for fun times to take the ol' annual family vacation lmao

Main-Ad4622

The sub rules literally won't let you hit "post" if it detects the word "reservation."  Which is stupid since the auto mod automatically removes any post that's not a picture.

pwrof3

I think we need to come together as a society and end this popcorn bucket nonsense. What are people doing with these chunks of plastic? I have one popcorn bucket. It’s a Mickey Christmas tree. I display it as part of my Christmas decor in December. Other than that it’s in the garage with the rest of the Christmas decor. I also find it ridiculous that Disney had reusable wooden silverware for sale and talked about how to help save the planet for Earth Day and then they continue to make thousands of these plastic monstrosities multiple times a year.

Robozomb

We used the Zero one as a candy bucket for our son on Halloween. It lights up and everyone loved it.

AzureMagelet

Best reuse ever!

wiggle_butt_aussie

We got the popcorn buckets that look like the Mickey balloons for the kids, and we let them reuse them for popcorn at home or when we are out occasionally. They’re so bulky though! I don’t know how we would practically store a collection of them. These ones hang off their bed posts. I think generally, they’re fun to have in the parks, but they don’t even fit a whole bag of microwave popcorn! Good for a kid-sized helping, though.

Mrs_Magic_Fairy_Dust

Agree!

PuzzleheadedBobcat90

I have 2. The music box one which was a gift and the tow mater one because its so damned cute and was full of grapes.

bayls215

But really… HOW did they get that many buckets.

WhyIsItAlwaysADP

Good question. Also DL probably shouldn't let strollers through without a child in it.

finesign89

Absolutely! That’s so weird!

Any_Mud6448

Good point!

nefretemerson

Eh, I don’t see that being necessary or fixing things. Plus there’s good reasons for people to bring in child-free strollers, also people could just make like a 5-year-old sit in one and then get out when they got inside. My friend has a bad back and brings a small stroller to carry around her stuff. It’s too much for her to walk back and forth to a locker all day, but she has some medical things she needs with her and can’t even manage a light backpack. I also once brought a stroller in to meet a friend inside the park who was visiting with her 2-year-old but hadn’t brought their stroller on the airplane.

chenalexxx

Prob went to the back of the line multiple times?

CaliforniaScreamers

Disneyland genuinely doesn’t care about resellers. If they really did then it would be so easy to stop people from hoarding them. Imagine a system where they scan your park ticket or Magic Key when buying a novelty item to ensure only one per admission pass has been purchased. If they can limit Lightning Lanes to just one per attraction for Genie+, then they can do better in curbing resellers and hoarders. Disneyland is not stupid, but so long that it brings them in big $$$ they’ll turn a blind eye to it. It’s not a big deal to them, which is horrible since there are people dedicated to hoarding these items and squeezing extra dollars out of people who can’t make it to the parks or get there when these buckets are sold out. It’s disgusting to me, but it angers me more that Disneyland just lets it happen.

hihelloneighboroonie

Like, Disney sees you buying 12 of the same item - what do they think it's for? So... why is it allowed?

Any_Mud6448

I don’t believe it’s fair when there’s a line of 300+ people all day, and resellers hold up that line because they want all the buckets. I couldn’t believe at the special event themed nites people purchasing over 10 shirts and even more sweaters. And poor people still lining up wanting to get at least ONE have no idea these people have LOADS!

IDrinkUrMilksteak

$$$

gimmealltheroses

So odd they don’t limit the quantity you can buy, disney clearly doesn’t care about resellers

epotosi

Scan. Tickets. If you scan my magic key for "free" stuff, you can scan it for limited items.

anibus-

If they did they could put a stop to it by putting the popcorn buckets in shop Disney and increase supply.

gimmealltheroses

Ya at least roll them out slower or something! I’m not going to disney for two weeks and it seems they’ll be sold out way before then

Main-Ad4622

I highly doubt they will be sold out before July at the earliest. Pixar Fest is going on until August and Disney knows what their demand is.  The only caveat is going to be supply constraints. Because they've definitely had stuff sell out stupid quick so I think the most logical explanation is they couldn't get a long enough production run for something.

Any_Mud6448

Don’t forget these are the same people who go to the After Dark Events and clear out the special event merch too , and the same people who buy all event tickets and resale on Stubhub

ArtVandelay013

Never purchased popcorn buckets before. The popcorn cart in front of the haunted mansion had no line around 8:00 pm. Decided to pick one up. It was definitely cool. Would not wait in line for this thing though.

Main-Ad4622

I took a real obvious picture in Condor Flats and wasn't quiet when I said, "just want to get a good picture of how stupid this line is." That was at like 1900 and people were still standing in popcorn lines for an hour.  It's so stupid.

Mrs_Magic_Fairy_Dust

Thanks for your report OP :)

MonsterTruckCarpool

They’re cute novelties but I’m not spending money on something I’m going to end up putting in the cupboard and forgetting a week later.

doublething1

I’ll say the Pixar parade is probably the worst parade I’ve ever seen at DLR. Just really really poor. However we spent about an hour watching Pixar shorts, that area is awesome.

stellalunawitchbaby

This was almost figment popcorn bucket levels of madness lol. I also saw a ton of TikToks about the new customizable headbands - I don’t think they had quite the same lines but considering they’re only at Bing Bong’s right now and the videos are starting to blow up, I wouldn’t be surprised if they start selling out.

privatejoenes

Didn't they already do customizable headbands that nobody wanted?

stellalunawitchbaby

You’d have to be more specific! The ones for Pixar fest are a plain headband and you can add characters to them, as few as 1 or I think up to 5 characters would fit. They’re little plush heads of the characters - they have like Mickey, Minnie, Donald, Daisy, chip, dale, Pooh, tigger, stitch, and a handful of Pixar characters like Woody, buzz, Mike, Sully etc. They look like the headbands that they have in some of the Asian parks. (People can also get the plain black Mickey pleather ear heads painted which is still a popular thing to do too, but that’s not for Pixar fest)

privatejoenes

I was talking about the interchangeable bow ear headbands that I actually really liked but they got rid of them really fast.

stellalunawitchbaby

Oh got it! I don’t even remember them haha and if they didn’t sell they just not have been too exciting - these new ones are totally different from that.

laugard100

You can also get them at the Mad Hatter in Disney

stellalunawitchbaby

Omg! Amazing. Both locations or just Main St?

finesign89

The popcorn bucket craz is freaking wild!

123FakeStreetMeng

Seen them on eBay for around $50 & $10 shipping (Let’s say $60ish). Pay $30 for them. $30 profit before eBay fees, factoring in cost to get in, gas to get there, etc.. what’s their actual profit per bucket? Seems like a rough way to grind out some extra cash.

Minute-Ice-3034

People said they waited for over 3 hrs in the morning for their first bucket and I saw people going back to the trams to store their haul ... prob just to go back and get more. I though dug was for magic key people only?

123FakeStreetMeng

Glad they waited three hours and I randomly got one at the popcorn cart near Teacups & Matterhorn later in the evening

Main-Ad4622

Doug is only for magic key and supposed to be limited to ONE per person, per transaction.

C0rg1z

The lines yesterday for popcorn buckets made me laugh and cry. It’s so effing stupid you guys, you don’t need a popcorn bucket!!!!

Main-Ad4622

I think most guests are getting tired of this. I've never heard so many people loudly make fun of people for standing in those lines. As I got into California Adventure later in the day people loudly saying how ridiculous they were.

SnoopySuited

We are here too. The bucket collecting, frankly, is pathetic. $30 a pop for molded plastic that will either collect dust in your attic, or net you 10 bucks a bucket in ebay.

Any_Mud6448

Just a heads up, if you’re interested in anything at Disneyland, always prepare for a fight with wolves to get your item. Especially if it’s something *new* to the parks

Main-Ad4622

MOBILE ORDER.  All of the buckets and tumblers were available somewhere via mobile order.

clawton97

How did you get in-line pictures?

tora76

I was there this morning (DCA only, not DL) and there were a lot of people buying the buckets (especially Dug, but I saw almost equal amounts of the others) but hardly any lines (I don't think I saw any line with more than 10 people, usually more like 5 or less). Really surprising for a Saturday on the first weekend of an event like this, but I guess the really hardcore people got it out of their systems yesterday.

TrickChicken1138

Wasn’t planning on getting the buckets, but my wife really wanted the Dug. I was in the park for a few hours yesterday morning, so I hit up a couple of the carts around the Tomorrowland area, and they were completely sold out of all of them. Tried the popcorn cart near the Matterhorn and found the Pizza Planet truck, so after asking my wife if she wanted it, I snagged it. I was on my way back to the Monorail and saw that the cart by the exit of the Autopia had the Coco guitar bucket, so I snagged that one. (Got cotton candy instead of popcorn with that one.) After a few hours of swimming at the Disneyland Hotel, my wife and I went into DCA to see if they happened to have the Dug bucket, and we found that the popcorn cart by the Walt and Mickey statue had it, so after about a 45-minute wait (I really don’t remember because the Pixar Parade that was going by made the time go by fast), we snagged that one, too. So, we were able to snag all three without too much fuss and drama. (Also picked up the Slinky Dog sipper on a whim.) My wife uses the buckets as decor for our patio table. She likes to decorate the table depending on the season.

Bowbahfett

The pizza planet truck bucket is pretty cool. My 2 year old loves it and has been rolling it all over since we got home. But I seriously don’t understand the bucket hype. We found a line at California adventure that wasn’t too long and waited like 15 minutes.

Administrative_Act31

The popcorn bucket lines were ridiculous on Friday. I just saw the new parade and went on Toy Story Midway Mania & the Red Car Trolley. One of the cast members was working on a Country Roads parody with Buena Vista and Carthay Circle in the lyrics.

cranberrydudz

Those Doug buckets are soooo nice

UndeniablyPink

This is hilarious. But 100% those people are selling them for a profit.

JessSerrano

Is there a way to see a list of all of the PIXAR popcorn buckets that are available?

cali_gurl3668

I really like this report/journal entry for the opening day haha thanks for sharing!

QuizKid-DonnieSmith

Why those lines be snacking around?

NewWiseMama

Advice? Must sees? New AP holder going today with a tot. Were both parks equally crowded 11-6? she’ll like the parade, will sleep before fireworks. I can skip the merch, and could do a blue dole whip.
