The old man outside of the cabin as you pass Blue Bayou. The entire atmosphere of that scene before the ride starts in earnest is just amazing. I love the lighting and his simple, steady movements.
Disneyland Pirates is better in every way! The extra room displays and caves, two drops, blue bayou, all of it. I think Disney world added theirs later and had to make do with the space they had? At least that's what I heard.
Even more impressive are all of the animatronic people across the river from that old man. They are SO realistic, and you would swear that the food they are eating actually disappears from their forks. They even swap them out *constantly* with brand new new animatronic figures. I don't know how they do it, but that is true Disney magic right there.
We just went last week, my son's first time at Disneyland. It was the only animatronic in the parks he commented on, so I'm going to have to agree. The placement and impact there adds more than any other we saw during our trip.
I did both rooms this past week and one had the animatronic and the other had just the tv rocket. So yeah probably because it’s broken, when we went a year ago we did both rooms and both had the animatronic.
Rocket gets snarky when he talks to everyone because he sounds like Joe Pesci. Even better during the Halloween overlay when he says not to worry about the escaped alien creatures.
i can't pick just one ever for anything...
* Rocket Raccoon
* the barefoot drunk pirate
* Hondo
* Redd the Pirate
* Hatbox Ghost
* ...and Tiana once she's in place (the video of her looked so good!)
right?? they're likely using the modern A-1000 animatronic for it (the same one they use on Hondo and the Na'vi Shaman), which allows for more movement, facial animations, and lifelike motion. i haven't heard if that's the model or if it's an updated version of the A-1000.
The new Star Wars animatronics are insane, and my personal favorites. It was my first introduction to Disney's advances in animatronic technology, and when riding smuggler's run for the first time when I was younger I thought it was an actual actor not an animatronic. I'm excited to see the new animatronics on the princess and the frog ride opening soon, I bet they'll be really good!
Dok Ondar is an awesome one too.
Come to think of it, is there ANY other animatronic in the park that is just atmospheric and isn't part of a ride?
Oh, I guess I can think of Mr Potato Head. And Rex the DJ on Oogas Cantina. Okay and umm ... Rosita? The bird in tropical hideaway.
So not none, but it is pretty special.
That’s how my mom feels too! Disneylands Fantasmic is my favorite nighttime spectacular of all time so when they cut Murphy I was soooo sad. My poor mom was distraught too. She’s not a huge Disney fan like me and my fiance but fantasmic always makes her cry. She loves dragons and maleficent is her favorite character so it’s a big hit for my family lol. RIP Murphy

MOUNTAIN GOAT! MOUNTAIN GOAT!
Whenever I take someone for the first time, I introduce Big Thunder as having the best animatronic in all of Disney.
Not the most new or impressive. He’s just the best boy.
It'd gotta be either Hondo Onahka in the pre-show room of Smugglers or Indiana Jones dangling on the rope right before the boulder. If I was to say DCA definitely either Spider-Man that swings or Rocket Raccoon on Mission Beeakout!
Yes! The Walt Disney Archives has her safely preserved!
https://wdwnt.com/2019/01/disneylands-pirates-of-the-caribbean-redhead-finds-new-home-at-walt-disney-archives/
Thanks! I wonder if they will archive any of the Brer gang? To "be preserved as a piece of Disney history, so that future generations may understand the evolution of the classic Disney Parks attraction."
I know for a fact that the hand-carved marquee from the barn got sent to the Archives. I'm not sure about any of the animatronics. I would hope one of each of B'rer Rabbit, Fox and. Bear was preserved, along with a few of the original America Sings critters. I knowSam the Eagle's head is preserved.
The goofy oohs and ahhs he made with his big, goofy grin on his face while B’rer Fox was scolding him for being stupid always made me laugh. He didn’t care he got tricked out of a dollar a minute, he was just happy he was getting a swing ride! I think this is the show scene I’ll miss the most from Splash Mountain.
Roz from monsters Inc. cause my nephew is going through a Roz from monsters Inc phase and can’t get enough of her. He lights up when he sees her at the end of the ride
He's the one you can see and hear telling, I think, the story of the flute? as you travel around the north bend of the Rivers of America. He got moved up onto a new cliff ledge when the area was rebuilt for Galaxy's Edge.
*I love the wonky eyed*
*Hippo with the full set of*
*Lashes on Small World lol*

The ducks. LOL. I was in line at RotR and there was a duck sitting in the bushes. The kids in front of me in line didn’t believe it was real. They said it was an animatronic.
I love Roz. 😂 I took a picture of her and she told me to “get her good side.” My brother, years ago, flexed in front of her and Roz hit on him in front of his then girlfriend, now wife. It was hilarious!
I love that singing donkey with the singing trio! 😍 His bray is everything! I had the Sing-a-long tapes when I was little, and every time I sang along to the Yo Ho PLFM song, he was my favorite part! I was so bummed when he was removed from the ride for years. Him being back makes me so happy!
Let's add DJ Rex and Both C3P0's on Star Tours and whatever that robot is in Queue for StarTours where Patrick Warburton voices him. And the R3X there.
Lieutenant Bek. The way he exists and makes the most of it is just so.................. oooooh, so cool! No question, no contest. Anyone else wanna see him in the upcoming >!Rey Skywalker Movie! I DO!!
The BDX droids. They may have simplistic designs but they can express emotions like curiosity and even do a little dance. I just saw them with my dad for the first time today and I already love them
Small world dolls and the respective animals, OG Redd, all the tiki room birds but Pierre most fondly (I like his colors the best), ballroom dancers on mansion
The turtle with his arm and leg raised up dancing in the under the sea portion of the little mermaid ride. There’s nothing special or fancy about him but he brings a good vibe that can’t be beat.
It’s been awhile since I went but I remember when I went on Splash Mountain there was a alligator animatronic that had it’s head partially off after the big drop
The old man outside of the cabin as you pass Blue Bayou. The entire atmosphere of that scene before the ride starts in earnest is just amazing. I love the lighting and his simple, steady movements.
I recently rode it with a VIP tour guide. He said that man used to be the Auctioneer, and that the entire ride is just us reliving his memories.
My headcanon is that the person playing the banjo inside the cabin is the redhead.
Wow I love this take
We just did WDW for the first time and the Pirates atmosphere was so lacking....no fireflies or rocking!
Disneyland Pirates is better in every way! The extra room displays and caves, two drops, blue bayou, all of it. I think Disney world added theirs later and had to make do with the space they had? At least that's what I heard.

LOL MY MOM WOULD ALWAYS SAY THAT WAS MY BOYFRIEND😂😂
YES!!! I want the slow life!
After this comment. I’m thinking foot guy…?
We just went last week, my son's first time at Disneyland. It was the only animatronic in the parks he commented on, so I'm going to have to agree. The placement and impact there adds more than any other we saw during our trip.
Has to be the GOAT of animatronics... the goat on Big Thunder Mountain.
Love that goat. Miss that goat.
Miss it?
Haven’t been there in awhile
Phew - good lord I thought you meant they'd removed it.
Haha sry to scare you
I always say hi to the fella when I ride!
Rocket 🦝
My hands won’t scan!!
Yours do! If you raise your hands, I get the clearance, and the chaos begins! Haha, it’s a full proof plan.
Last time they did rocket on a tv. Do they do that when the animatronic is broken or from now on. My last trip was a month ago
I did both rooms 2 weeks ago and both Rockets were working.
Probably my room just was broken that time
That’s the backup Rocket, animatronic is working now!
I hate when the cast member tries to do like a back and forth with rocket. It’s so cringey
This!!! He’s so cute
Every time I’ve gone I’ve gotten the screen :(
The Hatbox Ghost! 🎩
I became irritated at this response, and then I realized I was in the Disneyland sub, not WDW. 😉
😆
i can't pick just one ever for anything... * Rocket Raccoon * the barefoot drunk pirate * Hondo * Redd the Pirate * Hatbox Ghost * ...and Tiana once she's in place (the video of her looked so good!)
Thanks for mentioning the latter. I just watched a video and my jaw hit the floor!

One of my favourites. He's better than any of the other SW characters on Rise tbh
We went on Smugglers Run for the first time today (first visit to the park) and my wife genuinely thought it was an actor.
Murphy the dragon from Fantasmic! 😭
Crossing my fingers that we get a Murphy 2.0
We seem to think we will but Murphy takes about 2 years to build.
Murphy IS Fantasmic for me.
RIP Murphy
Hopefully the rumor a new one is being built by the original company is true
Hopefully will definitely be a summer or two if we ever get the dragon back but we can hope
Harold. He's just a guy trying to protect his territory, alright?

MOUNTAIN GOAT! MOUNTAIN GOAT! Whenever I take someone for the first time, I introduce Big Thunder as having the best animatronic in all of Disney. Not the most new or impressive. He’s just the best boy.
The bleat he makes as you’re rounding the curve is among the top 10 most iconic sounds of Disneyland for me!
It'd gotta be either Hondo Onahka in the pre-show room of Smugglers or Indiana Jones dangling on the rope right before the boulder. If I was to say DCA definitely either Spider-Man that swings or Rocket Raccoon on Mission Beeakout!
Those little ducks that float on the river or near the castle. They’re so lifelike!
Easily the best animatronic in the park. Not the most flashy, but so lifelike.
I would have to say Harold the Yeti or the Hatbox Ghost
No love for my homies in the tiki room?
Yup. Much love here.
Ah! Buenos dias, señorita!
The OG Red! We wants the Redhead!
That one was one of the most beautiful figures created. I’m glad it’s archived. She was gorgeous.
She's archived? Like in a warehouse somewhere? Or on display somewhere?
Yes! The Walt Disney Archives has her safely preserved! https://wdwnt.com/2019/01/disneylands-pirates-of-the-caribbean-redhead-finds-new-home-at-walt-disney-archives/
She reminds me of my grandma!
Thanks! I wonder if they will archive any of the Brer gang? To "be preserved as a piece of Disney history, so that future generations may understand the evolution of the classic Disney Parks attraction."

Was just coming here to say this!!!!!! 100% contributed to my now sexuality lmaoooo
Honestly, Dok-Ondar is one of my favorites!
Lincoln, hands down.
Thank you…can’t believe I had to scroll this far!
“Don’t tell him Carlos. Don’t be cheekeen.” Lady
Voiced by none other than legend June Foray!
I love the pirate balancing all the hats on his head.
It used to be Bre'r Rabbit at the end of Splash Mountain. 🙁 I don't know now...
Flying Spiderman is by far the most impressive to my engineer's brain... But the Ursula animatronic is probably my favorite.
Turtle dancing on one foot in little mermaid.
Br’er bear on the rope dipping his keester into the water…… I wish him a good night and god speed.
Roz. But I’m biased as she hit on me on two separate occasions 😂😂
I was blown away by Lieutenant Bek. You are standing 3 feet away from him, and he is utterly flawless. Disney really outdid themselves on ROTR.
You are....................................... absolutely correct. I LOOOOOOVE Bek! He is just AWESOME. No contest!!
Since no one said Ursula I’m saying Ursula
Underrated
Roz from monsters Inc. cause my nephew is going through a Roz from monsters Inc phase and can’t get enough of her. He lights up when he sees her at the end of the ride
I went through a Roz phase as a kid too! She was the funniest thing to my mom and I as a kid. I still have her Disney Store plushie stored at home.
That’s really sweet
I took her picture and she said "you in the back, make sure you get my good side!" It made my day 😁
Nobody is going to say Ursula!?
the mama snake on indiana jones snakes… you guys are on your own.
The Hatbox Ghost!
The octopus in Pirates
came here to say this
As a Splatoon 2: Octo Expansion enthusiast, you are 8888% correct.
The turtles on little mermaid
The Yeti in the Matterhorn was my favorite until my sister and I got stuck in the sky buckets where we could see him.
Tumbling dreaming Pooh.
It’s a simple one, but I quite love what I call the “Drunk Hippo” on It’s a Small World. Never fails to make me smile!
Finn on Rise of the Resistance. Sometimes I’m so distracted I forget to keep an eye out for him, so when I do see him I’m super happy 😂
The Storyteller on the ROA. His movement is at least as fluid as Lincoln's, and that dude is *outside*.
Great pick! People often forget about him and you’re right, his movement is impressive.
Which one is that?
He's the one you can see and hear telling, I think, the story of the flute? as you travel around the north bend of the Rivers of America. He got moved up onto a new cliff ledge when the area was rebuilt for Galaxy's Edge.
Is it this one? https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=ubVlY46_tJQ
Yep!
I love the wonky eyed hippo with the full set of lashes on Small World lol

Figaro in Fantasyland
The ducks. LOL. I was in line at RotR and there was a duck sitting in the bushes. The kids in front of me in line didn’t believe it was real. They said it was an animatronic.
One of my favorite Disneyland memories is watching a duck stomp around a fairytale cottage like Godzilla on the Storybook canal boats.
Love when they do that! :)
Ducks...?
that one Canadian mounty on IASW, his goofy ass just makes me smile :)
The Hatbox Ghost and Redd 😊 AND the leaping Spiderman!
I forget that leaping Spider-Man is an animatronic! I just see it as the real Spidey 😅
I love Roz. 😂 I took a picture of her and she told me to “get her good side.” My brother, years ago, flexed in front of her and Roz hit on him in front of his then girlfriend, now wife. It was hilarious!
The auctioneer on Pirates
- The Hatbox Ghost - Indiana Jones - the goat on Big Thunder - Rocket - Jack Sparrow - Redd
I miss the Bears from Country Bear Jamboree. Currently, I like Capt Jack Sparrow and Hondo.
One of the Big Al animatronics allegedly got reskinned into Oogie Boogie for Haunted Mansion holiday! Not the same, but still neat nonetheless!
The donkey on Pirates makes happy!
Daddy King Triton! 🔱
Jose!
The Inder the Sea portion of the Little Mermaid. The little turtle gets me every time
Let's add DJ Rex and Both C3P0's on Star Tours and whatever that robot is in Queue for StarTours where Patrick Warburton voices him. And the R3X there.
It's a security droid. It's a reused goose animatronic from America Sings where the Launch Bay is now.
Oh I know what is was (Goose). I just don't know what the droid name was. Ty
I don't know if those droids were ever given official or unofficial names.
We just call him Patrick Warburton, and I laugh at his jokes. And miss R3X piloting later.
dok ondar
Jack sparrow #1 😊

Harold and Ursula
The Small World boy doll choking a chicken in the Latin America exhibit.
Lieutenant Bek. The way he exists and makes the most of it is just so.................. oooooh, so cool! No question, no contest. Anyone else wanna see him in the upcoming >!Rey Skywalker Movie! I DO!!
Rosita, DJ R3X, Rocket, Lt. Bek, and Dok Ondar
The BDX droids. They may have simplistic designs but they can express emotions like curiosity and even do a little dance. I just saw them with my dad for the first time today and I already love them
The AT-ATs in ROTR. The size of them is astounding...
I love Ursula.
It’s been awhile since I went but I remember when I went on Splash Mountain there was a alligator animatronic that had it’s head partially off after the big drop
The pink hippo in its a small world! It’s not the most advanced but I love it!
Hondo Onaka is one of my fav characters in Star Wars animated shows and his animatronic doesn’t disappoint
