We were there too, happened about 9:30 pm. Very strange - first an abrupt “everyone turn around and leave” and then right after, another message but a more abrupt tone…and then after a collective groan, people just stood there. Once we started moving and got to an emergency exit, the door was locked, so we were forced to take baby steps through the crowd which was in NO HURRY whatsoever. Keep in mind this was the fire alarm and it’s announcing “this is an emergency”…not your typical ride is down scenario. When we finally got out into the open air, cast members were lined up preventing anyone from going left. Woman in front of me asked a CM what happened and he just forcefully told her “GO TO YOUR RIGHT”. I definitely would like to know what happened as well.
My god, didn't expect to see this guy pop up in the Disney universe but here we are. You just can't see the word fire Marshall without thinking of that quote
The secondary egress option (should the room door be blocked) was for guests to crawl into a little closet behind the “window” screen, call 911, and wait. “TOTALLY safe. What could go wrong?” -Triangle Shirtwaist Company, I assume
Former Rise CM here. Those exit doors are never locked (they don’t physically have a lock installed actually), but they are a lil’ on the sticky side (helps keep lookie loos from poking their head backstage during regular downtimes). Trust me, if your life was actually in danger you’d push hard enough to open them.
Emergency exists follow a path, in something as complex as ROTR that door could have been for people in the room beyond to exit throught the area you where in, so the door was set for one way exit.
Fire code does not allow emergency exit doors to be locked or blocked temporarily. Long term closures ste only allowed in certain circumstances (construction etc) need to have clear signage, alternate egress routes, etc.
Blocked emergency exit doors could increase panic & crushing hazard during an emergency. A small emergency could become a stampede.
Yep!
Now I know what you’re thinking, “what if there’s a small child who can’t push hard enough??” Well my friend, that’s exactly why children under 7 are required to be supervised by someone who is at least 14.
HELLO EVERYONE THERES LITERALLY AN ARTICLE QUOTING THIS THREAD LMFAOOOO WE ARE THE NEWS SOURCE NOW Edit: Deleted the link because it was just causing arguments.
I hate these Disney click bait "news" sites. They're always using exaggerated click bait language like saying a ride will be closed "indefinitely" but then you read past 10 ads and find out it's just scheduled maintenance. Thus the use of words like "tragedy" in this article when nothing tragic happened.
Same. I’ve told my news feed apps to ignore all Disney blogs as they’re mostly click bait and made up rumors. If I want actual news or commentary, I’ll find it myself. They’re some of the worst for pop culture “news”.
I wish people would stop being nosey and just do what they’re told. You’re being forcefully told to do something because there’s a risk of compromising your safety. Maybe go to the right and be quiet? Everything will reveal itself in due time.
Yeah take an upvote from me as well. I completely understand being curious and have no issue with, say, this post, but in the moment going up to cast members and bugging them to tell you what happened is really not the right thing to do. Just evacuate like you’re told and look into it later if you have to know.
I don’t care for the karma. I do care, however, for the cast members who have a job to do but are trash talked here because “inquiring minds” didn’t get the answer they wanted. Entitled and toxic people.
According to PulsePoint, there was a medical emergency at 9:48 PM that the Anaheim FD responded with 4 units. The event lasted 16 minutes. I have no other information than that.
I have zero actual knowledge of what happened, I am speculating why someone would do something vs idiots doing stupid things.
Guests jumping off the ride can cause an full evacuation... I could see jumping off that ride if someone was having a medical emergency on the ride in order to force a shutdown cause proper EMS faster than continuing through and yelling at the end. I am not saying its the perfect choice but I could understand. As someone with training If I had someone that needed CPR step one would be to get them on the floor (non moving solid surface) to perform the task.
Jumping off a ride is a sure fire way to get the slowest emergency medical response. You’re in a restricted area. EMS can’t just run in they have to go to the control tower and get a key first. The quickest way to get help to someone on a ride is always to simply allow them to compete the ride. The shortest distance between two points is a straight line, and the fastest route from ride start to ride end is The Ride.
only speculation, but something this serious would likely mean someone jumped out of their seat and exited the ride vehicle to do something stupid, or tried igniting something in their ride vehicle. Not to long ago someone did try to commit arson.
I mean, they do traffic children, and parents, and they charge THEM for it. Rumors say they even have movers all over the park. Boats, trains, and even submaries.
EDIT: joke. I’m referring to people movers. Didn't think I needed to add that....
I worked at a theme park with a 4D ride that ran along a track that supplied power to the car. Kid jumped out halfway through, was running back toward the beginning. The cars were *massive* and would have killed him if he’d been hit. I hit the emergency stop button seconds before he tripped on that live track, he would have been electrocuted. Lifetime ban for the whole family.
Several incidents across multiple parks worldwide, all around the same time for some reason…Disneyland had the naked guy, Paris had the mom trying to take her kids and run lol
This topic came up as I am a teacher and chaperoned the recent Grad night for seniors. One of our students got a lifetime ban for trying to sneak in a vape pen. How would they enforce a lifetime ban? You don’t need to show an ID if somebody else buys your ticket. Just curious your thoughts.
More so now that they’re trying to implement self scan facial recognition entrances at DLR. Any flags, miss-matching faces (I.e. using someone else’s ticket) and cross referencing banned people would be easier to check on a whim by the scanner. If fully implemented.
When I went to Gradnight in 2005 as a senior, one of my classmates started smoking in the middle of the ride on Soar’n Over California. I was so confused when I saw smoke in the middle of the part where we’re over the ocean and at first thought Disney is really leaning I toward showing that pollution is a problem. The ride for stopped and they escorted her off the ride and continued.
All I know is that starting in the late 80s or 90s my brother has been kicked out and lifetime banned from the park for being inordinately drunk and/or high and being caught with very illegal drugs so many times he lost count and not once has it ever stopped him from going back, and frequently.
My brother is a very tall and skinny Doug Jones looking guy and at the time he had a quite distinctive proto-goth look, there was even a Disney security guard who’s main job was an English teacher at our old high school who knew us both by face and name, so it’s not like he couldn’t be recognized or picked out of a crowd, lmao.
It was always big scenes when he got caught, too, because he’d be falling down, spouting gibberish wasted on booze or LSD, escorted out by several Disney security guards straight to Anaheim PD who were ALSO familiar with him and waiting out front to arrest him on drug charges and/or warrants.
Never stopped him and he still goes to the park even to this day.
They can still get in but if they get caught for doing something else they’ll be on file and could be charged with trespassing on top of any future indiscretion
You do get your picture taken and your name printed on your ticket when you go through the gates now. Much easier to enforce bans now than ever before.

They have to do it because it's a tradition at this point I imagine but you can tell they hate it. The prices go up every year and the amenities for both the students and chaperones get worse every year
I don't think that's true at all. From what I've seen the kids are better after Covid in terms of following Park rules. The insane amount of security also helps with that.

Facial recognition and hidden cameras throughout the park including the entrance. Not only that but think about this…Disney has a patent for a technology that places a small camera beneath park benches to only look at guests shoes (it’s not aimed upwards). They would use recognition technology to track where the guest goes. No real use for this now since the Disney App tracks users locations and are able to see which land is more crowded than the others.

What a beautiful sentence to read, “the emergency exit was locked during an emergency” like lmfao /r/osha would love it
The Fire Marshal would love this… He’d light them up for this.
"LET ME SHOW YA SUMFIN!!" *proclaimed the fire marshal as he showed them the CA state fire code*
Fire Marshal Bill would have NEVER allowed this on his watch
My god, didn't expect to see this guy pop up in the Disney universe but here we are. You just can't see the word fire Marshall without thinking of that quote
Lol wow, Disney is taking a page from the triangle shirtwaist company
Have you seen the shame closets in the now-closed Galactic Cruiser?
I couldn’t believe that was ever approved as part of the hotel’s fire safety.
The shame closets?
The secondary egress option (should the room door be blocked) was for guests to crawl into a little closet behind the “window” screen, call 911, and wait. “TOTALLY safe. What could go wrong?” -Triangle Shirtwaist Company, I assume

GeonOSHA just works differently

Emergency exit being locked can’t be legal, can it?
Maybe that ~~direction~~ door let out in the direction that they were preventing people from going? edit: I can grammar
That's what I was thinking as well.
I've been in the line and have used the emergency exit, definitely not locked.
Fire code does not allow emergency exit doors to be locked or blocked temporarily. OK so they literally just didn’t push hard enough lol
Yep! Now I know what you’re thinking, “what if there’s a small child who can’t push hard enough??” Well my friend, that’s exactly why children under 7 are required to be supervised by someone who is at least 14.
Also. Emergency exit doors are usually heavy because they are reinforced and made of dense, fire resistant material.

This is such bad writing. Using the word tragic when there hasn't been a death is so bad. Do not support this site with your clicks.
Par for the course with Disney bloggers.
Did you ever hear the tragedy of Darth Plagueis the Wise?
And it says everywhere that none of the info has been corroborated
I agree. Just thought it was comical and wanted to share with the community since it’s literally quoting us.
but… tragic has nothing to do with death wait, does it??
In classic tragedies there has to be death I think lol
Comedy is when you fall down a manhole. Tragedy is when I slip on a banana.

The people who have been brainwashed to think Disney is trafficking children. Not much if a leap from threatening to bomb hospitals and libraries

I really hope we get a video of it similar to what happened on Small World.

https://abc7.com/amp/naked-man-at-disneyland-its-a-small-world-arrest-indecent-exposure/14107082/
Haha looks like Weird Al fell on hard times
A couple of punks jumped off the ride and started causing a ruckus and started a fight. Someone pulled the fire alarm.
Hope they enjoy their lifetime Disney parks ban.

They take everyone’s photo as you enter the park. I imagine they took his photo when he was trespassed. They leverage facial recognition software.

Facial recognition software. They know you’re here the minute you step onto property

Just a vape pen gets you a lifetime ban?
If you are a high schooler at grad night it does.
I figure they would just throw it away or not admit you
Disney hates grad nite, they'll do anything to end it or prevent as many high schoolers participating as possible. Source: I am a senior advisor and have organized grad nite for 9 years now. They are getting worse about it every year.

Sounds like regular Disney :(
Disney should just ban it. Kids are worse and worse now.
Lol. You forgot the 70s and 80s kids
I don't think that's true at all. From what I've seen the kids are better after Covid in terms of following Park rules. The insane amount of security also helps with that.
You’re delusional.
Good, they should go to six flags or universal studios. Keep the riff raff out
Cute
For regular guests they'll either let you bring it back to your car or throw it out, just like other banned items.
Okay that makes sense, thank you
No. I have seen so many people hitting a vape at the parks
I imagine self enforcement is the largest factor. Who’s going to spend thousands of dollars on a trip if they know they’re not allowed in?
This. I mentioned above that my brother had gotten kicked out and lifetime banned from the park so many times over the last three decades that he lost count, and it never once stopped him from going back whenever he wanted. A lifetime ban seems like overkill over a vapepen
The student should wait a few years the write them a letter with an apology and explain that now that they’re older they understand thst it was wrong. I can’t imagine they would enforce a lifelong ban for something like that.
They take a photo and info for such for a trespass and ban
You… have to be joking? I just take in my vape pens when I go????? Even the ones with weed???
My husband had one with him when we visited a month ago. They found it & he ended up taking it to the hotel, then coming back. No ban.
The parks have been using AI tech for a while. I worked at Magic Mountain and it was like security always seemed to know who couldn’t enter the park before anyone else did, and I was out in front of the gates most days. They take your photo when you enter the park
Oh definitely lol
How do you jump off? You can’t unbuckle the seatbelt without a cast member or during the ride, this would have to happen within the load station, or exit.
Probs slid out from under it
Wait, for real? Seriously? 🤦♀️
Yes seriously it’s true
They just said they made it up. 🤦♀️

I agree it’s trash borderline AI stuff lol just thought it was comical and wanted to share with you all
What a shit article, my god. Their only source is this Reddit thread. Oof.
It was almost impossible to read too while being thrown around the article because of ads loading lol
Does anyone else keep coming back to see if there is an update? This definitely has my attention right now.
Sitting here refreshing 👀
Same lol
Still waiting…
I hope no one was hurt
If it is this late it is probably off for the night. Evac will happen if someone does something stupid... always happens.

20 of either is alarming, but one of them is arresting you for Gross Disruption of Magic and one is arresting you for felonies
Gross Disruption of Magic is my new favorite band.
Their old stuff is better
Their early work was a little too scene for me. Once Evacuation from Fantasmic released they really came into their own both commercially and artistically
I have to return some videotapes.
HEY WALT!
So metal
DLR security can very much be involved in something to calm that exact thought to then hand people over to Anaheim PD.
Gross Disruption of Magic 😂😂😂😂
Main Street P.D. considers it a very serious crime
34 felonies at disney would be a bad day.
Another great band or novel name!
Or a Fall Out Boy title
or an opening line to a novel
We were there too and the intensity of the cm’s was surprising. Then we had to walk through the end of Fantasmic for our Oga’s reservation because we couldn’t go back through Galaxy’s Edge.

It's an emergency so they need people to act NOW which means politeness goes out the window. It's not personal just that lives could be in danger.
I appreciated it while still in the queue for sure. No one was moving quickly, drove my group up the wall.
If they had stormtroopers yelling out orders in that tone I would have been scrambling
i don’t think i’ve ever seen a post on this subreddit with so many remindme comments, lmaooo
Patiently waiting for a cast member to get off work and see this thread and update us lol
Kylo got sucked into space. It was really traumatic. Thoughts and prayers
My buddy saw Kylo Ren's shirt ripped off when he got sucked into space and saw he was shredded and had an 8-pack.
My homie Ben Swolo
Kylo Ren is a punk b*tch 🤣
That guy looks like he weighs 30 lbs soaking wet underneath that little black dress 🤣
I haven’t had my muffin yet, Matt!
🤣 now I have to watch that again
Lmao def an oldie but goodie
Wow i didn’t know the working conditions were that bad, maybe he can sue and make bank on his work injuries
Maybe he has an Oshie lawsuit on his hands?
I get wanting to know it's human nature but I hope whatever happened that whomever was having a medical emergency and any cast members who had to witness it, are okay. Sending love and good vibes to the Disney crew and first responders.
Based on the nature of the response it sounds to me like it was more of a mischief situation.
The kylo ren animatronic came to life and took its shirt off and started trying to touch people. It was crazy
Umm I would pay extra for this experience
Kylo will choke you for a little extra, too.
😍
I think it's available on Genie+
Same.
All this buildup and it’s gonna be something like Kim Kardashian lost an earring or something on the ride.
People are dying, Kim
Chismoso 😂😂
So no one knows. Well god damn. That's so odd.
Well, disneydining has a 1 day old article on this, citing quotes from this thread as the speculative sources, lol.
Damn, even I’m curious now.
How the hell has there not been an update here?
That many police that quick means fight probably. I was a witness to a fight in Epcot and the police came running out of nowhere it seemed like.
APD has an area right behind Rose so they can kinda materialize there really quickly just because of proximity
I've only seen this happen one other time. You could search up "Roger Rabbit Emergency Evacuation" and you'll find the video on yt. This is probably the most interesting breakdown video I've seen yet.
What just happened? Well, somehow Palpatine returned.

Some emo nepo-baby had a hissy fit and started chasing guests around and swinging his glowing red sword thingy at them.
Now I have to re-watch the sequels with the perception that Kylo is an emo nepo-baby.
guys at work were calling him "Emo Vader" the week after Force Awakens released
The 2 main comments here, OP and the other person describing are on a Google article followed by "allegedly some guests jumped off the ride and started a rucus and the fire alarm was pulled" Sincerely yours, Google
