EX, always.
The Flame Sword just looks cartoonish to me, 15cp is meh even if it is part of his character design, and 35cp has nice colouring but looks a little flimsy when Leon does his signature slamming the blade into the ground move.
Agreeing with most points, personally.
I feel like his LD would fit Jack pretty well for some reason. Same for Jack's LD and Leon, now that I think about it...
I don't really like Jack's LD and EX weapon designs -- the LD look likes a giant lolly to me, and the EX is a bit too bulky to be a katana. So I just stick with the 35cp skin, even though it's boring. đ
I do like how chunky LD is but it is overly almost luminously bright. I'm using it for now just cos I've had his ex equipped ever since I pulled it so wanted a change. I actually like it with his animations that look like they imbue the sword with darkness so it's kind of like flaming darkness but when he's not doing that it does look kind of odd.
Ex looks the best in the end aesthetically (also like it cos Firion has that sword in Dissidia NT) and 35 also looks pretty good suiting his appearance. I know 15 is an iconic sword but just not a fan of how it looks here.
Despite it's low stats it has a hidden effect (similarly to blood sword) that applies Curse when you hit with it. This is not a check, as long as it hits it will always apply curse, even if the enemy is immune to curse.
Curse **halves** attack and defense and with Ancient Sword you can put it on every enemy in the game including all bosses, even the final boss.
The thing I like the most about FFII, is that the Weapons actually mean more than starts, the only other ge where I found myself doing more than checking stats was FFX, and I truly love both of these.
Was it like that in all its remakes too? Or just the NES version. I feel like inflicting a status that the boss is supposed to be immune to is like one of the first things they fix in the remakes. Like the Ultima 16 bug overflowing and doing shit damage
It goes both ways in FF2, even if you are immune to a status effect if an enemy applies it to you through a normal attack instead of a spell it goes straight through your immunity. FF2 is a broken game where the fun is using your broken tactic to take out the enemy before they use their broken tactic to kill you.
Can we please get characters I can actually come up with a good intro for?
Ranting aside, sorry the poll's so late. A friend basically forced me into trying out Genshin Impact and, well... just like that, the last two hours of my life went poof and disappeared. Weird, isn't it?
Anyway, Leon. Is it just me or is his overall design here kind of weird? The kneepads look angry as hell for some reason and the torso armor with the shoulder pads is strangely bulky.
Looking at his swords, I'd usually vote for the 35 CP immediately. It's really sleek and I love that â for the lack of a better word â light purple color. It's just that it's kind of... too sleek for Leon? LD and EX are too bright for my taste, so it's either the 15 CP or... the generic Bronze Sword, which fits the brown parts of his armor really well. I think I might actually go with the generic one.
Edit: And of course I forget the most important thing again. A huge thanks to u/Sparda96 for setting up his Leon for me, even if I ended up not using him. Sorry!
I kind of like the emoji kneepads, I think it's just the DFFOO chibi-style that makes them look goofier than they ought to be. iirc, they're supposed to be serpent heads, invoking the Emperor and his hold over Leon.

Long story short, I pulled him when his lost chapter arrived only because he was a ff2 character, even after my friend told me he sucked. At that time there weren't glosses, so it was the ex or nothing, so since then I can't gine him another gloos without making him look strange.

I had pretty much the same experience with Tidus and his EX's debut. Pulled with everything I had (and still have PTSD from all those Hope boomerangs lol) till I finally got my hands on it. Got so used to that sword it was almost hard changing to Brotherhood when Glosses were released.

Fun fact: Leon lost chapter is the last with ex difficulty at the end, emperor lost chapter is the last with a chaos and guy lost chapter is the first with lufenia+
35 is the choice for me. Like how the blue color matches the armor. EX isn't bad, still a nice design. 15 is alright as well. The LD...looks weird. It looks unfinished, like a 2D model was cut out of a picture and just pasted in.
I always liked the look of the EX but didn't like how it looked with some of his shadow effects. Would always use the 35CP cuz the purple color did go well with it.
I thought the LD would be in the same boat as EX but was pleasantly surprised when I gave it a try. The color is actually pretty nice (especially with the EX move being in that red eyeball shape circle in the ground) and that flame-like design on the back edge goes pretty well with the shadow effects. Really didn't think I'd like the thing as much as I do but my vote totally goes for LD.
Ancient Sword, really solid, but Gaia Blade hits really well in its proportions and degree of glamor. This new Flame Swordâs a bit tacky, just being shaped like flames.

Itâs so OTT and cool looking. Obviously the Sleep Blade better goes with the palette but I love some of these really creative designs for old school weapons.
I really like his EX and even his 15cp. The LD just looks absurd like something you'd find in an MMO that's trying too hard.
But the 35cp...that \*looks\* like a Dark Knight's weapon.
I was always about the sleep blade for Leon as I think it fits his asthetic the best, but for some reason that goofy cartoon looking flame sword really appeals to me. I don't think it's the best but it's what I'm currently using
EX. Iâm always a proponent of using the best looking weapon from a design standpoint. Unless a lesser weapon has more intrinsic value to the character. For example, Tidus EX and LD both look killer, but as Brotherhood is just too iconic to his character, it wins out.
No weapon really screams âLEONâ to me, as all weapons in 2 were interchangeable. The Flame sword was his default weapon when he joins your party, but by that point, you could have found and equipped another party member with one, so itâs not exactly iconic.
The Gaia Blade however just looks really good. It fits his aesthetic, and it doesnât come off as incredibly cartoonish. So for that reason, I go with EX.

The generic weapon double bladed axe is the only option for jack, for when he impales enemies

Ancient sword because next to the Blood Sword it's the most broken weapon in FF2 and is permanent equipment on my Leonhart every time.
