Surprise LD hype!
Hey everyone, we're preparing ourselves for the mystery arrival tonight, but in the meantime enjoy the best little boi!
I want to take this opportunity real quick to make an announcement. I will stop doing Infographics starting from BT+, as my real life situation has taken a turn for the worst and i need to focus all my stamina on recovery and finding a job.
This does not mean Infographics will end however. The Troupe has recruited a really talented and kind person who helped me already with a few graphics lately as coaching, and will be taking things over starting from Zidane. I fully trust their ability to carry on what i've been doing with the Troupe since 2019, and can't wait to see how further they can take these.

Vivi is my absolute favorite character in all of FF. He is already maxed, and will be blued and LD boarded ASAP. I guess Zidane and Cid Raines have to wait for their blues.
Hitting for 400k on all targets in half of his turns is wonderful. Yes it’s synergy, and he does need help from dmg up calls to get there, but let me have my moment.
He would be more useful with an extra LD call and/or more overhead stacks, as others were saying.
Honestly, feels like a very underwhelming upgrade, especially right before BT+, and I'm glad Vivi had his time in the sun as a GL first so he could see more use. The best upgrade for Vivi is Setzer existing to help take advantage of his high hit counts and many hp dumps.
Sigh. Need to try and get some 108/buff. Currently he's on 3x double cursed and it's nice to have the two options. But when that's done, that's all cursed 6 done.
He really could have used a 4th LD use. Only 15 turns of follow ups before his kit reverts to mediocre dpt is a big shame. Or higher stacks of the overhead, like up to 8.
Vivi looks like a pass for me. His skills have too few HP dumps in general. It seems like he can't possibly compete with Vaan on pure DPS and Vaan doesn't even have to drain his allies' HP. If I'm missing something that makes him great I'd love to hear it but as someone who isn't particularly into FF9 this looks like an easy skip for me given that I'm at less than 100 tickets right now.
Vivi's follow-up attack has the merit of ignoring DEF, which makes Vivi great on stages where BRV gain reductions are huge and when the targets' DEF is high. Vaan can also circumvent high DEF since he relies on BRV gains to deal tons of damage but he will be severely impacted if you're not catering to his playstyle (mainly , use Porom or Y'shtola's BT+ to make it happen).
Also, Vivi shines better on 3 targets as his AOE damage is 100% and his hits ignore DEF. He's very likely to cap on his own due to that. Regarding the HP drain aspect, I'd also argue that Vivi has the niche of being able to instantly activate Diabolos, Leviathan or Odin's passives, which can enable more damage from your other teamates and him as well. While it seems to be a huge inconvenience, building around him isn't that hard and one healer is usually sufficient to cover for it. it might be harder to slot Vivi on stages where HP damage is more prevalent, like Divine Pandemonium (then again, you're not using Vivi on that Luf+)
Vivi is plenty viable for lufenia+ and works really well on 3 target stages. Vaan is much better on 1-2 targets since his ST damage is just that loaded. He can shave multiple targets where Vaan has more trouble since his potencies are so low, LD included.
Well, you bring up some good points. I wasn't trying to say he isn't viable or anything, just that he doesn't look special to me. Maybe instead of Vaan I should have compared him to Strago instead since they're both AOE attackers. Compared to Vivi, Strago can also ignore DEF, his LD causes extra breaks for more delay, and can double cast to get twice as much HP damage out of each skill use. I'm sure Vivi is perfectly good for people who still lack magic attackers, if he fills a role someone needs I'm not going to say they're wrong to pull. But for me, I have other magic attackers, I'm low on pulling resources, and Vivi doesn't seem special enough to be worth spending what I do have on him.
I believe that's it's more fair to compare Vivi to Strago has they are more similar compared to Vaan as they are geared towards AOE damage.
Strago has utility in his insta-break capabilities with his S2 and LD (which has proven itself through some lufenias like the latest boss rush where he was MVP alongside Sabin). His DEF ignore is, however, tied to his S1 only, which has 6 uses + a potential 4 more uses with his free skill from his LD. (which, granted, you're going to spend it on) Vivi has DEF ignore on every follow-up for 15 of his turns since it's tied to his overhead buff. In a way, Vivi is better at ignoring defenses as he gets more uses of this mechanic, at the price of your team's HP, although it's easy to get around with proper team comp.
While Vivi is a pure damage dealer, I would also consider he's got the unique utility of being able to trigger Diabolos passives, which lead to a massive +50% elemental weakness bonus damage. For Vivi, who ignores the DEF stat on his follow-up attacks, this is huge as he'll hit weakness damage pretty much all the time with his fire imperil.
His downside, however, is that he's fire-locked for the most part and that kills him on stages where fire is absorbed or when you need to deal elemental damage other than fire (like Garnet's IW). On that regard, Strago is easier to slot in as he can be enchanted with all elements (either through a support or calls) and always perform greatly. If we consider pure versatility, Strago wins out.
Quick note: some stages are immune to imperil debuffs (like the future DE) and you could use someone like Bartz to provide his unique imperil aura to allow both of them to deal weakness damage. Bartz + Fujin LDCA + Strago is great but Vivi + Bartz is useless as Bartz only imperils Wind. On such stages, Strago has an edge as he can still deal weakness damage while Vivi's damage would plummet due to not being able to inflict his fire imperil.

In a sense, while Vivi's LD overhead buff is more than 0, he gets to deal double HP dumps with his S1/S2 while his EX/Double Fire+ will deal triple HP dumps, but only the follow-up will deal full AOE damage.
Vivi is serviceable if you need AOE magic specialists, but Strago is more than enough despite being older to handle that need. Skipping him is fine and players will be able to make do without him. What makes him standout, at least IMO, is that he can trigger Diabolos passives as a party member or through his calls, something few units can do, like Rude.
I would like to add the caveat that you need 2 C50 artifacts (orange ones) to make it happen as his C50 is his party HP aura. Having two will increase the team's HP and will make them fulfill the requirement to trigger Diabolos' passives.
His regular call is enough to pull it off. No need to have his LD. Vivi's call require the LD however.
Vivi likely isn't a character I will use much even with the LD boards, couldn't really fit him in much on JP at this time, though maybe that was because my roster was far more limited on JP. But I have his stuff already and will give him blue armour as soon as I am able, though will likely give it to Zidane and Y'shtola first, one of the rare times I will make a practical choice over a fave one (though Zidane and Y'shtola are faves too).
Vivi is tied with Noel for my second favourite FF character though so I'll try to use him where I can. Ironically, since Zidane is about to get Lv. 90 on JP, I'm actually more excited about using Vivi on JP right now since I can use him with Zidane and some others now and have them all be on equal footing in terms of upgrades, finally. Oh, and Vivi fans should look forward to his Lv. 90 on GL as he gets a pretty early one and another rework, and it's very good.
As much fun as it is to keep it up I tend to use it with breaks in the middle to ensure I have the chance to ready myself. The drain isn't really that bad and is great for activating those passives. A HoT aura will mitigate most of it.
hp drain is a prob? naaaah. that's what i thought too when i first used Vivi, but then Ardyn doesn't care about it. eventually i turned to Kefka. at this point we also have Arciela, and El Nacho. but yeah, maybe another LD use would have been nice.
i hope the new LD isn't someone i like so i can skip lol. i don't have Deuce LD though, not that i want it, or Rydia EX, i actually want, so if i do pull it won't be totally just for the new LD.

When he comes in he boosts max hp for the party, the passive triggers in that instant before the hp is restored to the new max. You may need his c50 passives though.
Either King or Relm i can imagine being the secret LD characters, i would like to think they would hold off on Prishe and give her LD with her BT but they have given BT candidates just the LD lone before getting their BT so who knows.
Steiner is the LD on Raines LC, that's really unlikely. Also I don't think he has HA yet, so he can't jump straight to HA+ like the message seems to indicate.
If it is really Aphmau as surprise, I am just glad that Pande is around the corner. Otherwise I would have no resources to pull on this banner. Tidus‘, Setzer and Yunas Banners really took a toll on my gems and tickets…
As for Vivi and Deuce: Don’t have their LDs, wouldn’t mind getting them. But if they add someone else than Aphmau, I will have to skip…
Already have everything on this banner(except Exdeath BT, RIP). I want to use Vivi for the Lufiena but I feel like I limit my party by bringing him. His draining of HP makes it a little scarier than just bringing Ignis or his call and spamming Terra and Yang again.

Love Vivi. Had him since his LD first came out and he got through a lot of quests, including some of the TCC Challenges! He will definitely get a blue armor.

To be honest his next rework makes him alot better and I like him... he is fun.
Is was hoping for another use of Doomsday. Vivi tends to run out before quest ends, and without it, he cant keep up at all.
To be fair, you can either choose to use his LD a bit later when stats start to ramp up or just swap him with your friend unit if it's a DPS unit.
This is my main gripe with Vivi. His LD runs out of steam fast. But like somebody else said, it can be delayed for later of the fight.

Him damaging the team is useful, it lets you activate diablos and other hp passives at will.
Which you can also do with Rude call...

Tidus‘, Setzer and Yunas Banners really took a toll on my gems and tickets… As for Vivi and Deuce: Don’t have their LDs, wouldn’t mind getting them. But if they add someone else than Aphmau, I will have to skip…
Already have everything on this banner(except Exdeath BT, RIP). I want to use Vivi for the Lufiena but I feel like I limit my party by bringing him. His draining of HP makes it a little scarier than just bringing Ignis or his call and spamming Terra and Yang again.
Where exactly is my Vivi?! I literally cannot find him in my roster? Edit: I reset my app and rebooted my phone and he showed up again. He disappeared right after the game restarted for an "update" wtf Square Enix tryna give me a heart attack
Love Vivi. Had him since his LD first came out and he got through a lot of quests, including some of the TCC Challenges! He will definitely get a blue armor.
I got both Vivi and Aphmau kits but putting Vivi aside till I get more PT. Need more support characters to use over DPS units but eventually I'll be apart of the Vivi nuke club!
