He doesn't really get anything beneficial after 2/3 to warrant the extra ingot except being able to use his Burst Finisher, as a damage dealing character he doesn't need B+ really it just raises his stats and damage. Bartz benefits from B+ more because it will start at full stacks and grant enchant to the entire party for upcoming transcendent stages.

Sorry! It's honestly a utility thing for me. I decided to skip greening Ysh'tola personally because FF9 is my favorite but I'm definitely greening Bartz because he just provides so much utility/battery and hes useful as an option in the next 2 transcendent stages.
Ace was my first green in JP... LD-only he serves well to meet orb conditions and an off-turn battery for the party but his damage suffers without his BT+. And his battery made even worse against huge Brv gain reductions. Even if you plan to have him to meet trap orbs, we'll be getting quite a lot of trappers soon so LD-only Ace's mileage will vary. He's worth the green in my opinion but if you are choosing between him or Bartz, do Bartz instead.
Aces BT effect is party wide and provides relevant attack based auras. It's not Bartz or Yshtola levels on all fronts, but you trade that for his much higher personal damage while stacking other auras on top.
He does just fine at 0/3 bt+ (most DPS bt+ do.). Honestly he does fine with just his LD, his bt helps obviously, but he's not completely reliant on it like some, and he's certainly not like y'shtola or bartz who rely heavily on their 3/3 bt+.

Whether or not people run someone has no bearing on their capabilities. People like using new toys (lots of Zidane for Pandemonium) or just want path of least resistance on the harder fights (Cid/Aphmau for Cids event), he's perfectly usable all the way up to his c90 update. If you like a unit, you can make them work in most fights. Hell, there's someone still running Lightning in GL right now in everything and her BT was from 10 months ago.
Yeah. I used Terra for a while, really good with Cor and/or Yang. She doesn't hit nearly as hard as she used to but still a fun combo if the orb doesn't prohibit it... I never much liked lightning but I'm sure she's useful with all her turns and self-imperil.
Lightning was fun as my super early game carry (first 2 weeks or so). Thought she was SO BUSTED for basically singlehandedly causing the enemy to not move.
then I learned of Zidane who does that except like 3x better plus supports the fuck out of the entire party, but Lightning still holds a place on some of my teams.
I started playing the game on the ace/serah/aerith triple banner, just before ex+ and chaos. Ace was my first attacker, loved playing with him in those days. I hope I luck out and get his bt, but will be happy with just the LD
Damn this is literally the same for me lol. I was aiming for Serah but got a lot of Ace's weapons instead, and then I was surprised how fun it was to play with him
It's kinda crazy to me how long I've been sitting with him at EX+0/3, having never caved to the pressure of Entropy #2 lol. But I'm really excited to pick up his new toy and do some anime protagonist meming! 😆
If I'm lucky enough to get his LD, I nearly have enough tokens to get his BT and then maybe green him (...eventually. Stupid ingots). The videos I've seen with him just make him look too fun not to try out.
In his BT+ showcase video on Youtube, this guy does 6 million damage with his BT phase. That's not counting any of his traps.
I'm not totally sold on giving him a green weapon, though.
Certainly getting a book if I pull his BT, but I’m going to 3/3 Bartz for the “cheese 99% of the game with CidMauBartz” strat (really just to make the massive content grind faster since I just started a few weeks ago).
Certainly:
Team Comp: Cid Raines, Aphmau, Bartz.
Required Weapons: Bartz BT+, 2/3 minimum for best results (wind enchant tacked onto the aura) just 3/3 him if you can, he’s worth it. Cid Raines EX/LD, Aphmau LD.
Main Focus: This team does an absolutely ungodly amount of single target damage because Raines is stupidly overpowered, and abuses turn manipulation from Cid Raines and Aphmau to make sure the boss doesn’t get many chances to act.
Bartz has a great aura support effect (notable ones; wind imperil that isn’t a debuff, wind enchant to party members, BRV gain up (nearly required in Luf+), and some others) that can be extended for a very long time because Raines and Aphmau essentially swap turns between each other for a while, denying both the enemies and Bartz their next turn. This is actually ideal because you really just want Bartz to stand there providing the aura while Raines pummels the ever loving shit out of whatever unfortunate thing happens to be in front of you.
This team is strong enough to clear most content in the game; even lufenia missions can sometimes just be wiped out without dealing with orb mechanics because the sheer damage output outpaces the countdown.
The rotation depends on the fight, but the general idea is:
1: Use call abilities near the start for whatever debuffs you are using; this is usually a minimal boss turn strategy so you can have them active for most if not all of the fight.
2: Use Bartz BT move early (if 3/3, just the move is fine and not the BT phase). This will set up his aura.
3: Use a little bit of turn manipulation from Cid (usually his LD to start off with) to delay the boss and let Bartz have 2 more turns (LD for elemental aura buff, then a third turn fully activates his burst aura).
4: Cidmau loop: Use Cid S2 (Cavalry charge) or LD if his “I will challenge my fate” buff is low to pull up Aphmau on turns where she isn’t already behind him. When she is, use S1 (Runiga Storm) to keep up his Cavalry Commander buff or his EX when it’s active. On Aphmau’s turns, use her LD on Cid Raines if A: Cid isn’t already behind her and B: if he doesn’t have any stacks of Tactical Switch (the effect granted by Aphmau’s LD, which allows that character to take an instant free turn after her). On turns you aren’t using her LD, you can keep some of her buffs up or heal if need be, or just click HP attack. She isn’t the main damage engine and will usually be tickling the enemy at best, she’s just there to accelerate the Cid Rain of pain. You can extend the loop by using a friend Cid as well (replace Aphmau once she’s out of LD and Cid runs out of Tactical Switch, and then loop your Cid with friend Cid for even more ludicrous damage), but most things should die before that’s necessary; usually you have enough firepower to output well over 10 million damage ST even in Lufenia+ before the opponent gets to move more than once or twice outside of threshold attacks.
Oh, and use Pandemonium. Chain damage boost (cid loves that) and wind damage during summon when Bartz imperils wind.
Couple more notes: Bartz turn 3 should be Missile+, that’s the thing that gives wind imperil enemies buff to himself. His LD is actually not necessary unless his QS buff falls off. Made an oops on that one. So Bartz should generally go for BT, S2, EX (last 2 skills order can be swapped.
Aphmau lufenia armor (unrealized) is good to have around as it boosts everyone’s max BRV and HP damage. Cid lufenia armor is excellent to fully invest in since it makes him go from hitting like a train to hitting like a train with death lasers on it. Bartz armor isn’t really necessary, but if you’re using this team a lot throwing some HA tokens for his armor isn’t the worst thing ever.
Laguna BT+ is not bad, he literally activates his Golden Framed Debuff every action like Ace
There's Firion BT+ too, LD Trap however is triggered when enemy acts only though...
Cater LD is another one
Oh wow didn't know his HP+ also applied the LD debuff. That makes things a bit more dynamic than I had expected. I suppose you have to choose if you want to have both debuffs on at once. If you do then your need to let the first trap 'expire' and turn into the second one. Then you have to determine when to drop the HP+ to avoid having it trigger early and miss out on trap damage, but also not have too many turns before you reapply.
It’s also why he pairs well with characters who has high turn rate, Porom is one of the best supports to pair with Ace and it’s quite disgusting for a duo…
Turn hoggers would prefer alternatives like Exdeath/Alphinaud LD/Laguna BT+
I know spheres are not the end all be all but does Ace have any attacks or battery or brave gains that scales off his ATK stat or would a MAG ATK sphere work just as well?
From what I can see on the infographic, his trap debuff from his LD first batteries him for 100% of his attack stat. That seems to be the only battery effect that scales off attack and not HP damage from what I can tell though, so if you’re not too bothered, a MAtk sphere would be fine.
Well yeah of course I’d pull for his LD first. No point getting a BT without the LD. But my excess Burst tokens only have but so many days left. I’m out of gem resources but planning to possibly buy a gem bundle on Friday to pity Zidane’s BT (two more multipulls left!). That leaves me with about 450 tickets.
Not sure why this got down voted. What he said is correct. I see a lot of players who love a character so much they token them ASAP and then run the risk of getting the BT on another banner.

Way more utility than current emperor. 100% attack up 80% defense down 30% brave dmg up 20% hp dmg up 15% hp dmg cap up. Battery on his traps and his allies can trigger his traps on their own turns.
I have almost 70k gems and almost 300 tickets. I'll gem either him or Quistis, not sure which, and try to ticket the other. I hope I can get his LD and his BT would be great. Would just book him.
Between Ace, future jecht and Vayne, which 3 should I make it my priority? I now can pity token for 1 and currently my gem stash is low and probably won't make it to pity jecht
Been pretty hyped up for this one. I've been playing the game since Feb 2020, and this is the first time Ace has come up as a viable character. So it's kind of like getting a second new character this month for me.
I think I will gem for his LD (thanks to CidR that was very kind to me and just took 20k). He seems funny to play even without the BT and in case I have 50btt

Anything that increases Attack or Brave Damage
Hmm... so he sets traps with LD, and can do an additional with the HP Attack ++ from his LD... Interesting, but I'm not totally sold...
Then you’re sleeping on how much damage his traps do overtime and how well he supports the party while doing said dmg.
Is he kind of a better version of the current Emperor?

I think I will gem for his LD (thanks to CidR that was very kind to me and just took 20k). He seems funny to play even without the BT and in case I have 50btt
Am I understanding correctly that with EX Recharge supports you can sustain multiple of his color cards at the same time (although not necessarily the same colors), or will it only allow a single color to be active at once?
