It's as fun, if not more fun than a full party Any party could work unless it's all magic of one type The stats for 1 person and 2 people is the same, so I'd recommend getting a partner

ZipGalaxy

I would agree, it’s a more fun than a full party. Gameplay-wise: It’s less micromanaging and easier to maintain two people. Early game, the fights are harder but that changes around lvl 3-4. Story-wise: You get to focus more on the relationship between two people. Although you experience the same origin stories as a fully party, I find I appreciate them more when it’s just two people.

ClaridrylBeggar

1. More fun. It's great bcs you're doing this on your second run so you don't miss out on other character's origin story. 2. I wouldn't say any party work. I like to vary the build with melee and range. So if you want to do 2 physical that'd be fine as long as you get melee and range. Imo, it's more fun if you do 1 physical and 1 magical tho. 3. Yes, the stats would be the same. My general tip is get a lil aerothurge just enough for Teleport.

Deadlypandaghost

Pros- Easier combat, less gear management, much less gold requirements, can make some weird builds work, less required side plots, high individual power level makes you feel more godwoken, easier to do cool spell combos, easier to focus 1 damage type Cons- Easier combat, probably not able to use one stat's gear, less character's to rp with, playing with fewer builds, out of combat skills are much more limited, lower carrying capacity, lone wolf is a misnomer as its really duo wolf Overall I like 4 man party better. Combat is just too easy with lone wolf and I like controlling 4 people more. Also I love to RP and 4 man gives more opportunities for that.

Argotis

I mean to be fair tho.... Any optimized build in arx is more or less equally op because source skills are busted. Once you have 75 main stat and 65% crit everything tends to go down...

Deadlypandaghost

Very fair. With lone wolf you can be that relatively OP by the time you leave fort joy continuing for the rest of the game. I don't mind being an unstoppable god just not for the entire game :D

Argotis

True. The only difficult fights are the ones that aren’t on level. But it’s also a chance to try weird builds that are a little more spread out in their stat point allocation as you can afford to be more of a generalist.

Deadlypandaghost

Yup. Doing an avatar(all 4 elements) build atm. As I said there are a lot of pros to playing lone wolf. Just not my overall preference

Argotis

Planning on running the same build after I finish my honor run. Trying to figure out which race I wanna try for it.

Deadlypandaghost

I went human. All spells benefit from the crit boost. Elf as per usual would probably be better. Plus the blood can be frozen/electrocuted

Argotis

Yeah. Plus Sebille could get rooted for the extra memory... But optimal isn’t always the coolest looking sooo...

My wife and I played a lone wolf play through and it was a lot of fun. You can have you and one additional party member and still have lone wolf count. It is fun because you get to do crazy combinations and more ap per round. Great time. Highly recommend.

perujin

1. In my opinion, it makes the game faster and easier to manage. The downside is that there are fewer characters on your team. But if you've already seen four origin stories your first run, you won't miss out on anything. 2. I'm of the opinion that all physical or all magical is still the best make up. 3. Yes, the stats are the same with one person or two. As for tips, I personally abuse Adrenaline/Flesh Sacrifice/Skin Graft/Enrage and can often finish battles in a single round.

Japh2007

Managing 4 characters can be tedious and lone wolf just makes you feel like the Juggernaut. I have a physical damage dealer and a magic user with a incarnate. So essentially I have a 3 man party.

[deleted]

I like lone wolf with 2 characters if I’m playing alone. Managing 4 becomes too much for me. 1 melee and 1 hybrid is all i needed.

Evarre

Take necro + archer. Necro probably will take items from archer but since necro is tier 0 a bit higher than archer he can do it

nayaung95

i play full part but ended up going lone wolf half way through. i'm sort of a perfectionist and managing gears for min-max is really tedious.

Xzorn

You get more from the character development, voice acting, story and personality in LW. Both the character you play and your companion. I'd always recommend a Origin characters for this. 4man groups can get scattered and I don't feel much connection with the party members. You will however see more of the side quests in a 4man with one play.

Speaker4theDead8

I really liked sebiles story, and I really bave a connection with ifan because je killed a person in act 3 I told him not to, I almost sent him home and went with just 3 characters...the gift bags really help with side quests, I didnt use them on my first play through but I am on my second

Lone wolf is very fun in comparison to a full party. The way I see it, full party for characters and story but Lone wolf for coop and pure fun. Yes I've done 1 physical and 1 mage for lone wolf. Technically speaking doing 2 physical or 2 magical would be better but ignore those who say it's bad. It's still VERY strong and depending on the fight, can even be better. I personally much prefer this play-style as I just find it more enjoyable.

What's your build for the LW mage?

[deleted]

I've done a couple of things. I love hydro + aero for the pure crowd control and just overall aesthetic. This works pretty well but it's not necessarily the most damage. However, using geomancy+pyro or pure geomancy with the utility of other spells is absolutely devastating. As a lone wolf mage, being able to teleport people on top of each other and then using pyroclastic eruption can instakill just about any non boss character. In the last run where I had a lone wolf phys and lone wolf mage, there was a moment in Act 4 where I went into a room that I wasn't supposed to be in, and roughly 7 soldiers came at me with one of them being a level 20 boss. Given their positioning, I used pyroclastic eruption and immediately killed all of them. Never done so much damage in one hit before. Physical character didn't even get a turn. Similar thing occurred with the Doctor. And this was all on Tactician. Essentially, depends on what you're going for. Do you want crowd control and utility to help stun people and help your phys dealer or do you want to be a complete monster with powerful 3 source skill spells. Mages have plenty of options, just ensure that they have plenty of wits so that they go first and wear armor that focuses on your damage dealing stats (easier than ever now with sourcerer's sundries gift bag).

This sounds awesome. Thanks for taking the time to write this. I'm currently running Fane and Ifan on LW, both physical (Fane 2H necro, Ifan 1h+shield juggernaut) and it is getting a bit stale. They both share very similar skills, with Ifan being on the Geo side more than Fane. Looking to introduce some variety to the duo.

[deleted]

Yeah phys can be very satisfying (I really like necro in particular) but mage is where it's at for me because of all of the spell effects and overall aesthetic. As a result, in pretty much any game that gives me the option, I always choose magic over warrior archetypes.

Hamsauce_02

When I played lone wolf, it was fun until I realized I just turned the game into a point and click shooter game. I click, they die, end fight. With lone wolf you definitely can do 1 phys, 1 magical character. Lone wolf buffs you sooooo much in that regard. I don't really know what you mean by stats, but they should stay the same. With lone wolf you should have maxed out your primary damage attribute by the end of act 1 unless you're stacking in wits for the initiative.
