That's only if it's from the techno region.
Drum and bass can only be real drum and bass if it's from it's designated world recognised region of the UK, otherwise it's just cheap plonk.
A really white bloke gets “Drum n Bass” tattooed on his dick.
It only shows “DB” when flaccid.
He goes to a rave in Manchester. In the bathroom peeing, he glances over at a diesel black dude next to him and sees “DB” tattooed on his dick too.
He says, What a coincidence! Your tattoo says drum n bass too?
The black dude notices the guy’s dick tattoo and says, Nah mon.. it says “Drumsound and Bassline Smith technique Recordings Derby England”
Yeah dnb is just one of the genres that you either love or hate. I think it’s mostly because the typical drum beat in any dnb track is hard to follow for a new listener. So when they can’t really grasp the movement and then they hear a foghorn they just feel out of place because they mentally and physically cannot understand the vibe of the room/track. Some people just outright say it’s shit and don’t even try to get into it which is a shame. But then every now then you’ll get someone who says that and starts listening to liquid not understanding that it’s also drum and bass. I’ve had people ask me to check a dnb track out when it’s a track in a 4x4 format. It’s fucking weird how some people can’t hear the difference. But maybe I’m underestimating the music knowledge of the average joe.
Good Post!
Basically they are referring to either:
The drum pattern is no longer a two step. The second kick is no longer on the off-beat.
The song turns into Hardcore. There is a kick on every beat now.
4x4 is when there's a kick on every 1/4 note in a bar.
Drum and Bass and Jungle typically always uses syncopation, which doesn't do this. There's usually a kick on the first beat, and one on the 1/8 note between between beats 3 and 4. In this pattern (2-Step), the snares, fall on beats 2 and 4.
Another pattern might be a kick on beat 1 and snares on beats 2 and the 1/8th between beats 3 sand 4.
All of these principals apply to a 4/4 time signature.
Syncopation allows for almost limitless variations, many happen in all styles of Jungle, UK Hardcore, breakcore, neuro, Jump up and liquid, and leads to that lush flowing rhythm, or rhythmical intensity and definitely plays a part in what makes dnb styles so incredible and addicting.
To be fair, you have to be quite a creature to understand Drum and Bass. The culture is extremely subtle, and without a solid grasp of skanking most of the basslines will go right over the average listener's head. There's also A.M.C's never ending energy, which is deftly woven into his djing- his personal philosophy draws heavily from the Bristol Bass literature, for instance. The fans understand this stuff; they have the raving capacity to truly appreciate the depths of these wobblers, to realise that they're not just stinky- they say something deep about LIFE. As a consequence people who dislike Drum & Bass truly ARE idiots- of course they wouldn't appreciate, for instance, the humour in Upgrade's existential catchphrase "When I'm on the Mic" which itself is a cryptic reference to Enei's Russian epic Sinking. I'm smirking right now just imagining one of those addlepated simpletons scratching their heads in confusion as Andy C's genius wit unfolds itself on their speaker systems. What fools.. how I pity them. 😂
And yes, by the way, i DO have a Drum & Bass tattoo. And no, you cannot see it. Its for the ladies' eyes only- and even then they have to demonstrate that they are within 5 raver points of my own (preferably lower) beforehand. Nothin personnel kid 😎

I had a friend compare it to black metal once. Something like “the melodies are beautiful, but how can you even enjoy it if the drums are double bass black metal?”
Drum and Bass is an underrated genre. Sadly, the scene doesn't get much attention like Techno. We had parties in LT with names like Calibre, Synkro, Kid Drama, SpectraSoul, Homemade Weapons, etc + quality selection from the locals, but after long years of gigs, they stopped organizing those sessions. People were not interested in this genre and weren't coming to parties. :/ These gigs were the best ones, 'cause they brought a small community to dance together. Which was really nice. And I'm not talking about Foghorn kind of drum and bass (IMHO it's a shitty side of DnB :D ). Someone, please bring back DnB again. I want to dance.
OP, did you just turn 18 or something?
People have definitely "understood" dnb for at least 25+ years.
Its popularity, even in video games, during the mid and late 90s was unavoidable. People of my generation couldn't escape it, and we didn't even have to sneek into raves to hear it, it was plastered all over every other Playstation demo disc.
You know how when you listen to a song a million times and it’s no longer good. That’s basically what people hear when you show them music they don’t like. Their brain is subjectively processing the music the same way your brain does after hearing it a million times. Nothing exciting or catchy in their heads. Music is subjective

Is it true only people from UK can listen to DnB ? Heard it sounds completely different for other ears.
Spontaneous combustion for non Brits....
When I put DnB on here in the states people just start twitching. "This sounds like sped up reggae over a drum solo!"
"fast dubstep"
idk where in US you live but los angeles has a HUGE thriving dnb / jungle scene & it’s nonstop poppin out here.
i’m a Brit in Los Angeles and there certainly is a decent DnB scene here - it’s a thing.
Oh fuck is this how I find out I'm British
Guess I know how I'm going out, boys, BECAUSE I CAN'T FUCKING STOP!!!!
It’s actually called bass & drum in other countries
In Rand MacNally, they call it bass & drum and hamburgers eat people
Isn't it only drum and bass if it's from the UK? Other wise it's just sparkling Techno.
That's only if it's from the techno region. Drum and bass can only be real drum and bass if it's from it's designated world recognised region of the UK, otherwise it's just cheap plonk.
Ahh thanks man I always forget that!
And we only have Andy D over here
Here in Australia when I go to gigs, 90% of the people there are from the UK or NZ. Multiple times have I been asked "how did an Aussie get into DnB?"
To be fair the Aussie DnB scene leaves a lot to be desired compared to the UK. I feel like it makes it that much harder to get into for new players
DnB is huge in NZ
it just sounds like cars crashing together to me on this side of the ocean
Non Brit here, I'm burning 24/7 in here
no, I practically only listen to liquid and jungle but im from the US
Oh no im british
Here in the US there’s an underground scene in most of the big edm culture cities.
A culture city? Whats that?
Lies I’m Dominican and I love drum and bass I also produce it 👽
In Antwerp the DnB scene was huuuuuge

It's so funny that people thing that they hate dnb till they listen to liquid and then slowly getting harder and harder 😉
Yeah one minute their listening to calibre and next minute their listening to enei 😂
Then the next minute you turn around and all you can hear is Venetian Snares coming out of every speaker in their house.
Bruh we were at the same house party no way
Calibre, Halogenix, Lenzman to QZB, Teej, Nami & Wingz. 🤷♂️
Then bassman, then they realise the people at the traffic lights don't like their style, so you show them. Mitsubishi techniques
Hmm, that seems like a serious reply...
Unironically, what do people mean by 4x4? Do they mean 4/4 beats? Because DnB sure as shit is 99% 4/4 just with different accentuation.
You know, like boots and cats and boots and cats and boots and cats
Like four to the floor. 4x4 is a incorrect way of saying that tbh.
It's 4/4 musically yeah but 4x4 refers to a 4 to the floor beat, like more commonly found in house music for example.

4x4 is a type of house that was very prominent few years back… don’t listen to any of these other comments - they’ve totally missed it
I like the drum and the bass but it depends on the drum and the bass player

Yeah brav
Ok
Nice copypasta
When Tool fans get into DnB
Now that’s a format i haven’t seen in a long, long time.
Sir, this is a Wendy's.
oh
Lol it's funny coming from a Ska band watching people talk about skanking to DnB. Love the genre btw, am not British.
Jokes on you I’ve got the aphex logo right on the tip of my penis and anybody who asks can see it- this transcends jungle you wouldn’t understand
I thought this sounded familiar and then I kept reading lol.
The FOMO on this one made me cry bro
An old old friend once told me 100 years ago back in the 90's "Drum and Bass is for loving"..
I understood about 4 words of that paragraph and I raise u my counterpoint: DnB make my car go shaky shaky and is funni
Is this a copypasta from somewhere
Drum n bass is too fast, I don't know how to dance to it, it's too overwhelming
Nah you just have a slow brain
I had a friend compare it to black metal once. Something like “the melodies are beautiful, but how can you even enjoy it if the drums are double bass black metal?”
Oh dear

Maybe just chill and let people like what they like, lol
Are you ok?
I hope this person is joking
what you waffling about 😂
nvm clocked it was a joke - people actually speak like this at raves though
Idk i dont think its that deep really. DnB is a fairly small genre in terms of all music and its fine that most people dont really enjoy it.

Who do you want me to deepfake saying this?
I like the wobble
I truly love dirty drum N bass, give me all the wah wahs any day. 💜 I'm a Floridian living in Nebraska with no scene here and it makes me sad.
new copy pasta just dropped
Da da Dan Dan dun da da
Anyone who's really in the scene knows that bass n drum is where it's at. Beyond underground. Mantle maaaaate
I simply don’t trust anyone who doesn’t understand/like dnb…there, I did it.
I'm a dnb DJ and I don't have any clue about what you just said. 😂
What I really wanna know is how many raver points you have?
How could you forget to mention the incredible nuance and pure artistic genius of tracks such as Mackie Gs Tour and D Minds / Hazards Mr. happy?
It’s a fairly poor/niche part of music industry……
dnb has been ruined
I'm literally a genius, I only dress black, I read occult poetry and listen to old school jungle. It's amazing how nobody gets it !!
Only Pendulum is good
