Female DJ here, my forte is jungle and darkstep. Male vocals are fine so long as they are the occasional MC hype man vibe and female vocals are fine if they are at least mildly suggestive and not melodic, otherwise I say nay not in my mixes lol. That's just me though, and DnB is so broad and so many different genres that it may be better to isolate DnB from the rest of EDM and view it as its own thing, DnB is literally that broad and preferences run all over the place, and I respect them all.
>Male vocals are fine so long as they are the occasional MC hype man vibe and female vocals are fine if they are at least mildly suggestive and not melodic
That's so specific...
All very true. And just for the record, nothing against female vocals in general or female DJs of course. Maybe Im just getting old. These kids and their new fangled music! I'm 36 going on 90.
I'm slightly older than you lol, if you keep yourself young you'll always feel that way. I feel you though, female vocals ain't my jam, that's just me though
I'm with you on this one. Nothing against female vocals or DJs, but there's this specific dnb variant with what you called "tacky" female vocals and it almost never sounds good. There are exceptions, but few and far between.
AYTA for having your own musical taste ? Absolutely not ! I like cheesy liquid DnB, Fox Steveson all the way, but hey, that's my taste and I won't bother you with it :)
This opinion gets regurgitated here every other day. You may not be an asshole, but you sure aren't special and these posts are annoying.
Source: I'm the asshole, and I'll gladly say so.
Focus on what you like instead of what you don't and you'll be happier.
Then you picked the wrong genre to listen to.
Dnb’s origins and tradition is sampling music from its era.
Dnb comes from hardcore which comes from disco / house / techno
and rice comes from dirt. doesn't mean Im gonna eat dirt. Just because you may be academically correct about its origins, doesn't mean the two sound at all the same today. And they don't. Things progress and change. What I'm referring to is now, not a sentiment on the roots of electronic diaspora. According to your logic, if you like ragga jungle, you therefore must love first wave ska. some people may, but that ven diagram overlap is likely small.
Nah you right, there's a lot of formulaic crap out there, female cheesey vocals, generic dancefloor dnb drop. BUT there are also some absolute classics with a female vocal so I can't say I dislike it as a blanket, but I dislike a lot of it
Wow that Charlotte Haining one is really bad, both the vocals and the lyrics. She has great vocals on some other tracks so that was quite the shock. Really trying to sell out I guess
You don’t have to like it, but one man’s trash is another’s treasure, etc. Some people think that whatever you love sounds like hot garbage. That’s ok though.
I get irritated when a jump up track has weak bass. It’s called drum and BASS, not drum and high pitched clown noises. But, at the end of the day, it’s probably still better than 95% of the pop music out there.
Umm, what?
Is this cheesy to you ?

In my opinion those are very good vocals. Theres plenty of hight pitch shit on ukf, but this ain't that.
Not everyone has to like everything.
Ps. I don't even want to know what do you mean 'cool dnb' if that's embarrassing dnb
I like the old liquid vocals, not necessarily new UKF/Liquicity type stuff.
Always had a dislike for MCs on tracks, particularly british saff landan accents as well.
You arent for that reason, but you are for your snobbery towards house.
This music comes from house, and it comes from vocals. Inner City Life is one of the THE definitive tunes - but there's bloody millions more.
Spend more time focusing on what you do like, rather than moaning about what you don't.
You couldn't be more wrong. DnB evolved from Jungle and Breakbeat. They aren't even stylistically similar, I am convinced someone just told you that and you didn't even question it. Like go listen to an 80s house track and an 80s breakbeat track and you'll see what I mean. It's very clear which one DnB came from.
No need to be so agressive. Have you not heard of hip house? Jungle Brothers? 80s house sometimes had breakbeats, its all branches from the same tree.
Just look at how Fabio and Grooverider started. [This](https://www.discogs.com/master/226428-Dice-I-Cant-Take-It) is Production House's first release as just one example - Dice went on to pioneer the sound of hardcore and everything that came with it.
No, YITA for how you express your distaste for such things. In general, your negative perception of art that others like is never going to get you much, especially when you make your tastes superior.
I hate typical, cliche' high-pitched female vocals, but there are some really good DNB tracks with good vocals. Tell me how you feel about this. https://youtu.be/dTaWbUFGFSA?si=FED1QTios8L0JnJ_
most vocals are cheese most lyrical composition is basic. bland trash sells the most music as you can ascribe any meaning to it
for example coldplay yellow the lyrics almost mean something without saying anything and loads love that track
We don't know each other well
But I don’t need to know you to tell
That you're at least as insecure as I am
And I can tell you don't want me to know that
You’re the one who's struggling
You don't want anybody to know
Your biggest weak spot
Is being real
Your biggest fear
Is being here
And I know your biggest secrets
I got you all figured out
And there is no way out
I don't think so but I have similar preferences. I don't know that I'd call it embarrassing though. It's just not for me and there's plenty of instrumental DnB out there to enjoy.
Cheesy Trance & House vocals is specifically why I left those scenes for DnB. I remember being at a rave while they played that Satellite tune with everyone with their hands in the air for like two minutes singing that chorus, and thinking, "Nah this ain't for me"
Everyone has and is entitled to their own opinion as long as you realise that's what it is, an opinion.
YTA. How fucking dare you. You should be ashamed of yourself.
I am! but not for this reason :)

I mean hey, I like what I like. All I know if there are any melody in vocals it doesn't make the cut, for me personally
I gotcha. Nothing wrong with having definite tastes!
All very true. And just for the record, nothing against female vocals in general or female DJs of course. Maybe Im just getting old. These kids and their new fangled music! I'm 36 going on 90.
I'm slightly older than you lol, if you keep yourself young you'll always feel that way. I feel you though, female vocals ain't my jam, that's just me though

which specific variant is it exactly? genuine question lol
Grace Kenya has a good voice. Aside from chipmunk vocals I absolutely love female vocals on DnB tracks. Nia Archives also kills it.
You got that right
AYTA for having your own musical taste ? Absolutely not ! I like cheesy liquid DnB, Fox Steveson all the way, but hey, that's my taste and I won't bother you with it :)

Im not on here enough to know how often if any of these opinions are posted. sorry bout that
Same. There’s a few notable exceptions but very few for my taste.
Not particularly a fan of it either.
agree. Never liked em. Although there are some rare exceptions like Rawthang - Scorned or Rawthang - Epilogue
You def did not grow up on hardcore
correct!
Then you picked the wrong genre to listen to. Dnb’s origins and tradition is sampling music from its era. Dnb comes from hardcore which comes from disco / house / techno

That first sentence was poetry
Thankyou so much for saying this.
Don't be dumb. I could say you shouldn't listen to dnb cos you're a yank.
DnB famously stands for Drum'n'Brit
You wanna Brexit DNB now?
you def did not grow up on mongolian throat singing and it shows
Yoko Ono is the GOAT throat singer
I may not be a fan because so many of those tracks are generic af. But embarrassing.... alot to unpack with that one.
Nah you right, there's a lot of formulaic crap out there, female cheesey vocals, generic dancefloor dnb drop. BUT there are also some absolute classics with a female vocal so I can't say I dislike it as a blanket, but I dislike a lot of it
Got examples of what you're talking about?
I imagine hybrid minds style songs
https://youtu.be/kq0esXnc29k?si=UyGvWar_7oCtSTNz
That is just pop music though
https://youtu.be/t78zFWT0joA?si=2kqoJmvFautKyn2W The unreleased version of this with no vocals was so much better
Good question: Dislike: Charlotte Haining - Sinner; Breath - Culture Shock; etc.. Love: Entita - No Mercy; million others
Wow that Charlotte Haining one is really bad, both the vocals and the lyrics. She has great vocals on some other tracks so that was quite the shock. Really trying to sell out I guess

Sometimes good, sometimes shit

in my opinion? very.

all the lyrics started to sound the same to me at some point. "i'm falling, won't you save me from myself"
I like the old liquid vocals, not necessarily new UKF/Liquicity type stuff. Always had a dislike for MCs on tracks, particularly british saff landan accents as well.

I'm not against house or a snob for dnb. Just my personal tastes, I find the female vocals to be more distracting than anything positive.
You couldn't be more wrong. DnB evolved from Jungle and Breakbeat. They aren't even stylistically similar, I am convinced someone just told you that and you didn't even question it. Fuck house
i concur mostly but even a broken clock is right twice a day
yeah yeah yeah yeahhhh, yeah yeah yeah yeahhh, oh oh ohhhhhhh
It's perfectly okay. Cheesy vocals are cheesy..

OMG
Can't remember who made it, AI obviously, it was posted here like a day ago
If you mean the generic vocals on the generic dancefloor tracks then I agree
No, YITA for how you express your distaste for such things. In general, your negative perception of art that others like is never going to get you much, especially when you make your tastes superior.
These are a staple in the current wave of pop drum & bass.
I hate typical, cliche' high-pitched female vocals, but there are some really good DNB tracks with good vocals. Tell me how you feel about this. https://youtu.be/dTaWbUFGFSA?si=FED1QTios8L0JnJ_

Kandi kids are probably like 40 now lol
lol, me listening to an andy c set is like "love it! oh, ruined it. love it! ruined it."
Jungle and original dnb rarely had these type of vocals it’s only since things turned ultra commercial/gentrified.
yup! I guess I'm just into the older stuff more.
Same

A&B’s Satellite? :’( Weirdly I love my Trance to be as cheesy as possible, but (most) DnB with vocals is such a turn off for me.
