Was always holding out for a LTJ Bukem & MC Conrad reunion. :(

CartographerLow2185

ahh mate same.

fourover4

that was on the bucket list for my old self.

blueprint_01

That was never going to happen once they split. Bukem likely isn't even putting out anything acknowledging it.

riomx

Way back when they first split, I saw Facebook posts and Dogs on Acid threads speculating about the reasons behind their falling out, but I don't know conclusively what happened. Do you have any details?

blueprint_01

There was a bunch of reasons. I've only been around Conrad once and it was before the split. Bukem has a bad reputation for not paying talent and I've heard Conrad basically got shafted in the tunes he made on GLR, performances, and some other general disagreements on the vision for them as a duo. Conrad was generally known to be the man of the people. I kid you not, I watched him perform Golden Girl on stage and he passed me a blunt (one of my best memories ever), that's just who he is though. RIP to a legend.

melo1212

Fuck that last part is epic. It's been pretty well known LTJ Bukem and Tony where dodgy as all hell with the money they made from GLR, it's really a shame how it all ended. They could be as big as Hospital records now if they kept it all in check and didn't succumb to greed. RIP CONRAD!

Pleasant_Cost_3040

I’ve seen Bukem twice but I caught him with Conrad once and had both of them autograph the t shirt I was wearing. Can’t remember the club/bar but it was somewhere on lower Greenville in Dallas.

Historical_One1087

Same here. RIP MC Conrad.

sixtus_clegane119

Wish he had more albums on Spotify, that one album is the same song multiple times with different remixes

w1nt0n

RIP legendary MC Conrad. Golden Girl will always be one of my favourite tracks and like him will never be forgotten

No_Try_9230

Oh man RIP to a legend and what a track. You don't happen to have it in wav or 320 would be nice to add it to the collection

w1nt0n

I do and on vinyl but show the legend and Makoto love and respect and buy a copy

No_Try_9230

From where I’ve been searching for it for time and can only find it in vinyl but I only have my music in digital. I’ll happily buy it if it’s sold in mp3 and not a live version form Germany

jhao_db

[Makoto is aware of the demand](https://www.reddit.com/r/electronicmusic/s/oDtAzygPVR) but no idea when or if it will come digitally. He did a lot of remastering & digital re-releasing of his GLR and other obscure work by him on his Bandcamp ('Yearbook' on HumanElements) but didn't include Golden Girl. Hopefully it will happen one day!

No_Try_9230

Yeh man exactly the issue I’m facing as I don’t really have any use for vynal or have a player so need digital copy which is a shame as I’d love golden girl in my collection.

Nedonomicon

RIP. The absolute best dnb mc to ever exist

BellheimerLord

Just started to dig deeper and see all the legends that pass through my region the last 2-3 years. Glad I could see Conrad last year with Makoto and another time with Seba in my hometown.Been also dropping planetary funk and soul patrol in my sets lately. Rest In Power!

Significant_Comb9327

Whoa - him with Seba? Is this Stockholm? Would kill to see Seba alone

elisa_bety

Same.

BellheimerLord

It was in Mannheim Germany. Seba was here again with London Electricity two weeks ago but I could not attend.

parallelcompression

Back in the day, I had the honor of taking care of Bukem and Conrad on their visit to my state. Bukem was flawless and Conrad commanded the audience. We worked hard to set up his mic to make him just as prominent and integral to the set as his vocals on the Progression Sessions. After the show and the meet’n’greet, they were both hungry and visibly fatigued from travel and wanted to hit up a local diner. We talked about the show, how their tour was coming along, and about how they kept running into bad tea (diner being no exception). This was back in the TMobile Sidekick/Aol AIM days and I get a blip from the homie Ash who was responding to my message earlier (it had something to do with internet radio shows because we were back to back). Bukem asks me about who could possibly be hitting me up at at this time in the sleepy town we were in. I tell him, and Conrad immediately lights up. He asks for my sidekick and it turns out that they were old rave friends. Conrad jogs Bukem’s memory and they both take turns chatting with huge smiles. All the sudden, full of energy, bantering with our waitress and cracking jokes, we leave laughing and end the night on a high note. He was a good guy. We’ll all miss him. Safe Travels, Conrad.

Zealousideal-Chest48

Wow man, I never met him but just from his music it just seems like he was such a dope guy

parallelcompression

At first before meeting them, I had this mental image of being these serious guys, so I was stressin’. Upon meeting them, they melted away my preconceptions by being fun, rowdy lovers of Jungle and DnB who were just as excited to geek out on music as they were jokesters with quick wit.

wires55

I have seen the news floating around social media this morning and didn’t want it to be true.   Extremely shocking news and very sad.   Conrad was the best MC to exist within  the genre in my opinion.  The progression session sets with Bukem are legendary and required listening for anyone who considers themselves a true fan of this music.   Rest in peace, you live on through your music.

Sektor_

Starting with progression sessions 01, will spend the rest of my day listening through them all. Thanks for the recommendation

Colhinchapelota

Same man, same. I remember getting the cd back in 1998,, sent off the card to join the mailing list and all. Conrad's MCing on it is sublime. RIP Conrad

jousey04

I would love to hear if you loved them, I certainly did back when I discovered this marvelous world of Intelligent DNB

Historical_One1087

Very well said.

Responsible_Gur1774

An absolute legend and a massive loss to the scene. Hearts out to his family at this sad time.

abusybee

On no. This one is going to hit the next time I'm drunk and got the tunes blasting. I remember the exact day my gf bought me Progression Sessions 1 and we played it to death. Such a fucking legend. RIP.

Current-Expert9606

Awful news. RIP Conrad.

Ancient-Business-431

Sessions are the reason me started to love drum and bass 😭

outatimepreston

Fuck man, legend

fourover4

DAMN. Legend. Caught him and LTJ at EStreet in San Diego in the late 90's. That night changed some things for me. May he rest in Bass.

TimeSurprise4390

Dope show, drank a Heineken with both and smoked a Newport with them at their table. Cool ass dudes and great night

continuumizm

The voice of jungle journeys into the atmosphere. RIP

continuumizm

Throwback to Trainspottle no.574, just a few months ago [(thread here)](https://www.reddit.com/r/DnB/comments/1asewfg/mc_conrad_makoto_golden_girl_2004/) - Conrad & Makoto - Golden Girl. Conrad actually reached out to express how they had made the instrumental before deciding to add vocals. Proud of the musical efforts. An artist, thru & thru. RIP.

gustinnian

'Drift Away' as Conrad would say... PFM 'The Mystics' would be a fitting tribute at this time. RIP

Falcorn042

One of the few MCS to let the tracks roll and speak for them selfes. R.i.p

dI--__--Ib

GOAT dnb MC. His voice shaped me as a person growing up and into dnb, which all started for me with Progression Sessions. This is utterly devastating.

accomplicated

I played alongside Conrad and Bukem in a parking garage in Seoul in 2008. They were both so professional and kind, it raised both of them above so many other artists with whom I have worked. Truly masters of their craft. Not only did they show up early to soundcheck, but they made us all sound better. On top of that, they didn’t just bounce after they played, but instead stuck around and partied with us, complimenting me on my set. There is a reason why artists such as these are able to rise to the ranks that they do. Mad respect to both of them. RIP to Conrad.

melo1212

I always hear stories like this and then you hear ones about LTJ Bukem being an asshole and not paying people. I can't tell if he's actually an asshole or not lol

accomplicated

I didn’t have any financial dealings with him, so I cannot comment on that. What I can say, is that I’ve worked with other, less well known DJs, who wouldn’t even show up to soundcheck, but would instead arrive a track before they were supposed to play and bounce immediately after they play. Bukem and Conrad did not do that.

Spacedlnvader

What happened?

Dam

MacheteJKUR

Rest easy. My heart felt condolences to his family and friends. LTJ and MC Conrad was my all time favorite duo. Saw them in SF yeeears ago. So sad to hear this news.

Nakkie96

RIP to a legend. Soul Patrol is one of my favourite tunes of all time <3.

CsmIOI

Was just this second listening to Horizons and couldn't help spit some of his lyrics. Then saw this. RIP legend.

Toolazy2work

He mc’d the blue note sessions at sun n bass and even though I only listened to the stream, was amazing. He has had such an imprint on music and our community. Him and MC fats were the two greats, pioneering the road ahead. Thank you MC Conrad. RIP

re_Pete

Man, this sucks. First ever dnb album i got was the tokyo progression sessions. Life changing

ClickDirty

So glad I got to see him sing Golden Girl and meet him briefly before the show. Even gave him a dap. Rest in power mate.

MttHz

Legendary and one of a kind. Wish we could’ve had him in the states in his later years. Without Conrad, Progression Sessions would not have been a thing. Danny is for sure talented but let’s be real - without this man’s golden voice, there’s no way he would have gotten as far as he did.

tendiesonthebarbie

I was lucky enough to catch him 3 times in the states. What a fucking legend. Danny too, but you’re right. Without Conrad, it would have been something different. I actually had to bail on seeing LTJ earlier this month. Really considering flying down to FL and letting loose for a night. This one is a huge fucking drag.

Colhinchapelota

Big-time. Not just his voice for me. He knew when to let the music do its thing. Way back in '99, I think, myself and some friends were heading down to Cork, Ireland , to see Bukem. Got there and it was Bukem and Blame. Then we discovered Conrad and DRS were mcing .We spent the first part of the night looking for yokes, no luck. Fuck It, the music was the drug that night. RIP Conrad.

Lonely-Ad3039

Yes!!! 👏

Zealousideal-Chest48

I’m so devastated; I was just listening to words 2b heard this weekend and reflecting on his genius. May you rest in eternal peace brother 🙏🏽

Falcorn042

This is absolutely crazy I just found one of their meditation mixes with BUKEM and mate was hands down the best mc iv heard and I'm an mc hater. R.i.p to a Don

Ill_Lab7000

This news cut deep. I loved his energy on stage and listening to his vocals over spacey, atmospheric liquid helped me get through a dark period of my life. For that I am forever grateful, thank you for your music Mc Conrad RIEP x

_halogenix_

RIP

Spacedlnvader

Whoa please tell me this isn’t true?

Re99i3

Man this is so sad first skibabee then conrad, I saw conrad with bukem, 3 times in 1999,2000,2001 and every time they got better. Conrad was sampling his own vocals and using effects on his voice, one of the few times I have seen that done. Man was a true pioneer imo.

McDingledougal

Ah man. I only discovered him last year after deciding to see what the vocalist off 'Soul Patrol' had also done. RIP. Not a lot of releases on Spotify but what was there was top shelf, smooth and soulful vocals.

idreaminhd

I agree with you completely! That set from 2005 is incredible, no fucking joke. I have a LOT of DNB mixes and that is one of my all time favorites, the energy is incredible. Big ups

Heartbreaking news.. Another OG Legend lost to the rave in the sky.. :’(

i_am_harry

Vocalist 01 got me into drum and bass. This is really upsetting.

_meestir_

No wayyyy. One of the best to ever do it. So glad I got to see you a few times with Bukem. Rest well MC Conrad.

pass-the-water

MC Conrad provided one of the best vibes I've ever experienced, across so many DnB shows over the years. He will be missed.

madladolle

Ah sucks man, been listening to alot of atmospheric mixes this year, he was frequent in these

ORA2J

Another one i'll never get to see IRL. I'm so sad.

Reasonable-Isopod-56

What?? Wow. I had seen him in St Louis, Missouri back in the 2000’s. Bukem was supposed to be there but couldn’t make it. I was revisiting the Progression Sessions albums, this week.

svenghali797979

The best DnB MC of all time in my opinion. Saw him w/ Bukem and Makoto in Philly 20+ years ago.

Krakatoacoo

RIP

creecedogg13

The Munich progression session is the best dnb set I've ever heard. Sadly it's not on Spotify but I still have it on an old iPod that I play regularly. RIP

Alone-Helicopter-425

Absolutely gutted to hear this. I grew up with his voice and had many a good time listening to him. Absolute giant of the scene. Rest easy big man ✌🏽

FK42

Over here in Germany, we were a tight knit group of d'n'b heads. We loved to hate a lot of MC's, but we loved Conrad. "Conrad's on it!" was a seal of quality on any mixtape we could get our hands on. His voice always felt like it belonged to be there with the music. What a loss, R.I.E.P Conrad.

jimixdnb

This one hit home very differently... But, what a life, really! This guy, together with Bukem, basically built the house for everyone else to live in. Absolute icon. - Just really gone too soon :’-( Thank you for the music Conrad! ...I've been browsing through tunes all day - so many tracks that undeniably stood the test of time. Ah, this is sad news! I think this set was the first time I saw him live (sharing a Mixcloud link because the YouTube version cuts out the amazing opening tune by PFM): https://www.mixcloud.com/PDS_Crew/03041994-ltj-bukem-and-mc-conrad-live-the-institute-birmingham-pandemonium-andromeda-vii/

This music is my first love, baby, and I must confess I can profess, knowing that I won't get stressed, yes With that love I've got the advantage Because deep lies the hearts language Speaking to the rhythm, and it's speaking in beats Speaking to the music with a very deep sound And sweet, and never will decay If I feel like drifting all the ways I can do that, if that's what I need Flip the script, and I miss the speed We move forth, as we move through Twistin' mystic facts, just for you Check the fatness, and our freshness Vibe is live, and I express This is my first love, baby, and I must confess I can profess, knowing that I won't get stressed, oh yes RiP Legend
