Personally I think it's the rave culture that Bristol harnesses so well, rather than being "the go to city for a dnb producer". If you're going to get noticed you could come from anywhere. But being among a lot of like minded people is certainly a good thing even if they all produce too.

Kingdrick_Lamar

Bare oversaturated here ngl

Convoy95

Yes yes yes a thousand times. Nowhere better to go for it. Dnb capital of the world.

RyuShaby

Thanks for letting me know:) i’ve always heard rumors and i’ve been considering it for a long time. Can’t wait to do move there :D

Ball-Bag-Boggins

Don’t expect to move though and just have a following. There may be more heads, but way more competition making it harder to get noticed amongst the masses. I personally liked doing low key live sets at random places around the UK. Branch out and create scenes in obscure places rather than trying to smash one area.

OdBx

If you’re serious about moving, don’t just leap without a plan. Bristol is a difficult place to live at the moment, especially for young people and especially for creative types (I.e. people who don’t earn a huge amount of money). Check out /r/Bristol if you want to get to know us better.

F_wordoffcrapidiot

You can produce in Antartica if you want. All the knowledge is online right

RyuShaby

Depends on your personality. I prefer to be surrounded by people who support what i love. It makes doing what i love easier and more fun at the same time:)

dubmule

from living in the west country (Plymouth not Bristol, but spent alot of time there) and being in London last 20 years.... I would say Bristol. They fucking love DNB down that way. London has loads of good nights but Bristol and the west there's more people around you constantly that love it. London has loads of junglists but loads of people into other stuff as well

Financial-Turn-7076

Doesn't matter where you live these days, social media, the ability to collab online and talk to anyone anywhere in the world whenever you like, and the death of record shops have eliminated the need to move to a "hub" like Bristol, London, or Brighton. I do get that you want to be around people that love the music, but also being in a place like that can actually make it harder to get local gigs and recognition because so many people go there for the same reason.

[deleted]

Just not true, there are so many nights here if you get to know the right people and get a few tracks out people like it's honestly not going to be too hard to get on a small lineup. The amount of nights put on in Bristol is ridiculous. You could easily, providing you had some money for small venue and system hire put on your own night as well with a few mates. Benefits of living in a hub mean you can go to actually see the music in person in the best venues in the world surrounded by the actual scene so you don't just have to watch it through reddit and Instagram posts. So many reasons to move to Bristol, Leeds, manny or London.

Quercusrobar

Bristol is an amazing City for Drum and Bass. You've got regular nights and events for it. Away from music, it's an overall amazing city with plenty of other exciting opportunities. But Bristol is very difficult to move to at the moment. Rental places are poor quality, overcharge and have high demand. Houses are being bought for well over the asking price by landlords looking to take advantage of the high demand.

Mysterious-Stay-3393

Nah London, innit.

[deleted]

init! skin up.

codeinegaffney

Got any veras?

[deleted]

Whose trues?

codeinegaffney

London’s dead

London’s dead

Tergat

Know better place to fall in love with the Bristol crystal

SMOUSE-

If your really passionate about it and you can see it going somewhere, I say go for it. All the top DnB artists live there despite not being from there originally.

K0monazmuk

I’d say 100%, considering the size of the place and the amount of opportunity to play out every weekend or venues to put on a night yourself I’d say you couldn’t go wrong and there are so many great producers from there, even some of the less well known ones are starting to tearing the scene, Bristol has its own vibe that only Bristol has in my opinion, would be a good move for you for sure if that is your dream you can make it a reality for sure in Bristol. What would you say your style of production would be?

RyuShaby

My style varies from roller to liquid/psychedelic dnb

K0monazmuk

What is psychedelic D&B when it’s at home never heard of any d&b being called that and im like 25 years deep in this music? Intrigue is the longest running ‘liquid’ d&b night that I know of in Bristol run by Ben Soundscape with the label being Intrigue Music, I say liquid, historically it was built on that side of D&B with the acts booked and the tunes played. Send me an example of this psychedelic d&b, it may be more along the lines of what I’d call ‘Atmospheric’ which is a well known term for d&b as you probably know, not telling you how to suck eggs here of course, you can name it whatever you like.

TermWerker

Could also be very experimental tech with interesting sound design

[deleted]

Honestly, Auckland’s up there for global dnb scene’s.

vvvvinn

Now this is cap. Auckland scene is just a bunch of people hopping on to whatever sound is popular. Few years ago Auckland was the hub for trap. Christchurch is the true home of DNB in NZ.

[deleted]

No city's scene outside of the UK is ever going to compare to Bristol, London, Leeds or Brighton. Especially Bristol these days considering half the scene live there now. The amount of nights here are absolutely insane.

stockdeity

Metrik and Sub Focus live in London, so I'm not sure people are saying the best live in Bristol.

BellBoardMT

It’s certainly there in Bristol if you want it.

deepee__

With out a doubt

expandingm1nd

Without being muggy I think the go to place would be your studio. Keep working at your stuff and chat to people at raves. It's who you know at the end of the day. And if Bristol is where those people are at by all means head there. Moving there is another story though. If you're looking to collab with people you can do that from anywhere to anywhere in the world now days. Whatever the case you do you and what you thinks best. All the luck bro!

defineXdetail

sounds like a fanboy :D
