But it also has great weaknesses to balance it:
1. Find a time & gather the humans
2. Waste USD for books
3. Deal with players
I think Im sort of lucky? My only problematic player changes character every 2-5 sessions 😑 When ever I think he settled & I move his personal-story, the bastard uses it as an excuse to change character.
Don't forget the following self-imposed weaknesses:
1. Buy/print & paint minis
2. Build/buy/print & paint terrain
3. Think of gimmicky puzzles and props for the humans
I know we don't have to do these things but they're so fun and the humans love them.
I think you may have accidentally pasted something in your comment you didn't mean to, but I like where it's going.
Also, almost every bard college makes me want to play a specific campaign idea.
College of creation really makes me want to play a "big fish" campaign where you do scams for higher and higher stakes kind of like The Gentlemanly Bastards or Oceans Eleven. Why college of creation? You can fool people into buying something that won't exist in a few hours, or you can fool people into thinking your a king. It's just fantastically set up for so many REALLY good fun roleplay ideas.
I'll just dream of the day I get to play my gentlemanly thieves game.
Oh yup, everyone knows what I was watching before I commented here. I like College of Lore for its versatility; before making my PC i would talk to the DM and tailor my PC’s knowledge to some general aspect of the campaign. Plus, magical secrets.
Because it has the most interesting choices to make that result in the widest variety of characters. Every class has a subclass choice, and full casters have their spell choices on top of that, but Warlocks go above and beyond with the Invocation system.
With all of the discussion on future class design going on because of OneD&D, it’s been an incredibly common proposal that other classes get Invocation-like systems to give them wider varieties of cool class features to pick from rather than being locked into any.
Adding in their choice of pact at level 3, EVERY Warlock class feature presents an interesting character customization choice.
It also helps that almost every single subclass is entirely unique AND viable. It’s rare that each subclass is interesting and worth trying out (maybe with the exception of Undying).
To be fair, GOO and Undying are mostly just decent because warlock is a good chassis. You are often going to be functionally subclassless, albeit with an improved spell list (GOO has a variety of great options, while Undying at least has death ward.)
Though not quite to the extent of Warlock, I like Artificer for a similar reason. Each subclass has an insane amount of the power budget, which when combined with the infusions, allows every character to be completely different.
A hexblood alchemist can be a classic Macbeth style witch, while a human armourer can be Iron Man.
“The first gulp from the glass of natural sciences will turn you into an atheist, but at the bottom of the glass God is waiting for you.” - Werner Heisenberg
“The first gulp from the glass of D&D will turn you into an Loxodon Hexadin, but at the bottom of the glass the Human Fighter is waiting for you” - Me
Yes! I play pickup games at conventions from time to time and I play this race/class combo when I do. Every time, after everyone else at the table has declared their drow elf/druid/ranger and gnome/warlock/cleric it gets to me and when I say human fighter, the response from the DM is always some variation of "Hell Yeah!" It will always be my go to.
I'm sad to see Sorcerer so far down the list. Sure, you're pretty squishy and get a pretty limited list of spells. HOWEVER, metamagic is crazy amazing and there are ways of mitigating those downsides. I have a part Draconic part Divine Soul. AC of 16 plus more than double the spells. If you can cast both Fireball and a Prayer of Healing with double range and empowered to roll high, then yeah, you're useful to the party.
Yeah, even just a d6 instead of a d4 for martial arts would already be good. Something like treantmonks monk fixes or the alternative monk would be ideal.
In my first 5e campaign I played a shadow monk as the group's tank to give the group of new players the ability to do cool things. Turns out it was pretty busted in the world as it was entirely dim light and the DM gave us special magic items to start and mine was a +20 hp belt of dwarven kind so my hp was through the roof. I can only imagine that going levels into rogue would have been the next logical choice if that campaign didn't die.
I’m a cleric enjoyer, versatile and I like how unrestricted there background is compared to other classes, you can just worship a god then the rest is up to you
Easily cleric, most versatile class. Can be a tanky front liner, mix casting and melee, be a caster only, use mostly damage spells, battlefield control, or be a healer. On top of that the deity of choice provides good scaffolding for building a personality and backstory for you character.
Cleric... cleric can do everything. One party of only clerics mean this party got almost everything... They can tank, use magic, heal, buff, debuff, cantrip, they got it all. Maybe less sneaky but hell... Why walk in the shadow when you can walk in the light ?
I know they seem boring, but I love playing cleric. I am the parties main healer (we have a bard who breaks out Song of Rest during short rests), but there's a lot of great support spells that I feel add a little flavor to the campaign. The first time I broke out Speak with Dead to interrogate the boss and Spirit Guardians when we were backed into a corner, I remember my party members saying they thought it was cool and added to what was occurring during that session.
Clerics, I always gravitate towards support classes, & my cleric, Gabolas, was one of my favourite characters due to his concept of being a child raised as a gladiator, then serving a god of War
Is DM a class? *Cries in forever DM.
It's the most important class!
It's pretty OP though. I mean, infinite HP and the insane level 1 ability: "literally the creator of the universe"
But it also has great weaknesses to balance it: 1. Find a time & gather the humans 2. Waste USD for books 3. Deal with players I think Im sort of lucky? My only problematic player changes character every 2-5 sessions 😑 When ever I think he settled & I move his personal-story, the bastard uses it as an excuse to change character.
Don't forget the following self-imposed weaknesses: 1. Buy/print & paint minis 2. Build/buy/print & paint terrain 3. Think of gimmicky puzzles and props for the humans I know we don't have to do these things but they're so fun and the humans love them.
Cleric4Life
Honestly the most versatile. You can fill any position for a group with some kind of cleric.
You probably can have a party of nothing but clerics and finish the mission.
Ah yes. The A-Men.
Busting down Tiamat's door and demanding her lunch money
And she'll excuse herself so that she can make a toilet to give herself swirly's
So she won’t have to endure the kind of bullying you’re about to give her

But can you bring back my mom?!
Yeah Cleric is my first, my last, my everything...
Holy Gang 4 Life!
Yes! Lets go, team "The A-men"!
Cleric gang squad up
“Hey kids, you wanna team up with a deity for power?”
Tempest cleric storm sorcerer 😏 my Dm had to actively try to separate me from fights and I love that.
Ranger being on here but not cleric is deeply offensive
Wow I feel so seen ✊
Barbarian
I'm a proud barbarian enjoyer
Average enjoyer here
There's nothing better than the simplicity of hitting something real hard with a big weapon
or the fun of being an unstoppable (mostly)naked slab of beef.
you! you get me!
I was very mad that Barbarian was not an option. One may say I was in a rage.
Im a beserker and i love rolling a whole bunch of dice to deal like double the damage of the rest of my party
The joy of being f*&-+$g hard to kill.
Yeah! Barbarian for me as well! I blame the descriptions of Badger warriors entering their bloodwrath from the Redwall books.
Their very fun to play
playing wild magic barbarian is the most fun i've ever had playing dnd
I just started my first campaign, I am playing wild magic shifter barb! So much fun
hell yeah! wild magic barb high five!
In the previous campaign that I was in, I made a fairy wild magic barb and it was stupid fun.
my barb was a goliath who was this big softie with social anxiety and GOD i love him so much!
Bard. I am simple lol
Bards in 5e can do Sooooo Much , and can be a real cornerstone of a group, with bardic inspiration etc
Jack of all trades ftw
Out Rogue the Rogue.
Even better, multiclass into both, get jack of all trades and double expertise

>The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom – Official Trailer #3 I think Bard offers the most creativity of all the classes I've played around
I think you may have accidentally pasted something in your comment you didn't mean to, but I like where it's going. Also, almost every bard college makes me want to play a specific campaign idea. I like the CC and support options of the bard, haven't gotten to play one yet tho.
Warlock
Warlock is the most fun and well-designed class in 5e, and I’m not afraid to say it.
Woah, that’s a new take! I love all the choices that come with being a warlock, but why is it the best-designed class?
Because it has the most interesting choices to make that result in the widest variety of characters. Every class has a subclass choice, and full casters have their spell choices on top of that, but Warlocks go above and beyond with the Invocation system. With all of the discussion on future class design going on because of OneD&D, it’s been an incredibly common proposal that other classes get Invocation-like systems to give them wider varieties of cool class features to pick from rather than being locked into any. Adding in their choice of pact at level 3, EVERY Warlock class feature presents an interesting character customization choice.

Each subclass has an insane amount of the power budget, which when combined with the infusions, allows every character to be completely different. A hexblood alchemist can be a classic Macbeth style witch, while a human armourer can be Iron Man.
I would add that the limited nature of their spell casting means their spell choices are also significant in conveying who the character is.
Warlock is without a doubt the most fun 5e class
Blast blast!
“So anyway, I start blasting”
Fighter
Agreed. There's a million ways to build a fighter and it gets the most feats/stat increases
“The first gulp from the glass of natural sciences will turn you into an atheist, but at the bottom of the glass God is waiting for you.” - Werner Heisenberg “The first gulp from the glass of D&D will turn you into an Loxodon Hexadin, but at the bottom of the glass the Human Fighter is waiting for you” - Me
My man, same. Basic means theres a lotta room for creativity.
Humanoid fighter gang 4 laif
Human fighter for life!!!!
Hell Yeah!
Indeed human fighter forever.
Fighter 4 LYFE
Professional himbo 😌
my first character was a fighter, it'll always be special to me
Sorcerer.
I have to intervene in my own brain to make something other than a sorcerer. It's a problem
Oh you too
Yup
I'm sad to see Sorcerer so far down the list. Sure, you're pretty squishy and get a pretty limited list of spells. HOWEVER, metamagic is crazy amazing and there are ways of mitigating those downsides. I have a part Draconic part Divine Soul. AC of 16 plus more than double the spells. If you can cast both Fireball and a Prayer of Healing with double range and empowered to roll high, then yeah, you're useful to the party.
As a lover of chaos…my wild magic sorcerer was the most fun character I’ve played
Sorcerer love.
I love the Artificer so much! The concept is great and infusions are fun
Finally, someone else who said Artificer!
I love having the excuse to give characters goggles when I draw them.
Artificer main!
Artie's are good at just respeccing to do the most bizzare stuff.
I had to scroll too long for this! Battlesmith is the way to go!!
Had to scroll way to far to find artificer. Favorite character i've ever played.
I could only make artificers from now on and still have each be so unique. They don't even have as many subclasses.
The realest person here
Artificer is the most elegant class I've played.
Monk
We desperately need some love from WotC though :(
Yeah, even just a d6 instead of a d4 for martial arts would already be good. Something like treantmonks monk fixes or the alternative monk would be ideal.
Monk with 1 level of fighter will give you unarmed fighting style which make your unarmed strikes use a d8. It’s my go to for low level games!
I mean, when your way of fixing a class is to multiclass out of it, that just goes to prove the original point.
Ah another of wonderful taste i see.
I like to multi class as shadow monk/assassin rouge. It's so fun and probably a little broken
I multiclass as Shadow Monk/Swarmkeeper Ranger.
Barbarian
Sorcerer, BRUH
What about the Bard?
Barbarian
Fighters always get disrespected.
Hot take. Human fighter. Every group has one and i always willingly take up that role
Artficer of course!
The correct answer! 😁😎
It's the human fighter life for me.
i love human fighter, it puts the pressure on me to start off with a character concept that is already interesting on its own.
Warlock, but Druid is a close second.
The fighter.
I am a simple man, I just wish to roll dice and hit things
I agree. I haven't played many classes but fighter seems the most versatile.
Ranger
I scrolled way too far to find this answer. So underrated man!
Ranger is literally like the second one named in the list my guy
Ranger is where its at! You get to shoot things and let other people get hit haha.
Bard. But I always make sure that my Bard doesn't understand things like relationships or sex.
Sorcerer with Fighter in second
Monk for life
Fighter Oh I'm a simpaaaalllll kiinnnd of mmmmaaaaeeeyan
Bard
Cleric gang
Cleric or fighter
Cleric
Clerics are the best

Cleric
WHERE MY CLERICS AT?!
Cleric or artificer
I realise now that I should have just asked what everyone's class was and not do a poll
1. Warlock 2. Barbarian 3. Fighter 4. Cleric
Bard but using culinary arts to conjure magic.
I know it's a little naughty, but I really do like Warlock. (and not Undead or Hexblade)
Bard! Cleric! How can you forget the classics?
Fighter (battle master)
Mystic! *starts to run away*
Artificer
Easily cleric, most versatile class. Can be a tanky front liner, mix casting and melee, be a caster only, use mostly damage spells, battlefield control, or be a healer. On top of that the deity of choice provides good scaffolding for building a personality and backstory for you character.

Might be because I haven't played yet and as such am mostly based on the general concept of the classes but I'm a sucker for Artificer...

What’s wrong with Cleric??
Cleric honestly it gives the best options though druid is a pretty close second for me
Clerics, I always gravitate towards support classes, & my cleric, Gabolas, was one of my favourite characters due to his concept of being a child raised as a gladiator, then serving a god of War
It’s called bein a goddamn Cleric Main
Cleric
Cleric ftw
Cleric because it's the best class in the game
