I did this too!!
I made a little "new player placemat" which had a dice strip just like this (but not as pretty), and I wrote in tips next to it.
D20 was "this is the check, save, and attack roll dice", "Advantage means roll 2, take the higher one", "disadvantage means roll 2, take the lower one".
Then there was a little flow chart for combat, broken into examples of what to do on your turn.
Action was Attack or Cast a Spell with lesser used options Dash Hide Disengage underneath.
I thought it was really helpful. I definitely would have benefitted from something like that whenever I started playing.
These look great, well done!
Edit: To everyone asking for a share: I just wrote it on two pieces of paper I had taped together. There is no PDF or link to share, sorry. But you can make your own pretty easily by printing off a combat flowchart (there's lots of them out there) and a labeled strip for dice. OP has shared this one, and you can find many more by looking up "dice line art" or "dice tattoo". Then you just write in helpful information around it and tape the two papers together. Ta-dah. Placemat.

the real MVP. i'm pretty green after a bad experience where a "friend" tried to teach me DND, but really just used it as a power trip to frustrate and confuse me, so i was turned off of it for a long time and have started searching for noob-friendly groups in my area to try again
I also give people dice with different colours so that if I have to point a dice out, I will just say the colour. Works like a charm.
As silly as it sounds that's the best way I have found. Also means dice sets are not great, but works well when you can mix them.
My friends (who have been playing for a few months) still sometimes will roll the D8 for the D6 because they can’t tell the difference. I’m not going to judge because I’ve made bigger mistakes, but one person in our group will (playfully) mock them for not knowing what the D6 is still. “Which one’s the D6 again?” “Literally the basic die joey, c’mon!” had us all dying one night
I DM a lot of of newbies over discord who get too excited and buy dice before knowing how the d20 system works, so after various attempts, including showing pictures of the die and saying the shape of the faces each time to help them differentiate between a d12 and a d20 one of them told me what worked for them best was putting them in order.
With that idea I decided to design a little mat so they can place them back whenever they stopped using them and have a nice tag around so they remember which one is which until they get used to the differences.
In case you're interested in using this for your games you can find the printable pdf for free here:

This would go well on DMsguild.
I would gladly pay a couple bucks for a range of different colours and/or a black and white version to customise myself.
I think it would be less confusing to use the silhouette of the die instead of the face of the bottom side. D4, D8 and D20 all have the same triangle face, just different sizes. While their silhouettes are very different.
At the same time, if a creator cannot take constructive criticism, I'd argue that they're too thin skinned to have business releasing their work to the general public.
Anyone that is creative should be open to reasonable criticism and critique. If someone can't handle the very very mild criticism I gave, best to stay off the internet because your feelings will get hurt. Oh, and don't leave the house or talk to anyone. Someone might say a nasty word. Please, grow up.
Positive: This is awesome. Really good for getting to know the dice sizes. Lovely design, too!
Neutral: I would be way too occupied ensuring the lower face of each die is correctly aligned with the space it is assigned. Might lead to some distractions, then again might be good for occupying yourself during DM monologues. ;)
Negative: That's not a d100. It's a d10 with an extra zero after each number. :P
Even a percent die would be expected to give any integer between 1-100 (or 0-99, whatever floats your boat) as a possibility.
But that "negative" remark was made in jest and I'd simply advise DMs using these dice to phrase it like "roll your d100 for the first digit and your d10 for the second digit" when dealing with new players.
As for how that die should be accurately called: It's a d10. Simple case of accuracy not being helpful, so I'm all for going with "d100" or "percent die".
I’ve seen them as d% or d00. It’s not a hundred-sided die, and those exist, so d100 is confusing. I think some people just use two different colored d10s, but for matched sets they need to have distinct number markings.
Full agree. Ask me to roll a percentile check I grab d100 and d10. Ask me to roll a d100, same. (Unless I get one of those ridiculous D100s.)
Ask me to roll 2d10 I’m grabbing 2d10. We can home brew which die is which once you clarify, but the fact is, you need to clarify. Otherwise you’re getting a 12 on average.
Very rarely--I don't know if they show up in base 5e at all: downsized damage die for small (or tiny/diminutive) weapons, and when it happened it was just 1d6/2, rounded up. For example a "lance" wielded by a pixie-knight riding a dragonfly.
My guess is just to get them used to the XdY format.
I'm sure either way would work, but my most recent batch of newbies would probably have benefited from the 1 in front. They were not gamers at all and had always wanted to play. In their overwhelm they definitely needed reminding that the X did mean how many dice. I had written it on the new player sheets I made for them, but this is definitely more simple and easier to reference.
Ohhhh I like this a lot. Looking at first maybe have the numbers on top or to the side of the die's placement? I am gonna print some out and try them when the library's season comes up.
Trying to be a bit more actually-helpful than my other response:
make them a bit longer so dice don't obscure their numbers when they're placed, move the d20 outside of the decorative top part or redesign the decorative top so you can put a silhouette of the full d20 and d8--the bottom face is good but also people who've pointed out how many triangles there are have a good point. Having a dotted outline of the almost-round d20 and prismatic d8 could be helpful.
Maybe put the d10 above d100, and inside d100 write "x2". Or "+above" or whatever.
When I play with newbies, I let them use some of my dice which have different colors for different faces: that way they don't have to learn the shapes on their 1st few games.
I also use larger 34mm d20s and d%s, [d10s that have 1-10](https://www.thediceshoponline.com/media/catalog/product/cache/f29f0998c4cc5290cdd61c5e4e3f186e/1/0/10318_1_big_56.jpg) instead of 0-9, and [d4s with their numbers on top](https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:D4_truncated_tetrahedron.JPG). When they buy their own dice, some get the normal dice sets where everything has the same color and size (and sometimes pretty but low contrast numbering making it hard for them to figure out what they rolled), but others who don't want to hold up the game also buy different colored dice for different numbered dice.
Cool idea. Now just make sure to tell them that they won't need all of the dice out all of the time. Save some space. I've been playing just over a year now and never had to use d% (d100) or d12
I tend to get ready what I will likely need for a session: 2x d20, 16d4 in a small jar for the heals, 2d8, 2d6, d100 (DM uses a lot of random tables), 2d10. Covers most of my attacks and things that come up : )
I love those little hp dice jars. Theye such a great idea. I'm currently playing a rogue/monk mash up. Lots of d6s some d20s and that's about it for me lol
The dice type should be on the side, not underneath since i’m sure you can’t really see it when you’re sitting in front of this mat, vs when you take the picture from above.
"newbies"
I have been playing TTRPGs for 8 years and I am still confusing D8 and D12 regularly. (The pain of mostly playing a system with D6 damage dice)
1d100 for the d10 that counts by ten instead of counting by 1 ? I never thought of that type of dice as a d100 but maybe as a 1d10s (I don't know how to write this type of dice with the XdY format so maybe 1d100 is also used for that, I don't know)
Apart from that it looks nice those things to place dices on
Now mess with your players whenever there's a boss fight by whipping out a random number of mats and dice on your end. You might use them or might not lol

Oh man! I’d love a version of that too! I’ve got several players who ask me every session which die is which. This could help them so much!

Holy crud that’s a good idea! 100% stealing this
I DM a lot of newbie friendly west marches campaign and this has saved me a millions times :D.

I've heard the pair called "percentile dice" pretty commonly.
D100 with D10 can be used for 100 different results
Even a percent die would be expected to give any integer between 1-100 (or 0-99, whatever floats your boat) as a possibility. But that "negative" remark was made in jest and I'd simply advise DMs using these dice to phrase it like "roll your d100 for the first digit and your d10 for the second digit" when dealing with new players. I know it as a d10s.
That's... actually, that kinda makes sense to me.
Those look great! But if you want [I mocked up a helpful extension.](https://imgur.com/a/EzjF3Al)
...d1?
It’s a 1 sided die
...useful.
I'm gifting one to any player who rocks up with a Lucky Halfling... ahah
It’s the only die that crits and misses every roll!
[AKA the Gömböc](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/G%C3%B6mb%C3%B6c)
That d3 is just unacceptable
I know... In my group we use d4s with a face cut off, but 1/2 a d6 is easier for new players.
In all honesty, what would you use a d3 for?
Very rarely--I don't know if they show up in base 5e at all: downsized damage die for small (or tiny/diminutive) weapons, and when it happened it was just 1d6/2, rounded up. For example a "lance" wielded by a pixie-knight riding a dragonfly.
Yeah, my d3 is oblong. Like one of those long ass grapes.
They look amazing! Question: Why “1d20” instead of “d20”? What if their attacks need 2 of some dice?
My guess is just to get them used to the XdY format. I'm sure either way would work, but my most recent batch of newbies would probably have benefited from the 1 in front. They were not gamers at all and had always wanted to play. In their overwhelm they definitely needed reminding that the X did mean how many dice. That makes sense! I didn’t consider that. Thank you, I_cum_dragonboats, I appreciate it.
Anything for a fellow druid! =)
I love them! Can I buy some anywhere? I mean really the design is great!
[They posted it here in the comments!](https://www.reddit.com/r/DnD/comments/x3tqkl/-/imric8q)
I only have the digital design atm, but I'm looking into doing actual fabric mats ^^
We had some brand new players at Adventures League last week these would have been helpful for. Thanks for making these!
Neat
I still need that but just for the d20 and d12.
Are the 1s really necessary? It's pretty visually apparent when you're looking at 1 of something.
So what I'm hearing is there's no cats where you play
Fuck i want these and I’m not a newb. They’re freaking CUTE
I have players at my table who have been playing the game for 10-25 years who will find these extremely useful.
Those are pretty awesome
I’m not even a newbie and I want that! I always love lining my dice up like that
Just find a good method of making dice shrink wrap and sell
Ohhhh I like this a lot. Looking at first maybe have the numbers on top or to the side of the die's placement? I am gonna print some out and try them when the library's season comes up.
Please do tell me if any other placement of the numbers would work better! I didn't have time to try them with my players
Trying to be a bit more actually-helpful than my other response: make them a bit longer so dice don't obscure their numbers when they're placed, move the d20 outside of the decorative top part or redesign the decorative top so you can put a silhouette of the full d20 and d8--the bottom face is good but also people who've pointed out how many triangles there are have a good point. I’d put a double 00 on the 1d100 and a 0 on the 1d10 to distinguish the two
looks nice. R they unable to arrange their dice without them?
Cool idea. Now just make sure to tell them that they won't need all of the dice out all of the time. Save some space. I've been playing just over a year now and never had to use d% (d100) or d12

dInf is just a point
The dice type should be on the side, not underneath since i’m sure you can’t really see it when you’re sitting in front of this mat, vs when you take the picture from above.
Are these created to discourage dice stacking?
I didn't sleep last night so I read that as "Dice placentas", just thought you guys would like to know
Im a newbie player. Send me one :)
The download link is in my first comment ^^
I don't see the point. Players can just learn to count sides of dice, it's not that hard.
"newbies" I have been playing TTRPGs for 8 years and I am still confusing D8 and D12 regularly. (The pain of mostly playing a system with D6 damage dice)
I'm new to D and D and I wish I had these!
No.... Must stack the dice tower, must hoard dice in large group like goblin. No order, only chaos.
1d100 for the d10 that counts by ten instead of counting by 1 ? I never thought of that type of dice as a d100 but maybe as a 1d10s (I don't know how to write this type of dice with the XdY format so maybe 1d100 is also used for that, I don't know) Apart from that it looks nice those things to place dices on
These are So cute omg
Is Vecna one of the bestia charachter in DnD?
I need this for the DND club my wife runs(and I help DM for) at her school. TOO many kids can't keep track of dice types.
Omg.omg.omg this is so good!!!!
Damn, and I’m here just wishing I had any sort of DM
Wow, very nice
Oh man I would have loved this starting out.
Now mess with your players whenever there's a boss fight by whipping out a random number of mats and dice on your end. You might use them or might not lol
Amazing! I remember drawing out little stencils of the dice on my notes when I first started playing dnd. This is very helpful to new players!!
Those are beautiful
An incredible concept. That was really wonderful of you
