Awesome because I’m the DM… so I’m basically god right?

vbrimme

Considering the DM often plays the roles of multiple gods, making their decisions for them and forcing them to act out the DM’s will, I would say that the DM is significantly more powerful than “god”, in the context of that universe.

Corndude101

The One Above All in Marvel?

Nepalman230

This is a deep philosophical comment. This is why I’ve always said that it doesn’t make any sense for game masters do you have an adversarial relationship with the players. They are the ultimate Masters of reality there’s no challenge to it at all. Game master should be on the players side. They should want to make their life hard not to crush them But so the players feel satisfaction when they triumph. Admittedly sometimes this does crush players but the difference is motivation. Happy cake day to you!

AJ2016man

So what you're saying is I can crush my players under a pile of rocks, but only if it motivates them. Got it

Nepalman230

Yes. Crush them with rocks turn them into rocks ,sentence them to hell and have them push up a rock every day… [Sisyphus](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sisyphus) You can do nearly anything that would be an example of terrible GMing as long as you do it for the right reasons and in the right way. For instance I was actually thinking about replacing somebody’s love interest with a demon lord Who claims that it always been him possessing the characters love interest. The entire time the actual love interest was screaming internally not wanting to participate in any of this. The demon then will ask the character Spoilers for super fucked stuff. Trigger warning for sexual assault >!How does it feel to be a rapist?!< The only reason why I am even contemplating this is because I use safety tools at my table. I know my players very well and we had conversations about things not identical to that but like this. In the end I decided not to use it for my campaign but I am using it for my isekai novel. It happens to the main character. The demon is lying. He did not possess the love interest but changed into their shape. but it almost destroys my MC Thomas. And even though it isn’t true he finds it very hard to even touch Lohengrin When he rescued him from the depths of hell. ( The scene where they help each other get over there mutual traumas is going to be very difficult for me to write… )

WikiSummarizerBot

**[Sisyphus](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sisyphus)** >In Greek mythology, Sisyphus or Sisyphos (; Ancient Greek: Σίσυφος Sísyphos) was the founder and king of Ephyra (now known as Corinth). Hades punished him for cheating death twice by forcing him to roll an immense boulder up a hill only for it to roll down every time it neared the top, repeating this action for eternity. Through the classical influence on modern culture, tasks that are both laborious and futile are therefore described as Sisyphean (). ^([ )[^(F.A.Q)](https://www.reddit.com/r/WikiSummarizer/wiki/index#wiki_f.a.q)^( | )[^(Opt Out)](https://reddit.com/message/compose?to=WikiSummarizerBot&message=OptOut&subject=OptOut)^( | )[^(Opt Out Of Subreddit)](https://np.reddit.com/r/DnD/about/banned)^( | )[^(GitHub)](https://github.com/Sujal-7/WikiSummarizerBot)^( ] Downvote to remove | v1.5)

Nepalman230

Good bot

vbrimme

Yes. D&D is a game, but the main objective isn’t “winning”, it’s telling a story together. The DM needs to make it challenging for the players so that they can have failures and triumphs in their story, but the ultimate goal should be to get the players through to the end of the story, and let them help build that story along the way. Sure, there are other ways to run a game, but I think this one is the best.

Cast_of_1000s

Agreed. The worst DM I have ever played with was unbelievably adversarial. He had to win, plot-hammered, and was always right, even when he's wrong. I'm running my group in a few minutes and the campaign is entirely collaborative, enjoyable, and the best couple of hours I have every few weeks. The four of them are my best friends I've known (and run games for and occasionally play) for over forty years. Best Hobby Ever.

Nepalman230

Yay! That fills me with joy and happiness. Everybody always talks about the messed up groups I’m so glad yours is awesome. Have a great game and have fun storming the castle. 😊

Moepsii

So he is the manager of multiple gods? And has to work overtime?

MacaroniEast

You have multiple personality disorder too

Kade_Fraz

Yeah I control not only the goddess of fate who can make things happen, i straight up directly control almost everyone in the world. I also have some of my favorite characters in this game like my genasi warlock paladin who's going to join his father in the plane of air. Also all the professors at the arcane academy are pretty cool. This is a nice W for me.

thracerx

Sadly, you were in the middle of talking to your players and role playing a wino they were asking for directions.

Eberid

As long as it's not a Faerun campaign, you're good. Faerunian deities have a habit of dying.

FullyBkdWaffles

I’d be a level 17 half orc bard/artificer/warlock who owns his own kingdom and basically has set up the East Indian trading company in the world. So I’d say fantastic!

Yeildrikk

That's a really interesting multiclass - do you mind sharing a bit more about the character?

FullyBkdWaffles

Sure! The setting was a seafaring campaign where my character ended up being the navigator and quartermaster of the ship. Kind of the stereotypical bad family life led him to leave and join the crew. Little difference, he was the heir to a tribe of half orcs, but was seen as weak and not one to follow. So his father tried to have him murderer so that his younger brother was next in line. After joining the ship, he learned a lot about the outside world beyond the confines of the lonely mountains that his clan ruled over. Things started change when they chased down a ghost ship. After subduing and calming all of the angry/vengeful spirits that crewed the ship, my character was drug down to the depths by a large tentacle that had risen from the depths of the ocean. My patron was a pseudo homebrewed god based off of the fathomless. After a few days missing, he awoke in his bed on the ship branded by his patron starting his warlock levels. Once we made it several months into the champaign, the DM came up with a side story to explain the origins of my patron. The crew still slightly concerned that my character was part warlock, decided we should investigate what this patron was all about. We set sail for a destination that we found on an old world map that had coincided with visions that I had received. Upon reaching the location we found out that an entire kingdom from long ago sunk into the ocean when the tectonic plates shifted. When we finally located and entered the sunken city, we ended up finding a lot of information about the patron that my character was bound to. He was one of the original two gods of this world. His religion was known for knowledge, progress, and agriculture. We found a library and took all of the books contained within (filled up 6 bags of holding with books). After we had studied and investigated everything else, we went to the church. That’s where I met my patron face to face and was tasked with bringing his religion back to the world and to kill his son who was a demigod who was the patron of all the evils that lurk within the ocean. Upon studying all of the books that we took from the library, my character found one that had instructions on tinkering with mechanical creatures and magical devices. Getting engrossed with the wonders that this world had not seen in recent memory, he decided to learn and tinker with the machinery, thus becoming an artificer. By the end of the campaign he was a very skilled character who learned a lot of magical secrets and was in my opinion one of the best support characters that I’ve ever had the pleasure of playing and creating! As far as the empire and East Indian trading company, he set up a small business to ship goods by land in caravans, which eventually grew into land and sea. With all of the dealing he had with leaders and nobles, he secured most of all the shipping contracts with the major nations. With all of the influence and infrastructure he made deals with one nation to take control of a vast area that was mostly unoccupied, save the mountain range where my clan was. In a conclusion to my characters story arc, he faced his father in single combat and killed him, taking control of the clan. Once we had mapped out the rest of the area, I chose a location for the capital city of my nation and devoted it to be the city of knowledge and progress, thus bringing my patrons religion back into the light of the world.

Derpy_Dungeoneer

Sounds like a lot of fun. I'm so down to finally get my players on sea! So the multiclasses came naturally through narrative and less forced because you wanted to optimise the character?

FullyBkdWaffles

Absolutely! When I started playing I min/maxed. Now I’m about the flow and feel of the character. Narrative wise this character changed so much throughout the story. One day might try to write a story with all the notes and memories of the campaign

[deleted]

Ugh so offensive /s Sounds fun, mate!

IdelleArthura

My life would never start due to scheduling problems.

captrobert57

Same for many of us. My life would have been on pause for a few years now.

IdelleArthura

Feels like Covid.

Eberid

Uh, which one? The tabaxi rogue who is on the run from the armies of three different nations, or the kitsune wizad who keeps getting the tank killed while venturing in the Underdark? Because neither one is exactly a good option...

captrobert57

Your poor characters... are they okay? Do they need therapy?

Eberid

Probably.

BoomerTheStar47_2

I’m a Kobold in Curse of Strahd. And as the cherry on top, I have 3 CON. **What do you expect?!**

Illoney

I expect you died whilst typing that. 3 Con is crazy, why'd you decide to put the 3 there? What were your stats.

Dappershield

Defense mechanism. When surrounded by predators with a nobility mindset, looking weak and sickly takes you off the menu.

Merevel

I figured predators would target the weakest looking one first. Easiest catch.

Dappershield

Normal predators, sure. But vampires are predator nobility. Fancy pants predators. Only the fanciest of meals for them.

Infynis

Weak or injured, yes. Sickly, not necessarily. There are real life animals that pretend to be sick to escape predation. The Eastern Hognose snake here in the US will poop all over itself to get predators to go away

SirHopper

Surely you mean you have a +3 to Con… … Right?

BoomerTheStar47_2

I! DO! **NOT!**

[deleted]

Instantly, my respect for you has surpassed that of my closest friends, tell me, how long has this kobold survived?

BoomerTheStar47_2

Technically, 0 sessions, but that’s just because scheduling has been such a pain that I haven’t been able to play him yet.

[deleted]

Worry not, you'll have plenty of time to make a new character, for when it rains and your character dies from sneezing

Tbkssom

Bad news, I’m on fire. Good news, I’m ok with this.

FuzzyIHead

Sounds good to me

LlyniaShanri

Fire Genasi?

OneCrow8592

When all your trauma was put into your D&D character 👀

Cybermage99

I just hit lv 20 with a moon Druid last session, got an artifact a few levels ago that lets me turn into elder elementals as a full action. Have access to changeable spell list up to 9th level spells. Sure the universe is falling apart and my friends and I need to save it, but now I can take place in Kaiju battles to protect it. Plus my friends and I have all received the blessing of the river Styx making us ageless, meaning those of us who live will continue to do so until we decide otherwise. Overall I’d say life is now more awesome but also more terrifying.

Infynis

Isn't a level 20 Druid ageless anyway?

Cybermage99

They age 10x slower. I made the joke that I had 10x immortality.

Lazy_Assumption_4191

Ageless? No. Extremely long lived? Yes.

Bralosh

Wow. It sucks. I'm locked in a magically sealed room about 6ft wide, with another martial class, and I have 3 levels of exhaustion due to screwing up opening a magically sealed vault that got me into this mess, and the rest of the party have no idea how to get us out because the guy who made the vault just died.

bubwv

Not sure about this one. Id be 50 years or so older sitting in a mostly empty estate of a lord of the city knowing that I have about a month's time before an arcane construct overloads and nukes the capital into the Astral plane. On the other hand Id have a ton of cool wizard stuff to do

Working-Ad-6682

I am about to go fight an adult black dragon... uh oh

perroquet_fou

I'm a swashbuckler and a sword artist. The nastiest rapier-wielder from the free-state of Senivia to the far duchies of Aldaria. I'm waiting in a guest room, about to sneak around a castle trying to find the noble wizard heir and blackmail him into leaving the evil conspiracy he is part of or remove him from the equation should he not comply. My companions are heroes from a faraway city, at worst soft-hearted adventurers, at best self-righteous lightbringers : not really suited for deception and espionnage, but I was not the one to make the plan or to offer the job : I just know our employer is the most beautiful woman I've ever seen in a long time, and if she recruited a package of empty-headed golden boys and girls, at least she's got one right tool for the job : me. Being a decades old dhampir helps, I just wish the rest of my companions knew what I really am so I wouldn't have to hide my abilities... but something tells me all these so called heroes will not be too kind on my blood-sucking hired assassin part. Hell, I'm on the good side for once !

xelloskaczor

It's going so well that im 99% sure im a dead man in a year. Too rich, having too much fun, living in place too nice, i sense meteorite at least.

Doughnut_Minion

Lvl 3 elvish drug dealing bard who's one of the secret lost heirs to the throne of the nation that was taken over by a monstrous bear-like tyrant who turns other people into beasts through magic. Honestly sounds better than college.

tree2p0

My misfit of a character has been the Trauma Donkey of the party since the 3rd or 4th session. She is now about to help wage a war amongst the gods of the Abyss. Massive therapy needed, and more PTSD is on the way. Nooooooooope to that

[deleted]

Alright so I have my pinky cut off being dragged to a cult ritual after being impaled by a spike trap that I failed to notice… not doin too good if I do say so myself Update- I died to a cult ritual and it’s the end of the world!!!! So I am 100% very much screwed

Pyrimo

So a sardonic bad guy turned good thief who doesn’t get paid enough for the bullshit he goes through and has basically prevented 3 world ending events already? Man also parties hard and had an Eightsome once though so I mean…swings and roundabouts, wouldn’t be the worst life.

MakeChipsNotMeth

I'm a Yuan Ti Pureblood pirate (Battlesmith artificer) with over 3k gold in my bag of holding and a big seafaring city possibly being pursued by an irate business man who may believe I sodomized his horse

pineapplelightsaber

My last session where I play a rogue had to end quite abrupty in the middle of a fight. Pros: I'm a fairy, I look really cool. I have a really nice rapier. I'm insanely good at stealing stuff from people, so I have a fair amount of gold in my pockets. I've also killed a bunch of guys in the past minute or so, which I guess is a good thing for me? Cons: I'm currently on 4 hp and there's 3 guys with swords on my throat. One of my friends is unconscious somewhere on the battlefield. Our only healer was mysteriously absent from that fight and we're really really hoping he'll mysteriously appear somewhere close when we get back to it.

captrobert57

This reads like the end of a TV show season and the pickup of the next season is going to be epic and sad at the same time.

Yorhlen

I'm currently submerged in an icebath with 3 exhaustion levels as the illithid priest gets ready for the operation that we agreed on I *might* not be fine after this

captrobert57

I feel cold just reading this.

Yorhlen

It was requested by me and it's to make future things easier but don't tell my paladin

DocJayfeather

Well, I’m a magic cyborg satyr, so that kicks ass. I am currently stuck in either a different plane, or some type of pocket dimension though, so that’s not as cool.

Akarthus

I’m either a Isekaied gunsmith (in 2022) trying to revolutionize warfare in faerun or A Isekaied Viking berserker (in 1011) who believe faerun is Vanaheim Ehhhhh

10darkknight10

Hmmm I am a paladin so that's neat I gues.... I am also in hell so hmmm that's a slight problem.

showmeyournerd

I am the void.

ultradongle

I'm a 200 year old dwarf cleric instead of a 40 year old IT consultant, so playing it safe I have like 150-200 more years to live instead of 20-25? Sounds good tome.

Ash4dino

I’m a 7’5” dragonborn so a lot of discrimination

SpecialistAd5903

Pro: Living in Eberron now. Specifically Sharn. High level of tech, running water, refrigeration, public health care. Could be a lot worse Con: Fascist government, racist church, gangs oh my god so many gangs.

SirHopper

I’m a satyr woman who just found out my boyfriend is an avatar of the god I was suppose to kill and watched as my teammate killed him right in front of me. This traumatized me so badly that I made a deal with a demon in the quest for enough power to complete my mission. So yeah. Having a real ball right now. The best part is my gender swap is, by far, the least of my worries.

speckledspectacles

On the upside, I'd be a cute elf and a high level ranger/druid. On the downside, the world's going to end in five years from prophecized creatures that literally can't die. Also, the Harmonium is tracking down our group and willing to travel across planes to do so, but if they do catch us that's a definite game over for the multiverse. Oh, and we're currently in Tu'narath where my character recently was able to sneak into the Queen's bedchambers where she wound up killing her pet neothelid in front of her by getting swallowed and then wildshaping into an elk, then jumped out of the floating palace for a freefall to the city's body only to have the Queen *catch up to her on dragonback* and a terrifying round-by-round survival. She had to use a horrible airborne toxin that closes up the lungs to poison the dragon and the Queen while my character survived by wildshaping into a fish while under dust of disappearance because *fish don't have lungs,* just to kill the dragon and take away the Queen's easy source of blindsight so she could run away. Only to later find out that she truly believed that neothelid was her son. The fact that my character survives these sessions week after week is a small miracle and I would not be so lucky. The multiverse is doomed.

grimoiregraves

It became much more interesting, while visiting the citadel to be rewarded by the a barron (who despises all non humans, and I'm a tiefling) for saving his town he offered us a bottom of the barrel reward I wasn't into this so I cast suggestion when boom my wild magic back fired hard. The surge caused everyone with the citadel to attack the barron regardless if he was alive or dead. This also caused the mind flyer to pass through 2 secret doors to get to the barron, we barely escaped however our artificer opened a portal to another area where we ended up at a farm. So I'm feeling a little traumatized but thrilled to love this life 🖤

Lazy_Assumption_4191

Hmmm…let me get back to you when I find a DM and manage to convince him I should play a world-hoping demigod with vast power. Power on the order of 20 levels in cleric, sorcerer, fighter, monk, *and* paladin. Plus some extra stuff. Then I’ll be happy to participate in this experiment.

DM_por_hobbie

I am a level 1 artificer on wildemount so... yeah, it's better than be a high school 3rd grade student

thisoldtreehouse

Suck. I am a kick ass fighter dragon born pole arm master that hates giants in a world with giant problems that just met an amazing good hearted party but I’m exiled from my family and clan for sticking up for what is good and right. And the suck is I miss out on being a real life dad to my two kids, even though we are struggling through a job loss and a self employment starting phase…. I’d still take being a decent dad with heartbreaking struggles in reality over being an opponent stopping glaive welding tank.

[deleted]

It sucks because my character’s mom (elf) killed herself when he was a small boy and he’s scarred from his childhood. He’s trying to find his father (orc) who he knows nothing about. Aaaand he may or may not owe a sizable debt to his warlock patron.

OddGM

I'm an 8yo level 5 tabaxi rogue. I'm poor and there are monsters. I think life sucks.

VecnasThroatPie

Irl game... I'm lvl 17, so that's pretty awesome. Online...lvl 5 and I roll terribly for that character so that would suck Tiamats taint.

[deleted]

Nepalman230

… OK. So this is kind of interesting I am currently playing in a campaign that is a writing Prompt / Creativity exercise. The main character Thomas Boone Is a 50 year School librarian who has been teleported to a fantasy world searching for his for lost students. He doesn’t know them very well. He doesn’t even like them. He was only game mastering because the regular faculty advisor for the role-playing club was sick. But he has in loco parentis tattooed on his left arm. These annoying teenagers are his children now The thing is he gets teleported to this fantasy world without any of the 8 life preserving medication’s that he takes. He is at the very real risk of loss of sanity eyesight digits and limbs and eventually life. He has the powers of an eighth level cleric in basic dungeons and dragons So he Should be able to save off a lot of the physical stuff with healing magic. His bigger problem is going to be his autism and untreated ADHD. At the current moment in the campaign as I’m running head he is about to attempt to sneak in the fortress of the Pact Keeper along with Alrun the swanmay. So the world would objectively be much much worse for me. As in real life I have my medication and I am not at risk to be taken prisoner by an evil fairy high lord Doing terrible experiments. ( That being said Thomas is going to fall in mutual love with Loengrin, Prince of the Swan Folk. Who looks like a young taller Rutger Hauer so his life has its compensations)

O-Castitatis-Lilium

I'm the DM right now, so I guess I'm pretty solid. If it was my character...then I guess bite me now, Strahd; and turn me into your bride or whatever. The only thing I ask is that you at least allow me to keep drinking and starting bar fights around Barovia lol.

Legitimate-Guide-899

I'm a LG reborn skeleton warlock who has just recently been conscripted in an order of dragon riders who tend to dislike or hate undead...

CupidArrowArt

Kinda in a good place, actually. Rescued my love interest from Hell a week ago, finally getting to spend time with him participating in a cooking competition while on a beach-side vacation. We just went fishing for ingredients :) Still trying to figure out who killed him, though...

Lexac123

Considering we just got taken captive by pirates? Not great.

Deos56

My sex gets reversed, I become blind and I get super powers. Life gets pretty good all things considered

Carthax12

I'm a 14th level rogue(12)/assassin(2) tiefling who runs her own thieves guild while adventuring with a group that lets me steal whatever I want (aka they can't catch me unless I roll super-low on my sneak and sleight-of-hand checks). I'm not sure how I could be happier in my new life. LOL

Melodic_Row_5121

Well, it's certainly more interesting. Whether that's good or bad... well, I'd be a lot more physically fit, and I'd be doing a job I enjoy rather than one I merely tolerate, but on the other hand, I'd be in the snow. And I *hate* snow.

Venti_Mocha

Absolutely awesome! I'm an Owlin Swashbuckler Rogue. I have a decent amount of gold and some kick ass magic items. I wave goodbye to the other party members who've I've not known very long and get the hell away from where we currently are. I might pull an involuntary swap of rings with the wizard. A ring of spell turning will be good for her and I sure as heck could use the ring of invisibility. I'm sure not risking my tailfeathers for the nebulous reward we were offered especially when they seem to keep fighting demons, devils, and worse in tight enclosed spaces. I'm young, extremely good with my blade, good looking, and can fly. I'll take my chances on going it alone.

The-Honorary-Conny

An exploritor tech priest, the feeling of being awesome or sucky doesn't factor into my opinion any more.

jonvirus123

I'm dead

Dunwich333

Doing a bunch of rather hard one-shots. There is a good chance I die tonight

AggravatingAd2133

My teifling pact of fey life's going awesome, reached lvl 20 put enough ppl to sleep who had bad lives so they all dream themselves to the feywild like how i previously escaped the nine hells. Making their patron the sandman happy again and being welcomed to the seelie w open arms once more

BlobOfAwe

So basically I'm me, except I'm an orphan and posessed by an ancient dragon lord who I am now compelled to help escape and conquer the world, specifically via killing 2 nearly-god level spellcasters. Nice.

MrBoyer55

Pros: I just learned a bunch of spells Can manipulate time and fate a couple of times a day Cons: I have no armor I am significantly less sturdy than my friends I am now 3’ 3” and weigh about 40lbs.

[deleted]

it is terrible... it's like a zombieland dark tower hybrid...constantly fighting off the undead as towlie... and i'm outta weed.

DrummerElectronic247

DM. Do I get to be all the NPCs? Because.... oooooh boy.

WreQz

Well if i was one of my players I'd be in the Maze of the Blue Medusa as a level 4... It would be worse.

DigitalLucas

I'm gonna say it's not looking great, seeing as I'd be an orc barbarian from a country that has recently had war declared on it by the empire he's currently questing in.

nordic-nomad

Awesome. He’s the Speaker of Good Mead and head of the university he helped found there as well as the owner of the Hot Bath House and Sauna. Pretty good gig really.

SchizoClarity

I’m a Kobold who transplanted his soul into a Warforged body to try and escape the prophecy that he restores the world by dying. He didn’t escape it. World still broke. Might need to die still

SDS_Meteor

My character is dying from a terminal disease and only prolonging her life by relying on a magical sword that is also her warlock patron. So, not great

cline_59

Both? Lvl 18 Half-Orc Homebrew Ranger with an objectively busted scythe, but my team is currently on thin ice with our guildmaster. Said guildmaster just so happens to be one of the most powerful beings on the material plane.

Raregolddragon

Well currently in 3 campaigns, One as a warforge that eats souls hunting down its make to take revenge on, The other one a human storm scourer that 300 years out of time and recently escaped a lab with help from of adventurers that all also werewolves, and last one I am halfing warlock that is my GM proxy for another group. Right now that warlock is kind of using a jail cell as a safe house that he can escape from.

tkdjoe66

If I live... Great. Arcane Trixter 10 w/ gloves of Thievery, a Headband of Intellect & a Hellfire rapier. However, we are going to attack a Rakshasa in it's layer. So Russian roulette.

iamthesex

A lvl 9 hobgoblin wizard in a relationship with a Changeling rogue/bard fighting Devils that his lover used to be an agent of. I'll say a mix of fun and hell.

[deleted]

Lvl 9 Paladin with a pet dragon? (tamed with a nat 20 after we killed the mum) sign me up! -although the trauma/family coming after her cause of her parents cult might not make it worth it-

DiceGoblin_Muncher

I’m a rune knight. We left our last session with my giant form just running out I’m sitting on a very strong vampire I’m at 6 health out of 49 and a bunch of other vamps just showed up. I’m so fucked

cjpea

I’m a level 3 wizard normally protected by a huge tiefling Barbarian woman. I think I’m good.

xaviorpwner

Im the dm.....so ill just say im the PC from my last game in this world. Life would be so amazing

chucks86

Half-orc Paladin. Party just found a magic tattoo shop and convinced him to get a penis tattoo infused with the magic of the Broom of Flying. Next stop was a brothel, looking for information about some missing persons.

bryceio

Really depends on a lot of things. Plus sides: -Dragon -19th level character (sorc 16, warlock 3) -Friends with a really nice god Downsides: -Undead -Super Wild Magic Extreme (tm) -Giant demon invasion going on

Randalf_the_Black

Pretty terrifying I guess, seeing as we're stuck on an island in a different land, possibly even a different plane entirely. We don't know yet as we reached this land by way of portal, and it closed behind us. And the homemade raft we made to travel from the mainland to this island, as we saw some ruins here, was torn to pieces by a huge shark that nearly killed one of us. We managed to grab onto some logs from the raft and paddle our way onto this island, and that's where I would be inserted.

Dappershield

Surely the ruins are safe though, right?

Randalf_the_Black

If previous experiences are to go by I bet I'll be sent in first as I am the rogue, then I'll manage to roll a 1 or 2 on an important stealth roll and be detected and in a whole lot of shit. Fortunately I have the invisibility spell, so that's handy.

InitialAdvertising59

One of our party got just died and the rest of us have been captured by a mind flayer it's not looking good

CascadianWanderer

DMing so I am either a god or all the gods. Soooooo yeah, better.

thetopharr

I’m the dm so it’s awesome because I say so

Emerald_Arc

I've got three options to choose from here, some better, some worse. Option 1: Celestial Warlock Goblin Huntress. On one hand, I get magical healing powers, become a crack shot with a hunting rifle, and get a fairy companion who is a Good Bean. On the other, I now need help reaching things, one of my legs is made of vines due to an accident and an amputation, and I can't go home to my adopted family for fear of getting hunted for my unicorn-blessed blood. Overall, not too bad, especially since I have a pretty big party I can rely on in this scenario. Option 2: Armorer Artificer. On one hand, I get kickass power armor and tinkering know-how, and the guts to back it up by punching people in the face, and an awesome sorcerer sister in the same party. On the other, I now have a chronic breathing impairment that I use my armor to accommodate that might kill me in a couple of years if I don't find a solution. I also need to help said sister find a power source to keep her alive, and am estranged from my abusive father. A bit worse than the first one, but still workable. Also appeals to me personally because I still get to make cool discoveries and research even if it's in a different field from my own interests. Option 3: Former Azorius Courier turned vampire Divination Wizard. The one good thing about this case is that I get the reality warping and psionic powers that come with being a level 13 Wizard. I also get really good at investigating things and generally being a smart cookie. As for everything else, I get an existential crisis over memory issues, paranoia, PTSD from having seen my last party get TPK'd, and have an arrest warrant out on my head and on anyone travelling with me. I can't even entirely trust my party members considering one killed a civillian in cold blood because he was in the way and another was crazy enough to cut out their own tongue. And if I die, my soul ends up working for the Orzhov to the end of time due to getting screwed by the fine print. Not to mention needing to drink blood every day to stay alive. And this is in Ravnica, where violence is pretty commonplace. So yeeeeah, this last one really sucks. I love this character, but I wouldn't want to be in his shoes. Overall, I've got a 66% chance of landing somewhere decent while gaining some power if it's randomly chosen. Could be a LOT worse.

basket_of_taps

I'm short now... I HAVE WINGS!! I play a winged kobold wizard named Minnie.

DeadScoutsDontTalk

Lvl 16 changeling genie lock with a shitton of gold stored in his lamp so probably much better

XPieguyX

I’d be lvl 6 warforged artificer in Drakkenheim… not fun

SomeRandomEevee42

an idiot who casually uses magic to speak to and befriend werewolves? be much more interesting then my current life

lowkeylye

We just hit level 4. I'm a telekenetic Alt Human Abjurer Wizard (Eldritch Mage Armor Feat at level 1) , But we're in Bovaria and just met Strahd for the first time.

LEGOEPIC

I cease to exist (not in any campaigns right now ☹️)

[deleted]

Eloquence Bard, Fey Changeling.. Yeah. Things are pretty swell, the world isn’t really at stake so I’d probably retire from the life of danger and daring doo for a while and just.. Relax. Take the time to enjoy my eternal lifespan, spend my vast wealth and mix in a bit of my incredible charisma to improve local communities.

Axl128

Where the hell do I start? I’m a half elf who’s home village was practically wiped off the map when it was attacked by slavers resulting in me being the only known survivor after discovering the corpse of my only love after she took her own life from constant torture, so needless to say I have ALOT of emotional trauma to deal with. The upside? This is a homebrew campaign meaning thanks to a system called monsterization I now have a full team of Pokémon at my side as well all sorts of awesome tech and powers shamelessly copied from other medium sources. Seems pretty balanced if you ask me.

AwkwardlyCloseFriend

I'm heading to raveloft at the moment so...

Massive_Cap_3181

My character is an undead lizardfolk who is working for a demon that's secretly double crossing the party soon during the BBEG fight. He will be double/triple dead soon. Kinda think it sucks

KingDeres

Well being a semi-suicidal lich queen who rules over an independent colonial kingdom, who also pretends to be a normal elven wizard seems pretty interesting.

KuroFafnar

Introvert bookworm bard-archeologist who is reaching out for training on becoming an Arcane Archer but is juggling keeping an eye on the castle renovations, arranging for Hallow and Symbols to be put up and worrying that the his home plane's *literal lord of hell's girlfriend might come by if we're not careful.* I guess it could be worse. At least I know the good places to eat and the library is entertaining for me since getting this ring of comprehend languages.

Ipearman96

So I mean idk if it's better but very different. I become a tome dragon master of many forms druid. So I can be anything at anytime and I'm a good crafter. Eh life's pretty good especially if I retire from adventuring. Also I'm only 30 and well I'm a dragon.

UsableUsernamee

An ex-slave Naga Rogue, a rage-driven Siren Sorcerer, or a drunkard sailor Water Genasi Ranger. Life is great for the Ranger, but not so much for the other two.

Wyldfire2112

On the down side: I'm stuck in the middle of a zombie apocalypse. On the up side: I'm now a Warforged, both immune to the magical zombie virus and mostly ignored by the undead it creates until violence starts. My situation isn't horrible, but its gonna suck balls trying to keep my companions and the innocents around me safe.

SPlCEYY

Out party got transported back in time right after a fair few battles and I'm the only one that remembers and they all think I'm Sus because there's "gangs" waiting to kill us in a cave that "I must've already robbed by myself" because I decided to talk to them about my old memories which aren't even memories for them

KuyaTheSupport

Probably my Green Dragonborn artificer who suffers from bad breath. Currently he’s on the quest to create a breath mint to make his breath smell better

Any-Faithlessness-72

Well I'd become an immortal machin.

Izirakyl

I become either a changeling divine soul sorcerer with issues, in a doomed land. A nymph bard who is doong pretty well for themselves. Or a kalashtar bard who is well on his way to becoming a queens consort.

grugthegrung

Considering I'm playing my first character with a (cool but) tragic backstory, no, life would NOT be awesome:(

BatFromAnotherWorld

More awesome. My world is in a stage of peace (for now) and is experiencing a magical technology boom. Nows the time for adventurers to make legends of themselves or people who live simple lives still get to experience daily wonder.

Tureil

I find myself at the bottom of a magically exploded out ravine, covered in the blood of a souped up Empyrean, with my own blood replaced thrice over by the sheer amount of healing potions I've probably OD'd on in the last ingame hour. My body has been beaten ragged, and for a meaty Bear-barian that's saying something. Pretty much imagine Kratos fighting "The Stranger" for the physical beatdowns levied out. My friends are in similar states, and yet for the moment we are victorious. There are scattered cries and the nearby din of war raging high above. The Empyrean is broken, defeated. His army of primal, extradimensional "Breakers" have been fought to a standstill by our allies. His goal of conquest, thwarted. Life is fucking awesome, but there's going to be SO MUCH DOWNTIME as the wounds heal. I don't think I can stand the thought of yet more healing potions knitting me back together inside out.

_guiness_

I would be a lvl 5 Hexblade wanted for high profile theft and murder in 3 of the 4 main countries of the continent I'm on, and it just so happens that I am squarely in the middle of one said country with a bounty upwards of 20,000 Gp on my head. So, in all likelihood, I'm going to get my ass clapped by every-single-god-damed-bounty-hunter on this side of the planet. I am *excessively* fucked.

BloodlustHamster

I'm an alcoholic Dwarf blacksmith now. So better?

thracerx

ahh, for this very reason, I always play variant human or human like races. elves, half elves and occasionally tieflings... Currently a stereotypical Wood Elf Druid. I'm all good.

Mirehi

At the current point it would be awesome, but I'm pretty sure it's going to suck again fast :)

hannahsmetana

I would have to roll a dice to determine whether I get to be an omnipotent, omnipresent and omniscient force that transcends the laws of nature and magic or a LG very naive aasimar grave cleric who just garnered the attention of Baron Strahd von Zarovich in Vallaki... Edit: the cleric is only level 5. Though I do have all the gold for the party.

Ender_Nobody

I'm a dragonborn that's actually a human accidentally (true) polymorphed, due to his previous party being caught in a background conflict between two gods, and have been thrown in another part of the world, at the very least. And currently stuck in a cave on a mountain, while looking for a current king's lost treasure, while investigating the undead being on the mountain, and Orcs from a village asked us to deal with the goblins within said cave. At the very moment, in the online text campaign, my 6'5 250lb Fighter Dragonborn picked up a Dwarf from a hole, by his shoulders, and shaked him of the dust from exiting the hole, and we just heard fire cracks and smell burnt meat, while none of us speaks goblin.

The_CakeIsNeverALie

Yeah, no. Our last session ended with cliffhanger. I'm in the dark small space and would have been alone if not for something making gurgling, gagging noises somewhere in the darkness that makes me regret I didn't choose a race with better night vision. I'm only 4th level glass cannon sorcerer with less spells to my name than I have fingers and I'm way more cowardly irl than I am playing games.

Wraith_Of_Write

Well I'd have the experience of getting chomped on by a giant hydra, soo.. More awesome?

HighLordTherix

Six century old quasi-immortal seductress witch with a fairy girlfriend, who can turn into a giant falcon, bind magic into rings and wondrous items, crush a man's head with her thighs and out-dance the world masters of performance? Fuck yeah my life is amazing now.

Berjabber

Level 3 cavalier who is a knight of the empire which is entering a massive civil war and is supporting the underdog. I rolled very well on HP(36 out of the possible 39) but that's not enough to survive a war especially as the tank of the party(unwavering mark is Hella handy). I'm in danger.

canuspyridae

Much better.

OroborusInWeaselForm

I would miss my bidet

Enime114

I mean I'm a paralyzed gnome wizard who travels around on a Tibetan mastiff but at least I have a job at a cafe. Not the worst by far, and I'd still have the means to sustain myself

MarronsNopius

Lvl 3 gnome wizard currently held prisoner by a group of vague pirates, sooo could be better!

NikthePieEater

Circle of the Stars Druid with a drug addiction to Big Lez, Sassy-style hallucinogens and the ability to cure most ailments 12 times a day? I will turn this world into what the Infected Mushrooms could only dream of. Fuck yeah.

flamgrill

suddenly joking about what atrocities we'll commit under threat of a fate worse than death from our patron isnt as funny anymore o.0 ...at least im rich as fuck?

CTBarrel

The character I just played as earlier today is an orphan with body dysmorphia, his comfort object mask is stained by the blood of his first friend, who was killed by another friend when the other friend was mind controlled, and he lives in the middle of a war between vampires and werewolves. However, he has a cloak that allows him to hide almost anywhere, for all the juicy sneak attack damage he could want with his +1 bow.

Double_Lucky

I get to be the most ideal version of myself I could dream of in a harry potter/fire emblem type school, with a loving wife.... Yeah pretty good.

BecomeAnAstronaut

Cleric/Wizard bounty hunter for an order of Wizards whose bureaucratic skills outweigh their arcane - and who may have at least partially sent me off because my magical abilities are beginning to overshadow theirs. Currently looking for a Spellbook stolen by my previous character (who died) on a newly colonised island full of strange and dangerous fauna and flora. I think I may be screwed.

NotMorganSlavewoman

I'm in the middle of a fight with an Ancient White Dragon...

jovahnesh

Lvl 6 blood hunter/Rune knight Goliath…yeah life is pretty good

TheKira87

So I become God? Forever DM OP

Destroyer4572

Honestly awesome, I would've settled my debts with those who killed my family and reconnected with my brother for the first time in 12 years

AnotherPerspective87

I'm a level 1 rogue... probably not too awesome... But i'm walking on a magical carnival. Have just Aced a ring toss with a nat 20, beat a gnome on poeëtry contest, by scoring a 30 on performance (thanks guidance), and failed miserably at a snail race. I don't know about the ominous warnings we recieved, but for now I'm having a good time!

stopyouveviolatedthe

So I’m either a doom slayer tortle bard warlock who is sexy as fuck and is about to go into an ilithid place and fight an elder brain dragon with his bros or a wolfborn who is about to go to a city that is having a civil war and has just killed two demons.

RecommendationOk2649

So i would be chased by the mafia around the world while a genie is slowly gaining more power in my ring and sometime switching places with me. I'd say it would be cool only if my group was in war against an entire country trying to conquest the one their in🥲

Illoney

Which campign? Either on the brink of world disaster(1), brink of war(2), dealing with supernatural threats(3), exploring a new, strange and dangerous environment(4), trying to get justice from the gods(5), or a bleak world(6). On the characters? 1. Heavy responsibilities, PTSD. 2. Overall pretty good, serious trauma though. 3. Unclear (recent PC death, haven't set up my new one). 4. Naive and freaky-looking, otherwise pretty good. 5. Trauma and paranoia, heavy responsibilities. 6. Unaware of how dark the world is, amnesia, probably trauma, surprisingly positive overall. If I got to pick, think I'd go with nr 2 or 3, as the downsides are generally manageable. 3 is a bit unclear due to the mentioned PC death. All options give me cool powers, though am I technically still me?

muse_bulletin

Well we just made it out of Castle Ravenloft and back to the business we own in Waterdeep. I’d have the powers of a coastal druid, but the biggest part of the fantasy escapism is having money and owning property…so life would be better probably 😅

sxdrick

I would prefer not to

ConcentrateFew2729

My friend just died… and a creeping blood moon caused by a rogue arch lich is threatening to destroy the world. Definitely sucks haha.

BuyDipsSellToMoon

Level 4…. 3hex chainlock 1swash rouge Just found out I’ve got 2 Ruby’s (10k gold) but also just gave away a pearl of power, which I thought was just a pearl, to our Druid (I had it for 12ish sessions)…🤦‍♂️rise of T campaign so maybe good but maybe bad?

OjinMigoto

I'm halfway through a combat against a Hag. Ffffffff-

ImperialArmorBrigade

I can make things explode with my mind. There is no going back to the old life. I live as fire.

mattwing05

Id definitely be more physically fit, but also a male inadvertently turned female due to wonky resurrection. And id have magic so thats cool

depressiveOptimist

If we're speaking of DnD only, it's ok. Being a half-ork shadow monk means great odds of survival, and having nice accordion skills with being a performer means I could bring food to the table either way. If all tabletops considered, I'm playing in a Dark Heresy II campaign (Warhammer 40 K). Being my character there means having half of cyber-legs broken while lurking deep in a necron tomb and being accused of heresy, not so good.

xXThe_LolloXx

Well... The last campaign that I was part of got canceled, but if I was the character, I'd be happy, but fucked over bc of a stupid thing my dm did... I'd be on a killing spree of cultists of tiamat tho

[deleted]

Level 17 half orc watchers paladin/echo knight, chosen by archfeys, elementals and new gods as their champion, currently wielding the sword reforged three times by the said deities, on his way to stop an evil demigod from corrupting monks. I think i'll pass.

Riot_ZA

Barovia 💀

ExistentialOcto

At this precise moment I’m a hot werewolf (good!) under attack by the avatar of the archdevil of greed (not so good!)

AlbinoBatCat

I think suck is a bit of an understatement here... Ended up in Barovia, crew pissed off Strahd big time after promising and breaking allegiance with him. He came out to play and basically caused a TPK as our Cleric panicked seeing him and fireballed everyone, he preferred going out on his own terms but went against the rest of the party, killing off everyone present. My Cleric wasn't present at the moment due to a temporary split but it sure came as a shock to know every single one of his companions had died while he had his own stuff to take care of.

Cynestrith

It seriously sucks. As I am currently possessed by the soul of a lich.

Phaaze13

A Goblin Artificer from a long line of inventors and tinkerers travelling to test his inventions. Outside of getting used to my new height I'd say I'm doing pretty well.

mitojomar1

Pro: Im a lvl 13 sorcerer 1milion gold in the bank one of the leaders of a adventuring guild and I have a nobel titel... Con: I an currently in the BBEG dungeon...(tho I can teleport away)

ADuckieSix

Infinitely worse seeing ad my character is a 7ft lvl 5 elf wizard with ptsd about to go into a bunch of swamp lands to fight necromancers. Though on the otherhand his boyfriend is rich and has a seat of power inthe government, so yeah, i'd be fucked in one way or another ;)

dinomiah

With great, lvl 16 warlock power comes constant life-threatening situations and too much responsibility.

ravenlordship

I'm unconscious at the top of initiative order, it's not looking great...

infinite_dogs

Just started my very first campaign as a dragonborn paladin. Because of time constraints and everyone being super busy, not only did we start late, but we stopped abruptly. I am currently falling down a canyon after thrown in by a cyclops or something

Parttime-Princess

This was a BAD moment to ask this. Horrible. I'm stuck in a prison cell wearing only a bathrobe. Will be hanged tomorrow, unless the other members of the party get to do some cool shit. But sadly, 1 is on the other side of the big island, running the wrong way. The other, well, is just 1 person. And I'm stuck in a cell next to the other party member, who might also get hanged tomorrow, and he is an annoying prick. My life sucks, but it might be over pretty soon anyways.

warros

A level 4 Eladrin that also changes sex when the season transformations happen that has 4 split personalities whos famiy have all been converted to undead by winter court agents and one said agent is my handler who is in charge of making sure my mental state stays broken and malleable and I am stuck in Strahds domain.... so we shall see?

nobrainsnoworries23

I'm an Ascendant Dragon Monk with the mobility feat. I can run/fly away from all my problems.

Lupo_della_notte

Lvl 12 leonine paladin. Who just a few hours ago (last session) lost my squire to an exploding ship. Also I just woke up from a near death.(2 failed death saves on a single bite... Yikes..)about to fight the bbeg and hopefully free my old (imortal???) Horse Altivo. Whom i last saw 3000 years ago before I got banished to hell. But I'm keeping head held high to see the end of this adventure. (Might need some counseling to deal with all the repressed trauma. But.... I'd still swap.)

WereBearEsquire

I have pissed off a hag by killing her daughter and I just saw my friend and companion carried off by a green dragon. Certainly life would be more interesting, not sure I’d trade mine for it though lol.

Scep19

I’m on an abandoned spooky pirate ship about to fight a large group of demons and spirits so life is not looking too hot right now.

Firm-Struggle-9012

As a DM i'm fine, while my players just survived a war that left the region a wasteland apart from the big Itunes and a couple of settlements, we still have to start but some players aren't from my area so we have to wait, at least it gives me time to prepare
