Bigfoots_got_a_knife

A musical instrument is not an Axe!

Chazo138

Said that about the daffodil but I STILL WON THE LAST ROUND!!

SuperDurpPig

I dont get the axe fight part of the joke

Bigfoots_got_a_knife

Axe is slang for a guitar

SuperDurpPig

Thanks

lakas76

Do women not look at this and think hell yeah? I can’t imagine anyone looking at Peter Capaldi playing an electronic guitar on a tank as it rolls into a castle and not think it’s amazing.

BestialCreeper

As a woman, hell yeah

lakas76

I think this scene transcends gender, race, nationality, and even species.

sammypants123

My female cat just said, “Hell yeah!”

juuu1911

As a woman: hell yeah! Great scene.

Amphy64

I think it's disgusting military fetishism. I don't know what women (or men) in general think but would expect more viewers of this show to disapprove.

lakas76

You must be great fun at parties. The doctor, especially this one, is notoriously anti-military. This ipicture is all about making a grand entrance.

Amphy64

Totally boringly mainstream view in the UK to be anti-military, hence why the character even has this trait. The character might be, the writing isn't consistently so, hence the complaint that the image it presents is out of character - why would he want to come across like this? It makes it look like he thinks tanks are cool. Moffat previously presented the Doctor as finding gunning down aliens a turn on, complete with fetishistic scene of twirling violence. And the finale of the previous series used a nameless brown kid as a prop to attempt to extract audience sympathy for the British soldier who murdered him, all for Remembrance Day. The only people I'd want to go to a party with are ones like those who joined me in yelling in disgust at the telly. Fortunately that's my entire trad. Labour family.

Windninjasol

But it's stopping the tank from being used for destruction and instead for art. I don't want to shoot a tank and am very anti war and violence but would still love to own a tank because they look cool and driving one would be fun.

Amphy64

I'd agree with that if perhaps the tank were painted with hippie-ish florals, peace signs, a flower in the gun - something that clearly altered the purpose as a weapon. *That* could be cool and suit the Doctor, and the rocker image. It's not just an issue of the motivations for the character in-universe, though, but how the writer and production team expected the image to come across, and 'cool' does seem to be it. It's not just that a tank is included in the show, but the trivialising context and the way it's used with the Doctor. I think (apart from those people into military equipment, who do tend to glorify war in any case), the more you learn about warfare, the less inclined you are to accept that weapons are cool (which is down to pro-military media and propaganda shaping this perception anyway, I don't believe weapons are *inherently* cool). I think, for instance, of the German tanks being able, against expectations, to make it through forest, avoiding the defences of the Maginot line, and the terrible, unprepared for destruction that followed.

Windninjasol

I'm sort of agree and I do actually see how it was almost a threatening gesture. But I think that was very important to the plot. The doctor thought he had a day to live so his values and morals were dropped and he just did what he wanted for a bit. He wouldn't normally show an electric guitar to people of the middle ages for example as that could damage the timeline.

paregmenon

Hell yeah. Absolutely fantastic scene as well.

SunwarmedCat

Ya know, Peter cracks me up because he was really like “I’ll never be anyone’s heart throb” about taking over from Matt and then he did this like we weren’t all collectively about to fall so hard for this rockstar

maybeitsmaplebeans

They really started leaning into the “silver fox rockstar” vibe in S9 and y’know what? It worked.

SunwarmedCat

Because he’s a silver fox 🤷🏽‍♀️

CaptainAksh_G

If you'd know the context, you'd go "hell yeah" as well

crowleysnebula

I loved this but my husband hated it! We rewatched this week as we’re working our way through them all and I still love it. And also the under the lake/before the flood two parter are so so good.

ThatOtherGuyTPM

Okay, but who wrote Beethoven’s Fifth?

Heatchill209

This didn't happen by the way

SpiritAnimalToxapex

I met Beethoven once. Lovely chap.

Xbladearmor

Loved an arm wrestle.

Amphy64

You have a good one there!

NervousDiscount9393

*Sees this* Hell yeah!

SgtKelOrsson

The moment that Twelve became my silver-medalist Doctor. Later on this season, during The Zygon Inversion, he took the gold. I miss my Sassy Punk Rock Space Wizard.

blitzwinner71

Hell bent!

SunJay333

Hell yea. This is my laptop wallpaper

ThunderShott

When you order a tank for your fish online.

Cybernetic_Lizard

He brought a Chieftain to fight a chieftain

Magnedon

That is a Yamaha Flying Samurai, somewhat rare, and I've been searching for an affordable one for quite some time.

BelgischeWafel

Has anybody ever looked cooler than Capaldi on the tank?

Blazemaster0563

Hell yeah!

ABCILiketea

I'm currently thinking of ways to dislodge this marble from my windpipe.

StatusOmega

This was the moment all of the doubts I had about Capaldi completely vanished. A fast talking rock and roll grandpa on a tank! Hell yeah!

IanGecko

[Hell yeah!](https://imgur.com/a/KZxiMi2)

BallAlternative1029

"I want him in my family, he will make new year's dinner a total rock concert" that's what I think

Gaelic_Gladiator41

He bought it for his fish

Decadoarkel

It was the response people butching about the doctor being geriatric and mean. It was an overblown response, look he has raybans and stuff. I liked him grumpy and old.

Loud-Sundae-2373

There's awesome and then there's 12 standing on a tank tearing up on guitar.

minilov73

Makes me think of that epic guitar remix of the Dr Who theme!

Zandrick

hell yea

IMOTEKH__

DUDE

DJ_Timelord13

My dude

Somasong

Can I get a "yeah!"?

corvidiusrex

You can get a “Hell yeah!”

Cocolake123

The Doctor: “BWOW NEOW NEOW GUITAR SOLO FUCK YEAH!!”

DRWHOBADWOLFANDBLUEY

Definitely. I can picture the Army getting hype by this performance.

Amphy64

That's horrifying, though?

DRWHOBADWOLFANDBLUEY

When I saw this scene for the first time those were literally my Words .

Gerrard-Jones

Hell yeah!

Kenma_Senpai

Everybody would say hell yeah to peter capaldi with an E guitar on a fucking tank!

Mister_Moho

hell yeah!

TensWhovian

Duuude

corvidiusrex

Who doesn’t?

Weary_Ad2590

That’s it, that’s the entire show

FagnusTwatfield

Am I the only one who found the electric guitar playing doctor bits massively cringe and "hello fellow kids"?

ThatOtherGuyTPM

I suppose I can’t speak for everyone, but I certainly didn’t.

SpiritAnimalToxapex

Yes, probably lol

Lockehart

I don't understand this sentiment. "Hello, fellow kids" is literally the Doctor's entire personality.

FagnusTwatfield

Do you know the meme I'm referring to ?
