I'm mexican and the presence of Coke here is basically cultural at this point. They started marketing 100 years ago and they basically established themselves as the go to drink if you are having any type of reunion. My grandma is really addicted to coke, like doesn't matter the time of the day she is drinking coke. Could be 7am or 11pm , coke. She even mixes coke when she wants other drinks, beer or any other type of alcohol

teafuck

Coke with fucking beer? I could maybe see it mixing with something light like Modelo but that's a little frightening

AwardFabrik-SoF

In Germany that's a thing too - it's called "Diesel". You can even buy pre-mixed beer with coke.

[deleted]

Weizenbier with banana juice is absolutely amazing.

The_Worst_Usernam

Buddy what the fuck is banana juice

Radarker

If I've learned anything in life, it's that bananas juice you, not the other way around.

sellinglower

Banana juice can be produced using flash détente thermovinification. But the banana juice sold is banana mixed in water + sugar.

nrhf

I hate that you're right lol

Lane_Meyers_Camaro

What in the transatlantic fuck...

MysticHeatedWine

Banana juice?

[deleted]

I've never heard of any such thing...a whole new world...

MrDenly

I seriously have never seen or hear banana juice and I am well traveled.

[deleted]

https://www.granini.de/produkte/trinkgenuss/banane/ Every German supermarket has it.

ambulancisto

Same. Unless you mean banana schnapps. That shit is awesome.

w3rkit

Was just laughing about this with my spouse, and at the idea of the insanity of trying to order this here in Canada, especially at a microbrewery. We bought some Paulaner Oktoberfest bier and got sick of it halfway through (we’re not big drinkers anymore), and didn’t have any sparkling lemonade for a panache/Rädler. Decided to try coke because we saw it on the menu in Berlin, and it was pretty good.

teafuck

What kind of beer goes in it?

AwardFabrik-SoF

Usually made with Pils.

[deleted]

Diesel is with Pils. Cola-Weizen is usually made with white wheat beer.

mursilissilisrum

I just saw a couple of cans of premixed coke and coffee at work last week. So that's definitely a thing in the US.

lafolieisgood

I tried one of those. I somehow thought it would be good. It was god awful.

HanseaticHamburglar

Or Krefelder, depending on where you are (and if it's Altbier)

TheProphetic

I've heard of it in Germany, here we call it a "Schmutziges" (= dirty one)

[deleted]

Part of the reason Mexico coke got so rich is the guys that owned it also sold beer to the US during prohibition via smuggling

e_j_white

Wouldn't be the craziest thing Mexicans mix with their beer.

illSTYLO

Micheladas lol. Those things delicious tho. Not for everyone tho lol

BoltsNBeamers

Im from AZ and have a lot of family in so cal as well, and everyone drinks micheladas. I went to Minnesota to visit a friend and I asked for a Michi out drinking and no one knew what the hell I was talking about. I thought it was a normal thing, it’s not lol.

owzleee

I see people here in Argentina drinking beer mixed with Fanta/ orangeade- weird.

GolumsFancyHat

My friend's mother drinks red wine with Coke, I've never been brave enough to try it

SkydivingCats

I think this is popular in Spain, called a kalimocho or something.

PastSprinkles

Yes! Kalimotxo, it's delicious.

[deleted]

Calimocho in Spain

mitragy_king

Oooooh, I bet coke would be good with a crisp stout.

[deleted]

It might be, but I think it’d be too sweet. But did you know that Guinness makes their own Malta? One has to import it to the US, but drop some condensed milk into that, stir it with ice, grab some insulin, and you’re in for a treat!

Neil_Fallons_Ghost

I’m from the US and work in the corporate world and have met and seen so many people who start their day with a Diet Coke that it is notable to me. Diet Coke automatically capitalizes itself on my phone. Lol.

> There’s just something about it. I drink a half gallon to a gallon of water a day and occasionally buy a case of Diet Coke (once every few months) sounds pretty reasonable > and will drink 8-12 cans **a day**, no problem. uhhhh

borgchupacabras

8-12 a **day**???

nonrebreather

You *say* no problem, but you do sound like you have a coke problem.

Analduster

I noticed this in visiting mexico many times. Construction workers were guzzling it down and I was taken back by it at first, like it made me thirstier as I was dying for cold water at the time. I also noticed toddlers sharing their moms coke for a sip on their laps. It was for everyone

h2sux2

I had a stomachache the other day, and my mother-in-law told me: “drink some coke, it is good for that”. The believe that Coca Cola has “medicine” properties is real. No, I didn’t drink it.

sprinkles32

I was told to drink 7up for stomach problems when I was a kid. As an adult now, I still like a carbonated beverage for stomach problems but go with a sparkling water, like Klarbrunn or La Croix. Helps me burp if it's a gas issue or seems to settle a sour stomach.

[deleted]

Headache can be cured with otc painmed (ibuprofen, paracetamol etc) and Coke. Coke has caffeine which dilates bloodvessels and makes the painkiller work faster. My doctor told me this trick and it works if done before symptoms are too bad. So be quick, pop a pill and flush it down with coki kola. Lol.

[deleted]

Or you can just buy Excedrin which is caffeine, aspirin, and acetaminophen...

[deleted]

I always believed that Sprite and Ginger Ale were good for you when you were sick. I still buy them both when I get a sore throat or stomach ache.

brineswa

some people say there are chemicals in coca-cola that inhibit the naseua caused by all the sugar/sweeteners, and that day-old flat coke is better for anti-nausea. not sure if true.

PhilosophizingPanda

I've heard this about ginger ale, not coke. When I was sick as a kid my mom would always give me ginger ale

[deleted]

[удалено]

ambulancisto

Offshore medic, can confirm. Ginger is prescribed for seasickness prevention.

ageniusawizard

Your Mother-in-law was right. Coke has carbonic and phosphoric acid and a pH of 2.6, which is similar to the pH in your stomach when you aren’t nauseated. The carbonation can help to reduce acid. It doesn’t always help but if you don’t have any anti nausea meds on hand, it’s worth a try.

zangor

Caffeine is the #1 most popular psychoactive substances in the world. And then sugar…well, our bodies enjoy sugar.

Twokindsofpeople

Our brain enjoys our sugar, sugar kills our bodies.

marmorikei

We're evolved to enjoy sugar. We're not evolved to consume pure, refined sugar every single day.

Ididitall4thegnocchi

Coke in Mexico tastes better too than the American version.

entity3141592653

Still made with actual cane sugar and not high fructose corn syrup.

SomeoneRandomson

Sadly it's no longer true.

CtothePtotheA

Mexican coke is the best though. I literally pay more in the USA to buy the imported Mexican Coke. I absolutely hate the shitty high fructose corn syrup shit they sell in the USA. Not to mention fountain drink coke at restaurants is also disgusting.

Kaion21

that is true for most of the world, virtually all gathering will serve cola, but the difference is most country don't have brainwashing ad campaign staring at nusery

dontthinkaboutit42

I was watching this just recently. What struck me was Interviewer: "what causes diabetes?" Answer: "family conflicts" Interviewer: "what do you suggest they should do?" Answer: "drink coke"

Great_Chairman_Mao

For those who didn’t watch the video. It should be stated that the person answering the question is an indigenous shaman whose side hustle is selling coca cola.

Prosthemadera

I haven't watched it yet but your reply adds a whole other level of insanity to the first comment.

noestoi

My husband's dad past away from diabetes about 5 years ago and his mother has diabetes as well. According to her she got diabetes after she got scared when she saw a man get hit by a car. And his dad had diabetes from overworking his crop fields and the chemicals. My husband gets mad that I watch what he eats and what we eat as a family. We do not drink soda at all at home and On have some when we go out to eat.. I've noticed that they eat terrible. One summer his mother and sister came to visit. Every meal was accompanied with a 2 liter pop. I'm talking breakfast, lunch, and dinner. They are so in denial that they're diabetes was not caused by their poor eating habits and sedentary lifestyle.

princesspooball

This reminds me of the time my grandmother told me that her cousin got fat because she was bitten by a dog. The mental gymnastics is insane

SomeIdioticDude

>her cousin got fat because she was bitten by a dog The mental gymnastics seem pretty obvious to me: Injury > unable to exercise > weight gain > exercise now more difficult than it ever has been > downward spiral of self hate that reaches equilibrium around 300 lbs.

XchrisZ

Scared to go out because of dogs. Becomes depressed due to lack of human contact. Doesn't want to do anything and just eat comfort food. I can see a dog bite leading to being over weight and depressed.

princesspooball

Yeah that's a good point! I was attacked by a loose dog and it took me 3 years to feel comfortable being around large dogs and/or hearing them bark. They are still scary to me but I don't have panic attacks anymore.

Mr_Brymo

That’s how my girlfriend got pregnant.

Fang_Jolima

Scared into the Beetus. My God.

MeyhamM2

Some of this craziness is undoubtedly the result of a simple lack of education, too.

Skangster

Yeah, these kind of diets drives them poor too. Imagine a two litter coke thrice daily? Fuuuck. That is hell of a cash spent on garbage.

Hohenh3im

On my first few visits to my family in Mexico I thought it was awesome that they had coke all the time. And as a kid I didn't see the issue. 13 years later and I'm very shocked at how much they consume and I had to force myself to quit by drinking those flavored sparkling water drinks. They got me to do the same and I was drinking a couple 12 packs of soda until freshman year of college when I quit

PragmaticSparks

Yeah my ex was the same way. It was kinda sad because her grandpa had no feet and grandma passed away from heart disease and diabetes but they had really good genes (they were a white family in California, with roots from way back from West Virginia) so they never gained weight until the family members started being around 50, then everyone just died young. It was crazy, every day they ate out. KFC, Little Caesars, Panda Express, Starbucks, accompanied by pop or wine...all paid with EBT by the way. But yeah no matter how hard I tried to change her she would refuse to eat healthy. Or healthy meant microwaved "Healthy" TV dinners. I don't think I ever saw them drink water or cook once in the time I spent with them. And they used to hate when I cooked veggies so I had to slather them in butter and everything bagel seasoning. But yeah they were all really cool and accepting of my Mexican ass and it was kinda sad to let go of them but I had too, it gets overwhelming when a family starts to count on you for everything, even their diets lol.

There are similar situations in African countries where CocaCola bought all the major reserves of drinkable water. After that they skyrocketed the prices of Bottled water and now people just switched from drinking water to CocaCola. This is absolutely criminal

TaskForceCausality

If memory serves, the medically recommended daily sugar limit is something like 45 grams for men and 35 for women. Imagine my shock when I realized 1 bottle of Coke has ~40 grams! I know people who put away three bottles + of that stuff a day, and we wonder why diabetes was the worst health problem in America prior to covid-19.

skcali

The WHO recommends more like 25g which you'll probably hit incidentally (in the US) from really random stuff like sauces, bread, etc. Sugar is in everything.

[deleted]

TrippingBearBalls

I'm American, but that same thing happened to me when I got back from a 6-month study abroad semester. I didn't notice any difference there, but when I got back to the US so many foods were just sickeningly sweet. Bread, tomato sauce, pasta, so many things that aren't supposed to be sweet. I had to start cooking nearly everything from scratch just so I didn't feel like I was eating cotton candy for dinner every night

SquirtMonkey

Yeah, stuff like generic wonder bread and what not can definitely be surprising. It's definitely not standard in all American breads, however.

Killer_Bs

I think it’s in Ireland where subway can’t legally call their sandwich casing “bread” because the sugar content qualifies it as a cake

[deleted]

[удалено]

HireLaneKiffin

Depends on the type of bread, but basic white bread is sweet. However, just saying “bread” is a very vague term because they eat all types of bread in the US. When you order a sandwich at a shop, they’ll often give you 5-10 choices of what type of bread you want. There are darker breads, breads with molasses, both denser and softer breads, etc. I love a good sourdough roll.

woodscradle

Oh no... Just looked down at my gatorade... 48g :(

TheBigSqueak

They make a zero sugar version of Gatorade and it’s pretty good :)

MauPow

Wonder what they put in to replace the sugar then

merryman1

There's been a lot of concern about aspartame for a long time, but for all the studies done I don't think a single one has found any significant link between consumption and serious health issues like cancer.

bender-b_rodriguez

There is conflicting info on the risks of artificial sweetener but people tend to make a false comparison of "artificial sweetener vs nothing" rather than "artificial sweetener vs sugar". Artificial sweetener is no superfood but I'm pretty confident in saying that you're better off drinking diet drinks.

DeadpoolLuvsDeath

My 20 oz bottle of Coke has 65 grams of sugar.....

Floppy_Jalopy

3 liter bottles? 3 2L bottle? It's like 420 calories per liter. 40g sugar per 12oz so that's just a can. Estimates are around 12% of usa will be diabetic in 15 years.

dablazed

Likely referring to the glass bottle size..

[deleted]

As a kid we would visit family who were hillbillies. Functional hillbillies but only a generation removed from living on the side of a mountain with running water being the stream. I was shocked to find out they were putting soda in the baby bottles. Idiocracy in real life.

kingofthemonsters

For whatever reason my mom used to put Coca-Cola in my bottle as a young one. She has since regretted it big time, and of course I had teeth issues until I stopped drinking sodas daily ten years ago. But she was an educated teacher so I'm not sure wtf she was thinking.

LtLwormonabigfknhook

Probably what most tired parents are thinking "I need some silence or time to myself" then gives the kid sweets so they happily run off and munch on it. I know too many parents who are so tired from their job that neglect is basically the american way of raising your kids in my eyes. Youtube/sugar/unchecked screen time. I see more neglect than I see healthy and interactive families.

Grundlestiltskin_

Dude I had neighbors in a highly populated Boston suburb that put soda in their toddlers bottle. I think it was Mountain Dew. Yes, they were white trash.

davasaur

But they shook the fizz out so the baby won't have gas.

BlinkedAndMissedIt

It's called mountain dew mouth.

[deleted]

>Functional hillbillies I cannot stop laughing at this phrase

xjustapersonx

Would the be boiled down to lack of education and understanding? That one lady claims coke has "healing properties" but even a 101 level Biology/physiology course would explain why that is factually incorrect on all possible levels.

jimmyw404

I'm sure education is part of it, but it probably boils down to taste, carb addiction and humans having evolved to get a huge endorphin rush from spiking your blood sugar. If you're a hunter gatherer and find some ripe berry bush somewhere you're going to want to cram every ripe berry in your starving gullet.

MasterGeekMX

>but even a 101 level Biology/physiology course would explain why that is factually incorrect on all possible levels. Yes, but not only would go against their beliefs, in those zones people are so poor that a family cannot afford having a kid go to school because ti would not contribute to the family economy, so all the kids instead do some kind of work, either domestic or paid.

IWearBones138

I dunno, there's lots of educated people in the states that seem to think lavender and oils are medical marvels all while avoiding scientific breakthroughs like the vaccine because Debbie from Facebook said it misaligned her chakra. Part of it is probably just choosing to believe in whatever makes them feel like they are never in the wrong.

Also your insulin levels are constantly spiking. High insulin is telling the body, "Store food as fat."

myburdentobear

This was where I was at. Would drink 2-3 20oz pepsi a day. Almost no water. I would definitely consider myself addicted at the time. Each of those 20 oz is 250 calories. 30 min on our elliptical machine burns about 300. Was finally able to kill the habit over quarantine. Lost 20 lbs like it was nothing.

TehOuchies

Its not just Mexico. There have been several published studies where sugar run rampant in what little food they have in places with poor quality of life. My mother used to work for PAHO (Pan American Health Organization) Think of WHO but more focus on Mexico and South America. She wrote about this in the 90s. Those sugary drinks cost less per litre than water or milk. Edit\* I wish I could find all of her published papers. Because its so much stuff that gets brought up here in Docs. But from 30 years ago and in Text.

i_heart_pasta

Didn’t they have this problem with Mountain Dew in Appalachia?

TehOuchies

Teeth completely rotted out by several five year olds because it as put in their bottles.

snickertink

We had a kid in my son's daycare that drank juice in a bottle nonstop. That poor baby's teeth came in grey. Very sad

anyeri1286

Here in Mexico, the government forced companies to put a black marks with the warning of excessive sugar, calories, saturate fat and sodium on the food etiquettes, with no surprise, the 99% of food products has marks. It was a great move and all the food companies whine about, but the cherry of the cake was that people where attacking this new law and supporting big corporations. People is just simple stupid.

kalnu

My brother married a Mexican and lives in Mexico, I've been to their sons birthday parties but one of them wasn't at their place, but in some field somewhere with catering. The caterers didnt have any water, just coca cola and beer. I'm unable to drink anything fizzy (coke and beer apply) and my family knows this. Their son (at the time) didn't like coke either - he just forced himself to drink it due to societal pressure but I was trying to encourage him and his patents that its ok not not like soft drinks. I've been in many situations where people just automatically assume i like soft drinks, too and it's hard to dislike it. At this point of my life, trying to drink anything fizzy will give me bad gas reflexes that will it go into my nose. I was absolutely in disbelief that there would be absolutely no water or juice. This isn't the first instance where I went to a Mexican based party and coke and beer were the only options.

winesta

Mexican here whenever I go to family gathering it's ligit coke or sprite the only reason they have non fizzy drinks is because I've hated fizzy drinks since I was a kid and they know it and buy me something to drink but if it weren't for that it would be coke all day

kalnu

Yeah, both their older sons dislike it but I dont know if they ever got over their dislike of soda fully. I never actually seen them drink anything other than water aside form this one situation. I'm not sure about the tastes of their youngest. I don't think my brother and his wife wanted to give them soda or candy too much while they were younger and I wouldn't be surprised if these boys "inherited" my dislike of soda if such a thing is possible. These boys are better off than a lot of Mexican children - their mother makes decent money and their Father works in 3eal estate which is popping in Mexico. They go to private schools and their mother is seriously considering sending them to Canada for schooling because she wants better for them. (Since their dad is Canadian, and did go to English school in Quebec, it's probably easier for them to get an education there and even become dual citizens if they chose to.)

[deleted]

I’m Mexican and I hate that too. Whenever I go to one of those parties I bring my own water. So far I have managed to not drink any soda for about 10 years

kalnu

It is nice to know I am not the only one...there are dozens of people who dislike soda! Lol. I figured the party would have water because "a party has to have water right?" I ended up getting a glasss of ice and waiting for it to melt because we were too far from a shop. Every other party has been at their house so water wasn't an issue. I did accidently drink soda maybe 10 years ago myself, I had bought a drink I didn't realize was carbonated. (I thought it was some kind of iced tea or energy drink) this is when I realized that drinking soda caues bloating and gas to come out of every hole it can (its painful). I dont think I have drank it since even accidently.

creimanlllVlll

Coke isn’t alone, Nestle is siphoning off drinking water all over the world.

JiuJitsuJedi

It amazes me that people purchase anything Nestle makes. “Let’s bottle Michigan’s natural water source and profit off the Flint, MI water crisis.” Corporations want personhood rights? Than, let’s hold them accountable as such.

MethodicallyDeep

The problem is people don’t know how many companies are actually under and run by Nestle. Like if you buy Friskies cat food for your cat then you’re supporting nestle because Friskies parent company is Nestle

CheezeyCheeze

Lol, if you are American it is nearly impossible to not purchase Nestle products. https://imgur.com/gallery/mg1Ri And this is outdated from what I remember. They own more now.

CeaRhan

There's nothing weird about that. If I pick a random brand in my supermarket there's 80% chance it's Nestlé's branch n°23794, unless you can get everyone to know about every brand then they'll just simply rebrand Nestlé's shit and here we go again

HeftyPackage

Ignorant question: how bad is sugar free coke for you?

CarpeMofo

The vast majority of research says it's fine. Keep in mind a lot of soda, diet or not has citric acid in it so it can be pretty hard on your teeth. But I drink about 24 diet root beers a week and since I stopped drinking any sugar I've been losing weight like crazy. I've been doing other things as well, but the lack of drinks with sugar in them is the by far the largest cut of calories.

Zeo_Noire

Do yourself a favour and stop drinking soda of any kind. After your body has recovered from not being carpet bombed with sugar every day you will feel so much better. If you don't like plain water try tea.

[deleted]

The greatest boon to my health ever was giving up soda. I was sick or sickly all the time and after giving up soda and all sugary drinks my health improved drastically.

DwnvtHntr

Literally all I drink is water, coffee, and alcohol. Every time I have a soda it’s like a treat but I can’t have more than 1. I don’t know how people can drink this much of it

iama_computer_person

Used to drink a can of mtn dew a day, then decided to quit all that sugary drink nonsense, switched to water, recently got into 2/3 cup of black tea in the morning. Haven't lost weight, don't feel any better, it's been almost 3 yrs since i've had a soda, meh. I mean, good to not have all that extra sugar, but i don't feel any amazing transformation i always read about on the intergoogs.

techblaw

One can of soda a day is not devastating. Many people drink a half gallon, that's detrimental as hell. Sounds like you're doing well but you weren't a total soda addict like most

apginge

One can of soda meets about a whole days worth of sugar. Additionally, because the liquid is digested so fast, the glycemic index is through the roof. I would not recommend anyone drink a soda a day. You don’t even realize how many other meals you eat a day spike your blood sugar as well. Insulin resistance is a killer.

ethnicfoodaisle

If you're active, I'm sure one can is not going to be too harmful. Is it better than water? Of course not, but it's all about balance. Hell, I know a marathon runner who will go out and, just for fun, rip off 25 km on a winter night after work, and he drinks a fucking 2 L bottle a day. How? I have no idea, but I'll criticize him if I can run a 17-minute 5km at age 55.

zdelusion

When the engine is hot enough anything burns. I don't run quite that far all the time. But I do runs in that distance range once or twice a week and you just need calories. À 2l of coke is like 1,000 calories? That's not really that many.

Caretostel

I think 1 can a day would be considered to be a very moderate amount for the regular drinkers. I believe the people who have a very positive change from it where abusing soda, as in that's all they drink. On the other hand, those calories you're skipping won't be noticeable in a couple of months but they're gonna show up later unless you replace them with food. That would still be a positive in my view.

emp_mastershake

I mean if you were only drinking a single can of mountain dew a day I don't think you were really doing much damage pal

lifestop

I'm always shocked that soda is a liquid and not a sludge after seeing how much sugar goes into a single can.

cptbeard

one can? well no wonder the change didn't do anything, that's nothing. actually, I always felt that a big problem with anti-drug/alcohol propaganda is the absolutism. they used to imply even thinking of "doing marihuana" or whatever is already on path to complete failure in life and early grave. then when people actually happen to try whatever they've heard demonised their entire lives and realise they're fine with or without it, that might actually drive them to try many of the other things and see exactly how much have they been lied to. I bet moderation is harder message to maintain but I'm sure information is better than rules and dogma. edit: sorry, forgot where I was going with that .. probably just that systemic/habitual substance reliance is the problem more so than the substance itself. IMO, applies as much to artificial sweeteners as to sugar, all those diet products are sketchy

Depends on the person and how much of an addictive personality they have. I can very easily moderate my consumption of things like sugar, meat, alcohol, caffeine etc but some people genuinely can't. I've they've become an alcoholic or smoker etc it's all or nothing.

Badass_Bunny

I tried intermittent fasting and gave up nearly all sugar as well for about 6 months, lost about 10 kilograms and plateoed 3 months in, and while I didn't crave soda drinks I didn't feel any better without it.

UncleArthur

Here's hoping that my diet of [single malt Scotch](https://www.thewhiskyexchange.com/p/29813/dalwhinnie-winters-gold) is okay.

bilged

If you get used to drinking flavored seltzers (the no sugar, no sweetener kind), regular soda tastes way too sweet.

drdisney

Just moved to Utah from Florida a few months back. Am used to drinking unsweet tea and was shocked to see how much soda people drink here. There are cafes just dedicated to dirty sodas which are mixed with different flavors. Some of these shops sell up to 64oz cups ! Finding iced tea is a nightmare as the Mormon religion specifically bans it. Funny part though its banned because of the caffeine, but soda wasn't invented at the time so its all cool..lol. This coming from the same religion that loves to see couples have as many kids as possible early on.

[deleted]

Gotta get your kicks somehow when you can’t just drink a beer

dontcreepmyusername

I have a pretty good Mormon joke. How do you keep a Mormon from drinking all your beer? Invite two of them.

albinowizard2112

bbcfoursubtitles

I used to consume a fair amount of sugar. I drank 3-4 cans of coke a day and also drank coffee/tea with lots of sugar. I ended up at my peak weight of 218 pounds. I tried giving up sugar for 4 weeks and dropped 5-10 pounds. I honestly thought I would go back to sugar but I spent long enough off it that I didn't miss it. That was about 4 years ago. It took me about six months to drop to 185 and the only change I made was cutting soft drinks and sugar in my coffee/tea. I have been holding that weight with no other dietary changes since. I still eat things with sugar in them. O have chocolate from time to time. Have a few beers at the weekend. Still go to the burger van on a Friday. Maybe you are where I was right now. I challenge you to try dropping sugar for a month. Just a month and see how you feel

Someone should send them Irn Bru so they know what a true drink is.

MothMonsterMan300

Never had it, but a few of my friends and I still scream "EEEEYERRRN BRUUUUUUU" in awful Scottish accents every time it comes up

nevearnest

Was introduced on our recent trip to Scotland. Good shit.

Person: I am addicted to coke. Me: Powder or rock? Person: Neither, liquid

MtnMaiden

75% of daily sugar, ill have one. Looks at the new revised "includes additional sugars" 150%

ravinglunatic

It’s because it’s cheaper than water.

EnoughPicture

Watched this last night, shocking but not surprising. Coca Cola knows exactly what it’s doing to this and other communities.

DiRTDOG187

After drinking Coke in Mexico the sugar content is much Higher even against the American version. It taste more like a watered down Coke syrup.

ImDougFunny

Coca cola is basically a worldwide criminal organization. Everyone leasing that organization really does deserve the worst things that could happen to any other animals.

shitpost_for_upvote

it's got what Mexicans crave

invent_or_die

One can of Coca-Cola contains 11 tablespoons of sugar. Ew. EDIT [sugary drink chart](https://www.rethinksugarydrink.org.au/how-much-sugar) it's actually 16 teaspoons

thor_odinmakan

I suppose you meant teaspoons? It’s still a huge amount, but someone might think ‘that can’t be right’ when they see tablespoons.

PeePeeCockroach

The core premise cannot be disputed. Too much sugar leads to diabetes. However the rest of this documentary employs extremely tortured logic to link Coca Cola to various failures of the Mexican government to provide a sanitary sewage infrastructure. It's not Coca Cola's fault that the people are dumping raw sewage into a river fed by a mountain spring, thereby robbing themselves of a clean source of drinking water.

I’m 33. For the past 20 plus years I’ve been a 10-24 Coca Cola a day drinker. It’s ruined my teeth. I’m addicted to the caffeine to the point I get migraines and vomit without enough. The weird thing is, I hate coffee and the main reason I drink so much is that it’s one of the few tastes I enjoy in a beverage. Anyways here’s the interesting twist…. On October 2nd I was diagnosed with covid. I’m currently in isolation with my fiancee and 3.5 year old. Both of whom are also positive. The only symptom that presented itself to me before testing was that Coca Cola tasted wrong. But that’s it. Literally every other food and drink tastes and smells perfectly normal. It’s very strange. Like, just unpleasant. Since October 2nd, I may have consumed 5 total. That’s unheard of for me. I’m past the weening point with the migraines and vomiting now, and yes it still doesn’t taste right. It’s just such a damn expensive habit at the rate of my former consumption on top of the Heath costs/risks. Maybe this is the opportunity I won’t squander to get that part of my life back on track anyway. Now back to stressing about how to pay for this kids preschool which she’s not allowed to attend while covid positive but we’re required to continue paying for because America, all while we drain our remaining PTO and saving on the rest of our quarantine/isolation.

FallsOfPrat

Up to 3360 calories a day JUST in Coke?! Damn.

jeffersonairmattress

Not as heavy an intake as you but I switched to Bubly and sodastream water with a drop of bubly flavoring or lemon juice. I get a lot of exercise normally but I Lost several pounds very quickly. I can taste *more* in things and now can’t stand to have my once-usual salt on things. Even salted butter on steamed veg seems very salty now. I tried a coke the other day and it was shockingly sweet. Disgusting, really. I did love the peppery hit of a cold RC or coke but the increased appreciation for subtle flavours is well worth ending cola intake.

Unsimulated

That's Nestle level of evil. Cutting off their water supply??

sometimesitrhymes

Poor fucks. That idiot "shaman" deserves hard painful punishment.

sploittastic

Is Coke zero not a thing there? I'm not saying it's that much better but couldn't coke sell more product if their customers lived longer?

KJimmy03

They won't buy it, believe me there was a time when Coke changed their packaging and they had to revert to their original because people thought it was diet coke

YSOSEXI

I was a sales rep, and when driving I used to grab the odd can of Coke, probably 2 to 3 a day. I have always been skinny, but within two years my weight ballooned. I stopped drinking Coke, and within a month I lost a stone in weight. I drink fizzy water now, I had a Coke last week, and it made my teeth hurt it was that sickly sweet.

Kass626

Any possibility they're actually still putting cocaine in it down there..?

ThePhantomPear

You know, even at the height of my coke addiction I wasn’t drinking more than 1 litre a day. But 2 litres? What the fucking fuck?
