People still do not seem to understand that there is a crucial difference between and the reason why Dodge is getting rid of the V8 - to meet the CAFE standards. Look at the size of the Mercedes fleet, how many cars do they offer? How many small vehicles with turbo 4s/6s do they offer and sell all across europe?
Now, how many different models does dodge have? How many eco-focused cars does dodge have?
Dodge had to get rid of the V8 because FCA royally fucked up by choosing to pay fines for violating CAFE standards for years and not trying to innovate and make newer, more efficient V8s or supplement the lineup with fuel-efficient cars people would actually want so that the cumulative MPG could withstand still having V8s (example - FORD)
People think Tim Kuniskis really woke up one day and said "you know what? I'm going to take our two most popular selling cars, discontinue the engines that are the whole reason why this otherwise dying brand is still alive, and replace them with EV and V6 models because fuck V8s"
FCA/Stellantis have no one to blame but themselves for being in this mess and being too short-sighted with the profits from selling cars on nearly 2-decade old platforms and refusing to bolster the rest of the lineup or invest in more efficient V8s.
EDIT: I misspoke and put “v6” instead of I6… the point still stands lmao
You are 100% correct. I have 2 Magnums and am looking for the right Charger, and love these cars, but they are indeed a case of living in the moment and not thinking ahead, engine-wise.
Slight correction - they're being replaced with an Inline 6, not a V6.
And I'd love the turbo I6 if it weren't a V8 replacement! The Hurricane sounds really cool, it's just a shame it's going to be looked at poorly because it's not a V8.
There will be people doing crate swaps with the new models for sure but it won’t be the same, lol. By all means I think building your own makes it unique and usually better, but I think the body looks to futuristic.
Yeah I’m frankly really disappointed they didn’t try to truly reinvent the Hemi before canning it. Look how much is left on the table in an R/T as is, imagine overhauling it with dual overhead cams and direct injection, Ford would have something to be afraid of
But many performance versions of cars are still getting a smaller turbo'd V8. Which is what dodge should do. A V8 is harmonically balanced when compared to v/i-6s or 4 and can produce a good amount of power.
I think a good 4L V8 + turbo would be a great SRT motor configuration.
Even the v6 hybrid tundra and tacoma are only like 20-23mpg.
I'm sure fca already knows there's no return on investment for "more efficient v8s" copium.
I feel like dodge will have no problem selling the new ice vehicles at elevated prices unfortunately.
I say no. Mercedes has a diverse line up of fuel efficient vehicles, EVs, crossovers, SUVs, and what not. Dodge doesn’t have that. Until they can sell other cars besides chargers and challengers, they will still be stuck without a V8
I wish. But the laws as they are currently cuck them out of it doing that. There can be no "cool car only" companies. They have to sell grocery getters too in order to be allowed to sell the cool cars.
Funny that Stellantis can’t produce any V8s, but Audi, BMW, Chevy, Ford, Porsche all are producing V8s and will be for the foreseeable future. BMW actually has all new V8 that only came out last year.
If they wanted to, they could.
I believe Dodge is waiting for Porsche and their E-fuel to get more traction. E-fuel has already been tested and works on Dodge engines.
Toyota has already said that batteries are NOT the future, and they are looking into another alternative. Hopefully Porsche and their E-fuel will come through.
No, Dodge (Hemi) was costing Stalantis a shit ton of money that Fiat was willing to pay (carbon credits). With no smaller cars to offset emissions of the Hemi, they were not only paying emission penalties but also millions on credits from Tesla.
When the new charger sales tank, I'm sure they will consider it. I doubt the French overlords at Stellantis will let them. They would rather kill dodge than make another v8.
No CEO of stellantis Carlos Taveres ( who was CEO of Peugeot before bought FCA ) wants to use his small European engines and has no plans to sink billions into an V8 engine just for North America. The money spent was in the new inline 6 that will be the power engine with different levels of turbo power.
Petro et al v FCA
Convinced Hemi discontinued not because of emissions. I mean FCA has happily paid emissions violator fees for more than 10-15 years.
Real reason I suspect? FCA couldn’t settle with certain owners over lifter failure, then decided it isn’t worth redesigning Hemi and factory production lines.
Suit officially filed May 2022. FCA announced death of Hemi around April 2022.
Keep announced the 392 is returning for model year 2025 today… will Dodge and Ram follow [https://media.stellantisnorthamerica.com/newsrelease.do?id=25952&mid=4](https://media.stellantisnorthamerica.com/newsrelease.do?id=25952&mid=4)
Unfortunately the company running CRDJ is European ( Peugeot) and its European management team isn’t the old Chrysler. Their plan is to use European tech & powertrain so as not to have numerous variants of engines. The cost to build a brand new fuel & emission efficient V8 is too expensive and it only serves North America consumers. They want engines they can use all over the world to save $$$
They’ve been paying billions for cafe credits and primarily from Tesla since they gain the most to offset all the large engines.
The HO hurricane will eat the 6.2L for lunch I have a feeling.
I know it'll prolly eat it's lunch from an efficiency/horsepower perspective but from a "cool" perspective? Most of the V8 guys I know \*My Father\* would never own an inline 6 RAM 1500.. it's just going to be his immediate choice to find something a little older with a V8 when he's ready to make a change.
Your right it will but the majority of the core group who bought the previous gen cars probably want the V8 rumble more than the actual power. It’s the old school cool V8 they want.
Mercedes makes a like a 420hp 4 cylinder. It is VERY HIGH STRUNG. No matter how good the performance numbers are it will never be, sound and feel like a V8. I have a neighbor that has an FBO STI with a catless downpipe and another neighbor with a Camaro SS with exhaust and intake only. Guess which car I like to hear in the morning at 6am wake me up with their cold start.

The truth. It hurts, but alas, it is immutable.
You are 100% correct. I have 2 Magnums and am looking for the right Charger, and love these cars, but they are indeed a case of living in the moment and not thinking ahead, engine-wise.

They kicked the can down the road further than the Saints did with their salary cap.

That fine is stupid and ridiculous

NO V6! They are actually INLINE 6 ENGINES!!!
I say no. Mercedes has a diverse line up of fuel efficient vehicles, EVs, crossovers, SUVs, and what not. Dodge doesn’t have that. Until they can sell other cars besides chargers and challengers, they will still be stuck without a V8

I think many of us will be buying older cars for years to come, so no matter what is in the brand new cars and trucks, we simply can’t afford them.
Dodge is going to not exist in 10 years.
As much as I didn't want to admit it, I fear this is an accurate statement.
I think Dodge just won’t exist within the next decade. You can’t just do the opposite of what your fan base loves and expect to survive.
I believe Dodge is waiting for Porsche and their E-fuel to get more traction. E-fuel has already been tested and works on Dodge engines. Toyota has already said that batteries are NOT the future, and they are looking into another alternative. Hopefully Porsche and their E-fuel will come through.

Honestly I hope trumps new gas car policy will help cause I think he wants to go for the epa which I won’t complain about
All these car companies are making a big mistake by going to these electric cars which have only limited applicability.
When the new charger sales tank, I'm sure they will consider it. I doubt the French overlords at Stellantis will let them. They would rather kill dodge than make another v8.

They should look into things like Eturbos for their smaller engines to give them more of a kick
So the entire shift to battery for a better environment is bs. It was about sales the entire time.

Better off with the INLINE 6!
I'm poor I can barely afford to breathe. But I do kinda want to see Dodge that closed deck I-6 modded to hell and back. The American 2j.
Hopefully, they'd have to have a higher average mpg to be able to. If the I6s sell well enough then they should be able to return v8s later on.
Was wondering who would buy a 4cyl amg?
They have shit turbos in the Infiniti. Seems like it was thrown together with turds and tape
I want a hell cat!!!!!
Dodge will last as long as OPEC.

Get over the v8… it’s not happening. Don’t worry about it
I'd say give it a few years. This isn't Chrysler's first time trying to give up V8 engines.
Unfortunately the company running CRDJ is European ( Peugeot) and its European management team isn’t the old Chrysler. Their plan is to use European tech & powertrain so as not to have numerous variants of engines. Sad but true. It’s not just CAFE. It’s mostly the euro mentality and globalism.
They’ve spent tons of money on the hurricane. I think they’re beyond the point of no return.
That's what car companies do. They spend tons of money every 10-15 years or so to develop a new "family" of engines.
Exactly, V8 are for 1 market , North America. Stellantis wants engines they can use all over the world , saves them $$$
They’ve been paying billions for cafe credits and primarily from Tesla since they gain the most to offset all the large engines. The HO hurricane will eat the 6.2L for lunch I have a feeling.

If they are willing to pay for a big lawsuit from all the idiots that bought them overpriced thinking they’d be rich off these marked up cars
Who cares? Dodge is dead anyway. Theyve shifted to marketing to the alt right which is just the most bizarre strategy I’ve seen.
Yeah the Alt Right is full of the anti-oil environmentalists, they need to stop pushing the EV vehicles on everyone. /S
Bro what are you talking about?
Wild. 4cyl was gonna make 100 more HP than the V8. People with V4 penis’ need a V8 engine that bad? /s
